Loss of power steering
Power windows and power mirror buttons stopped working and then “Service power steering now” message came on and the steering wheel is locked and very hard to turn. The electrical wiring for the windows run through the power steering gear. The vehicle has not been inspected or repaired
As I was driving, a “service Power steering” warning came on along with another warning about my power assist being lost. I have taken my car to see a mechanic a total of 4 times for this same issue and need answers or reimbursement.
While driving in the rain, I lost power steering and had several unrelated waring lights come on. Dash lights flickered. Engine continued to run normally but warning lights came on and off. I was able to drive to a safe location and turn the car off. When I restarted the car everything was normal including the power steering. This happened 2 more times on the 12 mile trip home. In the last 60 days this has happened 3 more times during a rain. On one of these occasions the steering came back on like normal with out me stopping.
Over the past couple of years the steering wheel has locked. But would reset if turned off and on. The traction light also engaged temporarily and later went off. When I took my vehicle in to the dealership at Blue Springs Mo Ford on [XXX] for service and diagnostic they indicated a sensor and/or steering mechanism needed repair or replaced and the part has been on back order. They would order the parts-and let me know when they came in. They have yet to contact me on the part. They said it could be some time. . About a month the tire pressure sensor fault warning came on so I was looking repairs. Early this week while driving the power steering quit working. A day or so later while troubleshooting the dash display reported faults with both power steering assist and advance tract. After turning it back on and off...
While driving the vehicle on a busy street, proceeded to steer car to turn at an intersection and the steering started failing and was extremely hard to steer. The message appeared electronically, saying service power steering now and car then shut down. We immediately got car to independent mechanic. Was not aware of any vehicle recall, but seems to be repaired. Happened very recently. Early Nov. 2023.
Going down road about 40 mph when power steering was lost with lots of warning.
When I turned my Ford Explorer on yesterday, the Power Steering Fault light came one. This has happened in the past, but when I shut off and restart my car, it has always reset and worked. But yesterday, it didn't reset. Besides the power steering, the Advance Trac light is also on. My blinkers will not stay engaged unless I hold the lever. I can't get in to the Ford Dealer for a month. It is very difficult to drive without the power steering working. The warning lamps came on when I started the car. Thankfully this didn't go out when I was driving.
The Electronic power steering went out for the third time while trying to park at grocery store parking lot. We have paid for 3 replacements and reprogramming now for the 3rd time it’s out again.
My rear view camera was replaced in August 2019 as it stopped working. It was an expensive costing $1000 to repair. It just stopped working again. Car has 100500 miles and this is excessive for what I consider a safety feature in a car this large. I was just told by Ford the backlog for a new camera nationwide is greater than 240 units and some customers have waited over 6 months. I searched online and found many complains on model years 2011 forward due to a bad design flaw that allows moisture in a wiring harness causing corrosion / failure. In my opinion, Ford needs to step up to root cause and provide options other than a complete replacement that only temporarily solves the issue
The dash lights go off then it's says starting rebot. Air bag lights stay on. Check engine light on says miss firng. All Carfax report was forged. Dealer said needs new engine but was not told by seller. No one will fix it they say not worth the price for car. I over paid big time. Got lied too.
on december of 2022 the power steering go out during I was driving with my family and the steering it was very hard to keep control of the steering I almost lost control of the vehicle the good news is no car it was around me I try to do my best to get home safety .after the mechanic diagnostic he mention it this ..ON MAY 2014 FORD COMPANY ISSUE A RECALLFOR THE 2011 -2013 FOR EXPLORER FOR A DEFECT ON THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM ..so I contact ford and they tell me I have to repair the total out of my packet becouse they cant see any recall but my car it was made during the time frame the recall it was made I really not understand why they can even look this problem I cant imaging if I was on the higway on high speed I really scared...
My 2011 ford explorer steering randomly went out . As I researched I realized that there was a safety recall 14s06 for that particular car. Apparently that recall was announced in 2014( before I purchased the vehicle) the previous owner took the truck to the dealership the have the pscm checked and no codes came back so it was only reprogrammed which is suppose to prevent steering loss which is what I am currently dealing with. The dealership is not trying to replace the part free of charge as stated in warranty although they know this is serious safety issue on this vehicle . They are trying to charge me 2800.00 to have the part replaced.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the "Service Power Steering" warning light illuminated along with several unknown warning lights. The contact stated that she was able to drive to her residence with the warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while driving up her driveway, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that she turned the vehicle off and shifted to park(P), turned the vehicle off and on and the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to a manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Program Number: 15N01 (EPAS Steering Efforts). The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.
