I have a 2018 Ford Edge SEL with a 2.0 L engine and 63,550 miles. The EcoBoost engine has coolant intrusion into the cylinders due to a design flaw in the engine where the head gasket fails. Ford has a TSB bulletin (TSB 19-2346) they sent out that requires a new engine replacement for this issue. This issue has been present in 2015-2018 Ford edge and occurs usually when the warranty expires. This relates to safety in that the engine can fail or catch fire. I took it in to a Ford dealer and they said I would need an engine replacement costing $8,100. My car has not been inspected by the manufacturer but I called them and was told that they had no program available to help me. I did contact the dealer I purchased the use car from and they said they couldn't do anything to help me....

Eco boost engine is less than four years old and coolant leaked into engine. This should never happen on a four year old vehicle. Ford put out a “bulletin” on this, not a recall, but never informed me of it directly. When we contacted Ford told us we were out of luck. Cost me 7k to fix. Internet says this is happening way more often than it should be. My mechanic told me this should only happen to vehicles with hundreds of thousands of miles. He was as stunned as we were. This could have killed me. I’m fortunate that I decided to have it looked at. The cost was significant, but my life is worth more. A recall should be triggered. Ford knows it, lawyers know it, the Feds should know it too.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and made an abnormal sound then lost motive power. The temperature gauge indicated that the engine was HOT. The contact stated that there was white smoke coming from the tailpipe. The check engine and low coolant warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
#11546057 |
The check engine light came on. The warning was a cylinder 2 misfire. The fix is an engine replacement. I called Ford. They acknowledged a coolant leakage problem. They said there was no recall but would offer "assistance". I was told to limit driving until repair as the engine will stall at any time. This problem happened shy of 68,000 miles (shortly after warranty expiration).

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was idling rough. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder #2. The contact was informed that the engine needed replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

Month of August had my grandkids in the vehicle and my vehicle stalled out in the middle of traffic because it has a coolant leak. I only have a little over 70,000 miles on my 2018 Ford Edge. It is an internal coolant leak. Because it's not leaking on the ground. My understanding you are having a lot of this problem. I also understand that this could catch the vehicle on fire. My son is an auto mechanic and he said y'all are having a lot of problems with this with these vehicles I have to use an old truck for transportation now I am having back problems and hip problems. Please help because I don't have this kind of money to put in a vehicle that has this problem this early in with this low mileage.
#11545059 |
My check engine light was on and my car would shake and vibrate upon staring the engine. I was running low on coolant when I shouldn’t be despite no signs of leaking on the ground. I took it to an authorized shop by Carfax, it’s Autotech in O Fallon, MO. They ran diagnostic tests and the codes were P0302 and P0316, which apparently are common issues with Ford Edges between 2015-2018. The shop owner said it’s normal for these cars even with low miles to end up needing a new engine bc of how Ford built them to where there are cylinder misfires causing coolant to leak into the engine causing engine failure. I asked why there were no recalls on this known issues and he assumed it must be bc no one died yet. I have since been reading thread after thread online of customers having this same issue...

My vehicle, along with many other Ford Edge owners, has coolant intruding into the #2 engine cylinder, which causes engine misfires, and has caused others engines to crack and have a engine fire. Ford is aware that the head was ground incorrectly during manufacturing, which allows the head gasket to fail. Ford has issued tech service bulletin 19-2346 There is a recall in Canada, we need one in the US. This issue typically takes time and mileage, and in my case and others the manufacturers engine warranty has expired. The fix for my 2.0L engine is a total replacement. Thanks for your time.

The motor is shot. A known problem from Ford is not being addressed. Coolant leaking into the cylinder which can cause car to catch on fire. I bought a platinum extended warranty from where I bought the car but they will not fix because of a TSB and Ford won't fix because problem is not recalled. I lost over $18,000 on this vehicle and had to buy another car.

Engine coolant is leaking. Some times white smoke comes out of exhaust. Causes car to rattle and shake. Spent over $600 to get diagnosed and saying new engine needed. Check engine light came on saying it was bad coil. Replaced coil still didn't work found out coolant is leaking into started coil 2 and spark plug.
#11543138 |
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the contact felt the vehicle was driving rough and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed and stated that the #2 ignition coil was misfiring. The contact stated that coil #2 and the spark plug were replaced. On another occasion while at a complete stop the vehicle started over heating and the temperature gauge was rising. The contact was able to drive to the residence and added coolant, but the failure continued. The dealer was contacted and stated that coolant was leaking into the engine, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was aware of the failure but had not diagnosed the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was no recall for the failure on the year, make, and model of...

