The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was then steered over to the side of the road and restarted; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact observed a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the control rod had fractured, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

2018 Honda Odyssey engine failure due to a 'spun' connecting rod bearing. This is a known issue with this particular make and model and should be considered in the recall for these vehicles.

Emission error code which is part of recalls due to Fuel pump and suddenly check Egin light came on and vehicle couldn't shift from Park Mode to Drive Mode. We took the vehicle to Dealer ship and they mentioned that transmission failure where vehicle just two weeks ago at the dealership for another repair and inspection report didn't specify anything about the transmission.

The vehicle has recently and suddenly developed a loud engine knocking sound which sounds like an engine bottom-end knock (crankshaft or connecting rod). The sound is dependent upon engine RPM and is most noticeable at low RPM and when the engine is warm. The knocking sound is severe for the first 1-2 seconds on cold engine start, until oil pressure is developed. There are two known incidents believed to be caused by this issue: 1. While driving on a public highway with a 75 MPH speed limit, the engine knock became severe and the check engine light began flashing. The car would not accelerate, and once speed was reduced it would not accelerate at all and "limped" home at much-reduced speed. Prevailing traffic had to take action to avoid colliding from behind. 2. While driving up a very slight incline on a public highway with a 65 MPH speed limit,...

Did not control speed sometime up and down engine.

The engine failed without prior indication. The dealer says the engine is destroyed and needs to be replaced. Once the engine stopped working the vehicle would not go into neutral and was immovable preventing the vehicle from being moved to a safe location. The dash had a message that said the engine must be running to shift to neutral but the engine was blown. The owners manual has no solution to put the vehicle in neutral with an inoperable engine.

I just had several recalls completed on my van. The issue that they couldn’t fix (which I have seen on so many message boards) my car stalls when starting from a stop. If I’m at a stop sign and press the gas nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it will catch and take off throwing everything in the car and the people forward. It is terrifying! I’ve had it happen with cars approaching and just been a sitting duck, thank the Lord it engaged in time. This seems to be a very prevalent issue and I don’t understand why a recall hasn’t been done before someone dies. My trunk also doesn’t work automatically anymore and they said I had a leak that would be $300 to diagnose and $500 to fix. I know ther are lawsuits for both of these issues. Recalls need to be issued.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH uphill with the windows down, the contact heard a knocking or tapping sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and the dealer confirmed hearing the tapping sound. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Lia Honda Williamsville Auto Repair & Service Center (4891 Transit Rd, Williamsville, NY 14221); however, the knocking sound was not heard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact had heard the sound approximately 3 more times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey stalls or hesitates when I go from a stop to accelerate. The vehicle will lose all power for 3-6 seconds and when the engine catches up to the pedal, the vehicle accelerates hard, spinning the tires and jerking the vehicle. I've had the vehicle inspected at my local Honda dealership and they've said the vehicle has no open recalls. This includes the fuel pump recall and the engine recall, neither recall has been issued for my vehicle. The results of the inspection was the technician explaining that "the vehicle just does that." My vehicle has not produced any warning lamps for the engine. My vehicle has produced several warnings lamps and warning messages on the infotainment screen about the side doors being open. I've had several instances where the door will not close and or will not open properly.

Engine has been “hiccuping” for a few months and making a knocking sound. Brought it to Honda on 3 separate occasions and they “could not replicate” the sound. And said it’s normal. I’ve had 2 non Honda mechanics look at it and they agree it sounds like a rod knock and engine failure is going to happen sooner rather than later.

Code p219b. I feel this vehicle falls into the same fuel injector issue as other 2018 Honda odyssey. Bulletin 20-100, 21-010

At approximately 70,000 miles, vehicle transmission failed after intermittently falling to go into reverse and transmission warning system shifting vehicle down while driving. Rebuild parts not available from manufacturer, replaced transmission with used part. Immediately after putting car back into service, engine began to knock severely. Dealer recommended full engine replacement. Car currently not drivable and has been parked for past 13 months.

Either the engine or something else keeps failing and i completely lose power. I got the car towed back to my house. The car starts but a lot of the time it will keep shutting down while I'm on the road. I went to the dealership twice to get it checked out and they say that they do not know what the problem is and can not guarantee that they can fix the issue.

Issue-1 High pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some VINs) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 Nine speed model. Issue-2 MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big Collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda...

While driving down the interstate, the engine started to make a loud squealing noise. I pulled over to investigate. Not being a mechanic, I couldn't determine anything. I attempted to start going again and the engine had no power. I was barely able to get it off the highway and we called for help. In the van were me, my wife, and daughter. It was scary with cars and semitrucks driving past us at high speeds. I was concerned. We were able to get the van towed after several hours of waiting. It was a hot day and I had a tick on me while waiting. The van took over a month to repair. The dealership confirmed the cause of the engine failure as the cylinder #2 connecting rod bearing. There were no warning lights when we pulled over the first time. When we started going, the check engine light...

