I was driving down the road the engine started making a loud knocking noise and as I pulled over it lost power and shut down it would not crank back up I had to have it towed to my house. There was no warning sign.
The car just stopped while driving.
As we were driving on the highway at 65 mph, the car completely cut off. Fortunately, we were able to immediately steer it off the road to avoid an accident. We had it towed and the mechanic at the auto repair shop said the engine was completely shot. He advised us to have it towed to a Hyundai dealership because he had seen this same situation with other Hyundais with limited mileage and said there may be a safety recall or a class action lawsuit. My car has 60,000 miles and is well maintained.
I was driving and when turning into a parking lot, I accelerated and the vehicle stalled. It did not go suddenly when accelerating. A couple days later, I use a code reader and have a code listed as P1326. So I take it for a diagnostic at a local shop and I am told it is the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). I was advised to take it to a Hyundai dealer because often these vehicles have manufacture warranty since there’s recalls. There have been some vehicles under this recall Hyundai put out as Service Campaign 966 or 982. They have had vehicles deal with this sensor issue before. Hence why there is a campaign issued. I review to see if there are any recalls on my vehicle and tare none but there are other models listed for this particular issue for Hyundai vehicles. My vehicle was driving fine and...
Hyundai is denying a lifetime warranty claim on my 2015 Hyundai Sonata. Recalls have been completed on my vehicle and even with knock sensor recall completed my engine light is not on and they will not grant me a new engine. If though the Hyundai Dealer agrees that the engine has the bearing issue that would grant me a new engine.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
2015 Hyundai Sonata - original owners. Started burning and engine light came on at 124,000 miles. Took it to dealer to be diagnosed and have oil changed. They called said engine oil was sludged up, they would not even change the oil, and said it needed the engine replaced $9500. We contacted corporate Hyundai who said there was an extended warranty on the engine if the failure was related to connecting rod bearing wear. We were assigned a case and the rep contacted the dealer who said our vehicle didn’t qualify. In doing research we’ve read that this damage cannot be determined without dropping the oil pan. We questioned the rep about this and was told we didn’t qualify because of the maintenance on the vehicle.
On February 15, I was on my way heading back home driving in the freeway went my car randomly started jerking. I pull over to the side on the road pop the engine, did a visible check and i didn’t see anything. I went back on the road and it happened again, this time my check engine light came on and the car car started to knock very bad since then. I did a diagnostic scan and a code, P1326 came up saying that something is wrong with my knock sensor. Went and took it to a mechanic and I was told that my engine is gone and I need to replace it. Also that Hyundai has been having issues of the engine for a while.
Hello. I'd like to report an engine oil consumption problem. I owe Hyundai sonata 2015, 9 years and 5 months. I have been having engine oil consumption problem over 2 years. It was not that serious around 2023 and 2024, also I know this car has oil consumption problem, so I checked engine oil frequently and refilled it when level went down below the "L" level. Last week, I had an engine alarm whish was powertrain system problem " P2096". So I brought my car to Jeff's garage(180milles from my home) and fixed this problem. When I checked the amount of oil before I drove, level of oil was a little above "L" level. But, when the technician checked the car, they found that engine oil left 1 quart only. (I refilled the oil 4 times already for last 4 month, I drove around 2300 miles for last 4 month)...
In 8-2021 the original engine locked up due to a crankshaft bearing lock up. The dealer replaced the entire engine with a rebuilt. It locked up within 10 seconds after I drove from the dealer due to a massive external oil leak from the engine front area. The dealer could not determine where the leak was coming from and prepared a report to reflect this. The dealer then replaced this first replaced engine with another rebuilt engine. I drove it and within 5 minutes of driving the radiator plastic side tank exploded open and lost coolant. The engine then misfired and began to smoke out the tailpipe. and engine areas. The dealer demanded I pay $1,100 for a replacement radiator and then they would confirm that the head gasket was leaking from the combustion chamber into the cooling system that exploded the radiator side tank due to overpressurization from exhaust...