I was driving on the highway and the steering wheel locked on me. He was hard to turn and I also hit another car in the back.
I keep losing my power steering. i called ford and they told me the recall to fix it was out dated . this could cause an accident . and shouldnt have a time line to have it fixed . It has happened several times the last year
The steering wheel gets hard to turn it acts like it has glitches in it. It goes from easy to hard and doesn’t come out of it’s turns on it’s own I have to pull it back. Almost acts like I’ve lost the power steering.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) had become defective which caused the front and rear defrosters to not operate as needed. The contact also stated that the APIM failure had caused the rear backup camera to not function. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

REAR BACK UP CAMERA STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME SO I CANNOT SEE DIRECTLY BEHIND THE VEHICLE WHILE BACKING UP
DRIVING AT 35+ ENTERING ON RAMP MPH THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND JUST STOPPED. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS WENT OFF BEFOREHAND. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE LOW PRESSURE LAMP TOO AND AN ALARM SOUNDED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO (TOLD ME MY ENGINE WAS MILKY DESTOYED)TWO DEALEARS THEN TO FORD. THEY CALLED THIS MORNING AND SAID THE WATER PUMP WENT OUT CAUSING CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED. THEY QUOTED $8,000.00. HAD TO GET A $10,000 LOAN. THE AC/HEAT SPEED WILL RANDOMLY INCREASE/ DECREASE TO EITHER FULL OR LOW SPEED WITH IS CLICKING SOUND LIKE YOUR DOING IT ON YOUR OWN. THIS WILL CAUSE MY WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP WHEN COLD OUTSIDE WHILE DRIVING & DISTRACTING ME THE DRIVER THE ANNOYING CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE UNIT ITSELF. THIS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSING ME NOT TO SEE SOMETHING COMING OR IN THE ROAD CAUSING ME TO WRECK & PUTTING MY FAMILY IN DANGER.

VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND HAS BEEN FINE UNTIL TODAY. PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION, TIRE LOW LIGHT CAME ON, PULLED OVER TO GET AIR AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. COULDN'T GET THE VEHICLE STEERING TO WORK AT ALL.
HAZARD LIGHTS CUT ON BY THEIRSELVES WHILE I WAS AT WORK. VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF. LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF
VEHICLE TURNS OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHILE IN MOTION. COMPLETE SHUT OFF
THE INTERFACE MODULE ON FORD EXPLORER STOP WORKING AND HAZARD LIGHTS STAY ON AND ONLY FIX AND BY A DEALERSHIP
STARTED THE FORD AND THE BACKUP CAMERA WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. ALSO NOTICED THE 'SYNC' SCREEN WAS BLANK, CLIMATE CONTROLS WERE NOT VISIBLE (FUNCTIONING) AS WELL AS THE RADIO SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. WENT OUT AND STARTED THE SUV IN MY DRIVEWAY, EVERYTHING WAS CORRECT WHEN I RETURNED HOME THE NIGHT BEFORE.
I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR RUFFLY 3YRS. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH IT IMMEDIATELY.... I WAS DRIVING TO THE MAIL BOX AFTER GETTING HOME FROM ABOUT A 30MIN TRIP. THE WHOLE CAR CUT OFF LIGHTS WERE DIM IN THE CAR, STEERING HAD LOCKED VERY HARD TO TURN... AUTOMAX IN KILLEEN TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. HAD THE NEW PURCHASED TRUCK FOR A MONTH AND 2 DAYS. THEIR SERVICE TEAM TOLD ME IT WAS THE BATTERY. I FELT OTHER WISE AND NO LONGER WANTED THE CAR. BUT OF COURSE BY THIS TIME ALL PAPERWORK HAD WENT THROUGH TO THE BANK......DROVE THE TRUCK FINE FOR ABOUT 8MONTHS, THEN BROKE DOWN THE SAME WAY AS THE VERY FIRST TIME BUT ON A BRIDGE THIS TIME...... THIS TIME AROUND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ENGINE, GOT A SECOND OPINION, SAID PERSON SAID WATER PUMP. I FIXED...

