Right after I returned home from a 1500 mile trip on a Saturday, my car started having an issue starting. Once I got it started and drove to the store, the Service Engine Soon light came on so I returned home. I checked the owners manual & it said I could drive 50-100 miles so I did make some required stops on Sunday. Had an issue starting the car again. On Monday I called a repair shop & took it in to them on Tuesday morning. They diagnosed the problem as Engine Intrusion - an internal issue causing coolant getting into the engine. They found coolant on the pistons & the TSB says to replace the engine. I contacted Ford Customer service & they had me bring it to a Ford Dealer - who diagnosed the same issue. I have followed all of Ford's maintenance recommendations for my car. If...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that coolant intrusion into the cylinders had damaged the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 73,000.
Due to a Ford design flaw my car has experienced what is called "coolant intrusion". TSB 19-2346. My check engine light appeared, solid in color and I brought it in for service/check on [XXX] at Apple Ford in Shakopee, MN. Diagnostics showed a P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire detected. The car was running rough on start-up and idle but once warm would run fine. Replaced all spark plugs & boots as it appeared some corrosion occurred on them. On [XXX] in the AM I was leaving my house to go to work. I pulled out from my townhouse complex onto the road and my car would not accelerate leaving me in the middle of the road. I had to shift my car into neutral and back into drive to be able to move from the middle of the road. Thankfully no other cars were coming at the time to avoid a...
In 2015 Ford Motor Company made an engine block modication on the 2.0 Liter Ecoboost (USA made) engines in an effort to keep the turbo boosted engine running cooler. The engine was used till 2019 in Edge and Escape models. For 2020 to current year the engines were redesigned ending the problem. At the end of 2023 I began experiencing a rough idle at times, check engine light displaying, white smoke from the exhaust and intermittent stalling. I was advised by a Ford dealer that I had coolant in my #3 cylinder indicating the problematic block. Ford's TSB (#19-2346 12/19/19) fix was a new engine assembly and also stated itcould result in a engine fire. A estimate roughly $8800.00. I purchased the Edge September 2022 with 32,000 miles. Ford would not extend any warranty coverage since the 5yr drivetrain warranty had passed. Currently the like new Edge (40K miles) sits...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle was shuddering with white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the spark plugs; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into cylinder #2 and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
On [XXX], at a little less than 80,000 miles, the service engine soon light came on one day and my car ran rough. However, it went off for the next day and ran fine, but went back on a few days later and ran rough once again. I took it the Liberty Ford in Parma, OH on [XXX]. They performed an electronic engine diagnostics and determined that the vehicle did run rough and that there was a miss fire in cylinder 3. Based on the Ford bulletin related to this engine, they followed procedure and performed a tune up and replaced the cylinder. I was advised that the bulletin also indicated that there could be a coolant intrusion into the engine assembly. However, Ford requires the service department to follow the process and that is why they did the cylinder replacement. If the engine light came on again in the...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed and determined that the head gasket was cracked, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 79,500.
[XXX] 2018 FORD EDGE TITANTIUM: [XXX] Engine failure due to coolant intrusion into the cylinders of the Ecoboost 2.0 engine [XXX]. Coolant leaks into the cylinders which leads to corrosion of the piston, gasket, and other parts in the engine causing engine failures and misfires and eventually can trigger a full-blown fire. For this reason, there was a Ford ecoboost coolant leak recall. There has been no fire, but the Ford dealership states that the engine needs replacement due to coolant leaks into the cylinders. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle began to buck when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was slow to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact to add two bottles of fuel cleaner to the fuel. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The contact was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Coolant Level Low message displayed, and there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle experienced rough idling. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle to cool down the engine. The vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the cylinders, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2346 (Coolant in Cylinders, White Exhaust Smoke, And/or Illuminated MIL); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Smelled gasoline under the hood? Technican ran test of engine and here is his report: "Checked the engine light found multilpe codes, I looked up the codes and they all said replace the engine. Did a headgasket test and found the headgasket is bad and that the coolant smells like fuel also." I was advised not to drive the vehicle! The car has only 58,208 miles on it, as senior citizen my acerage is less than 10,000 miles a year. I replaced the engine --$6,178.08. I have also been advised that I may have transmission problems. A search of the web to check for recallssrongly suggests I am not alone as this problem had been identified by other EDGE owners nation wide! I feel the Ford Motor Company has a major responsibilty for the defect.
