Owner of a 2018 Ford Edge SEL 2.0 L Eco Boost, approx. 40,000 miles. Started experiencing a dip in RMP’s while idling. Check engine light came on. Vehicle was registering a “misfire”. Uncertain if it was spark plugs, coil pack and/or head gasket the computer was reset and vehicle was given back. Engine light appears AGAIN. This time, local repair shop opened the cylinders and discovered a small amount of coolant and/or oil. Cylinders were cleaned and vehicle was given back. AGAIN, engine light appeared 3rd time and made an appointment with Scarsdale Ford Service. At FORD Service, spoke to “Ralph.” Initially, was informed it might just need sparks plugs. (KNOWING THERE’s A FLAWED ENGINE DESIGN THAT ALLOWS COOLANT TO ENTER THE ENGINE BLOCK ERODING EVERYTHING. So much so, that FORD has issued a “technical service bulletin” BUT refuses to recall the engine). Later, was told the engine needs to...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle shuddered. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was determined that there was coolant intrusion into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that the failure began about a year ago; however, the failure had become persistent. The vehicle was scheduled to be towed to the dealer within the next few days. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.
they sold me a new car 2018 with a known engine defect and with only 40,000 miles it needs a new engine due to a engine defect where coolant enters the engine cylinders
There was a cylinder wall breach causing coolant intrusion in to the engine. It’s issue is extremely common with the 2.0 ecoboost engines. My service engine light came on and I checked all fluids coolant was low and it was showing a misfire in cylinder #3. Replaced the park plug and added coolant and service engine light when off so I kept driving it. A couple days later I was driving and my car started over heating on a highway causing significant loss of power having to pull over to the side of the road to avoid an accident with my grand children in the car [XXX] and a [XXX] . Check engine light is on again check the codes and now misfire in cylinder 4 and crank shaft position is off. I took it to a ford dealership and the only fix is to replace the engine at 90,000...
Coolant intrusion into #2 cylinder of 2.0 eco-boost engine Confirmed by mechanic at Ford dealership are they diagnosis with pressure test and bore scope. i’ve read online of the inquiries for this and other Ford dungeons the 2018 Ford edge which led to recalls for the Ford fusion and escape, but did not include the Ford edge. I cannot understand why the Ford edge was not included in the recall since it has the same problems and same engine, Ford supervisor told me it may be because there was not enough complaints so I’m registering my complaint today. I have been in contact with Ford customer service. Please help me understand this situation. Is it possible there will be a recall on this engine sometime in the future?
CEL 1st appeared 8 days after car purchase, bought 5/9/24, CEL on 5/17. Avail 4 inspection. At risk possible fire hazard. 2 diagnostics done. Confirmed by 2 Ford dealers and auto store. Wouldnt pass emmissions. Coils and plug replaced CEL goes off. Drive approx 400 miles great. CEL and now coolant light on. Another diagnostic done. Coolant intrusion, research states possible fire hazard, needs engine replaced.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started and driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, on several occasions the contact observed a burning odor inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Coolant is leaking into the cylinder causing engine failure
Coolant leaking into engine cylinders. Ford edge running a little rough with white exhaust smoke. MIL did not appear illuminated for some time after the appearance of white exhaust smoke.
Warning light appeared on dashboard. Vehicle eventually had a very difficult time moving forward and would not go more than 5 mph uphill. Took vehicle to Ford dealer service center for diagnosis. The report from dealer states, "Verified concern, scanned for fault codes and found codes P01229, P0301 SN P00012. Pressure tested coolant system and found coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The technician advised to correct condition the long block would need to be replaced." (Attaching a copy of the report). Subsequent internet searches demonstrate that this is a known problem with Ford engines.
2018 Ford Edge - 53000 miles. Missfire for #2, constantly for almost a year. Had coils and spark plugs replaced numerous times but keeps happening. Ford Service stated that coolant is leaking causing this and it is a manufacturer defect. Engine needs to be replaced, estimated cost $7500.
Engine failed because of coolant in cylinders. Engine must now be replaced. This is a known issue with 2018 Ford Edge with 2.0 eco boost engines.
Coolant leaked into the engine resulting in a total engine failure. Ford refused to cover the cost. The problem was caused by manufacturing defects. Ford has refused to take responsibility.
100,000 Miles ad 2 months out of warranty -- dealer indicated the check engine light code of P0302 is a collant intrusion and the entire engine needs to be replaced for $10,454. This appears to be a reoccuring problem with Ford Edge Ecoboost.
