Hyundai is having failed engine problems after certain amount of mileage. The engine is burning oils with no leaks anywhere in the engine. You change engine oil after a week we will see the engine light flashing on your dashboard. This is my 2nd vehicle with the same problem. Thank you
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
I have about 119,000 miles on my Sonata. One day while driving in normal conditions my check engine light illuminated and my RPMs were limited. I was Able to limp it home and park it. I hooked Up my OBD11 reader and it gives me p1326 code for knock sensor. After some investigation I read Hyundai has a recall for excessive rod bearing wear that leads to engine failure. I’ve checked my VIN with this recall and my 2015 sonata does not qualify even though it has the same engine and make as the recall covers. Knock sensor has been replaced and of course it wasn’t the problem as you can clearly hear the knocking in the engine.
I’ve been with my car for 2 years due to engine failure.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact lifted her foot off the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle remained accelerating while the RPMs fluctuated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that the engine consumed one quart of engine oil every week. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after being parked at a rest station for an undisclosed period, his wife attempted to start the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence and later towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had seized. The dealer related the failure to Manufacturer Service Campaign: 953 (Engine) however, the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.
My vehicle consumes oil in a very large amount. This has been happening since I bought the vehicle. Have had it checked numerous times. No oil leaks, no bad parts. I have to add 1 quart of oil every week to my car and I only drive locally. Mechanic states it is a common issue with this make and model of car. Nothing can be done except check oil levels daily. This is costly over time and worries me that if I dont keep a watch then my oil level will be too low and my engine will blow up. Blogs have also verified other owners have the same issue. Need something done about this issue. Why isn't there a recall to fix issue?
Engine is burning 1 quart of oil in 800 miles.oil has heavy smell of gasoline.
Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. Obviously they didn't fix it because it has happened several times since then. Now my car will not even move. It starts up, radio works, AC works, just will not move. It is at the Sanford Hyundai service shop waiting for them to tell me what it is
My car had been in and out of dealership going through oil consumption testing. Was at dealership on Monday June 19th having more pictures as well as dropping oil pan etc. I was told Friday June 23 2023 car would be ready they were checking a seal to make sure it didn’t leak. I picked car up brought it home went out of town with my fiancée in his vehicle. Drove my car on Monday June 26th to work when I got off I picked my granddaughter and mother up. Drove home and 5 minutes of being inside my car exploded in my driveway. I did receive 1st degree burns was treated at my local ER.
City driving and the bells and warning message on the dash stated the electrical system was being evaluated for causes why the engine/electric drive failed
can't use eco sport motor is accelerate and the car can't read the sensors a/c stop working brakes hard to press
Started the vehicle and shifted into gear and the vehicle started to shake and vibrate. The engine was knocking and running very poorly. Within a minute the service engine light came on. We were able to get the vehicle back in to the garage. I opened the hood and checked the oil. The dipstick was dry. The end of the dipstick appeared to have burnt oil on it. I took some pictures and a video of this. I did some simple online research and found numerous cases an articles pertaining to this situation. I have had all my routine maintenance performed at a dealership since it was purchased. I added 3 quarts of oil and now the dipstick reads half-way between Low and Full. I started the vehicle and the engine still shakes and runs poorly. The nearest Hyundai dealer is over 20 miles away and I don't think the...
When I am driving car starts shaking a little I stop at a light and when I want to accelerate all of a sudden I step on gas and it wont drive i in middle of intersection it started shaking like it was going to turn off but didn't the check engine light came on but it never turned off i slowly accelerated and it kept driving I got to work turned it off when I turned back on the check engine light was no longer on .i have no idea what happened or why . And my brakes always make noise i had my breaks done in November they don't need replaced yet
since around 6/2022 been having oil issues but really didn't start getting bad till 12/2022 while driving car has rattling noise with acceleration and almost stalls due to oil light kept popping on and off come to find out I was almost out of oil. which lately i have been having to constantly check my oil due too high oil usage and keep a jug in my trunk every where I go so I don't stall on side of the road and not to mention that oil light really doesn't give warning of oil being low either. So my co worker had me check to see how fast it burns oil. we put oil in the car on a friday and by the next friday its low again and now it may 2023 and burning oil at a higher rate of me checking twice a week now. i check my...