For about a month now the power steering was going in and out and then just the other day, the power steering went completely out, I am now having it towed to the dealership today 02/11/2025. I've also had oil consumption problems to the point where there is only 1 quart of oil left in the engine when getting the oil changed, had the combustion cleaning done and no help. Hyundai said no to a new engine, car only has 102,000 miles on it, only 10 years old and Hyundai hasn't helped a bit, said that I would have to come out of pocket but I ended up having to spend $600 on the cleaning, which is absurd.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle backfired and sputtered. Additionally, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH while driving uphill. Additionally, the contact noticed the presence of strong fumes inside the cabin, which caused her clothes and hair to smell like fumes. Additionally, the contact noticed that oil was spattering from the exhaust pipes and there was oil leaking onto the tires, causing the tires to leave oil marks on the ground while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an oil consumption test was performed, and the dealer confirmed that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The dealer informed the contact that the combustion chamber to be cleaned out and provided an estimate. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact...
Wednesday evening [XXX] I was driving on a rural Hwy entering onto another Hwy at a one way stop sign. This stop sign was on a blind hill with a partial obstructed view from the right and left. As I pulled out onto the road to go north onto a two lane Hwy towards my home, a truck pulling a trailer came into view from the left. To me the distance looked very close, so I accelerated to avoid a possible collision. Less than a mile down the hill my vehicle lost all forward movement. I costed to a safe stop on the side of this 2 lane Hwy. No warning lights or engine check lights were on the dash just typical signs of some sort of engine failure. The electrical system was fine. Everything else was working as it should. I had no idea I didn’t have forward acceleration...
Location: [XXX] Description of Incident: On a rainy morning, while driving to work, I encountered a sudden lane cut-off by a speeding truck as I exited a school zone. I applied the brakes to avoid a forward collision, but the brake system failed entirely. This resulted in the loss of vehicle traction, causing the car to spin out uncontrollably. The vehicle collided with an island, bounced into oncoming traffic, and sustained severe damage, including: •Tires ripped off the rims •Front axle damage Injuries: I sustained a lightly sprained neck as a result of the incident. Vehicle History: The vehicle had been in the custody of the Hyundai dealership just days prior to this incident for an engine/powertrain recall and replacement. The dealership held the car for over a week to address the issue. However, shortly after retrieving the vehicle, the brake failure occurred. Observations and Concerns: •The brake failure occurred...
A rod from the engine made a hole in the engine the destroyed the engine. My wife was driving on a highway wen the failure occurred. She was lucky to be able to get off the highway and safely onto medium before car came to complete stop. The dealer confirmed a rod destroyed the engine. Hyundai asked photos of the engine and other components. No warning lights came on before the failure. The only symptom was the engine was consuming a quart of oil every 1000 miles.
Approximately five weeks ago, my 2015 Hyundai Sonata showed a check engine light. I took it into the dealer and paid a diagnostic fee which revealed the third cylinder misfire in the engine. I paid to have the engine cleaned yet the light continues to stay on and the car has been Running low on oil every time it gets checked the dealer states that the engine needs to be replaced
Engine sputters, no power. Warning light comes on that there’s a malfunction pull over and do not drive. We had the dealer look at it and he couldn’t find anything wrong.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, was jerking, and failed to exceed 45 MPH. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the engine knock sensor was replaced; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was driven to a nearby dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to the connecting rod bearing failure. The dealer filed a claim with the manufacturer; however, the claim was denied. The dealer replaced the two engine knock sensors and the main fuel lines. Additionally, the fuel tank was drained; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to...
Engine burns too much oil and needs oil replenishment every 2 weeks while driving only 100-200 miles. This is extremely hazardous cause on highway the car can stall anytime which has happened in the past. The engine has been fixed for leaks before but still is burning oil and no mechanic will touch it saying it is a common issue of hyundai. Why is this model no part of the class action lawsuit?