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined there was coolant intrusion into the engine, causing engine damage. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 67,000.
#11542065 |
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and was jerking with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with a cylinder #2 misfire. The contact attempted to add coolant however, the coolant started leaking from an unknown location. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 63,116.

My name is [XXX] my husband and I have been working with Chapman Ford on a situation with my 2018 Ford Edge. Currently the Edge needs an Engine replacement according to TSB #'s 19-2208,19-2346,22-2133 and 22-2229. This stems from a design flaw issue starting with the 2015 Edge according to the TSB's. The cost to replace the engine is $7030.95, Chapman Ford put in a GCCT Case and got approval for $2,812.38 of the total cost for a known design flaw that should probably have been a recall or at the very least extended the warranty to 150K like Ford has done on other engines with the same issue, but not my model. Ford is telling me I need to pay $4,200 out of pocket to replace the entire engine. I only have 70,000 miles on the vehicle. I feel like I'm getting the run around when it comes to...

Engine coolant leak 3 months after 5-year warranty expired. 53,000 miles on the car. Apparently this is a known issue with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. Ford has issues a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 22-2229 ) on this know manufacturing defect, but customer who is out of warranty is still with $7000-8,000 repair bill.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the vehicle was idling roughly and shaking. The contact stated that he checked the fluids in the engine compartment and became aware that the coolant reservoir was empty after being recently filled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant leaking into cylinder #2. The contact was informed that the engine needed replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
#11541282 |
The vehicle was bought in 2023 with 72,000 miles. Within one month, the engine light came on for misfire in cylinder 3. After replacing the spark plugs, with one day, the engine light came back on. It was later diagnosed by Ford dealer that there was coolant leaking into the cylinder. The dealer said it is a "known" problem per Ford for several years. A complete engine replacement was needed. The Ford dealership said they replace engines on Edges on a regular basis. This should be looked into as a recall.
#11540547 |
Purchased a 2018 ford edge new I’m early 2019. The car has 65k miles and needs a new engine due to coolant leak into cylinder 3. This should be a recall item and Ford refuses to stand by its product. An engine with miles this low should not need replacement.
#11540344 |
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light had illuminated approximately 6 months after purchasing the vehicle new. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced; however, the failure recurred approximately 5 years later. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the repair cost. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

Ford Edge using coolant, temperature light turning on. Scanner indicates misfiring on cylinder #3. TSB report shows ongoing issue with a cracked cylinder, #3, causing the misfiring and coolant use. Vehicle has only 77K miles on it and maintained by dealership. This is a on going issue that apparently can only be resolved by replacing the engine.
#11539738 |
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start up after several attempts, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the spark plugs and ignition coil packs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose motive power while driving at various speeds. Upon further investigation, the mechanic discovered that coolant had leaked into cylinder #3. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Coolant leaks into engine cylinders. Symptoms included rough starting, loss of power, white smoke from the exhaust and Check Engine Light. Engine is available for inspection. Safety is comprised as the engine will suddenly lose power while driving. Diagnosis was confirmed by independent service center using Ford TSB 19-2346. Remedy is a complete engine replacement (per TSB). Called Ford Customer Service and they will not replace the engine under the drivetrain warranty (5 years or 60,000 miles) as the vehicle has 85,000 miles. Ford stated I MUST take the vehicle to a Ford dealership for diagnosis at which time they MAY have a financial assistance program which would only pay a percentage of the repair. The percentage is unknown, availability of programs is unknown and they could give me no further information. An internet search will reveal hundreds of owners with the same issue, spanning the 2015 - 2018 Ford...

Bought used Feb. 2023. End of March cylinder 3 misfire code pops when the check engine light comes on. Replaced all spark plugs and 1 engine coil for cylinder 3. On off until Aug. 9th when the light came back on and I took to Ford Dealership. Paid for a diagnosis and the next day they called and said the coolant is leaking into the engine and this is a “known issue” and I will need a new engine. I have barely put 3,000 miles on top of the miles it came with. Should not have to pay for a new engine with a “known issue”!