During the hurricane Milton evacuation my wife and our 3 children suddenly lost power on I75 North in the dark and had to pull to the side of the road with speeding cars flying by in near pitch black. we later discovered that the control rod in the engine is broken according to a Honda dealership and we would need a new engine. The dealership said it is very strange for this to happen with how well it appears to be maintained and that there was a previouse recall on the 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys and mine might need to be included however upon speaking with Honda they said there was nothing they could do. Dealership quoted me $9,100.00 for new engine.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 68 MPH, the vehicle intermittently stalled, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning light was illuminated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure persisted. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer again and was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The...

The check engine light on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has been on since January 2024. We took it to the dealer (Music City Honda - Mt. Juliet, TN) and they claimed the 02 sensors were bad. We paid $500 to have these replaced, but the light came back on. We then received the recall for the fuel pump module. We have tried twice since May 2024 to get the part under recall replaced but have been told both times that the part is unavailable. The dealer claimed that we could bring it in but if the issue is not determined to be related to the recall, we will have the pay the diagnostic fee. Not only is my check engine light on (it says Emissions System Problem), but my car stalls while driving. This poses a significant safety risk for myself and my family, and Honda is refusing to do...

Had about 4 incidences that van completely stalled while driving when coming to a stop. about a week later, was driving the van at approximately 6o mph when it completely shut down, had to pull over immediately to get off road. came to a fast stop. was thankful no other cars were behind us when it happened, feel they would have hit us as the vehicle shut down so quickly. there were no warning lamps or messages indicating any issues. My husband changes the oil/services it according to the manufacturer guidance. Was told by the local mechanic the engine is locked up, would need replaced. Called Honda to report, and since we do not service it at a Honda dealership, they would not assist.

I was driving on the interstate at 80 mph when my engine suddenly failed. The check engine light began to flash, the car began shaking, and there was a very loud thumping from the motor. Thankfully, I was able to pull off the road to safety. Honda diagnosed the problem this morning. They said a connecting rod bearing rotted out, so the engine threw a rod. There is a recall addressing this exact issue for my model year, but my VIN was not included in the recall. Doing a quick google search, I found several other owners of 2018 odysseys in the same boat - sudden engine failure due to a thrown rod, but their VIN wasn't included in the recall. I drive my car a lot, so it has 140,000 miles on it already. This makes me think that I'm likely to be in the early wave of vehicles...

When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds... leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. I think it's the transmission but it could have to do with the fuel intake... it has been ongoing for months and months. The dealer has attempted to rectify but to not avail....very dangerous
#11618269 |
UNKNOWN At random times I will push the gas pedal and the car does not engage at all to move. I will lift my foot up and down trying to engage the engine and it won’t. After a few times it will catch and the car takes off making the tires squeal, spin or jerk. It happens at random times, no warnings whatsoever that there’s a problem. It is very dangerous at intersections when turning left on green lights, when pulling out of parking lots. It’s to the point I am afraid to drive it at busy traffic times because it happens so often and I’m afraid of getting hit while my car will not move. We have told the dealership and they suggested we wait for the fuel pump recall to be readily available. I looked in forums and this seems to be a major problem for many other...

My 2018 Honda Odyssey van have had persistent acceleration hesitations after completed stops, especially during making left or right turns at street intersections since July 2022. This car normally hesitates for 2 to 3 seconds after accelation pedad is pressed before suddently jumps forward. Acceleration hesitation for few seconds, during making a turn, is very dangerous due to in coming cars in my opinion; as a result, we have tried to avoid using my odyssey van as much as possible due to potential accidents when making a turn with this Honda van.

We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23V751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000.

Engine noise, dealer service indicated that its the rod bearings, since I have never ever had this problem on any other car I have owned in 50 years i did a little research and immediately found lots of information and a recall for this problem but my VIN is not included but its exactly the same problem identified in the recall

We encountered a total engine failure while driving down a Montana highway in our 2018 Honda Odyssey. In the car were my partner and I, an elderly person, and a child. We had to wait over 2 hours for a tow truck in extreme heat in a dangerous location. There were no warning indications before the failure.

