The vehicle had low voltage indications and electrical issues that would affect many of the electrical systems in the car (power doors, main entertainment system, etc). More concerning, the vehicle would shift into park while driving and then would shut off. This posed a serious hazard when driving quickly. Honda was unable to remedy the issue and could not come up with a definitive cause. Another recall with these same problem was issued for other VIN numbers of the same make, model, and manufacturing year. My VIN was not included in that recall. The recall needs to be expanded to include more VINs as this is an issue in 2018 Honda Odyssey vans and poses a risk to me and my family while driving in its current state. My transmission is now experiencing issues due to shifting into park while driving and needs to be replaced.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rod bearing failure lead to engine seizing How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? We started hearing the ticking in October, I visited the dealership and contacted Honda multiple times and either told to take no action or wait for the recall. Case #[XXX] We expressed our concern to both the dealership and Honda about not addressing the issue because we had a big trip for Christmas coming up. My mother-in-law has terminal cancer and the entire family was getting together for Christmas with her. To get there we drive 20 hours from Arkansas to Utah. We followed the advice of the dealership and Honda and waited. Unfortunately about 50 miles out of Amarillo the van started to make loud engine noise and stalled. While going 75 miles an hour...

I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring. On December 8th exactly one week after I had my van serviced at the local Honda Dealership I broke down on the interstate. My van started making strange noises and the check engine light started blinking. I lost all power and had to merge over to the emergency lane almost causing an accident. I contacted the service manager at the local Honda dealership. I explained to him what was going on, I also told him that I noticed a slight tapping sound the week prior and asked them to check it out when I brought it in for service on November 30th. I was told they didn't notice anything wrong and that the only thing I needed was front brake pads. Upon searching the internet I found there is currently a recall on some of the models for faulty connecting rod bearings. Preston...

My odyssey is running rough and Not accelerating correctly. All lights on the dash come on including emissions and power steering and traction control. I recently spent close to $3,000 doing the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and valve adjustment. All maintenance is up to date.

There’s currently a recall on the 2018 2019 Honda odysseys. The recall is for the same as exact issue that I had with my 2018 Honda Odyssey there’s a problem with the connecting rod bearings recall campaign number 23V751000. I’m being told from Honda that my van does not fall into the production date range for the recall. I’m being told that any repairs I’m going to have to cover myself even though it’s the same issue that the other vehicles are having. I was on the interstate traveling about 70 miles an hour. My check engine light came on blinking I lost total power I had to get out of the left lane and make it all the way to the shoulder between traffic. I had my car towed to the Honda dealership that I’ve taken it to for every single service since I purchased the vehicle. I want...

Car has acceleration issues when making left turns, merging onto freeway, or passing cars on freeway. Transmission and blind spot light went on and we took car to Honda dealer. They could not find anything wrong, no codes were stored and they were not able to duplicate the issue. Scanned vehicle and unable to trace root cause. Updated TCM software which helped for about a month but acceleration issues are now back again. This is a serious safety issue as the car hesitates to accelerate. We have kept up with all car maintenance.

Around October 29th my vehicle developed a faint to loud noise within 24 hours. There was no engine light, no leaking of fluids and no other warning. As we drove the vehicle to a repair shop I could tell there was some hesitation or lack of normal power. The shop we took my vehicle too was not able to do any repair or diagnosis so it was towed to Honda of Olathe, then New Concept Auto and finally Sallas Auto. On November 10th, I was told my engine needed to be replaced due to bearing issue. The mechanic ran diagnostic tests and did not find any past cleared codes or active codes that should have been triggered by an engine issue. My vehicle was serviced regularly. Most recent was an oil change end July/Early August, no issues were found, no metal flakes. In that short period of time my engine...

Manufacturing Engine damage/failure. Synthetic oil was used at all oil changes every 5K miles. However, after only 3K miles after last oil change the oil level was low and dirty. Engine light started flashing and failed to accelerate. Engine also started making a knocking noise.

For the last 3 months the car will turn on by itself and drain the battery. Went to several mechanics that could not find a reason for this issue. This weekend, while I was driving on the road, the car stopped while driving on the highway. This happened 4 times risking my life, wife, and my children. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by other owners of this car on various forums. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer as they are trying to charged me thousands of dollars to review the issue. There were no warning lamps or signals on the car.

