Symptoms: Coolent level would go low; White smoke from exhaust; Vehicle would run rough; Coolent was in cylinder; and Check engine light would indicate. I took vehicle to my local Ford dealer. I was told this is a known issue with my vehicle and that the engine needed replaced. See previous Complaint # 11558954
coolant is leaking into the cylinders and causing misfires and shuttering of the car, the engine temperature spikes and warnings go off. this is happening in my 2.0L engine. this is the same problem as the 1.5L engine problem that Ford has recalled, but Ford is refusing to recall the 2.0L engine with the same issue. Ford has required me to replace the engine at my expense and now a few months later it is exhibiting the same problem and it is back at the Ford dealer and there is no promise date for putting in engine #3. I am left still paying on the loan for the car and I have no car and don't know when I will get it back. Ford is not offering a loaner/rental vehicle while they are holding my vehicle for repairs. Ford said they would not provide a good trade-in value because of...
- A certified Ford technician informed me there is a crack in the engine cylinder block, and coolant is leaking through to the pistons. One or more pistons is full of coolant and shakes the car when starting up, and has caused downstream issues with exhaust, catalytic converters, spark plugs, and O2 sensors. This resulted in the engine running too hot and welding the spark plugs to the engine. The dealer quoted me $8,400 just to replace the engine and said other components may be damaged and additional costs would likely be incurred. The vehicle along with all affected components is available for inspection upon request. - This issue put myself and another at risk while on the highway, I was forced to pull to the side of the road abruptly in fear of continued driving making the issue worse. - This issue has indeed been confirmed by a Ford...
Check engine light went on. Code was P0302/07E8 pd - Cylinder 2 misfire. After changing spark plugs - multiple times - and changing out the ignition coil, mechanic said he'd have to replace the entire engine. Took to Ford Dealer who confirmed concerns, performed test and found coolant in cylinder 2. Said that engine needed to be replaced. A mechanic said if engine wasn't replaced it could eventually cause overheating, engine fires and catastrophic failures. My car only had 56,244 miles on it when I had to replace the engine at dealer, at a cost to me of $8000. (Warranty expired at 5 years, 50,000 miles. Ford has recalled other models with this same problem. This model and year should be included in the recall.
My car was leaking coolant into the engine not only causing the engine to fail and need replacing, but the engine overheated, causing me to have to pull over on the side of the road. It happened a few time before the issue could be found. The dealer finally found the cause of the overheating was due to coolant intruding into the engine causing cylinders to misfire.
Took my car in to get repaired as the heater was not working. Turns out that I am required to have a full engine replacement after ONLY 58,000 miles due to coolant intrusion. This is absolutely unacceptable. The risk of coolant leaking into an engine is complete engine failure which can result in engine fires. This was confirmed by the dealer service center. There was a check engine light on, but then it turned off after a week.
Recently, I had to replace the engine on my 2018 Ford Edge with only 73k miles on it. I spoke to an agent on July 10th with Case #: [XXX]. The total engine replacement cost was $7,700. Ford only covered $3,000, leaving me with the remaining balance of $4,700. I first noticed my check engine light was on in July, so I took it to the dealership (Tony Betten Ford, Grand Rapids, MI) to find out the engine block was cracked and needed to be replaced. The powertrain warranty only covers 5 years or 60k miles, and my vehicle is 6 years old with just over 73k miles, so it did not qualify. I should not have to replace an entire engine at this mileage, especially since other automakers' warranties are upwards of 100k miles. I've taken good care of this vehicle and bought it brand new (in 2018) and...
Misfire in the engine I took it into Ford did their inspection and said that it is due to coolant intrusion into the cylinders. There are recalls for this vehicle for this problem but this vehicle specific VIN numbers are not included in this recall. Engine started to fail while driving causing multiple cylinder misfires
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at unknown speeds, the engine warning light illuminated. The driver checked the oil and noticed a milky substance in the oil. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the head gasket was blown. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed it using a microscopic camera and determined that there was a notch in the base of the engine that caused the failure. The mechanic recommended that the engine be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted, and informed the contact that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
MIL light and codes indicate coolant leaking into cylinders causing engine to fail. Manufacturer want to replace engine [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle started giving red overheating signals to the dash. I put in coolant. A week later it happened again and the car would only go 5 MPH. I called a mechanic and was told that this EcoBoost 2.0L was defective and that is was very common for the head gaskets to fail and poor coolant into the block. I had the vehicle towed to this mechanic and he confirmed the engine needed to be replaced. He quoted repairs at $8,000. I called FORD Motor Co direct and they told me in order to get help with repairs I had to take it to a FORD Dealer and get it evaluated. I had it towed once again to the local Dealership. They evaluated the vehicle and stated that the engine and turbo were both defective and it would be $9,000 to repair. They told me that this vehicle would definitely...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while parked, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine block and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin 19-2346 as a probable cause for failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,493.