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY REGARDING NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10053471 (EQUIPMENT, EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE) WAS CLOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I LOSE POWER STEERING WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON AND HAVE TO TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON TO REGAIN POWER STEERING. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE LAST FEW YEARS.
NUMEROUS REPAIRS TO AIRBAG SYSTEM. AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND PREVIOUS REPAIRS INCLUDE, SEATBELT TENSIONER, SEVRERAL JUMPERS AROUND THE CONNECTION UNDERNEATH DRIVERS SEAT, AS WELL AS SOME KIND OF PROGRAMMING IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. IVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW AND IT HAS BEEN IN DEALER AT LEAST 6 TIMES FOR AIIRBAG ISSUES. PLEASE DO A FULL INSPECTION OF THE AIRBAG SYTEM INCLUDING FAULTY WIRING HARNESS!!!
WHEN YOU SHIFT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE PARKING SENSOR DOES NOT ALWAYS RECOGNIZE THE SHIFT THUS LEAVING A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD/SCREEN SAYING 'SHIFT TO PARK.' TO CORRECT THE ISSUE YOU HAVE DEPRESS THE SHIFT LEVER OVER AND OVER TO GET IT TO SHIFT IN PARK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ON THE BLOGS, AMONGST VARIOUS FORD OWNERS.

NO OTHER ENGINE OR VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONS DURING THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP, EXCEPT REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND TIRE REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, ON MAY 15, 2019, VEHICLE SENSOR NOTIFIED OIL CHANGE NEEDED. FIVE DAYS LATER VEHICLE STALLED AT LOCAL MOTEL DUE TO DECREASED POWER, ROCKING MOTION OF CAR AND LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO SLOWLY TURN INTO LOCAL HOTEL TO CUT OFF ENGINE AND GET TO SAFETY. AFTER 2 HOURS OF LETTING VEHICLE SET AND COOL DOWN, LOCAL MECHANIC, CHECKED AND SAID WE HAD ENOUGH OIL IN VEHICLE AND NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED. "SERVICE POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, CODE WAS FOR LEFT STEERING CONTROL MODULE. ONE WEEK LATER, POWER STEERING WAS INTERMITTENT, THEN WENT OUT COMPLETELY. TOOK IN TO FORD DEALERSHIP, CODE FOR SAFETY RECALL 15N01 CAME UP, FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS MY VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER RECALL BUT FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO FIX, STATING "NO HOUSEHOLD LOYALTY", BECAUSE I'VE NOT PURCHASED A FORD BRAND NEW. WHEN CALLING FORD ABOUT THE ISSUE, THEY SAY THEY "WILL STAND BEHIND THE FORD DEALERAHIP IN THEIR DECISION"; YET NOW THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS READY TO FIX AND WAITING FOR THE AUTHORIZATION CODE FROM FMC, FMC WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE DEALERSHIPS DECISION.
THIS VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A RECALL FOR THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. RECALL WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE IN 2014 NOW IN 2019 AT 150,000 MILES AND AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY THIS TIME IT COST ME $1,800 TO GET FIX JUST TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM RECUR 3 TIMES. I ALSO GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS MORE THAN A SAFETY ISSUE AND I NOTICE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. WHEN WILL FORD DECIDED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (AUTONATION FORD NORTH CANTON, 5900 WHIPPLE AVE NW, NORTH CANTON, OH 44720, 1-877-346-8338) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT 1 OF THE 4 MOTOR BLENDERS FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A DISCOUNTED RATE BUT APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER THE FAILURE REOCCURRED WHERE ANOTHER 1 OF THE 4 MOTOR BLENDERS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THE SECOND MOTOR BLENDER WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM PURCHASED BY THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE OTHER 2 MOTOR BLENDERS IN THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS...
THE "SYNC" TOUCHSCREEN STOPPED WORKING. ONCE THIS HAPPENED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SETS TO "OFF" ALL THE TIME. THE FORD DEALER REPORTS IT REQUIRES A NEW APIN, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR 5 YEARS FROM DATE OF NEW PURCHASE.