I was driving down the interstate and I lost total power. My engine stalled, mechanic says connecting rod bearing failure. There is currently a recall on some of the 2018 Honda odyssey models for the same problem but from what I read it doesn’t cover mine even though it has the same issue as the recall

When I was driving on the road a few hours away from my hometown, the check engine light started blinking. I took the car to a nearby Honda dealership. They said blinking engine light was due to misfire on cylinder 6. Solution is to replace fuel injectors, but the injectors are on back order with no release date. So I am not able to drive the car right now until it is fixed. Please advise. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine suddenly lost power while driving on highway putting my family at risk of a serious accident. A Honda dealer diagnosed a connecting rod bearing issue No warning before engine lost power - flashing engine late came on at same time. Honda dealer says a new engine is needed.

The car stop or fall several times when doing a complete stop and may cause and accident
#11549489 |
Here is what happened: 1). After the car driving for 10mins and engine warms up, stop the car, and turn off. 2). Turn on the car again, it shows message such as "Emissions System Problem", "Transmission problem", "Blind Spot Info System Problem" at the same time. The computer locks the car that doesn't allow the Transmission to change from "P" to "R", "N", or "D" position. The car fails to drive. 3). Leave the car for few hours and let the engine compartment cool down first, turn on the car again and those messages go away, and the car can drive. 4). After driving for a while, it repeats the problem from 1) ~ 3).

This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues, culminating in the need for three batteries in a six year. Period. From day one there were electrical issues with the auto stop start and the car in one occasion the battery completely died. Honda was unable to identify the issue and electrical issues. Continue to happen. in the last 18 months I’ve had numerous occasions where this auto stop start would engage at a stoplight stop sign in the middle of busy traffic, but would not start back up. I took it in for service and they cannot re-create or identify the issue. This is very scary when it happens as I have been on start and go traffic on the interstate on busy intersections and the car will not move nor can it be restarted for 5 to 10 minutes. Honda offers no solution to this dangerous problem. After months of...

Recently started to experience this issue. I have 41,000miles on this 2018 Honda Odyssey. It Jerks & delayed acceleration/hesitation upon acceleration while driving between 20‐35mph on local roads. It happens mostly with slowing down in traffic or upon stopping at stop sign & accelerating again. I am not experiencing this issue with freeway driving. I went to the dealership where I bought the car from. They asked me for $280 to just diagnose the problem, but I refuse to pay for just to diagnose. Currently, I am trying to research out my own. As the dealership has no clue about the issue. Please provide me with any related complaints & resolution for this problem.

When the vehicle’s auto start-stop feature is active, the feature will malfunction causing the engine to not start properly. Instead, the vehicle stalls and must be restarted manually. However, there are many occasions when the vehicle does not start manually either. In these cases, it takes many attempts to restart the vehicle. While these events are happening, the vehicle displays an error message for the auto start-stop feature on the instrument cluster, and the instrument cluster will flicker on and off. The events often occur during the middle of an intersection and attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. It creates a very dangerous situation. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others because the issue occurs regularly, and the dealership has asked us to come back when the problem is occurring. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by...

In two separate incidents, my vehicle stalled when it tried to restart after being in Auto Idle Stop mode. In both incidents, I was stopped at an intersection where I was making an unprotected left turn. As I was stopped, the Auto Idle Stop mode activated on my Honda Odyssey which turned off the engine. When it was clear to make a left turn, I lifted my foot off the gas which disabled Auto Idle Stop mode. As my engine tried to restart, it stalled. I was able to get it to restart but only after being stalled in traffic for several seconds causing other drivers to honk at me. When my engine restarted, several warning lights lit up on my dashboard for about a second and a warning alarm sounded. Since they were illuminated for such a short period and I was actively trying to clear the intersection, I...

Five years old vehicle jerked and almost came to a complete stop. Engine transmission services warning popped up as soon as the jerk happened the first time. Another warning came up as well. Jerking happens at least every mile. Car full of young kids jerked and almost came to a complete stop on the road and highway. Multiple moving vehicles were near when this occurred, which could have resulted in a terrible accident. Honda dealer said this is due to front camshaft and sensor. No engine warning regarding this problem showed up prior to this jerking. This first appeared on June 23, 2033.