My Hyundai sonata is burning oil internally from the engine
Engine not holding pressure. Week of September 22, 2024. Had to have car towed either [XXX] or [XXX] by Champion Towing to Columbus Hyundai. Spoke with Rodney Cockrell. Engine not holding pressure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine turned off running. Car was at Hyundai Dealer, Puerto Rico for 5 months. The car belongs to campaign lots 21-01-066H and 19-01-006H-2, which establishes alternative transportation service, or rental car coverage, the transportation service was denied. In addition, Hyundai PR did not provide me with a warranty period for the new or remanufactured engine, fuel pump and starter. A complaint was filed with DACO (government agency) and it was found in favor of the defendants Hyundai de PR and Sojitz (Cataño, PR) since they did not issue documentation reporting that it was covered under the campaign, they argue that it was as a courtesy (good will) which they also did not present evidence of. After repaired (200 miles) the car presented low voltage, code P0234-P0236 overboost condition, the unit was verified presenting broken cables from one tail of the map sensor. I incurred transportation and crane expenses, and the...
I took the car for 4 recalls it had 2 of which were physical and the other two were software according to them. Took the car back to drop someone off, turned it off and then on; it began losing and breaking on its own at slow rpm’s slamming on the breaks. a minute later after having turned the corner I turned on my hazards and it had continued to randomly happen to the car. It is not consistent it is completely random and I have had a mechanic only inspect it while it happened once because I’ve only been able to have it happen while being inspected out of luck . I’ve gotten several error codes to the car since from p04 misfires. Evap leaks etc. the car was in pitch perfect condition and after that day it has since stopped working properly . I have photos of the...
The vehicle experienced an engine failure with minimal warning. While driving 35-50 miles per hour, I experienced a loss of power upon acceleration. Within 1 mile of the trouble starting the check engine light came on. I was able to drive less than 5 more miles before the engine completely stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent service center, where I was informed the engine needed to be replaced. It was then towed to my home and is still there, without repairs.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the engine replacement request was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 140,829.
Hybrid system failure leading to complete power loss while driving.
My transmission literally went out once on me the SECOND DAY after I financed it. Now, less than a year later, it says I need to replace the transmission again. This is ridiculous.
My vehicle has an oil consumption problem despite the fact that my car has been excluded from the class action lawsuit. I’ve had it in the shop and they have confirmed the oil consumption issues. There are countless other vehicles excluded from the class action lawsuit that have the same theta engine as the other vehicles that were included in the lawsuit. This needs to be investigated. I still owe over 6k on my car and it’s one trip away from being completely undriveable
The contact's husband owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an oil change, the contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption and that it was a known failure. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 73-74 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and stalled. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rod bearing had caused engine failure. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact the failure was due to a factory defect and would reoccur even after the engine replacement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The dealer filed a claim with the manufacturer and sent a diagnostic report with pictures...
Was driving on the access road... Luckily .... When I lost all power. Turned off my car and wouldn't restart. Had it towed , 1 month later and $7500 had to get a rebuilt engine. Which now I'm having 100s of issues. Love my car but this is literally stressing me out. Bought the car 2 months before this all happened
I was driving on the highway and my engine violently started to shake and I pulled onto the shoulder and the engine shut off. I’ve had oil leak and engine problems with this car for 2 and a half out of 3 years! I’ve had to buy countless gallons of oil. Multiple spark plugs, coil packs, etc. You can’t drive the car for one whole minute without it stalling in traffic and almost causing accidents. So I can’t drive it!
No check engine light was on. Heat cold gage was normal. No lights indicated what so ever. Engine started knocking really loud turned off while driving 70 mph on the freeway when it turned back on wouldn’t go past 20 mph. when accelerating knocking would increase. Wouldn’t accelerate past 20 mph. Took my vehicle to my local Hyundai dealer to be assed and they told me about the 953 campaign recall. I knew nothing about. I am 4th owner to the car from a used local dealership. My local hyundai refused to replace engine as well as corporate due to 953 campaign not being installed prior to engine failure. I only had the car a year and half and engine always sounded abnormally loud. I did tell the dealership this when we purchased the car as well as a few times throughout the time we went to make payments in...