Engine failure due to coolant leaking into engine block. This is a problem known by Ford that causes catastrophic engine failure in vehicles equipped with 2.0 Ecoboost engines (technical service bulletin 22-2229). Cost of repair greater than $8000
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would shake and fail to turn over before starting. The check engine warning light would occasionally illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine block. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with an error code: P0302 (cylinder #2 misfire) engine coolant leak and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was left at the local dealer for further repairs and was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact's cousin owns a 2018 Ford Edge. While the contact's cousin was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test determined that there was coolant intrusion into engine cylinder #4, which caused the engine long block to crack. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls or warranty on the vehicle for the repair. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 96,418.
The check engine light came on for the first time two days ago, 10-October-2024 at the same time that the engine started roughly. I brought the vehicle into a Ford dealership for service. The diagnosis is that coolant has leaked into the cylinders which led to the check engine light being on. The issue could lead to corrosion, misfires, catastrophic failure and fires. The problem is confirmed by a Ford dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. Just the Ford dealership's service department technician and service advisor. The corrective action is engine replacement at $8200. I'm the only owner of the vehicle which was purchased in 2018 and has approximately 67,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The car was taken in multiple times for rough idol and rough start, taken in multiple times for these two issues and nothing was said about the KNOWN coolant intrusion issue. Car overheated multiple times with no warning and then would stop running. The 2021 edge with the same engine has been recalled but I am just lucky it didn’t catch on fire! The car is now dead being stored in my garage and ford has left me without a vehicle.
The contact's mother owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while her mother was driving 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not able to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant intrusion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,107.
Coolant leak into cylinder causing engine to misfire, caused by warped cylinder head. Chapman Ford and CarShop have inspected and confirmed this issue and have indicated it is a common, recurring issue with Ford engines. Ford issued a service bulletin about this specific problem in 2019. In August 2019, the engine light went on, “misfire in cylinder #2”.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge that radiator fluid has leaked into the cylinder causing the vehicle to malfunction. Ford knows about this problem and refuses to do a recall. Also, I have a seatbelt that hasn’t worked in years and needs replacement. I contacted Ford years ago and have been told repeatedly that it’s on back order.
According to Ford's TSB 22-2229, the engine can overheat and eventually catch fire. The only repair is a new engine.
I started seeing a Check Engine light (CEL) on the dash of my 2018 Ford Edge Titanium (approx. 95k miles) and also noticed that the car was misfiring during acceleration. I took the car to a mechanic who found error code P0303. The mechanic subsequently found a cracked spark plug in the 3rd cylinder and I directed them to replace all 4 spark plugs. CEL came back within a week (verified same code) and so I replaced all 4 firing coils but the CEL still came back (this time flashing). After taking the car into a local Ford Dealer for service, I was informed by dealer that the car fell under TSB 11-2229 (leaking coolant into cylinders) and that the only recourse was to replace the engine block. The leaking coolant could have caused the car to seize up while in operation (I believe this is why the CEL was...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into an engine cylinder, resulting in engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Eco boost engine causes coolant to leak into cylinders causing significant damage and engine failure. Check engine light was on and vehicle is a 2018 with only 28,000 miles. Vehicle is at Ford dealer now so this has been confirmed as they want me to pay $9200 for the repair. Research shows numerous TSB’s and consumer complaints as well as a class action law suit regarding this issue.
The engine overheated and shut down on the freeway. Car was taken to dealer and was diagnosed with coolant leaking into the block. Recommended repair complete motor replacement. Upon research this is a problem with all cars having this particular motor design. I feel this is a safety defect that could result in a car fire while traveling and should be repaired by the manufacturer.
