NHTSA Complaint #11494029 — 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle with the check engine warning light illuminated before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact pulled over and waited until the vehicle cool down and was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the warranty had expired and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 183,096. The contact noted that they are the second owner of the vehicle. Also, the vehicle had never been serviced prior to taking it to a dealer to fix the knocking sound.