I have a 2018 odyssey and have only had it for about 6 months. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is when I go to accelerate, the car does not go right away. I have to push down hard on the pedal and the tires spin, resulting in the van lurching then accelerating quickly. This has caused MANY moments of panic as I’ve gone to accelerate to pull into traffic or to drive across a main road and it’s stalled for a moment then lurches into accelerating. I’m a careful driver and have always used acceleration in moderation and try to ease into it. This van does not allow that. You will try to press down on the pedal to slowly accelerate with nothing happening, then it’s like it connects and plows forward. Tires spinning and all.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. In addition, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

This complaint is related to the recall issued for the fuel pump repairs. The car hesitates when starting from a stop. The hesitation is alarming enough during left turns to avoid on-coming traffic. The dealer and Ameican Honda has been made aware of this. However, the local dealer is refusing to prioritize the repair. The local dealer (Economy Honda of Chattanooga) states that they will prioritize the repairs only when the car comes to complete stop. With this kind of policy of the local dealer, I do not know when the repairs will be done. The car is used to transport four children and the family. Please help getting the repairs done as soon as possible. The safety of children and the family is at stake. This occurs all the time when the car is used. This car had two issues: 1) Fuel pump recall 2) Fuel injector warrantee repairs....

2018 Honda Odyssey failed transmission systems. This vehicle had recalls in regard to TCM module and softwares in past. Normally transmission system should last well over 150,000 miles for this type of vehicle. My car failed at 74000 miles. That too without any advanced warning. Vehicle was maintained and serviced at same dealership regularly where it was purchased. Honda is claiming its outside their 60000 mile powertrain warranty. Honda expects me to pay over 10,000 dollars for repair. I believe my vehicle is having issues with transmission related to TCM module recall of 2019 and Recall 04v176 of 2023. Honda is refusing to look in to possibility of my vehicle's issue could possibly related to those recalls. I believe those recalls need to be looked at and my vehicle should have been involved in those recalls. I have documented proof for all services performed and current vehicle inspection report.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact became aware of a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced or repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall with a similar failure; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey doesn't have any current vehicle recalls but it's is experiencing the engine stall while driving, the power sliding floors not locking properly and the power trunk making a grinding noise when it opens and closes. I had the vehicle inspected at the local Honda dealership and they told me there was nothing they could do about the vehicle stalling, the power doors not closing and the trunk grinding. From releasing the brake and pressing the gas, the vehicle will stall and then spin the tires as if I'm racing or burning rubber.

Vehicle stalls when pulling out into traffic! Terrifying with my 6 kids and I'm immediately getting rid of this vehicle. Tried to have the fuel pump (current recall) replaced but Honda dealership has the vehicle for 6 DAYS! and still didn't have the part in. Upon dropping the vehicle off the tailgate lift would not work properly. This van is a load of garbage since they started using so many modules to control it! Extremely disappointed in Honda. They know all of these faulty parts and don't care enough to fix them for the safety of the consumer. Absolutely horrifying the direction of the automobile industry.

Knocking noise began so I took it to a Honda dealership. They said I have a “lower knock noise” and need a new engine because a bearing went out for a rod which could cause my engine to seize. Though there is a recall for some 2018 odysseys, I’m being told mine isn’t covered. Apparently there are many more people with the same vehicle and the same issue as me. I’d like to see this included in the recall

When driving the engine starting making a loud metallic noise. The engine also was not operating as it should have been. This occurred in early March 2023. I was able to slowly drive it to the Honda dealership in Glenwood Springs and when I stopped the engine stopped, I was unable to restart it. After several weeks, the Honda dealership stated it needed a new Engine. Initially I was quoted around 12k, then they offered a good will discount and we got the replacement to be around 6k. In late 2023, I saw that there was a recall on 2018 Honda Odysseys for an engine defect that could cause the engine to "run improperly or stall while driving." This is essentially what happened to me, but my vehicle is not on the recall list limiting Honda's requirement to fully cover the cost of replacing the engine.

On the week of May 3rd my car began to shift into different gears with no notice or reason while driving, when it would do this it would show a warning signal on the dash that stated"transmission issue!" And the gear letter would flash on the dash. I brought the car in to the dealership it was purchased from (Ira Honda Saco, ME) as the car was shifting into reverse and park while driving causing significant safety issues for myself and my children in the car. When I arrived I was told there was issue with loaners although the service employee was great in helping me find one eventually that day as I'm a solo parent with multiple children. However, when I brought the car I said there was a recall on the transmission for this exact issue. I was told my make model and year matched but not the...

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that on one occasion the battery was replaced due to the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,500. Parts distribution disconnection.

On April 13th, 2024 our son was driving the family 2018 Honda Odyssey (Approx 83,000 miles) in a nearby city. He was driving at 43 mph when the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral without his shifting it. He tried to brake using the brake pedal but was unable to stop or slow the vehicle. He also tried to accelerate and was unable to accelerate the vehicle. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and he was forced to use the emergency brake to stop the minivan. A good samaritan stopped and assuming that the battery was the problem, tried to help jump-start the vehicle -- but they were unable to start the car. Our son called us, and I drove 20 or so miles to his location. After trying a jump box in the vehicle, we called AAA. After trying a jump start and a new battery, At...