I am having an identical issues as described in NHTSA ID Number 11526094. Vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Have been almost hit a couple times as it is unpredictable when this happens. This is a dangerous behavior and I cannot in clear conscience sell this minivan to another family. I have returned it to the dealer multiple times and they were eventually able to reproduce the problem and captured the behavior on diagnostic equipment. Their finding is that when the accelerator is slightly pressed, and then release (like one might do when entering an intersection to make a left hand turn) the transmission jumps to 5th gear. When the accelerator is pressed to complete the left turn, the transmission spends several seconds shifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd before finally accelerating. This delay opens up the opportunity to get hit. The dealer concurred that this was a...

The problem is with the 9 speed automatic transmission system. Yes, it is available for inspection. There is a delay in acceleration which has caused the vehicle to "stall" in dangerous situations such as pulling out onto a road with traffic, making a left turn with oncoming traffic, or needing to accelerate at a green light. There have been multiple incidents when an oncoming car has had to brake to avoid a collision because I have stalled temporarily in their lane. I have also nearly been rear ended as I stall after moving forward at a green light. The vehicle accelerates too slowly from a stop, then stalls for several seconds before over correcting and too much power causes the tires to spin and the car can get a little squirrelly if I am not extra careful. It happens often but not always and is getting worse and more frequent....

several times when stopped at a light, the vehicle's auto idle engine engages and shuts the car off. When the brake has been released, the vehicle has failed to start. Most recently, this occurred while waiting in a car line of traffic and it took many different attempts to get the car engine back on - about 10 minutes before the engine could be started, resulting in myself and my children stuck on the road while we opened doors, the hood of the car, tried to start the car and turn it completely off. It was in a stuck position until it wasn't. that was the first time the vehicle wouldn't start after numerous attempts to start the engine. We have been told there is no way to fix this - only to manually turn the function off every time the car is started.

Vehicle intermittently engine does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Seems engine is hesitating and will not react to input from gas pedal. Very dangerous situation when you are merging onto highways or turning on to a road. Has done it for some time now. Cannot replicate when taken to dealer. I have read on Honda Odyssey (Ody Club) that this is a common issue with this vehicle. I am afraid my wife is going to wind up in a nasty accident.

This issue been going on for a while now. I Have taking it to the dealer for issue. They said was the battery i replace the battery. Still doesn’t fix the issue. Last week we stuck on the hogging in traffic with my family of 5 including children. We came to a stop and it went into idle stop then it when i released brakes the engine didn’t turn back on tell me to shift in park in the middle of the highway. I could have been hit from the rear with this issue especially if you’re stuck in traffic. This issue has been going on a few times thinking it was because of a battery. I replaced my battery twice because that what Honda said is the issue .

The radio goes out on my van and the van shifts into neutral while I'm driving. This has been going on for months I've had it to the Honda dealership twice this last time thay said the only thing they could come up with is that the alternator is losing power but alternator is on back order until June and still no guarantee this will fix the problem since none of there test showed up anything other then they were able to get it to go into neutral for them while they were driving it.

On 2 occasions, the "Auto Engine Idle Stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. The car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. Eventually the car reset itself and I was able to restart the car. After this happened the first time the battery in the vehicle was replaced. The second time this happened the battery was only 2 years old. The manufacturer should fix this problem with a recall.
#11508432 |
Blindspot monitoring, emissions system problem, transmission system problem all come on at the same time when vehicle is motion. Unable to manually shift if needed. A lot of vans had recall, however ours is not on the recall list, but we highly believe it should be due to safety concerns due to transmission failure.

My car would not switch gears quick enough which resulted in a brief stalling when trying to cross traffic. This is just the most recent issues when it comes to faulty gear shifting in this vehicle. if it weren’t for other cars slamming on their brakes, it would have been a bad accident.

The vehicle has a very significant delay in accelerating from a stop or slow roll. Often the delay is up to 2 or 3 seconds and has caused several near misses when attempting to cross traffic. It's inconvenient and more important, a safety problem. Upon research I have discovered it is a wide spread issue among Odysseys in this generation. It seems to be an issue with cars equipped with either the 9 speed or the 10 speed transmission.