Engine hesitation ( after throttle applied Engine acceleration ( w/no throttle applied Engine stalled ( with no code ) Dealer said because its intermittent & can not recreate & no codes found, there was nothing they could do. Icarus has stalled in the middle of intersection
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle revved up and stalled. Additionally, while accelerating, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the intake cam assembly, CVT assembly intake, tensioner, timing chain, rubber gasket, and plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number and informed the contact that the repairs were not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 73,876.
While driving on a highway, I heard a rattling sound, which could best be described as tying cans to the car and dragging them along the road. I had never heard this noise before. No safety indicator lights turned on to alert me of any issue. With minutes of first hearing the sound, a very loud pop noise could be heard, followed by immediate engine power failure. I was able to navigate off of the highway, into a more residential area. Upon the vehicle coming to a stop on its own (I was not able to apply the brakes at all), a dark cloud of smoke starting coming from underneath the hood. Seconds later, it burst into flames. I was able to safely exit the vehicle with my dog, but if traffic were any heavier, there would have been no safe way for me to get off the road and...
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in for routine maintenance, the independent mechanic discovered that the engine oil was extremely low. The contact stated that the vehicle had been regularly serviced and had received the schedule oil changes as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who recommended that an oil consumption test be performed on the engine. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the check engine warning was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated that an oil change needed to be performed more regularly. On another occasion, while starting the vehicle, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The contact was advised to contact the NSTHA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 95,000.
I have a used 2015 Hyundai Sonata that I purchased from a Hyundai dealership in December 2021 (due to the chip shortage, I had to purchase used). A few months later In June 2022 I was driving on the freeway and my car felt like it was losing acceleration. I was already planning to exit the next exit to go to my destination and as I was exiting and came to stop at the red light before I could then turn right .. my car started to violently shake. Ultimately, after going to my own car place the following day and them determining that the fuel injectors and the computer were not talking, I had it towed to Hyundai where after another 4 days they also determined it was that problem and they replaced the computer under warranty. Well today I was again on the toll road / freeway and...
In September 2022, we noticed a noise coming from under the car hood. Sounded like a thump as we accelerated. We took it to the Hyundai’s service department and was told that they couldn’t hear anything or find a problem. They changed my oil. We continued to hear a noise but thought it wasn’t a concern. In February, a fairly new tire went flat and we returned to the Hyundai service department. I received a call later and was told that they could hear a noise and they checked, and my oil was extremely low. They topped it off and told me to return in a thousand miles to see if it was still burning oil. If it was burning significant oil at that point, they would seal it and begin the Hyundai oil consumption test. At about 600 miles, I could smell a strong plastic burning odor and we...
Ports internal to valve cover were blocked. Oil blowing out of valve cover jacket, filling spark plug wells and causing misfiring. Concerned about fire hazard for all leaks.
A Aknocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. A Reduced power and/or hesitation and vibration. A Illumination of the "check engine" light in the instrument cluster.
The engine stopped working completely
I have been keeping up with regular repairs and oil changes on my vehicle; so I was surprised when the oil light flashed once or twice in the past week, specifically when I took a turn tightly. The oil was low when I checked it so I added a quart and didn't think much of it except "I should get into a shop soon and have that checked out." Two days later, my RPMs red-lined past 6-7k and the car was revving up but was not accelerating at all. I pulled over and checked the engine again and without showing any kind of leaks (no spots in my driveway/parkingspot) the engine had consumed the oil I added and then some. Moreover, the problem with the engine revving up but not accelerating was not fixed when I added the oil. It could have been very dangerous if I were on the...
My car goes through 5 qts of oil every 1500 miles. I have been in contact with numerous dealerships in the area, and nobody will look at it until the engine fails. Was told thats the only engine recall they will honor. So I am basically being forced to drive an unsafe car. I have a case with Hyundai, and all they have told me is to continue working with service managers at dealerships, even though this is impossible. My car only has 97k on it, I have kept up on its oil changes (not that it matters) and now am forced to spend extra money just to keep it hopefully running. My case# with Hyundai is 20870570. I owe around $15k on this damn car, and the trade in value has come WAY down to around $6000. In no way can I afford to take on $9k of negative...
OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE TURBO OIL FEED HOSE ONTO THE HOT ENGINE, HOT EXHAUST AND ENGINE UNDERCOVER THAT HAS A POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE HAZARD IN ADDITION TO TOXIC FUMES FROM OIL BURNING SEEPING INTO THE CAR. THERE WAS A TSB FOR A SIMILAR INCIDENT CAMPAIGN NUMBER 16-01-071 THAT AFFECTED 2011-2014 SONATA 2.0T AND 2013-16 SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T THIS MODEL THE 2015 SONATA 2.0T SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN AS IS IT EXHIBITING THE SAME ISSUE.