The engine began having a misfire around 58k miles and low coolant levels. No coolant drips or leaks were detected on the exterior. After some research I found that the 2.0 Ecoboost used in these vehicles is prone to coolant intrusion due to a defective engine block. After a trip the car unexpectedly would not start, it would crank over but it would not start. After sending it to my dealer they confirmed coolant intrusion and explained the car needed a new engine. The car was bought certified used, every service was done on time at a Ford dealer. There was no way to avoid the defective engine in this car, no amount of preventative maintenance would stop this from happening. Ford has a bulletin out on these engines, so they know there's an issue. There's no reason for a low mileage well cared for vehicle to need a replacement...
While driving vehicle on [XXX] Ocala, FL engine spontaneously overheated, which caused an immediate loss of engine power and a temporary loss of directional control as the power steering no longer functioned. I had the vehicle first towed to my house, and then had it towed to Gary Yeomans Ford Ocala. Their diagnosis led them to insist that coolant is intruding into the cylinder through the block itself, and the recommended course of action (under a very well known TSB) is to replace the long-block assembly. Ford is refusing to acknowledge this is a serious manufacturing defect that impacts customer safety, exposing the driver and the driving public to the possibility of an engine fire due to overheating, an accident due to inability to maintain directional control of the vehicle in an overheat scenario, and myriad other potential life-safety issues. Ford is making zero effort to assist their customers -...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion the "Engine Overheating" message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and turned off for several minutes. The contact stated that coolant was added to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
Faulty engine design (thin wall between coolant chamber and cylinders) allows for coolant to enter the cylinders. This leads to an overheating engine (that can catch fire) and ultimately creates a blown head gasket. This is a common issue in the Ford EcoBoost engines. There is a TSB on the 1.5 liter engines, but not the 2.0 on this model. There is currently a large lawsuit happening for this reason. Vehicles with under 60k miles are getting blown engines for this problem, most people still owe several thousand dollars on their vehicle when this happens.
Overheating: antifreeze leaked into engine caused a fire risk. Engine had to be replaced at a cost of over $7,300.
Brought vehicle to dealership for service on a shifter boot recall. The check engine light first came on when we gave the vehicle to the Dealership, and they said there was a misfire on Cylinder #2. Due to this, the entire engine was replaced with 85,000 miles as per a Technical Service Bulletin. This damage was due to a defective design and luckily, we did work with Ford corporate to get the price down since the vehicle was out of warranty. Never had any signs of an issue until one day in April 2024 when the engine started running rough when started up in the driveway. It was rocking the vehicle side to side. Just received the vehicle back this week with a new engine. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.
Coolant problem I was told blown head gasket and had to replace entire motor for 9,000
My check engine light came on but it was driving fine and we checked all of the fluids and everything was okay and the light went off and then two days later I had a alert pop up while driving that my engine was hot and overheating pull over to find that I have no coolant randomly and we don’t know where it’s going. Had it looked at and they couldn’t figure out where it was going either. Two weeks pass and I’m driving on the highway and my car starts shaking and the check engine light is flashing while white smoke is blowing out from exhaust and from under my hood and had to call 911 because I thought my car had caught fire. Pulled over to find all of my oil all under my car and all on the ground. Had the car towed back home so I...
2018 Ford Edge 2.0l ecoboost engine exhibits a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke is white and/or a runs rough condition with illuminated malfunction code P300 Cylinder 3 misfiring. Level gets so low that the engine will overheat, and we shut the car down. After cooling we fill the over fill reservoir back up. This lasts for 1.5 to 2 weeks. No visible leaks anywhere.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, there was a misfire and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was first diagnosed that a tune-up was needed then the vehicle was diagnosed as a failure with oil leaking into the head gasket, and the engine needed to be repaired. The final diagnostic test determined that the engine block was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Coolant intrusion into cylinder number 2. Engine runs really rough and we cannot drive it until we get the engine replaced. A KNOWN issue that ford isn't covering even though they released a TSB stating it is a manufacturer defect because they made the cylinder walls too thin between cylindersnumber 2 and 3. Myself and who knows how many others are out $5000 to $9000 for repairs on vehicles we still owe a lot of money on. Some of these failures have lead to engine fires. Now I have a $40k car in my garage I can't drive for fear of fire and have to spend a fortune to fix. Please make ford own up to this and fix our vehicles!