Ford Ecoboost 2.0 engine in my 2018 Ford Edge failed at 71,945 miles due to cooling leaking into cylinder #2. Engine started rough for about two weeks but leveled out after about 5 seconds. When the check engine light came on while my wife was leaving home, we stopped driving the car until I could get an appt with Conway Heaton Ford in Bardstown KY. There the engine was found to have coolant leaking into the #2 cylinder. Dealer said the car was unsafe to drive and the engine needed to be replaced. They would not return the keys to me due to the safety hazard the car had become. Engine was replaced on [XXX] at a cost of $6916.00. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
In early 2023 I was driving on the highway and the engine shut down with a low coolant message on the dashboard. After a couple different trips to different mechanics, the local Ford dealer determined there was coolant intrusion in the engine block due to a cracked block. On approx 4/10/23 we ordered the vehicle to be fixed at a cost of $7329.04. Ford customer service was unwilling to help with the issue. This is a known issue among ecoboost Ford engines of this generation. So much so that there was a recall for the 1.5l engines(this is a 2.0l). We called Ford customer service who seemed like they were going to help at first but once the supervisor came on she told us she would not help and "if we truly cared about our vehicle we would have purchased an extended warranty". I personally know 4 other people who...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon start of the vehicle, the check engine warning light intermittently flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and it was discovered that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder #2. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
First indication of an issue was when the check engine light illuminated (2/1/2024). I took car to an independent repair shop who identified the codes as PO304 - misfire cylinder 4 and P0316 - misfire on start up. Borescope revealed coolant leaking thru #4 cylinder wall & cylinder #1 showing stream of coolant from cylinder head gasket. Ford TSB recommends long block engine replacement due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The car remained parked from 2/2/24 to 3/13/2024. 3/13/2024. On 3/13 I took the car to the local Ford dealership whose service department confirmed the original diagnosis. Safety issue - coolant intrusion into the combustion chamber could induce an engine fire or cause the engine to seize up while being driven. The car is still at the Ford dealership. The mileage when the CELcame on was 72944 miles. Current mileage approximately 72960. Toatal cost to repaired quoted at $...
2018 Ford Edge purched certified pre-owned in Novemeber 2023. In February, engine light displayed after diagnostic was ran, we were told that there is a coolant intrusion and we would need to replace the entire engine, approximately $8k. Ford Autonation, Valencia and Ford customer service directed us to contact you so we can report the coolant issue which is a known recall for Ford Edge. The VIN number doesn't fall within the recalled models, but since our vehicle is having the same issue, Ford told us to report this issue to you so that the VIN or Factory can be included in the recall. Ford case # CXH01736957. Car is currently at the Ford Autonation, Valencia Service dept.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact self-diagnosed the vehicle and retrieved DTC Code: P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected). The contact replaced the ignition coils; however, the failure recurred with the engine coolant overheating message displayed. Upon inspection, the contact discovered the engine coolant was low and there was coolant intrusion into the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
The heating in the car was not working. Then one morning the car started overheating and the check engine light came on. Taken to dealer to find the coolant was low and that it was leaking into cylinders 2 and 3 and now the engine needed to be replaced. This is an $8000 plus repair on a car I just bought for $20000 with under 75000 miles.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled while approaching a stop light. The vehicle continued to stall when it came to a stop. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. There was an abnormal fuel odor was detected on the interior of the vehicle. A message that the accessories were available was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who checked the battery. The contact called the local dealer, who informed the contact about scheduling an appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
Coolant intrusion into the cylinder. This is a known issue by Ford for a 2018 Edge. The repair calls for replacement of the long block assembly. Since this is a known issue, Ford needs to issue a recall for full replacement, even after warranty expires. This vehicle currently has 74,000 miles.
Check engine light will appear. Vehicle is blowing number two cylinder along with spark plug every two weeks. It is going through large amounts of antifreeze. Drives as if it is bogged down and shifts very hard and loud. While driving is shakes from front end. I have brought vehicle to a master mechanic and has started that the head gasket will eventually break or could catch fire. This is a on going issue at this time.
Car started to misfire and engine light came on. I took it to the autobody shop and was told I have coolant leakibg unto the combustion chamber and my car needs a new engine!