Coolant leaked into my combustion chambers and turbo destroying my engine and causing it to overheat. I was told this is a known issue with the ecoboost motor.
Engine light came on. Dealership says that I need a whole new transmission. Car is not slipping and seems to be driving fine. The car has less that 94,000 miles.
My 2018 Ford Edge is equiped with Ecoboost engine and as a result all these problems are occurring: Ford failed to disclose that these vehicles have a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure; and failed to disclose these defects create a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. Ford dealers have stated that I need a new engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the check engine warning light illuminated with an engine misfire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into cylinder #2 and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
Check engine light on 7/11- Code diagnosed as engine cylinder misfire. Warning indicator 9/9- High coolant temperature. Inspection- low coolant level- added coolant. Possibility of engine overheating and catching fire. Few hours later 9/9- low coolant level again with no visible leaks and white smoke emitting from exhaust- brought vehicle to service station- diagnosed with faulty head gasket leaking coolant into cylinder. Ford service bulletin shows known problem with engine block design and recommendation to replace. Brought vehicle to Ford dealer for their diagnostics.
2018 FORD EDGE LEAKING COOLANT INTO CYLINDERS 2 AND 3. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED, FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME AND WILL NOT FIX EVEN THOUGH ITS PROVEN THEIR DESIGN WAS FAULTY, VERY FRUSTRATING
I had a engine failure on the highway causing me to holt to a stop! Lucky it was not super busy and was able to get pulled over safely without getting hit or hitting someone.Turns out I have coolant leaking into my cylinder 3 causing it to fail. Ford tech said it wasn't anything I did wrong most of these motors are going out! If this is that big of a problem why is ford not taking it apon themselves to recall this. From what I am hearing this problem is happening to alot of people. They are making me pay out of pocket for the repairs which just seems crazy because it was nothing I did wrong.
We had a po301 and a p316 changed plugs and coils and then the codes came back. The ford dealer said we need to replace the engine due to coolant in the #1 cylinder. After research there is a known problem with the engine design.
2018 Ford Escape Titanium with Ecoboost. Zero problems until 66,000 miles when the coolant started leaking into the spark plugs and cylinder 2 started misfiring. I was told I would need to replace the engine at $8,000 cost. Steve's Car Care had an email about this issue. Apparently, Ford knows about it. This is an issue that should definitely be a recall fix by Ford.
I have approximately 53000 miles on my vehicle. The Engine light turned on end of Aug. So I took it to a service center. They said the message code was P306 & P0316. They inspected and said the cylinder is misfiring, coolant has gotten into the cylinder, and the gasket is mush. The engine is rough running and told me to take it to Ford, I will need a new engine. In searching this problem I found a TSB 22-2229 & an NHSTA 19-2208, 19-2172. Ford can't get me in until end of September to verify. I've found several references to this problem causing an engine fire, I also found a class action suit recently filed in California for this problem. Ford has not issued a recall for this problem and I don't understand. They redesigned the engine in 2021 as they knew it was a faulty design. I didn't...
Earlier this year, I had a crack form in my engine block that resulted in coolant intrusion in the engine. This was a safety risk as it resulted in a complete failure of my engine, loss of all coolant and was a fire risk. Ford has had significant issues with this in multiple models and years, yet the 2018 Ford Edge continues to be excluded from these recalls. This issue did result in a recall in Canada and is pending a class action lawsuit on the 2018 Ford Edge. The lawsuit, entitled [XXX], et al. v. Ford Motor Company, is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, Case No. [XXX] . I required 2 repairs to remedy this known safety issue that the NHTSA has yet to acknowledge or require Ford to address. All of this with 38,000 miles on the vehicle. I...
