What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The steering system of my Ford started to fail, to be specific my steering wheel went hard and it was impossible to turn it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving at around 50 miles per hour, and I was with one friend and all of the sudden my steering wheel stopped working and I had to pull over immediately since I was no longer able to drive it. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I have heard that these cars 2010-2012 Fusions have this problem and they are a lot. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem...

The steering wheel faulty. it is available for inspection This is a recall but my vehicles miles are 170000. It puts safety at risk because the steering wheel will stay still and will not move. No it hasn’t been confirmed but i contacted by phone. No it hasn’t been inspected by others but just took my car in for a service it first appeared 1 month ago saying steering wheel faulty

The steering wheel becomes stiff and won’t move.. I can not turn it at all if I’m driving.. which can cause me to have an accident because I can’t even turn the wheel. Also I called Ford here in Mississippi and they said my particular VIN was not in the recall for power steering problems but it was in the years that were recalled. My teenager drives this car and that’s how we found out, she called me panicking and that could have ended very badly.

Power steering suddenly went out on Thursday 6-25-24. No warning, started ut up around 9 am and service light for "power steering now"came on and is no longer working. Other Fusions have had a recall for this same issue. I believe the 2011 should have a recall for the power steering. This is a serious safety hazard and with no issues leading up to the problem and no warning, is dangerous and costly.

In June 2023 I experienced sudden steering failure with my Fusion. Upon checking parts costs at my local dealer (North Star Ford) I was advised that there may be an extended recall. I checked with the service department who reportedly checked with Ford and advised me that the recall was still in effect if certain codes were met despite its 186,000 miles. I had to have the vehicle towed to North Start and they verified the proper codes. When they sent the claim to Ford it was denied. North Star was un-able to get an explanation as to why they were told it was covered or why it was denied. I was given a Ford customer service #. I had to have the vehicle towed again. Upon calling Case #CAS44009218 was assigned but was given no assistance. To date I haven't heard from either North Star or Ford. I have...

This is in regard to programs 15S18/14S06 and 15N01 for power steering failures. Ford was addressing the recall by reprogramming the module instead of repairing the failing part. Customers (such as myself) who addressed the recall via this method were left bearing the cost of repairs when the part failed. Customers who did not address the recall by having the module reprogrammed are getting their steering gears replaced by Ford at no cost. I've had multiple Ford dealerships tell me that they don't feel it's right, but they are handcuffed by what Ford is instructing them to do in these situations. My vehicle has now been inspected and diagnosed by a Ford dealership, and I've paid to have the steering gear replaced. This is a very expensive repair. The dealership quoted $3200. My request is for the NHTSA to reassess this situation and recommend that Ford do the right thing...

The "Power Steering Assist Fault" light came on when the car was started and the steering wheel was very heavy and hard to move. Simultaneously, the "Service AdvanceTrac" light also came on. The vehicle was later scanned and an internal component failure code "U-3000:04-68" was identified for the Power Steering Motor. This is an internal system failure. The safety risk was to the driver along with other drivers on the road due to the vehicle being harder to control. The failure happened during a 600 mile drive and the vehicle was driven home carefully as no other arrangements could be made. Driver sustained wrist injury and pain at the carpals from increased effort needed to manually steer vehicle. Since I have had this vehicle I have had power steering faults every other week sometimes multiple times a week sometimes they take a couple week break, but the power steering cuts out and I get a power steering assist fault or service advancetrac fault on the display and it cuts out the power steering. If I pull over and shut it off and turn it back on it will go away and I can continue with power steering again. Sometimes it does this before I get going and sometimes it does this while I’m driving and the only solution is turning the ignition off and then waiting a bit and starting it again. Sometimes I have to do it 3-4 times but it will eventually behave normally again. However today, luckily while still at home, the service advancetrac will not go away and power steering is completely gone. Only...

Loss steering not able to drive.
#11569895 |
The power steering went out on my son while driving and he could have gotten in an accident! at 61k miles and the part on this car was made 10 days before the recall. I believe this VIN should have been included in the Steering Gear Assembly recall! Now I’m stuck with a 2k repair! For a faulty Steering Gear Assembly! And Ford Motor won’t budge- spouting the 60k warranty. This part should not fail at 61k- it’s a known issue! Many engineers at Ford have told me it’s highly likely the part in my car could have been in the same manufacturing lot as the ones recalled.

While driving power steering lost. Instant loss of control of vehicle. Brought to dealer scanned for diagnostic code U2011 present. The dealer applied to have my steering rack replaced under campaign 15N01. Ford denied. I called for customer service and although they are aware of the issue it is Not a recall so they are not required to replace it or offer any good will. The campaign is expired on my vehicle by 3 years. This should be a safety recall for which there is no expiration date. It is up to the NHTSA to enact this potentially deadly situation. Ford has acknowledged this defect for which I have already experienced loss of power steering but is hiding behind a date on an expired campaign verses a safety recall. What needs to happen for this to be a recall which would require Ford to address their faulty part?? Please contact...

The power steering went out in my vehicle after it being well in the negative temps as I live in North Dakota. After doing some research online it seems to be a common issue with my vehicle. I am glad it happened not while I was in motion, as losing power steering on the highway would not have been good. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power Steering Assist Fault. It has been looked at by an independent car shop and the Ford dealership where I live. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Power steering going out. While I was not in motion at the time of the failure, if i had been the safety of everyone around me and my own life would have been put at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or...