The contact's son owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the low coolant warning light illuminated. The contact's son drove the vehicle to his residence and parked the vehicle. The next day, the contact’s son attempted to start the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the engine failure was due to coolant leaking into the cylinders. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
My car began running rough and a check engine light came on. I took it to a reputable repair shop and the car presented a code indicating a problem with cylinder #4, so they proceeded with a routine tune up. The problem (rough idle and check engine light), then the heater quit working then without any warning the engine coolant temperature warning light came on. The shop examined the car to discover coolant was leaking into the cylinders. This problem is a known defect apparently, known not by me, but by the Ford Motor Co who sold this car with an engine they knew was defective and did not ever warn me. I am grateful the light came on while I was in the city and not out on an isolated highway somewhere without cell service. This is a very dangerous situation. My engine cannot be repaired it has to...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 45–50 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. While starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the wrench symbol was displayed. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking and slow to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a torque replacement was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA Hotline, but no assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V390000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
I was driving to a client and while on the interstate the alarm for engine temperature high came on. I pulled off immediately and put my emergency flashers on. I turned off the engine and waited 15 minutes as the manual said to do. I immediately went to buy anti freeze because it was low which was strange because we had the vehicle for two months at this point. Once I put the coolant in I checked the oil and it was fine. The car was ok and ran fine for about 1 week.We had made several calls to the dealership to have it repaired but they would not tow it at first until.ot broke down. Three weeks later. I called Ford because there is a class action lawsuit against them for failing to notify owners of a possible defect with the leak in engine coolant. Now the car needs...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated, with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating and there was a liquid swishing sound coming from the dashboard area. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed an engine misfire in cylinder #4, with coolant in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 78,000.
Coolant leaking into the cylinders. Repair is a new engine block. Nothing can be done to prevent it. Ford even has a technical service bulletin about the problem but have not recalled the vehicle for the issue. Car has only 82000 miles and is a 2018 and now having to pay for a new engine.
After noticing the car ran rough at start up, the "check engine" light illuminated and white smoke appeared under the vehicle, the car was immediately towed to a Ford dealership. Because of the smell and white smoke, it was known that this issue was with the antifreeze/coolant for the vehicle. Once towed and checked out, the service provider found coolant had leaked between cylinders 2 and 3. This was caused by a leaking head gasket and/or faulty design of the engine's coolant system. Because of the leakage, the service department of the Ford dealership contacted me and told me that I would need the long block replaced and it is costing me $4,723.66 to repair a problem that was a manufacturing issue. This issue is a safety concern because the leakage causes the engine to overheat and either shut down or catch fire from the coolant being in the wrong...
My vehicle has the 2.0 Ecoboost 2018 engine has developed a misfire in the number 2 cylinder. Vehicle is at a Ford dealership engine block has a manufactured defect coolant leaking into cylinder. I purchased lifetime power train warranty no Ford is trying to refuse to repair because. I performed some of the oil changes on the vehicle. Oil has nothing to do with the defective engine block or head on the engine. Ford is very much aware that there is an issue with the 2.0 Ecoboost engine and has fell to do anything for consumers.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that there was a misfire on cylinder #4. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the head gasket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 65,000.
2.0 Ecoboost complete failure Engine thermostat failure
The vehicle would run rough and falter upon cold start. The "check engine" light activated. The code indicated a misfire in cylinder #2 "permanent". The local Ford Dealership diagnosed the issue and informed me that coolant was getting into the cylinder and could eventually cause the engine to fail and pose a safety issue. The vehicle probably had 74,000 or less when I first noticed the symptoms. Initially, I replaced all the ignition coils and spark plugs, but it did not resolve the issue. At time of engine replacement, the vehicle had 76,195 miles on the odometer.
My 2018 Ford edge is needing an engine replacement. This is related to a technical service bulletin that Ford motor company released in December of 2019. TSB, 19-2346 and TSB22-2229. I am still covered under an extended warranty and powertrain warranty but they warranty companies are telling me because I had one oil change laps by 1,900 miles that it is not covered under warranty. Regardless, if it is covered under warranty or not, this should be something that Ford motor company pays for. Considering it is a known issue, there are open class action, lawsuits, and open forms about these recalls that haven't yet been called recalls.
Ford Dealership did an inspection due to check engine light being on and found Ford Edge 2018 needs a new engine due to coolant leaking into cylinders and pistons failing. The 2018 Ford Edge has 83,000 miles on it and is 5 years old and no longer under warranty.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware of white smoke coming from the exhaust tip. The contact also stated that the engine had been idling roughly and consuming an excessive amount of coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,500. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions, at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated on several occasions. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road for approximately 10 minutes and then restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired three times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
Coolant intrusion to engine, causing thick white smoke from exhaust . Engine light on . Causing spark plugs to be replaced . Having to replace coolant weekly in vehicle
Engine light came on and took 2018 Edge to mechanic. Diagnostic indicated misfiring of piston 2 and 3. Started by changing the spark plugs. Light came back on within a few days. Took car to Ford dealer and they indicated that coolant was leaking into cylinder 2 and 3 and that it could result in engine failure if not repaired including risk of a firer. Engine failure on the wrong roadway (i.e. busy urban interstate highway) could result in catastrophic engine failure and risk injury and loss of life. Given the volume of similar complaints for coolant leakage into cylinders, the probability of engine failure and its consequences should be enough to require a mandatory recall.