I first noticed the sound of water running in the dash each time I started the car. At that time I don’t recall an engine light on. It would sound like bubbles and water running for 10 seconds or so and then it would go away. That lasted a while before I was driving home from work and on two consecutive mornings my car lost acceleration power. This is dangerous in that I have to cross traffic on a busy road and had I tried to go quickly between cars I definitely couldn’t have moved to get out of the way. Each time this happened I pulled over and restarted the car and was able to get home. While waiting for my appointment with ford my car overheated and I got an engine overheat prompt. This was in the middle of summer and I had my two kids in the...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine had a misfire. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
My 2018 Ford Edge SEL AWD 2.0L Ecoboost just had a Long Block replacement due to a “Coolant Intrusion” into the engine. Got the vehicle back from the Ford dealership today. I had this car factory-built for myself in 2018, and I only have 28,000 miles on it! And GET THIS... the super-duper six-year extended Warranty I paid over $5,000 for when I bought the Edge expired just 5 WEEKS BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. Talk about unfortunate timing! I have been reading on the internet about many, many people who are having the same problem with Ecoboost engines, due to a manufacturing defect that Ford has admitted to for certain makes/models/years with Ecoboost engines… and that the vehicles have caught on fire in some instances. Mind you, I have only taken my Edge to Ford dealerships. Like clockwork, I am VERY proactive about my car check-ups... and then some....
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine overheated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle but the failure persisted. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the coolant level was low. The contact stated that he replaced the spark plugs and and ignition coil; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder #3, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
2018 Ford Edge Titanium--Engine Light (CEL)light up, took to mechanic--Ignition coil Cylind 01 replaced and spark plug--Continue to come on--Firestone complete Auto Care 08/11/2023, they keep resetting. Now 2024 Again same issue, taking car to Ford dealer 08/30/2024--This is a know issue with the Ecoboost 2.0 engine. I almost was killed when car was almost stalling out and engine jumping and vehicle was thrashing in traffic on 08/23/2024. I have a Fidelity Warranty -Medallion Care Protection purchased when bought this car, it's good for another year. My car needs a new engine from Ford, Vin number not on recall list, but this a know problem with Ford Edges from 2015-2019, then Ford changed design. Need help getting a new engine...
Defective Engine: Liquid leaking on to engine block causing engine to misfire. This is a known issue with ford for the 2018 ford edge.
Unknown. Seems like coolant is making it's way into the cylinders and disrupting combustion. A lot of sweet-smelling white smoke from exhaust when first starting. Engine code pointing to cylinder 1 misfire even though plugs and coils have been replaced. Shakes a bit when starting and overall lower performance.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and was running rough. The contact stated that the infotainment system was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
My vehicle experienced what many of the Ford vehicles have had occur in this year range regarding the EcoBoost engine. My 2018 Ford Edge, maintained by the dealership since purchase, equipped with the EcoBoost 2.0 engine had coolant leak into the number one cylinder. Once this happens, there is no repair besides to replace the engine. Ford knows there an issue, even the service person told me this happens a lot with this model, but there is no recall at this time. They want $7,800 to change the engine block. Ford changed the design by scoring channels between the cylinders in an ill conceived attempt to increase cooling. This bad design allows coolant to degrade head gasket leading to coolant intrusion into cylinders. Inevitably, this leads to engine failure. Apparently, Ford redesigned the Ecoboost 2.0 engine around 2020 to eliminate this issue. Ford has not recalled these engines and apparently...
NHTSA needs to recall the engines on these vehicle check engine light came on had checked was told spark plug #4 misfire vehicle is overheating and taking all coolant, white smoke coming out the exhuast, when I brake my emergency brakes are being applied??? I see that there are other people who are having same issues NHTSA and FORD need to RECALL THE ENGINES!! Vehicle has 90,0000 miles on it and failed wont turn over replace the engines on these vehicles you guys are so wrong for not considering this a recall after reading other peoples concerns my 2018 ford edge is doing the same thing and still owe on this piece of crap!!!!
My check engine light came on, by the time they could get the car into the shop it would overheat and stall. It was found that the engine is leaking coolant into the wrong parts causing a misfire, the car is now non operable. It is well documented in TSB 19-2346, confirmed by dealership the engine needs to be replaced. My safety has been in great risk as it could have stalled at any time in any location while I was traveling with my kids. Ford is negligent in fixing a KNOWN issue
Check engine light appeared and the car ran rough. I took the car to an automotive repair shop. Spark plugs are misfiring into the cylinder causing coolant to leak into the engine. Then causing the engine block to crack. 2018 ford edge with only 38000 miles. The engine could start on fire and cause catastrophic failure. The car is not drivable and the mechanic cannot repair it without changing the whole engine out.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission was slipping with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with coolant intrusion into the cylinder and retrieved DTC code: P0301 (Engine Misfire). The contact stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,500.