On June 30, 2024 I was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and the car caught on fire. There were no warning lights/ dash indicators/ no check engine lights or other warnings present. I had just exited the highway and while sitting at a light, smoke began emanating from the hood and within seconds the smoke turned dark brown at the vents near the windshield. I immediately exited out of the vehicle. I did not have time to pull over out of traffic. The car was engulfed in flames within a very short period of time. I had only seconds to exit the car. I would have struggled to get any passengers out of the backseat safely (i.e. kids in car seats) had I not been the only one in the car at the time. We had notified Hyundai of engine concerns that began in 2023, and they had given us...

My headlight and break lights constantly go out and need repairs and malfunction each time a change the light bulbs. My engine does not hold oil and it leaks constantly after 20 days of driving I have to get oil change every 30 days. I have repaired this leak on several times by the professionals and it still leaks and locks up my engine due to low oil.

In April 2023, I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco from Carvana with 56,000 miles. By May 2023, the mileage was around 72,000. While driving from South Houston to North Houston on [XXX], 2023, the car loudly popped as I exited the highway around 5:00 pm CST. I noticed smoke coming from the rear and parked in a construction zone near a convenience store. Upon inspection, the vehicle stopped working, and I saw a significant fluid leak underneath. A bystander alerted me to flames from the bottom and under the hood. I called 911, and the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries or property damage. I later discovered that specific 2011–2015 Hyundai models had been recalled due to fire risk (NHTSA ID: 23V-651000), but this did not include the Hyundai Sonata Eco. The recall was due to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module leaking...
Engine just stopped working. car stop running turned off in the middle of traffic in Dallas Tx. I took my car for an oil change the mechanic said he’s had plenty of 2015 sonata engines just give out and some catch a fire as well.It gave no warning and no smoke. This happened last week.
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport with 63k miles does not show any open recalls relating to fires however, my car was parked, went to turn it on, smelled an electrical smell and white smoke began billowing out of the engine. Within minutes the vehical engine compartment was engulfed in flames. I was able to remove my family from the vehicle and fire department came out to extinguish the vehicle. Thankfully everyone movedthere vehicles and no other vehicles were impacted but insurance has inspected the vehicle and determined it's a total loss as the whole engine compartment is melted. If not for me thinking and the action of others, many others cars could have been burned and my family burned and injured as they are still shook up about. Hyundai offered me a low settlement but there is know recall on the specific VIN for electrical or engine issues. The following...
UNKNOWN, car was driving fine on the highway, then all RPMS were lost and the car couldn't accelerate past 40mph. At the same time a loud knocking started and when i was able to park and pop the hood, the engine was clearly vibrating and the source of the knocking is undetermined. there are recall's for improperly welded rods in the 2013/14 model sonatas and the 2016 so i find it hard to believe that Hyundai doesn't know that this year and make would have the same known issue and those models have all had recalls already except for mine...

ENGINE CYLINDER MALFUNCTION. LOSS OF POWER AND CHOKING, HESITATION IN MOVING FORWARD. COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT OR TRAFFIC FLOW. NOT CONFIRM BY DEALER. BUT AUTOMOBILE IS REPAIR SHOP TO DETERMINE PROBLEM.NO WARNING SIGNS ARE DISPLAYED.
I have had my car serviced twice by the Hyundai dealership for the same exact issue. I believe I was told it was a knock sensor. A refurbished engine ended up being put in. The car is still having the same issues as when I first got it serviced in 2021/2022. My car is sputtering, loses power when accelerating and stalling. My car has always had an oil consumption issue and is causing additional issues with spark plugs.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated when the vehicle started, there was a loud clanking noise coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rod-knocking sound was coming from the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Intake Camshaft, Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit and Brake Booster are the system that failed all in the same week. My safety is being put at risk because of the bad brake booster I almost rear end someone else. My car doesn’t accelerate has it should initially which could cause a wreck. Problems has been confirmed by independent service center. My car has been inspected by mechanics. My engine light is on and when diagnosed the codes P0011-00 & P0010-00 pop up.
