POORLY DESIGNED SEAL AROUND BACK-UP CAMERA HOUSING ALLOWS MOISTURE INTO HOUSING, SENDS FAULTY SIGNAL TO ENGINE WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED AND SHIFTED TO REVERSE ULTIMATELY SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN 100% OF TIME, BUT IT IS CONCERNING. USUALLY OCCURS DURING/AFTER RAIN, SNOW, OR HIGH HUMIDITY DAYS. THIS DESIGN FLAW ALSO DISABLES THE BRAKES, EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND POWER STEERING. VEHICLE DOES NOT TURN ON RIGHT AWAY AND STARTER CONTINUOUSLY CLICKS UNTIL VEHICLE COMPUTER RESPONDS TO START, KEY FAUB IS THE ONLY WAY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER THIS EVENT OCCURS. SOMETIMES THE COMPUTER GETS SO JAMMED UP THAT I MUST COMPLETELY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND HARD RESTART THE COMPUTER. WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURS THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE STOPPED AND WILL CONTINUOUSLY MOVE BACKWARDS UNTIL IT STOPS ON ITS OWN, IT HITS SOMETHING, OR THE VEHICLE CAN BE STARTED AGAIN. THIS DID HAPPEN TO ME...

ON MARCH 26TH, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:40PM MY 2013 FORD FUSION (VIN #[XXX]) CAUGHT FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS OCCURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY A 5 MINUTE DRIVE. THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR OVER 5 HOURS AND ON MY RIDE HOME A LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH SHOWING COOLANT/ENGINE OVERHEATING AND SMOKE BEGAN TO APPEAR FROM THE HOOD (THIS OCCURRED AS I ENTERED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH). I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY SLOWLY AND PULL INTO A GAS STATION. THERE THE CAR CONTINUED TO SMOKE AND A PERSON THERE POINTED UNDERNEATH THE CAR WHERE THE FIRE WAS GOING. IT TOOK TWO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO A RECALL 17S09. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TWICE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. ON 6/22/17 I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO CARMAX TO HAVE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR REPLACED...

ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD RECALL: THE RECALL CAME OUT EARLY IN 2017 STATING THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD MAY CRACK CAUSING AN OIL LEAK THAT MAY RESULT IN A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO KEEP COOLANT LEVEL PROPERLY MAINTAINED WHICH WAS DONE, HOWEVER, THE COOLANT KEPT DISAPPEARING AND GOING INSIDE THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT A YEAR. JUST HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE 3RD OR 4TH TIME NOW. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOOSING COOLANT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BLOCK HEATER JUST ABOUT AS MANY TIMES ALSO. THEY NEVER REALLY SEEM TO BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE ITS COMING FROM AND I'M QUITE CONCERNED THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO ACTUALLY HAVE IT FIGURED OUT. FIRST PROBLEM WAS AT 20,000 MILES, 50,000 MILES, 80,000 MILES AND 131,000 MILES. THERE IS A RECALL FOR COOLANT LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST AND STARTING A FIRE BUT I'M STILL BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THAT ISSUE YET. I WAS NOTIFIED BACK IN MARCH OF 2017 ABOUT THAT ISSUE.

CAR WILL SPORADICALLY GO INTO LIMP HOME MODE WHILE DRIVING. NEVER SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WHILE PARKED OR NOT MOVING. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND LET IT SIT FOR A GOOD 15 TO 20 MINUTES. I CAN THEN START IT BACK UP AND IT RUNS LIKE THERE IS NO PROBLEM. MECHANIC CAN'T FIND THE ISSUE BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARS AND NO ERROR CODE IS GIVEN. HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AND REGULAR CITY STREETS.