coolant leak and head gasket failure
Last July my check engine light came on giving us a P0302 code. We had the spark plugs changed. It went away for a week then came back on with the same code. We had the coil packs changed. Same thing. Went away for a week then returned. Now dealership is saying they want $9,000+ to replace time engine for an issue that has been known to Ford since 2010 with this engine.with less than 70,000 miles on it, white smoke is pouring out of my car, the engine is overheating and coolant is leaking. I’m told that this can cause a fire or worse, a wreck. I have children that I transport daily in this vehicle seeing how it’s our only means of transportation and we dont have the money to replace the engine much less buy a replacement vehicle. Ford needs to be held accountable for selling these...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate as needed with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 46,000.
We bought a new 2018 Ford edge with eco boost paid for the extra extended warranty …this pass Oct coolant is now leaking into the number 2 cylinder now the fix is a new engine which is 9000 and Ford only covering 3000 of it. Luckily husband is a me and knew to park the car until we got it into Ford for diagnosis. The engine can lock up at any time who’s to know when Would not be a good outcome on the highway Much less the shady deals of Ford not covering engines and selling them knowing this design flaw is their doing Who sticks up for the little people buying their 40000 cars and have no recourse
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle had overheated and vibrated uncontrollably. Once the contact pulled to the side the vehicle had became inoperable. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a gasket between cylinder 2 and 3 that had failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 91000.
Check engine light on misfire, replaced spark plugs and coil check engine light returned. Air pockets found in coolant. Check engine light back on with P0303 coolant test found coolant in cylinder 3 Ford is telling me I need a new motor - TSB 22-2229 Related to the concern. After doing research I found that there is a recall on my engine same year same motor size. Why is my Vehicle not covered under this recall??? Ford is not helping in anyway!
On July 8 2023 my check engine light came on and I took Edge to my trusted mechanic. He stated I needed a new engine. I had Edge towed to George Wall Ford where they indicated I needed a new engine. I contacted Ford and they stated I would have to foot the bill. I searched the web and found numerous individuals experienced same issue and there was a class action lawsuit filed in California which I joined. Please see attachments.
Ford dealer verified an independent auto repair shop diagnostic conclusion of coolant intrusion in cylinder 1. Ford has issues TSP 22-2229 regarding same issue with an open campaign. The vehicle exhibits low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and runs rough with an illuminated check engine light. The dealer confirmed it is "206" diagnostic condition code. At normal engine operating temperature, the cooling system was set to 20 PSI for 5 hours and the pressure dropped more than 4 PSI. Per the dealer, a customer case number was opened with Ford. Vehicle age: 5 years, 10 months. Mileage 39,536. Ford Customer Care offered to cover 40% off the repair cost. Offer was accepted. Dealer noted the following repairs: Removed the spark plugs, used a borescope and found coolant has entered the cylinders. Removed then engine and replaced the long block assembly using all of the approved ford gasket removers, parts cleaners,...
June 2023 the coolant started disappearing from the coolant tank. The vehicle was checked by a licensed mechanic and the coolant is leaking into the engine cylinders only. Nowhere else is it leaking. By it leaking into the cylinders, it is causing the car to misfire, This will lead to a car fire or a seized engine. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, therefore is parked. Ford should have recalled this turbo engine but has failed to do so or do anything about it. There are thousands of people with this problem, 3 in my community, several lawsuits around the USA. I need transportation for my family and to get to work.
In July 2023, I had to refill my anti freeze just one week after service. My dash lit up regarding the problem. Today, October 2023, same situation. Both situations required about 36 oz of antifreeze. In checking online I noticed this reference number indicating numerous problems like this in 2016-2018 Ford Edge. [XXX] In contacting Ron at Ford Motor Co ([XXX] ), he stated that Ford has no recall for this situation. He referred me to you. Any info on what I can do. Thanks [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
engine malfunction, loose engine power. It will fail to accelerate some times. It has been ispected by the ford dealership and the problem has been confirmed by them. Check engine on. Ford Motor company has a recall on the ford edge 2015-2018. Attached you will find the TSB # 19-2208 from ford in which describe the issues for the recall. Even though my car is showing the exact same malfunction, ford is telling me that my specific vin # is not on the recall and that I need to replace the engine for $ 6,000.00. What I do not understand is how if the vehicle has the same malfunction as the recall and it has been confirmed by Ford that its the same safety issue my vehicle will not be included in the recall. I'm writing NHTS as recomended by ford to see if someone can help me with this...