Engine keeps losing power not sure why & also abs brake system out of nowhere when accelerating in freeway they automatically brake sometimes for safety feature
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.4L is burning through oil like crazy and has been for a while now and I had no Idea. I get oil changes like I am suppose to do per the sticker and miles. Recently I drove about 4 hours away from home and I smelled burning but I had just got my breaks done and a oil change so I assumed it was the breaks . I got back home and still smelled the smell took it to the shop and they told me it was bone dry with NO oil at all. I was not at my mileage from the sticker so it wasn't time for me to get another oil change. They then told me these cars burns oil like crazy but that was the fist time anyone told me this and I have never had this issue ( I've had the...
After taking my car in multiple times to be serviced for a "Hybrid System Warning" mid last year, they were unable to read any error codes or diagnose any issue. I took it to two separate dealerships with no luck fixing the issue. I then completely broke down due to the same "Hybrid System Warning" on the highway on 7/26/22 heading to Pigeon Forge, TN with two children in the car. I had to have my car towed to the closest Hyundai dealership in Knoxville. They were unable to diagnose and fix my car within the timeframe I was in town. Since Hyundai would not provide me with a loaner, I had to get a rental car to get home that I was not reimbursed for. We ended up paying out of pocket to replace the safety plug/fuse and the power relay assembly on 8/9/22. After having the car back...
Engine seized with no warning. When speaking to a mechanic & the tow truck driver they both pointed out this is a known problem with the car. My teenage daughter was behind the wheel when this happened. There is such a demand for these engines the car has been in the dealership for 6 weeks now & I was informed that it is back ordered from Korea with no date of delivery. I am now stranded with no transportation & engine is under warranty. Car is at Elgin Hyundai, Illinois. If they are unable to get car running for unknown time & know this is a well known problem I feel a recall should be done on this car
I was driving on the freeway and all the sudden the check engine light started flashing. At the same time the engine slowed down and would not accelerate past 60 mph. I took the first freeway exit and drove to the nearest auto parts store. The store clerk hooked up a code reader and it came back with a P1326 code, Power Train System. Is it a real problem or just another bad sensor?
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after her vehicle received an oil change by an independent mechanic; she was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The mechanic informed her to monitor the oil consumption. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, an abnormal knocking noise was coming from the engine, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer who had previously informed the contact that any damage done to the engine would be covered under a class action lawsuit. The contact submitted two claims to the manufacturer for an engine replacement; however, both claims were denied. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Engine caught fire from unknown means.
On January 6, 2023, I was driving on the interstate when suddenly the engine started vibrating, the check engine light came on, and I lost engine power. As I was in the left lane of a multilane interstate, I had to negotiate getting over to the right emergency lane. Because of the loss of power, I felt like this put me in a dangerous situation. Anyway, once I got pulled over, I had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. After diagnosing the vehicle, they say the vehicle needs a new engine. The vehicle had been consuming excessive oil since I purchased the vehicle in 2018 and has been getting progressively worse. At the time of the engine failure, it was burning about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. The dealership tried getting HMA to cover the engine replacement cost even though the vehicle was out of warranty but...
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was shaking uncontrollably and stalled. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to move. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the failure was due to the engine. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,203.
Vehichle goes into limp mode on highway causing a drastic reduction in speed. Dash says hybrid alert do not drive. Loss of speed put me in danger due to loss of power and vehicle control. Dealer claims it is a bad brake booster that caused car to go into limp mode… Want to charge me 3k to fix.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 174,000.
Shortly after I purchased car (April2021) from JD Byryder in Peoria,Il. the car was not running right. Motor cutting out loss of powwr. I have car shield and took the vehicle to Hyunadi dealer in Peoria,Il. and also to a dealer in Dayton,Oh. was verified that the vehicle has a bad turbo. Car shield refusing to fix the car without engine being torn completly down, Hyundai dealers refused to help. Now the car is burning oil and no sign of where the oil is going. I bought this car in good faith was told the motor was under recall but nobody wants to take ownership and fix it under the recall.
The 2.4 engine of the Sonata 2015,2016 has irregular wear on the connecting rods, it makes a noise when it is turned on even if it has its maintenance up to date. I know of many cars with that engine that end up damaging the engine regardless of the mileage. I know of 1 with 52,000 miles what damage the motor.