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when starting the vehicle, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. While driving approximately 45-50 MPH, there was a rattling sound coming from the passenger’s side rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that while turning left, there was a clicking sound coming from the passenger’s side front of the vehicle nearby the wheel. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the liftgate remote button caused the flashers to illuminate and when the flasher button was pressed the liftgate with unintendedly open. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that coolant was leaking into the cylinder, and that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact was informed that the wiring to properly assign the liftgate and flashers to the correct button to activate...

Car just hit 100000 miles. Engine light came on . Took to Barnes Crossing Ford in New Albany. After inspection was in formed coolant was leaking into engine and block needed to be replaced. The car did not overheat but the coolant leaking into engine could have ignited a fire due to other chemicals present such as oil, and other fluids needed to operate motor. TSB was already issued regarding this defect as well as multiple complaints and a recall on escapes and fusions that ended in 2022. Because of lack of investigation and safe recall this problem continues to pose a danger to myself and others. Motor has to be replaced at the nominal fee of 6500.00 . The problem continues to exist.

Antifreeze coolant seeping into engine cylinders causing fumes and poor performance and sputtering.
#11536391 |
My Edge overheated on me and had it towed to Ford dealership where they diagnosed my car as having coolant leaking into my cylinders and ruined my engine. Ford is aware of this and does not care at all. I want to join the class action lawsuit over this issue. I’m stuck owing 23,000 on a car i can’t drive and engine replacement isn’t a smart idea since they won’t fix the coolant issue and it will just happen again.

Engine emission light came on. cylinder 2 misfire code. Engine ruinning rough when first started. Dealer found coolant low. Performed diagnostics - need new engine. coolant leaking into engine. Not part of an existing recall but known problem. In reading what could happen: my engine could over heat, seize and start on fire. I was fortunate that none of this occured putting myself or others at risk or leaving me stranded on the road. I am attaching the technical service bulletin. this recall needs to be expanded. Vehicle currently at the dealer. We are determining next steps. https://www.com/ford-edge-recalls/#:~:text=2016%2C%202017%20and%202018%20Ford,and%20a%20loss%20of%20power.

Check engine light came on, Cylinder 3 misfire, head gasket cracked and leaking coolant into cylinder, need to replace entire motor.
#11532481 |
Cylinder engine misfires due to a faulty manufactured head gasket. Ford motor co was apparently aware of the manufacturing flaw but has yet to issue a recall on certain Ford Edge models sold manufactured and sold between 2013 -2018. The solution to the problem requires a completely new engine with average cost ranging between $6,000 to $8,000 dollars. If these particular models are driven without the requisite repairs it can result in complete engine failure of fires. This presents a serious hazard to drivers and occupants of the vehicle as well as other motorists.

coolant leak into number 2 cylinder causing slow down with no acceleration.
#11530849 |
After a check engine light came on, vehicle was brought to local Ford dealership. After the problem was diagnosed it was determined that there was a defect in the engine that resulted in coolant leaking into the cylinders. There are currently 8 TSB's regarding this issue and a pending class action law suit. We are now currently responsible for replacing the entire engine at a cost of almost 9,0000.00

2018 Ford Edge with a little over 25000 miles and serviced at the dealership it was purchased from. The battery will drain to less than 5 volts overnight for no apparent reason. Unit is on its second battery and it test fine. The issue is not consistent, sometimes it will happen only after a couple of months, othertimes after a few days between occurances. Its appears when when the car if turned off, something in one of its many computers is not shutting down all the required systems allowing the battery to drain overnight. Short of installing a battery disconnect switch, I', running out of ideas. Neither my wife of I feel safe driving the car, since it may leave us stranded.

I am experiencing a coolant leak into the engine of my vehicle. I was told there was a recall for many 2015-2018 Ford Edge's but it seems mine is not one of them. This is exactly like the recall I see that is 20V469000. I am trying to find out how to get someone to look into my issue and see about getting me included in this recall or any others that are associated with coolant leaking into the engine.

I have a 2018 Ford Edge 2.0L Ecoboost with approximately 68,000 miles on it. While driving the vehicle on June 12, 2023, the check engine light began to come on and off intermittently. During this time, the vehicle began to heavily shake and began to involuntarily jerk as though it was having issues moving forward. I took the vehicle straight to a Firestone where they ran diagnostic tests for 2 days. They tried replacing spark plugs but said that is not the issue. They recommended taking the vehicle to a dealership. An appointment was made and the car dropped off at a Ford dealership on June 21,2023. After running more tests, the dealership is stating that there is a manufacturing defect with the engine block which has caused coolant leakage into the engine, damaging the engine so extensively that it needs to be replaced. I was quoted around $8,000 for...