MY WHOLE SYNC SYSTEM HAS TURNED OFF NOT ALLOWING IN VISUAL ON CONTROLLING RADIO, TEMPERATURE, OR DESTINATION. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER PURCHASING BUT I HAD LIVE NOW NOTICED IT'S GETTIBG WORSE. THERE ARE A LOT OF TROUBLE SHOOTING IDEAS SUGGESTED. DISCONNECTING NEGATIVE CABLE, REMOVING A FUSE, AND RESTARTING SYNC SYSTEM. I AM NOW GOING ON THREE WEEKS AND MY ISSUE IS YET TO BE RESOLVED. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE MORE ELECTRICAL THEN SYNC SYSTEM.
WHEN DRIVING A WARM VEHICLE (MEANING IT WAS DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED FOR 1-5 HOURS) THEN DRIVING IT A SECOND TIME WITHIN THIS TIME FRAME, THE VEHICLE WILL DIE AFTER DRIVING 15-25 MINUTES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE RADIO CONTINUES TO WORK, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON AND THE LIGHTS AROUND THE SPEEDOMETER COME ON. THE REST OF THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL IS DEAD. THE REMOTE WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE CAR WILL REMAIN IN THIS STATE FOR ANYWHERE FROM 10 SECONDS TO 4 OR 5 MINUTES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 OR SO TIMES IN THE MONTH THAT I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE. IT HAS HAPPENED PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN AND ALSO GOING 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH IS VERY SCARY). IT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED IN THIS 15-25 MIN TIMEFRAME. I HAVE NEVER HAD IT HAPPEN IN LESS TIME THAN THIS NOR HAVE...
WHEN PLACED IN PARK THE VEHICLE WILL NOT LIGHT UP THE PARK INDICATOR LIGHT 95% OF THE TIME. BECAUSE OF THIS THE REMOTE START WILL NOT WORK AND THE CAR CHIME WILL RING CONSISTENTLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD IT IS A SWITCH THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THAT WILL COST ME @ 500.00. I SEE THIS COMPLAINT LIST ON THE INTERNET FOR MANY OF THE EXPLORERS AND OTHER MODELS YET IS HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN A RECALL. I BELIEVE JEEP HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WHERE THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACTUALLY GO INTO PARK AND IT KILLED SEVERAL PEOPLE. WILL THIS BE THE NEXT PROBLEM WITH THESE FORDS THAT SHOW THEY ARE NOT IN PARK? APIM NOT WORKING IN TOO MANY CARS I SEEN INTERNET
MY STEERING WENT OUT ON MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MY RADIO AND SCREEN GOES OUT SEVERAL TIMES A MONTH.
GOT INTO MY CAR AFTER BEING PARKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND CONSOLE SCREEN NEVER TURNED ON. NO HANDSFREE PHONE CONNECTION, NO RADIO, NO NAVIGATION, NO BACK UP CAMERA. DID NOT COME BACK AFTER MORE THAN 2 WEEKS OF DRIVING. APIM FAILURE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FORD KNEW THIS PART WAS POOR BECAUSE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON IT UP TO FIVE YEARS BUT WOULD NOW ALLOW REPLACEMENT UNDER THE WARRANTY UNLESS THE APIM FAILED. $1300 REPAIR. APPLIES TO FORD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 12M01 AND NHTSA ID NUMBER 10044905.
I'VE REPORTED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP THAT WHEN I TURN MY CAR ON, AN ALARM ALERT SOUNDS AND I GET A WARNING LIGHT THAT SAYS, POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND I CAN'T MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TO RE-START MY CAR 1-5 TIMES FOR IT TO START WORKING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND A LIABILITY. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T PULL A CODE. HOWEVER LITERALLY AN HOUR AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR, I GOT THE WARNING AGAIN AND I TOOK A PICTURE OF IT WITH MILEAGE SHOWING TO SHOW IT HAPPENED AFTER. THEY CHARGED ME $100 TO BE TOLD MY CAR IS FINE. IT IS NOT. SINCE TAKING IT IN, MY REAR VIEW CAMERA WILL NOW NOT WORK. I HAVE MADE FORD AWARE OF THIS STEERING ISSUE AND WANT IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY. CLEARLY THE RECALL DID NOT ACCURATELY HIT ALL VIN...