Since 2020, we have noticed that the 2018 Honda Odyssey we own will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed. There is a noticeable delay between 1 to 3 seconds for the vehicle to accelerate. Once the vehicle accelerates, it does so at an increased rate of speed that is dangerous and scary. This has led to 100+ near miss collisions with pedestrians and other oncoming vehicles at 4-way lighted intersections, highway on-ramps and other driving scenarios. This has caused me and my family traumatic stress (injury) as we've had so many close calls due to Honda's manufacturing failures and failures to address this problem. We have to drive extra cautiously and under stress in anticipation of the acceleration delay. We took to the dealership several times and they said there appears to be no issue even though I'm certain they didn't do thorough test drive to inspect problem....

I called Honda services when I received the recall letter from the mail and they kept on telling me that the parts has not come in yet, so call back later. So, I did do that I called back around 2-3 times and they kept on telling me the same thing that the parts have not come in yet and call back later and would not let me make an appointment. I called them the month of March and April and they still would not let me make an appointment.

when stopped in traffic or a light, the engine idle engages. on several occassions (5-6) the stop is too short but the Auto Engine idle is engaged and rather than restart the engine, it turns the engine off. THe car will not restart or turn off unless i open the driver door then hit the on/off button and let the whole car completely shut down before turning it back on. It can take almost full minute or more to go through the process. The danger to myself and those in my car, when we are stopped on the highway, busy road and traffic begins to move again, and i have to open my driver door to get the car to turn back on. I have informed the Honda Dealership (Pohanka Fredericksburg) about the incidents almost every time they have occurred to have them look at the vehicle, but informed they...

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, the signal changed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated before responding. The contact stated that the engine almost stalled while driving at various speeds. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle also lurched forward while responding. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Car stalls out and completely shuts off when auto start/stop is engaged. In the 2018 model there is no way to turn off auto start/stop. The car has been unable to turn on for 3 minutes causing major safety and traffic issues. On average it takes 10-20 seconds to manually restart the vehicle with the engine start/stop button. We have taken the vehicle back to the Honda dealership multiple (3-4) times with no resolution and in they can’t find the problem, but has happened to them during test drive. They did a system update hoping it will solve the problem, but it hasn’t. I’m going to have to take it back to Honda again. Please issue a recall, this has been a known problem/issue and is on Reddit. The issue first started about a year and a half ago with the most recent occurrence being today, April 17th 2024. The...

At 60 mph, the fuel injectors failed on cylinder 1/2/3 (known issue based on TSB [XXX]). The vehicle produced various error codes but did not go into limp mode. We proceeded to the nearest exit on the highway to safely pull off. The engine shortly after turned on limp mode as we neared the exit. We heard an audible ping noise and the engine power changed (could still keep the vehicle moving but shaking in the steering wheel). We were on a straight path of road so the steering wheel shaking was manageable. We had the vehicle towed to nearest Honda Dealership and they completed the TSB putting in new injectors. The fault codes cleared on cylinder 1 & 2 but not 3. They performed compression test and assessed dead cylinder requiring new engine replacement. Technician also noted that #3 injector had locked open and spark plug was soaked with...

My wife was driving our 2018 Honda Odyssey when there was acute diminished and very unstable engine power on 7/10/2023. She heard a "knocking" noise like metal-on-metal and pushing the accelerator resulted in very uneven increase in speed - in fact, it would not go above 30mph. She immediately took the van to our local car dealership, but it was very difficult to drive the 1-2 miles it took for her to get there. Her safety was put at risk because the engine did not provide reliable power to drive after that acute event and she easily could have been rear-ended or involved in an accident. We were both very thankful that our children were not in the van at the time. The check engine light immediately came on as well when this happened and when she got to the dealer, the service department identified a P0303 stored code suggesting...

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on various occasions while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and was restarted. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled on approximately eight separate occasions. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod was damaged, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,667.

The transmission is unreliable. You push the gas and it hesitates to accelerate or switch to the next gear to speed up. It can shake or rattle the car. Has a trouble at low speeds or shifting to the next gear to increase speed. This makes it dangerous to try to pull out into an intersection because the transmission or gear shifting doesn't always hit and you can get hit or injured. This transmission has been weird since the car was new.

10/4/2023 (55K miles), the vehicle suddenly lost power at interstate speed and dropped to three cylinders. Warning lights came on disabling all automatic safety systems. I took the vehicle to a parts store and OBD indicated an oil pressure sensor in VTEC Bank 1. After restarting the vehicle I once again had all 6 cylinders, but all safety systems failures were still indicated on the dash. I replaced the battery (5.5 years old) and all systems returned to normal. After a the PGM-FI update for idle stop issues (recall) was performed at the dealer on 1/31/2024, two days later (2/2/2024) the previous event recurred resulting in severe loss of power and all safety systems indicating failure. I replaced the 4 month old battery under warranty believing the battery had failed prematurely. The problem did not resolve after replacing the battery and multiple restarts.
