WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, IT JUST PERIODICALLY LOST ACCELERATION ABILITY. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35-40 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME. I THEN COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES. AT THAT TIME THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON THE DISPLAY REFERRING ME TO MY MANUAL FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, WHICH TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A POWERTRAIN PROBLEM AND TO CONTACT A DEALER FOR SERVICE. IT THEN STARTED FINE AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR SOME TIME. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I THEN HAD A FEW DAYS OF NORMAL DRIVING, AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT SEEMED TO JUST DECELERATE MORE RAPIDLY (UNABLE TO COAST TO A STOP), IT JUST STOPPED BUT WAS STILL RUNNING. THIS HAPPENED IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. I PULLED ON TO A SIDE STREET, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND CHECKED TO OWNER'S MANUAL. IT SAID :POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION". THE INSTRUCTIONS SAID TO STOP DRIVING AND CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I DID THIS. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WAS SAFE TO TURN ON THE CAR'S AIR CONDITIONING. I WAS TOLD, "YES" THIS IS SAFE. THE TOW ARRIVED 65 MINUTES LATER AND TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. DRIVING APROX. 40 MPH WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, CALL DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT WOULD CAUSE IT. THEY SAY TO KEEP DRIVING UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN BRING IT INTO BE CHECKED (100.00). CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 3 DAYS LATER, I HAD A LITTLE COMPUTER IT READ CODE P0744, TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT, GENERIC CODE FOR POWER TRAIN PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEIR COMPUTER WAS READING THAT CODE AS WELL AS NEEDING A NEW PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE). THIS IS COSTING APROX. $655.00 AND THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE ONLY THING IT NEEDS, ONCE THIS IS FIXED THE COMPUTER COULD READ SOMETHING ELSE. DURING DRIVING MY 2011 FORD EDGE THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STALL OCCURRED AT AN APPROXIMATE DRIVING SPEED OF 30 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY. A LIGHT DEPICTING A WRENCH SHOWN ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAY ALONG WITH A MESSAGE TO CONSULT MANUAL. AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED, I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET IT GOING AGAIN BEFORE I GOT HIT BY A CAR. THE CAR DID START AND THEN DROVE NORMALLY. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY JERKED AND QUICKLY LOST SPEED, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN CAR SHIFTED INTO OVERDRIVE, THEN IT BUCKED. FOLLOWED BY DECREASE IN SPEED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AWDLIGHT CAME ON. LIMPED CAR TO SAFE LOCATION. NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. ENGINE WAS RUNNING, BUT STUMBLING. I TURNED CAR OFF AND WAITED A MINUTE. THEN RESTARTED, EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS MY 2ND COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SAME DEFECT AS IT HAS OCCURRED 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES (3 TOTAL INCIDENTS). THE 1ST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 4/11. THE 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/2 WHEN MY WIFE WAS TURNING RIGHT FROM AN INTERSECTION. AT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH SHE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE AVOIDING TRAFFIC. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. ONCE SHE TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE CAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE 3RD INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/3. MY WIFE ACCELERATED FROM A RED LIGHT INTO AN INTERSECTION AND LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SHE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH CARS SWERVING AROUND HER. SHE AGAIN STOPPED HER CAR FROM COASTING, PUT IT IN PARK, AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. ON 10 OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STALLED AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE "AWD OFF" AND ENGINE ICON WOULD LIGHT UP. IN ALL INCIDENTS, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND AVOID A REAR END COLLISION. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED AT A FORD DEALER, THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY.