I have an 2018 Odyssey Touring that apparently has a problem with the auto-idle stop while driving at slow speeds, many times (2 to 6 times a day) for a few weeks now. It starts with a weird noise (like a loud record scratch) through the speakers, then engine turns off, dash and radio shuts off too and immediately everything turns on again. Car don’t go to park, it stays on drive mode. Sometimes I was able to read different messages on the dashboard or radio about “Collition mitigation system” “anti theft system” and sometimes “loading” appears on the radio screen. This messages disappear quickly. Before this problems happened, the DVD rear screen stopped working (it’s completely black) while the DVD can be heard playing on the speakers. Don’t know if the two issues are related. I'm worried this can cause the car to stop at higher speeds and cause...

On at least 3 occasions, the "Auto Engine Idle Stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. When the car shuts off/dies, the system prompts you to shift the car in park and restart the car, but on these occasions, the car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. I felt very unsafe to be stalled with no way to operate the vehicle. The dealership checked the battery to ensure it wasn't a battery issue and found it to be completely fine. At the time we did not realize that it could be a problem with the Auto Engine Idle Stop feature, otherwise we would've had them check that system specifically. Further research from other customer forums online prompted us to turn this feature off, but we have to do that every time we start the car. There is no way for...

engine reves , no forward movement. Happened the first time on 80/94 east bound (traffic slowed @ 34-36 mph). 4 times now in the last two years. Seems that the speed is always the same when it happens. , into Community Honda, Orland Park, IL . They say no problem . No warning signals. Husband with me the last time it happened Sept. 2, 2022 definately something dangerously wrong.

My wife was waiting outside in our vehicle with our kids while I was running an errand. She stated that she went to move the car and as she put it in reverse, the car rolled forward and automatically engaged itself into park. Then she stated that the van also started sputtering and shaking. She shut it off and got our kids out of the car. When I got back to the car, she was explaining it to me. I then started to troubleshoot by checking for blown fuses, bad battery connections and etc. Everything appeared as it should be. I turned the car on to the accessory mode, and it was throwing almost every code possible if not all of them. It showed emissions system, abs systems, hill start and several others. With the car still in accessory mode, I noticed the radiator fans were not coming on as...

I have taken my Honda to the dealership on multiple occasions, regarding lack of acceleration, after a complete stop. The engine does not engage after pushing the pedal down, so that my vehicle can move. It has a very long delay after coming to a stop. This is a huge safety concern, considering when making a right turn, and perceiving there is enough time to accelerate my vehicle, before another oncoming vehicle, there is a delay a potential accident will occur. This should never happen and my family has been in multiple situations where there was almost an accident. I love my Honda but this safety concern has made me rethink and potentially inform others of this matter. Please help me find a solution to this problem. I even purchased an extended warranty I hopes there may be a solution, but I’m beginning to lose hope. I have a family...

When coming to a stop, usually in stop / go traffic and at times when coming to a complete stop, the auto-idle stop kicks in, but then immediately shuts the engine down and shifts vehicle into park. Vehicle has to be entirely shut down and restarted to bring the engine back. We have been taking the vehicle to the dealership since we bought it a couple of years ago. Seems to be mostly occurring in warm summer months. Also affects the audio entertainment, all sounds stop. And after the most recent repair by the dealership (replacing the tuner), the display screen will not come on for 10-15 min when first starting the vehicle (including the back-up cam and warnings)

I was driving on the freeway at 60mph and the all dashboard notification lights started flickering (lane departure warning, odometer, blind spot warning, etc) and the car went from drive to neutral. This occurred twice while i was on the freeway on 6/6/22. This has also occurred twice before.

Auto restart feature when enabled did not restart vehicle after coming to a stop at stoplight on multiple occasions in the last few months rendering vehicle unable to proceed. We recently saw news article about same issue with Pilots.

In lower gears, there is hesitation when accelerating which causes driver to unknowing lurch forward. Sometimes peeling out. In stop and go traffic, the van does not accelerate for a few seconds when gas pedal is pressed. There is sometimes a clunking sound which causes van to lurch when accelerating at a lower gear which feels like someone has hit my van from behind. It is a safety issue because I don’t know if the van will accelerate or not right away when I press the gas pedal.
#11458846 |
Like many others, I am experiencing hard shifts between the 25-30 mph range. The downshifting is also very hard. While I don’t hear clunking like I do with a gear shift, it will jerk down to a gear that seems too low and almost feels like the brakes are being applied when they are not. The most terrifying issue is the lag time between gas being applied. My engine remains idle and then jolts forward. This has almost caused an accident with oncoming traffic when I am trying to turn left. I beg of you to research this for a possible recall. Since it isn’t a constant issue, Honda says it runs normal and nothing is wrong.

