I took my car in for Ford Recalls to be performed and asked for the tech to check out why my Check engine light came on. Initially they could not find what caused it so they charged me close to $500 to do an in depth investigation and found that I had a crack in my engine that was causing coolant to leak into it. It could not be repaired and I would have to replace the engine. My car only had just over 65,000 miles on it, and unfortunately just over the warranty. So I was charged $7,000 to replace it. When I called the main Ford Customer Service number I was told that this seems to be a common issue with this year and model but there was nothing that I could do about it, short of a recall being issued for the engine problem. I had no...

I own a 2018 ford edge sel whose flex plate has cracked. Ford has stated that their edge models between the years 2015-2018 have faulty flex plates, which are prone to cracking and shattering. I noticed a change one day in how the vehicle was running, and the next day heard the rattle coming from the engine. I took it to a shop I trust and with a quick inspection they determined that it was in fact, a broken flex plate. The estimated cost that was was quoted was at minimum $1640.00. I've contacted ford about the issue, which they've acknowledged, but because I'm over the milage for financial support from them, they refused to help me. This has put a massive strain on me due to the fact that the car is my only source of transportation, and beyond that, has caused me a loss financially due to its...

4/2/23 the check engine light appeared on the dashboard of this 2018 Ford edge. It started to run rough on a cold start. A sweet smell, and a small amount of white smoke from the tail pipe. After several days of this morning being illuminated, an engine, coolant, overheat warning appeared on the dash. This caused the car to slow considerably. This vehicle was independently assessed at a Ford dealership at which time it was confirmed that there was coolant leaking into the engine, causing the engine to overheat. This is a significant safety hazard, potentially causing an engine failure or car fire. an engine failure or car fire. This causes a significant risk to the operator and passengers inside vehicle, as well as other occupants on the road. Should the engine fail. This car is available for additional independent assessment, if needed.

Engine Failure, verified by Ford Leesburg Dealership check engine light came on when engine was failing drove straight to the dealership
#11513459 |
Check engine light came on, I read it with my code reader and it showed as a cylinder 3 misfire. I ordered spark plugs to replace to see if that was the issue. A few days later I noticed my heat would blow cold when I was idling. I checked under my hood and noticed that my coolant levels were extremely low. Bought coolant and filled my reservoir back up and checked it the next day, it was back down to the extremely low level. I ended up taking my vehicle to the mechanic and he told me that my coolant was leaking into my engine and that I should go back to the dealership I got the car from. Never in a million years would I have thought that my car troubles were going to be this expensive, especially considering that I just got the vehicle only 7 months...

I've took my car to the dealership and been advise that I need to replace my engine. The most common issue is the coolant leakage into the engine. This leads to engine misfiring. I was advise from the dealership I ned to have my engine replacement. After researching, I see alot of compliants on the coolant leaking into the engine, this should be a recall.
#11511940 |
The vehicle is a 2018 Ford Edge and has less than 100k miles on it. Car was leaking coolant and we took it to the dealership where they told us it was leaking coolant into cylinder 4 and was possibly a cracked head. They had an adjuster, from the warranty company, inspected the vehicle and the adjuster stated we needed a new motor on 2/20/23 then 3 days later, 2/23/23, the warranty company contacted the dealership and told them they revoked the engine swap. They stated it must be damaged by an internally lubricated part. The dealership also put in an appeal to the denial. We've been having a constant battle with the warranty since February 4th. My car was in shop for 36 consecutive days and has yet to be fixed. The vehicle can overheat due to the constant leak of coolant and catch on fire or potentially blow...

We purchased this used vehicle, a Ford Edge Titanium with an Ecoboost 2.0 engine on January 19, 2023 from the Kia Store in Clarksburg, Indiana. During the first 30 days while still under dealership warranty the Check Engine Light (CEL) lit up. A scan at a local repair shop on January 31, 2023 indicated a misfire on Cylinder 3. (p0303) When the CEL lit up again tech at the Kia dealership examined the vehicle on February 06, 2023 and said that nothing appeared to be wrong with the vehicle. When the CEL lit up again and we took the car back to the local repair shop who recommended all new spark plugs. That repair was performed. A few days later the CEL lit up again and a new ignition coil for cylinder 3 was recommended and that repair was performed. Recently, the CEL has lit up yrt sgsom and we...

I took my car in because the check engine light came on. I've been told that coolant is leaking in my engine and the only repair option is to replace the engine. When I did some research online, this is a known issue for the model/year of car. There are many reports of it happening. The cost of this is $10,000. I was not in an accident. I take excellent care of my car. This is a known manufacturer issue.