My car has 113,000 miles and the engine went out going down the highway with my young daughter in the car. This could have been a disaster if someone would have been behind us. After researching about my issues I found almost all their motors are going out or catching fire. Someone needs to hold them accountable. My car has been in the shop for weeks now with no approval from Hyundai. My daughter almost died last year in a car wreck. What if someone’s engine goes out with someone behind them. Someone could lose a life. This is serious.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle with the check engine warning light illuminated before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact pulled over and waited until the vehicle cool down and was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the warranty had expired and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 183,096. The contact noted that they are the second owner of the vehicle. Also, the vehicle had never been serviced prior to taking it...
told the Hyundai dealer 2 years(March 2021) ago that I was concerned about my oil light flashing periodically between scheduled oil changes. No action other than oil changes and one time they added a couple of quarts "no charge" as it again was low. Continued to change oil more often than necessary and the frequency increased. Multiple other car repairs have been happening and the oil now has to be added weekly to maintain proper amounts. Had to change spark plugs 2 times with in 5 months and now another engine light came on today 11/15, and when I check the code at a parts store I was told is was a P03001 and P03002 which was something to do again with the cylinders misfiring. Everyone I have spoke to says this is an engine issue and it is under recall. I did place a claim with Hyundai Care USA...
Intake actuator for camshift seal failed. Internal oil seal plug is leaking. There is a recall for this already but Hyundai is telling me recall is not attached to my VIN so they are refusing to fix it. my make model year is 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.4l. Engine light is on. It is unsafe to drive as engine revs extremely high, and when I take my foot off break engine lurches forward. This is a safety issue making car unsafe to drive. I have been fighting with Hyundai for 6 weeks now, and they still refuse due to national recall in place, is not attached to my VIN. Please attach recall to my vin as this is exact issue I am having.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that soon after refueling the vehicle, there was a strong fuel smell and that when he was stopped at a traffic light, there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that once he was home and parked the vehicle, he was unable to open the hood because of how hot it was and he then saw flames coming from underneath it. The contact attempted to extinguish the flames with two fire extinguishers but was not successful. The fire department was called and they extinguished the flames. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the instrument panel and all of the front of the vehicle were melted. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The contact's insurance company and attorney advised the contact to file a complaint with the...
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle began to shake violently. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle off to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle was still shaking. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence at approximately 10 MPH. The contact had called an independent mechanic to her residence who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My engine failed and was repaired under a campaign recall. Tim Short in Pikeville ky kept my vehicle 3 months to install new engine. Check engine light came on on the way home the day I picked it up. Made appointments to go back and have it checked and they said catalytic converter was clogging up but it would be my responsibility to fox it at my cost. Asked If it would be safe to drive oh yes you may lose a little Power over time but should be fine. Left the dealership and didn't make it home the car started vibrating and shit down got it started back and barely made it to a place to pull off. Car had no power, smoke boiling out of engine and exhaust. Dealership and hyundai refused to cover having it towed back. This last engine was the 3rd engine put in this...
The engine is consuming excessive oil. My vehicle is available for inspection The problem has been confirmed by an oil service company Valvoline in Munster, Indiana The "oil" lamp appeared on my dashboard for a brief moment. I filed claim with BBB Arbitration for the Hyundai Theta Engine Recall but since my engine hasn't blown up, they will probably deny it. Case # HEE2220129 Jump vs Hyundai Theta Engine Settlement Extended My engine is consuming a quart of oil every 3oo miles or less. 1)12/15/2021 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 101,230 Oil services, based on being “Offstick” resulted in new oil filter and engine cleaner. 4/25/22 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 103,003. Only 1,773 miles between the oil changes. 7/11/2022 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 104,423. Only 1,420 miles between the oil changes I contacted Webb Hyundai in Merrillville, Indiana for a recall that...
The vehicle is used as a commuter car, and driven primarily on NJ Turnpike at high speed. Over a two month period, on four occasions, the engine has shut off. All dash lights came on, and all power assist controls failed. Managed to get to shoulder of road, and after a few minutes, car would restart and run properly. The fourth time it happened, as I coasted onto shoulder, the car restarted by itself. Took car to dealer for diagnosis and repair and was told there were no codes and it "could be" any number of parts not working properly, but no actual diagnosis. Was charged $160 dollars, and I took vehicle home. But when I looked over the invoice, I found the description of problem was not what I had told service rep, so went back to talk to service manager. He told me to bring it back in...