Recently, I purchased a 2018 Ford Edge from an outside dealership. I have been dealing with a misfire since November of 2023. A few days after I got the car the engine light came on, the dealership I bought it from supposedly "fixed" the car three times. First time was a bad coil in cylinder 1 thought it was fixed a few days later engine light comes back on I go to O'reilly's to get a free diagnostic check and it says misfire cylinder 1 so i take it back to them they say someone over lubed some parts putting it back in, they fix it. Now after this second time around is when I start noticing my coolent is disappearing and then a few days go by engine light comes back on and now im starting to feel thw miafire slightly so i let them know thinking it could...
Coolant leaking possibly into the cylinder 1 causing the engine to violently rough idle while in drive m
My check engine light came on and I got my car scanned & it said it was my ignition coils & my spark plugs which I got fixed check engine came on again and it looks like my coolant was low so I filled it up & it came on again now I have smoke coming out the back of my car so it seems to be leaking. I’ve read online about the coolant issues. My car only has 60,000 miles.
Check engine light came on and took to dealership. Diagnostic revealed that coolant was leaking onto the engine. Car is 6 years old and was told this was a known problem with Ford, who have since corrected it but is not offering anything for known problem in engine in older models.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact arrived at his destination and checked the engine and noticed that the coolant level was low. The contact refilled the coolant reservoir and upon starting the vehicle noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle had a misfire and determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred, and the check engine warning light illuminated, and a large amount of white smoke was coming from the exhaust pipes when the vehicle was started. The contact researched online and related the failure to coolant intrusion into the cylinder block. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or to an...
Coolant is being used up but not leaking anywhere on the ground. It is mis-firing. It has run out of coolant - with NO leak found anywhere. Check engine light comes on and goes off. Looks like the Ford Fusion Recall Issue but there is no recall on my VIN. I cannot afford to repair this defect. Can you do anything to assist my 2018 Ford Edge with its internal coolant leak?
I have a 2018 Ford Edge SEL with 36,460 miles on it. Problem began a few months ago on startup, engine would shudder for a few seconds then clear up, no check engine light came on. A few weeks later I experienced the same issue but the engine light came on! The repair shop changed the ignition coil, the spark plugs and the #2 cylinder injector! Vehicle ran well for a few weeks. While driving on [XXX] in Virginia the engine misfired and the check engine light came on, I found a Ford Dealership nearby and had them do a diagnostic check on the engine! I was informed by the service manager that the problem was “coolant intrusion” in the #2 cylinder! He provided me with the technical service bulletin #22-2229 which clearly states that to correct the problem “the long block engine assembly” must be replaced! Price quoted for...
Coolant is leaking into cylinder 1 causing the engine to fail and needing to be replaced
Engine light came on. Running rough. Low engine coolant. Dealer said code was a misfire in Cylinder #2 and coolant was leaking into cylinder #2. Said engine needs to be replaced for $8300.
I own a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium with a 4 cylinder 2.0 Liter engine. After experiencing check engine light my local dealer stated I need a new engine because of a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure. The car does not run now and is parked. I HAVE READ SAFETY ISSUE REPORTS FROM MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM THAT HAS LEAD TO THE ENGINE MISFIRING BADLY CAUSING LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ALSO SOME CASES OF VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE.
I have a 2018 Ford edge SEL with the 2.0 ecoboost engine in it that I just bought June 3rd, 2023. The engine light came on a couple weeks ago, so I took it to the dealership that I bought it from and found out the engine is bad because of coolant leaking into one of the cylinders. Upon further research I found that this is due to a design flaw in the engine by Ford but Ford has not recalled this engine. However Ford has recalled the 1.0 engines along with a couple others. I feel Ford should also recall the 2.0 ecoboost engine because this has been an ongoing issue for many people and the customers shouldn't have to pay for a new engine when it is a defective design that Ford even knows about but hasn't done anything
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was shaking. An unknown message was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact checked the coolant level and discovered that it was empty. The contact added coolant to the coolant reservoir; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into cylinder #4, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 42,800.
I had my car serviced. I drove less than a mile and noticed the check engine light was on. I called the dealer to see if they could check it as I had to drive 120 miles round trip for a doctor’s appointment that day. I was told it indicated a misfire but not to be concerned; I was told it was ok to drive. They cleared the error message and told me I was good to go. The check engine light came on sporadically for a week then stayed on permanently. I called on a Friday and got it in for diagnostics the following Monday (2 weeks from servicing date.) I was told after diagnostics that the coolant was low and they needed 2 hours to remove a spark plug and check cylinder 3. I was advised that they had seen this issue previously on other Ford vehicles and...
