Driving on busy interstate at approximately 55mph there was a sudden loss of acceleration ability and check engine light came on, white smoke coming from exhaust. Car was taken to dealership and diagnosed with bank 1 broken turbocharger turbine wheel, and bank 2 turbocharger turbine wheel damaged requiring replacement of both turbocharger turbine wheels, both catalytic converter assemblies, o2 sensors, tailpipe, flex pipe, gaskets. Estimated repair cost greater than $9000. Mechanic at dealership reports this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Vehicle at 88k miles with routine maintenance and no collisions, similar recall for other years of same make and model
I own a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT with 2.3L Eco Boost. It was recently diagnosed with coolant leaking into the cylinder. I was told there is nothing that can be done about it other than buying a new engine. Since August 2022, this car has had the "check engine" light on and has been to several different mechanics and 2 different Ford dealers before finally being diagnosed. After researching this issuer, I have learned that Ford has known about this issue since 2010 and chosen to do nothing about it. I have been driving this vehicle around, not knowing that this problem could cause the engine to catch on fire, endangering all the lives of my family! Ford should take responsibility for this issue and replace the engine!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #3, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
After purchasing a 2017 Ford Explorer Eco Boost (65K miles) it was only 6 -7 months (yes months) later that I would find myself in a devastating car situation. At exactly 72,000 miles, I discovered my engine would need to be completely replaced. I discovered this after having my vehicle diagnosed at the Ford dealership. Coolant in the #2 and #3 cylinders. The dealership said it would cost $9500 for a new motor. I just bought the car! After searching the internet, I am finding more and more people are having the same problems, and some are prone to engine fire! I have children! There is already law suite against the Ford Company, But I try to do the right thing, I called Ford Motor Company to report my problem. Case No. CAS-39543003-F9S9T0 CRM:040000805. They said they would look into it. My hopes were up. I received a call, They...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact inspected under the hood and noticed that the spark plugs were crossed in the engine. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the spark plugs to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
No warning lights, took vehicle in for clicking noise - diagnosed ball joint repair. Also Ford dealers tells me my water pump is leaking and repair will cost over $3,500. I have read that this is a common problem and I would like to report it.
I took my Vehicle in because the AC stop blowing cold air, and the overheating lights kept coming on. After waiting for a week, I was told it was a water pump but that did not fixed the AC being at all, couple days later I got a call from the dealership (GRAPEVINE FORD) that the compressor went out. After 3 weeks of waiting, I end up paying out of pocket what is supposed to be covered based of this letter I received from FORD. I feel like I should not have to pay for something that FORD should have covered. Letter below explained the very issues I had with the vehicle, including OVERHEATING and damages like bad cooling relay would cause.
Carbon monoxide leaking into my car—tailgate area and through the front hvac. Weird sound from engine that sounds and smells like electrical burning or something overheating.
Ford Eco Boost Coolant Intrusion Issues. If the car sits an idles the coolant light will come on an say the coolant is too hotIf I run the air conditioning it will do the say, or drive it on the freeway. There are no leaks, no were. And you can smell the coolant, it smells really hot. My engine line is on.
Transmission is giving out has turned off while driving and sometimes it won't go reverse and Or won't go into gears Machine shows code p0731
Water pump failed and coolant leaked into the engine
I have a 2017 Ford Explorer with a 2.3 EcoBoost Four-Cylinder with 59k mileage. Back in November of 2021 My Ford dealership said Coolant is leaking into the Cylinder head causing the car to misfile after a check engine light diagnoses. This causes the car to overheat and can cause major issues. Now i need my entire engine replaced. I have a read that this a know issue in other Ford SUVs in but not in a Ford Explorers, however I have the same engine type. This is a problem for the Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder engines produced since 2010.
INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH
car stops an air-conditioned Bell Brooking due to bearing inside a clutch on the AC compressor !! I was on the highway and the car just stops I almost got hit from behind
About a week ago I started smelling coolant after shutting down the engine, took the vehicle to my mechanic and was informed that the water pump is going bad.