Brought in for a check engine light on. They found that coolant was leaking into motor causing it to Misfire. Dealer said a new long block was the only fix. My car had 64k miles and it cost me $8438.58. The dealer stated that Ford won’t help with the cost because I haven’t bought enough Ford products (This is my 2nd) or had my vehicle serviced at a Ford dealer. The car is currently going back in the shop on Wednesday because the light went on again after a brand new motor was installed.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the transmission cable bushing, and the spark plugs were replaced, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that cylinder #3 was misfiring and that coolant had leaked into the engine and that the long blocked needed to replace, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 120,000.

My 2018 ford edge coolant has hairline cracks which caused coolant to leak into the engine. I was unaware of this until it was taken to a Ford service center when the check engine light came on. Ford knows about this and has a bulletin out for it. The engine is burning this coolant and it could cause the engine to overheat.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light would intermittently flash on the instrument panel. Over time, the vehicle began to shudder at start up with the temperature gauge warning symbol flashing on the instrument panel. The contact's father inspected the vehicle and discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the engine block had cracked, and the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN regarding the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

My car was mis-firing, AutoZone ran a diagnostic test and said it was the #2 cylinder. We replaced all of the spark plugs and cylinders and it was still mis-firing. O’Reilly’s ran a diagnostic test and said it was the #2 and #3 cylinders. I was then driving to the store and got a warning message that the car was overheating. I stopped and we looked and there was no coolant. We contacted a local mechanic who said he had seen this problem before in other Ford Edge’s that the coolant was leaking into the cylinders and when the car warmed up and burned off the coolant it ran like it was not mis-firing, and that is exactly what my Ford Edge was doing. We were told by the Ford dealership that we would need to replace the long block and Ford was not issuing a recall because this particular...

My 2.0L EcoBoost engine is having the coolant intrusion into the cylinder issue that Ford has acknowledge in a technical service bulletin, but is not doing anything about it. There is a design flaw with this engine and Ford has redesigned in in later years, but has not issued a recall. The coolant reservoir is getting low and there are no signs of leak under the vehicle as it is leaking into the cylinder. I was getting DTCs for cylinder 2 misfire and my car would shake on startup some times. I changed the spark plugs and ignition packs at 100k and noticed that the cylinder 2 spark plugged looked more brown/burnt (it was burning coolant in the cylinder) than he other 3. The coolant has been low (below the min mark) and I have topped it off 3 times already as the issue keeps reoccurring. Coolant in the cylinder...

Please Note: I filed a previous complaint (#11511950) on 03/15/2023. Please refer to Ford Technical Service Bulletin TSB 22-2229 issued in June 2022 regarding coolant intrusion into cylinder head on 2017 - 2020 Ford Ecoboost 2.0L engines. Due to a faulty design all of these engines are all destined for total failure. In their own technical service bulletin Ford describes the appropriate fix as total engine replacement. Because of what should surely be considered Ford's manufacturing defect, coolant inevitably intrudes into the cylinder head(s) mixing coolant with the fuel. Once this has begun it is only a matter of time before the engine fails. If such a total engine failure (hydrolock) occurrs at speed the results could be catastrophic, leading to deaths and injuries. Under these circumstances it is difficult to understand why there has not been a recal on these faulty engines. Further, Ford has already offered owners of...

Question 1 answer: Last month, the check engine light on my 2018 Ford Edge came on. So, we took it to the Ford dealership for repairs 0n 5/3/2023. The service center said that there was a problem with one of the spark plugs and replaced it. The cost was $193.47. Following the repair, the check engine light was reset and the car ran smoothly. I took the car on a trip and drove it around 1,000 miles. The check engine light came on again. I returned the car to the same dealership service center on 5/26/2023. Ford told me (see receipt) there was a code P0302 and P0316 and indicated cylinder #2 was misfiring. Receipt said checked all cylinders and pistons for discoloration. Cylinder #2 was badly discolored. Vehicle has coolant intrusion in cylinders - needs motor. This bill was $180. Service desk personnel asked whether I had an extended...