Coolant leaking into the engine - replacement of engine needed.
#11510037 |
I was driving on interstate route 22 in Derry Twp. Pa. when the engine started to shake and the vehicle started to slow down , I know that there was a ford garage 2 mile down the road , and I managed to get the vehicle to the Ford garage. Upon inspection by the Ford service garage they informed me that there is coolant getting into the #2 cylinder of the 4 cylinder engine . They also informed me that it cannot be fixed and that the entire engine needs to be replaced . There is only 61,166 miles on the engine and Ford says that it is out of warranty and the owner is responsible for all repairs which comes to $7,121.01 . I have spoken to 3 Ford garages , TRI-STAR MOTERS , Blairsville, Pa. were my vehicle is , LATROBE FORD , and Greensburg FORD, and all...

There is a problem with coolant leaking into the cylinders on the 2.0L Ecoboost engines on the Ford edge requiring the entore engine to be replaced. Now mine is under warranty but I have researched and there are many many people having the same issue. I think it's time ford issues a recall since it's a manufacturer defect
#11508412 |
Engine light came on, code it was showing was P0302. Took it to the mechanic the next morning. The shop said there is coolant leaking into the engine and the only repair to be had is to get an entire new engine. We purchased the edge used with about 72,000 miles within the last month. Upon further research, it seems that coolant leaking into the edge in the 2015-2018 models is very common, yet there is no recall for our VIN and no direct suppose from Ford if outside the manufacture warranty.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to a second dealer, Eugene Vaughn Ford Sales (106 Hwy 63 West, Marked Tree, AR 72365: (870) 358-2822) to be diagnosed and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000. The contact stated that the second dealer replaced the motor. Cost of repair will not be covered by Ford because the vehicle has over 60,000 miles.

TSB 22-2229 Had dealer change spark plugs, while attempting broke spark plug off in head. Reported they would have to replace the head. More investigation led them to TSB 22-2229 and a boroscope of the head found coolant intrusion. Now the dealer states it will cost me 6500$ to repair the long block due to the coolant intrusion. This is a known problem with 2014-2018 Ford Edge and Ford Escapes as well as other vehicles. Copied from a law group website who is filing a class action lawsuite "Experts recommend that customers notify the Ford motor company as soon as possible once they identify an issue. These problems are not always simple and could cause dangerous consequences. If the leak inside it is left unfixed, it could cause problems with the engine and cause a rear-drive axle seizure." A quick search of this has hundreds of complaints stating this issue....

My vehicle only has 77K miles on it and is already needing an entirely new engine due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. We discovered this after replacing all the spark plugs in the vehicle and the check engine light not disengaging. You should not have to replace an entire engine with only 77K miles. This is a known issue with FORD referencing two bulletin's - the first bulletin #19-2346 and now with bulletin #22-2133. They are refusing to cover the repairs 100% and expecting the consumer to pay 40% of the cost of their known issue of a $10K repair ticket. It also clearly states in the recent bulletin that the MIL may or may not engage with this issue. If we had know that this was an issue with this vehicle inside the 5 year/60K mile powertrain warraty which would have covered the repairs 100% we would have...

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on an incline at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into Limp Mode and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light and the engine safe mode light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the spark plugs and injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he noticed light smoke coming from the exhaust and smelled a burning odor. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a portion of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

Vehicle is overheating due to a coolant leak into the cylinder. Ford knows of issue but has not recalled vehicle even though it's a defect in the design of the engine.

My 2018 Ford Edge has 85k miles. Recently it began vibrating on startup even after the auto-shut off button was activated. The rough idle began interfering with my ability to maintain adequate attention on the road and created significant feelings of anxiety each at every braking. Vehicle check engine light would come on and then go off. On 8/26/22 vehicle was inspected by Beach Ford who completed a fuel injector treatment. After picking up vehicle the check engine light reappeared. Attempted to contact service agent by cell phone because dealership stated that was the only way to communicate but did not receive reply. Changed all spark plugs and coils due to code P0303. Check engine light still on so contacted Beach Ford again and on 9/9/22 they confirmed the issue as a coolant leak appearing on the “bulletin” as a commonly known defect for my vehicle. The dealership stated I...

Coolant leaking into the engine which cracked the engine, need a new engine
#11479640 |
My car needs a new engine. I got an oil change in March and everything was fine with the engine. Then in June a cloud of smoke came out of my tail pipe when I started the car, but since at this time the car had been sitting I thought this was the cause. A couple days later my check engine light came on and an indicator stating my coolant was hot when i was accelerating getting on the fwy. I checked the coolant and it below the minimum which was odd since i had gotten an oil change and topped off my fluids only a couple months before. I added coolant and the indicator and check engine light went off. My check engine light, another billow of smoke and my car stating my coolant was overheating happened again early July and I tool my vehicle in on July 18th...