2018 Ford Edge, well maintained, 67k miles. Coolant is leaking into Cylinder 4 through is microhole that can cause the engine to explore. The dealership quoted me nearly $11,000 to fix. The car according to Kelley Blue Book is worth that much. This care should be recalled IMMEDIATELY. There is a class action lawsuit against for for this very problem. It is not safe and ford is totally scamming customers out of money based on a manufacturing defect.
Coolant system started to leak into the cylinders, causing both low-coolant and corrosion of the spark plugs. We contacted a Ford repair center and they said the only remedy is to replace the entire engine. Apparently this is a design flaw. The engine light started go go on in December 2024 and the problem has only gotten worse and worse since then.
Car began bucking at first and running rough about 82000 miles on it I changed plugs and shortly after it started again. It began to over heat when I drove from Maine to KY. I found it was low on Coolant. I had to fill it again a month or so later. Mechanic did not find any coolant leaks. I brought it to ford and they told me coolant was getting into the cylinders and I need an engine replacement. I am [XXX] drive like an old man and no reason engine should fail the way I drive I understand Ford recalled the 1.5 echo boost but not the 2.0 and they were made with the same defect. They are aware of this and redesigned the engine. It cost me 6.000 dollars to fix at a time I am nearing retirement. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact had the vehicle jumpstarted; however, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was leaking into the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Coolant Leaking Into Cylinders. Ford had already noticed this issue that coolant intrusion into the cylinder with tons of 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine. They have never recall, replace, or even try to fix this issue. It very easily causes engine overheated which is a significant risk. Please consider to have them do a nationally recall and help people on the way to be safe! Thank you
Engine failed due to coolant intrusion on cylinder two! Been experiencing coolant loss with no evidence of where it was going. Have had multiple pressure tests performed with no results of a leak. Started experiencing a spurts of misfire when accelerating up hill or on a high at speeds of 60-75MPH, inconsistently. Happened again on 05/07/2024, called my local dealership and was advised to bring it in to have a tech take a drive. On that drive he was able to replicate misfire to the point a check engine light appeared while my edge was experiencing misfire. When misfire stopped engine light shut off. Once we were back the tech performed diagnostic measures and found coolant spewing into the engine. Resulting in the need of a new engine.
My car is only 6 years old. I have maintained my car for the past 5 years of ownership. My car now needs a complete engine replacement due to coolant leaking into the cylinders. This was looked at by my local Ford dealership. After reading through other reviews it appears that other owners have experienced the exact same issue. I also was told my the dealership that Ford Escapes experienced the exact same issue and there was a recall. My car shakes and rattles and is unsafe to drive. I was told my the dealership that I could still drive it, but it is unknown when the engine will completely fail. I am a mom of two children and I cannot drive a car that could just randomly fail! My check engine line appeared about 2 weeks ago before I could get an appointment to be seen.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the contact became aware of an abnormally strong gasoline odor. Additionally, there was white smoke coming from the tailpipe. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, the contact became aware that the engine was blown. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with low compression coming from the engine and a failure of the engine cylinders. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2133 (Coolant in Cylinders, White Exhaust Smoke, And/or Illuminated MIL); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
while driving, engine went to full hot and shut down some cylinders, decreasing power, in traffic. causing the car to slow down and others had to avoid me. mechanic found the block is cracked, but this VIN # was not included in the recall. cost is $8000.00 to replace engine at less than 70,000 miles. Ford is no help. No warning lamps, until the event, then check engine light and temp gauge going full hot.
I had my 2018 Ford Edge in Gerald Jones Ford Lincoln dealership services department at Augusta, GA on [XXX] (soonest appointment schedule available) due to check engine light turning on that I detected on [XXX] According to their diagnosis, my vehicle is now in need of total engine rebuild/replace. On [XXX], 12 days prior to the check engine light turning on, my vehicle was at the dealership for its regular maintenance (oil change, tire pressure, top off fluid, etc.) that also included a multi-point inspection. There were no engine issues detected on the vehicle 12 days prior. All of a sudden, 12 days later, the vehicle's engine light turned on and now in need of serious repair. This vehicle has less than 40k mileage. I did some research and based on submitted complaints online from other vehicle owners, I became aware that there are known issues to the engine design...
