4 SEPARATE TIMES WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO STOP, TURN CAR OFF, RESTART, AND THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN TWO WEEKS. VERY SCARY SITUATIONS.

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,112.
POWER STEERING STARTED GOING OUT AT THE BEGINNING OF JUNE 2016. IF I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON, IT WILL WORK. BUT, NOT ALWAYS. IT TENDS TO GO OUT WHEN TURNING CORNERS, BUT JUST THIS WEEK, IT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS BY FORD EVEN THOUGH I HAVE SEEN THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR AND THE SAME PROBLEM!
THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT. SOMETIMES IMMEDIATELY UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE ON, OTHER TIMES WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING SLOW, OR TURNING. IT IS COMPLETELY RANDOM. THE QUICK/TEMPORARY FIX IS TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK OFF AND ON AGAIN AND IT GOES AWAY FOR A WHILE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO FORD AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH COMES TO A TOTAL OF AROUND $1500. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEMS OTHER VEHICLES HAD THAT WERE A PART OF THE RECALL. MY YEAR IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN IS NOT.
I FILED A COMPLAINT THE OTHER DAY BUT IT HAS GOTTEN SO MUCH WORSE THAT I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PSCM WAS BAD. ALMOST $1300. IT WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALL #14S05 BUT IT DOES NOT REACH OUR MANUFACTURER DATE. IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO STEP UP AND EXTEND THE RECALL TO COVER ALL OF THE DATES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN LIKE HAPPENED TO ME THE OTHER DAY. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN IN THE INSIDE TURNING LANE WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING. NOT ONLY DID I LOSE POWER STEERING BUT IT SNATCHED THE WHEEL OUT OF MY HAND. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR NEXT TO ME BEFORE I GOT CONTROL OF IT. IF MY WIFE...
LAST YEAR IT BEGAN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. YOU COULD SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT AND IT WOULD WORK. AS TIME WENT BY IT HAPPENED MORE FREQUENTLY AND I CALLED THE FORD DEALER ABOUT A RECALL SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME ABOUT AND WAS TOLD THAT OUR ESCAPE WAS NOT INCLUDED AND THAT I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU. I DID THAT LAST YEAR AND HAVE GOTTEN NO RESPONSE. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IT HAS BEEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED SO MANY TIMES THAT IT KILLED THE BATTERY. IT STILL HAD VOLTS BUT NO LONGER HAD ENOUGH COLD CRANKING AMPS TO START THE ENGINE. NOW IT HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN IT STOPS IT ALMOST SNATCHES THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF YOUR HANDS. THERE IS NEVER ANY WARNING AND NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON....
POWER STEERING ASSIST RANDOMLY MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT BOTH LOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED BOTH GOING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. FORD HAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS NOT LISTED UNDER THE RECALL DESPITE BEING MANUFACTURED AT THE SPECIFIC PLANT THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM WITH. THE RECALL DATE STARTED ONE MONTH AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. FORD IS VERY MUCH AWARE OF THE MECHANICAL FAILURE AND REFUSES TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS FOR THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF SINCE 2009. THE RECALL NUMBER IS 14S05.

ADVISED THAT NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL AND COST TO REPAIR ALMOST $1200.

WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT ENGAGE. AFTER ONE OR MORE TRIES IT WILL FINALLY ENGAGE. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THE STEERING DISENGAGED WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD TO BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED AS ABOVE. MY LOCAL GARAGE FOUND ERROR CODE B1342 AND CONFIRMED BY A FORD DEALER. THE CODE MEAN THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SAID THE VEHICLE IN NOT COVERED BY THE RECAĺL 14S05. I SPOKE TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A CASE # WAS OPENED. WHEN I CALLED TO INQUIRE KEVIN SAID A CASE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OPENED AND AN INTERNAL INQUIRY WOULD BE STARTED. FORD OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T WANT COMPLAINTS RECORDED. THIS IS A FORD MISTAKE AND A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED AT THEIR EXPENSE. FORD EXECUTIVES ARE UNACCOUNTABLE AND APPARENTLY ONLY WORRIED ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE AND THEIR BONUSES. THEY TRIED TO MEET...
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. DROVE HOME ON LOCAL CITY STREETS WITH DIFFICULTY. THE NEXT DAY THE POWER STEERING WAS AVAILABLE AFTER STARTING THE CAR. CHECKED ON INTERNET AND FOUND THAT FORD HAS HAD A PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH THE MODEL VEHICLE. WENT TO THE FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRENTY. CALLED FORD SERVICE REP AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND THAT BECAUSE OF THE LOW MILEAGE, THEY MAY REPAIR IT.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNIT FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN A RURAL SETTING ON A 2011 FORD ESCAPE WITH 67287 MILES. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE CONTROLLED BUT WITH GREAT EFFORT. THIS UNIT HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF PREVIOUS RECALL 14V284000, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER THE CUTOFF DATE ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. ( CASE #8247746-B4F4D1). IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THE RECALL WAS EXTENSIVE ENOUGH AS THIS UNIT FAILED IN THE SAME MODE AS THOSE PREVIOUSLY RECALLED. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER QUOTE FOR REPAIR WAS $705.00 PARTS AND $322.50 LABOR.
WHEN DRIVING CAR GOING ABOUT 45MPH.CAR SHUT OFF AND WRENCH WILL APPEAR ON DASHBOARD . I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD , SHUT OFF CAR WAIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART CAR . I AM IN FEAR THAT CAR WILL SHUT OFF IN AREA WHERE THERE IS NO SHOULDER AND I WILL BE HIT FROM BEHIND . THERE SEEMS TO BE A PATTERN BUILDING WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM , SAME MODEL, SAME YEAR .

THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY DIDN'T WORK. UPON SEVERAL RESTARTS, IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN BUT SOMETIMES STOPS WORKING WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2008 - 2011 FORD ESCAPES BUT MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT HAS THE SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS THE CARS THAT WERE RECALLED. FORD WILL NOT TELL ME WHY MY 2011 WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE COST OF REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $1,000. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED BUT WON'T INCLUDE MY CAR.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2012 AND HAVE SINCE NOTICED THE VEHICLE LOSING THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. NO MATTER HOW FAR I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO OF STALLING, IT WILL SPUTTER AND SHUT OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE AUTO SHOP TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT MISFIRING A PISTON, OR THAT THEIR WAS ANYTHING IMMEDIATELY WRONG, BUT THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER TO WHY IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. MY TRANSMISSION ALSO STALLS IN GEARS AND WILL NOT SHIFT WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SAME DEAL TOOK IT IN AND RECEIVED NO ANSWER. THE BACK HATCH GLASS ALSO LEAKS TERRIBLY WHEN IT RAINS AND I CANNOT GET IT TO SEAL AT ALL.