Merging from west bound I-40 to south bound I-15, there was a slight incline. I accelerated to merge and change lane from 4 to 3, the van suddenly lost power. Engine was running and I could hear it rev up but transmission seemed to not have engaged. The car decelerated to almost 50 mph forcing me to move back to lane 4 in order to avoid being hit by an incoming 18-wheeler. It's most likely an transmission issue of old with Honda. The vehicle regained power after I let go of gas pedal for about 4-5 seconds. It happened again on I-40 near Flagstaff at high speed on my way home to Dallas from SoCal on Jan 2nd. To lose available power to wheels at high rate of speed, it's surely a safety hazzard. I don't feel safe to allow my wife to drive the vehicle. Please help investigate.

The engine was making a chirping noise that was heard from within the cabin. The service department of the Honda dealer verified with Honda that the noise was due to a timing belt chirp, per Honda Service Bulletin(SB) 16-054, which applied to the year, make and model of the automobile. The SB indicates that the timing belt idler pulley is too close to the crankshaft pulley, which cause the timing belt to contact the back edge of the crankshaft pulley. This is a 2018 model with less than 14000 miles. The indication is that the belt will fail prematurely, besides making a noise that is quite distracting to the driver. Certainly, this is a design flaw needing the manufacture to recall and fix this well known and common problem with this vehicle.

Car started showing all kind of errors before the milleage waranty went out, one day when car was started, we saw the following errors scroll through the dash: Road Departure mitigation system problem Power Steering System EPS problem VSA Vehicle stability assist problem Hill start assist problem Brake system error Brake Hold system problem Brake system problem I have taken the car in for these issues 3 times at a local dealership and nothing was found as a reason for the issue, they just "rolled" the errors to clear them and that seems to work for a few months. When these errors happen the car is not fully responsive and becomes a safety hazard in my view, not having all the safety features available while driving the car in this error mode is dangerous for me and my family these will happen every once in a while, and the most...

When making left or right turns from completed stops, the car some time hesitates to move or to speed up for short 2-3 seconds. This could cause accident between my car and in coming trafic.
#11438003 |
There is a chirping coming from the engine area with the engine warmed up AND NOW IS RATTLING UNDER NEATH THE VAN
#11437855 |
The transmission stalls and doesn’t shift into different gears or takes a long time to shift while letting the car roll (almost causing accidents as I have no control) The van also rolled back on its own down my driveway while I was trying to park and wouldn’t go into gear until I was able to get a complete stop. The speed is also affected as it will not speed up when Pulling out from a stop And then it will speed too fast which makes it hard to not get hit by traffic going at a steady speed. This is not a one time incident, it’s now a non stop issue every time I drive. This happens at all speeds and now can not drive past 50 mph without the engine revving.

OUR 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE HAS INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. AS CONTEXT, THE CAR ENGINE WILL AUTOMATICALLY STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FULLY STOPPED, FOR EXAMPLE AT A RED LIGHT, AND A FEW OTHER CONDITIONS ARE MET (BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE, BATTERY CHARGE, ELECTRICAL LOAD). OUR VEHICLE WHEN AUTO STOPPED MAY STALL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESUME DRIVING. WHEN THE DRIVER RELEASES THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE CAR FAILS TO AUTO START, OR AUTO STARTS WITH WARNING MESSAGES. WHEN THE CAR FAILS TO START, A VARIETY OF WARNING MESSAGES WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. REMEDIATION VARIES. THE CAR MAY RESPOND TO SHIFTING TO PARK AND PUSHING THE IGNITION START/STOP BUTTON TWICE. AT TIMES, THE CAR MAY NOT RESPOND TO SHIFTING TO PARK AND IGNITION BUTTON ACTIONS. THE ONLY FIX THEN SEEMS TO BE A 'HARD' SHUTOFF THAT REQUIRES OPENING THE DRIVER DOOR AND PUSHING...