Check Engine light came on in June of 2022 and the code was for a cylinder one misfire. Took the vehicle to dealership where they confirmed it is a known issue amongst this make, model, and year. They determined coolant was leaking into the engine and the only repair was replacement of the engine. They told us there was a bulletin issued by Ford for the problem but no recall. The engine had to have coolant replaced several times over a short period of time. The leak caused burn off of the coolant that in turn changes exhaust. The engine can overheat and cause larger damage because there is no indicator to alert or warn of low coolant. The issue poses an environmental and safety risk as the vehicle can shut off at random and reach temperatures that can cause a fire.

We have 64,000 miles on this car. A p0303 code came on and took vehicle to ford. Mechanic said we need a new engine and quoted us $7,584. We were told that we're 4,000 over our warranty and the dealership and ford will not pay a cent toward repair. This is a well known issue with the 2.0 turbo engine. There are numerous accounts of this engine failing and still ford turns a blind eye. There is a t.s.b. #22-2229 and ford will not fix this. This needs to be addressed with ford and they need to pay for their failure. Thank you.

Vehicle started going through coolant with no signs of leaks anywhere. We took it to multiple mechanics and no one could find any coolant leaks. We were still putting coolant in every other week, again no signs of leaks anywhere but empty coolant tank. Turns out the coolant was going straight into the motor mixing with the oil causing it to slowly seize up. The repair shop it’s at told us this issue wasn’t preventative maintenance but a mechanical failure on Ford’s part and their 2.0 eco boost engines. According to some Ford forums this failure is common with the 2.0 eco boost motor. There’s also a class action lawsuit pending against Ford for this mechanical failure of theirs. This repair is nearly 10 thousand dollars (who has 10k for repairs?! we’re still making payments on the thing) This has put our family without our vehicle for quite some time. The...

Engine light came on. Vehicle brought to dealership. Needs new engine 75k miles. Due to "porous engine block". Extended warranty company will not fix because it is a "known manufacturing defect" ($8200) Codes pulled p0303 p0316 Ford is risking the safety of all who are driving these vehicles and those who may be on the road with one. The FIRE RISK associated with this KNOWN DEFECT needs to be addressed.

Check engine light came on as well as a high coolant temperature. Took the car to the dealer and had it tested. Coolant is leaking into the middle cylinders. Will need a new engine.

I've bought a 2018 Ford Edge SEL July of 2021 at Zech Ford (Kansas), it had just a little over 50k miles, within the first month of ownership, engine light comes on (code P0301), I took to the dealership and they replaced the oxygen sensor, everything seemed fine since. This last May, the flex plate cracked, I took to Greenway Ford dealership (Florida) and paid $3,085.36 for the repair, within just an hour of having the car back, engine light comes on (P0301), I immediately took the car back, they kept the car for the weekend, replaced the stream O2 sensor and charged me $105.24, they only charged me for the part, they waived the labor fee since I just had a $3k repair. Now, 2 months later, engine light comes on again for the same code P0301, but this time I can hear liquid running through the dashboard and...

There is a crack in the engine block that is pulling coolant into the engine causing total engine failure. In addition there are carbon deposits in the coolant which means the exhaust is being pulled into the coolant/engine system. The first indicator of a problem was at 80k miles with rough idle and hesitation on acceleration. 2 engine check lights lead to replacing 'bad coils' and spark plugs. Then the car started to overheat and ran out of coolant. We replaced to coolant and it ran out again 3 weeks later. With no evidence of a coolant leak we knew there was a major problem and online research showed likely total engine failure. This has been confirmed by the dealer and requires a whole new engine long block ($9000 repair). Driving a car with a cracked engine block is dangerous to myself and others on the road. Luckily I figured...

Check engine light came on and I brought it in for diagnostic. I was told cylinder misfire and coolant is leaking into cylinder and damaged engine. I was told I need a new engine. I have 71k miles so I am outside of warranty. Both the dealer and independent repair shop I went to both told me the exact same diagnosis and that they have both been seeing this a lot with this 2.0 ecoboost engine. There should be a recall on this, not just a service bulletin when it’s a known issue with this engine. Engine replacement should not be happening on this year vehicle and with these low of miles (but just outside of warranty!)

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and noticed blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was fluid leaking into the cylinder. The coils, spark plugs, and cylinder #2 were replaced; however, the failure persisted. 5/27/2022-the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called the Ford Customer Relation Center and they said Ford would not do anything for the engine repair; contact was told to contact NHTSA. Contact received letter from law firm regarding lawsuit for "ENGINE DEFECTS SUCH AS COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER". The contact stated that engine failure was confirmed by the dealer and...