DROVE A LITTLE OVER 2 MILES , EVERYTHING WAS FINE .CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I STARTED TO PULL OUT AND I NOLONGER HAD ANY POWER STEERING AND THERE WAS NOW A LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ADVISING OF N TRACTION OFF. I WENT HOME AND WAITED TILL MORNING AND DROVE TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC .THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO FORD BECAUSE THIS WAS A RECALL AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I HAD BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THAT RECALL LAST YEAR WHEN THEY SENT ME THE NOTICE AND MY STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRICAL WAS OK AT THAT TIME. SO ONE YEAR LATER AND $1100. LATER THIS PART BREAKS AND FORD DOES NOT THINK IT IS RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE IT WASN'T BROKE WHEN THEY LOOKED...
I WAS CROSSING A HIGHWAY AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS I HAD NO POWER! JUST A FEW WEEKS BEFORE IT WAS AT FORD FOR A TORQUE AND STEERING RECALL. WHEN I CALLED FORD TO INFORM THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY SAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY $130 FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE IT! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH FORDS RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED AND AFTER THAT THE CONTROL MODULE FOR THE AIRBAGS WENT OUT. THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION THE STEERING BEGAN LOCKING UP AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN SHOWING DISABLED. ALSO, THE CAR BEGAN SAYING TO RESYNC SOMETHING BECAUSE THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW WHEN IT WAS JUST FINE. AFTER RETURNING FROM VACATION AND THE STEERING COLUMN TOTALLY LOCKING UP SEVERAL TIMES, THE DEALERSHIP NOW TELLS US THAT ADDITIONAL CONTROL MODULES ARE OUT. WHEN THE STEERING LOCKS IT REQUIRES STOPPING NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AT AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE TO RESET AND THEN STARTING IT AGAIN. THIS PROBABLY HAPPENED A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES ON BUSY HIGHWAYS. THIS VEHICLE IS ROUGHLY THREE YEARS OLD AND THEY CAN'T EVEN SAY WHY THE MODULES ARE CONTINUING TO GO OUT AND IF FIXING THEM...
I WAS TRAVELING NORTHWEST ON I 26 WHEN I HEARD A POP AND LOST SPEED AND CONTROL. I EASED OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TRIED TO STOP. AT THIS TIME, THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEWBERRY AND LEFT THE CAR AT A GARAGE AND RENTED A CAR TO CONTINUE MY TRIP TO PICK MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND RETURN TO CHARLESTON. I HAD TO PAY 85.00 TO THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, 385.00 FOR THE CAR RENTAL AND 486.36 TO THE GARAGE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT. NOW I FIND OUT THIS HAS HAD A RECALL. MY FORD 2011 ESCAPE JUST COMPLETELY STALLED OUT DRIVING HOME. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN IT JUST SPUTTERED AND DIED. I THINK I EVEN HAD IT ON CRUISE CONTROL. TRAVELING ON I-71 SOUTHBOUND IN CLEVELAND, OH DOING A SPEED OF ABOUT 70MPH, I ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD NO POWER STEERING. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO STILL DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT TOO MUCH OF AN ISSUE. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN LATER IN THE DAY ONLY THIS TIME, I HAD STOPPED AT AN ATM. WHEN I STARTED TO PULL AWAY I NOTICED ONCE AGAIN I DIDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE WAIT FOR 5 SECONDS AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT THREE SEPARATE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. EACH TIME, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF, WITHOUT BEING HIT BY TRAFFIC. I HAD TO TAKE MY SEATBELT OFF AND RAISE UP TO PUT MY FULL BODY WEIGHT ONTO THE WHEEL. AFTER THE THIRD ATTEMPT AT RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON. I DRIVE ALMOST 50 MILES A DAY ON THE HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK, AND I'M VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, AND WON'T LET MY KIDS RIDE IN IT NOW. PHONE CALLS TO FORD AND TWO LOCAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN NO HELP. POWER STEERING LOSS. CAN RESET WITH SHUT DOWN AND RESTART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED DURING A TURN. THE RESULT OF THE FAILURE WAS A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN MY HEADING AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE. AFTER PULLING OVER, I TURNED THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND THEN BACK ON. MY POWER STEERING WAS THEN REESTABLISHED. I HAVE HAD THREE REPEAT INSTANCES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER. WHILE BACKING FROM A DRIVE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER/ELECTRONIC STEERING. I HAVE DRIVEN OLDER VEHICLES WITHOUT POWER STEERING BUT THIS WAS TWICE AS HARD TO TURN. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME AND HAD TO MAKE SURE TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR AT INTERSECTIONS TO AVOID OTHER TRAFFIC WHEN TURNING SINCE I COULD NOT AVOID GOING INTO OPPOSING LANES. AT 2700 MILES THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STARTED TO GO ON AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR A CHECK ON AIRBAG PROBLEM. SUPPOSEDLY FIXED, HOWEVER ONE WEEK LATER HAD TO RETURN VEHICLE TO DEALER DUE TO AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AGAIN GOING ON. PROBLEM SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY TIGHTENING LOOSE WIRRE CABLES IN CABLE HARNESS BUT ONE MONTH LATER RETURNED VEHICLE AGAIN AS AIR BAG WARNING WAS AGAIN COMING ON AND THERE WAS CONCERN AS WE DIDN'T KNOW IF AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY IF NEEDED OR WORSE MAY DEPLOY AT ANY TIME. ADVISED THAT CAUSE WAS EXCESSIVE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE IN WIRE CABLE HARNESS AND DEFECTIVE SENSORS.SINCE THAT TIME THERE HAS BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG READINESS WARNING. ELECTRICALLY ASSISTED STEERING IS HARD ON TURNS ON WINDING ROADS. HAD CAR TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND THEY SAY THE STEERING IS NORMAL. IT DID NOT FEEL THIS WAY WHEN IT WAS NEW. *TR