While driving at highway speeds the vehicle lost power due to a main crankshaft bearing failure. The vehicle was repaired at a Ford Dealer and was not under warranty at the time. I was forced to pull off the road due to the loss of power while travelling on a busy highway creating an unsafe emergency situation. There was no warning lights or warnings of any given before the engine failure. It simply lost power and stopped working.
Initially the cars check engine light came on intermittently for about 3 days, then one day while driving the wrench light came on and the car immediately started decelerating - almost as if I was breaking hard, and would not accelerate over 30. After turning it on and off multiple times the light went away for days until my appointment with the mechanic, that same day it came back on. We went to a Ford dealership and they said it was the throttle body and repaired it. Two weeks later the same issue occurred. I know this was a big issue in 2016 and earlier models, I believe the problem was never fixed in 2017 models. Our car is currently in the shop and they are "emailing Ford" about what to do. The first incident I was on the interstate when I stopped abruptly and the second was on the...
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I have been experiencing the smell of gas/exhaust leaking into the cabin. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I am concern with the health issues that this smell could put my family and I in. Specially if theirs a possibility that carbon monoxide could be leaking into the cabin. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? I had the vehicle inspected by Ford but they advise that they couldn’t reproduce the smell. They also advice that their were a two drain plugs missing in the lift gate which would resolve the issue if replaced. I have replaced the two missing plugs and continue to experience the issue....
47k miles. 2.3L Eco-Boost. Rough idle, vibration/shaking sometimes at start, slow acceleration, Engine Coolant High Temp light came on for a minute while driving, Check Engine light came on after another rough start (stayed on) took it to Ford for service, they said several misfires, coolant in cylinders, and now possibly a blown head gasket. Waiting for word from Ford service dept, may need an engine replacement. Thankfully, covered by warranty, for now.
‘17 Explorer with 32,000 miles on it, bought new from dealership and have kept up with all recommended maintenance to vehicle and have went above and beyond to keep it in pristine condition but started experiencing coolant dripping from internal water pump this May ‘21. Last year Jan ‘20 was repaired for faulty clock spring and again in March of ‘21. Same issue. No longer under bumper to bumper warranty so became out of pocket expense. This year alone, it’s been out of service for two weeks already.
Recall has been issued on the ford explorer for smell of exhaust in the cabin. I have had the recall inspected and completed in 2019. I am now smelling the exhaust again upon acceleration. I told the dealership I have always been able to smell the exhaust even after they "fixed" the issue the first time. It just wasn't as bad. The smell is much worse now.
THE VEHICLE HAD LOOSE K MEMBER BOLTS, BENT STRUTS, LOOSE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS WAS FOUND WHEN WE TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE
MY 2017 FORD EXPLORER WITH 62,000 MILES SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER AND I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND. I LIMPED INTO A REST AREA WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER. THE FORD DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A MAIN BEARING FAILURE. THE CAR NOW REQUIRES A NEW ENGINE THAT WILL COST $6700 DOLLARS AND FORD HAS DENIED TO PROVIDE ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 62,000 MILES ON IT.
THE WATER PUMP LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE OIL AND WILL COST OVER $3,000.00 TO FIX. THE FORD EXROPLER ENGINE DESIGN WITH THE WATER PUMP IN THE ENGINE IS A CASH TRAP FOR CONSUMERS. THE DESIGN IS HORRIBLE.
EXPLORER TRUCK STARTED LEAKING COOLANT FROM WATER PUMP. IN PARKED POSITION A PUDDLE STARTED TO FORM UNDER IT.
MY 3 YR OLD TRUCK ALREADY HAS A LEAKING COOLANT LINE WHICH COME TO FIND OUT IS DRAINING INTO THE WATER LINE IN THE ENGINE. I CAN'T DRIVE MORE THAN 5MILES BEFORE I NEED TO REFILL MY COOLANT. IN ADDITION, THE HEATING ELEMENTS IN BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS HAS GONE OUT. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUSE AND OF COURSE ITS SOMETHING MORE.

SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXPLORER. THERE WAS A NOISE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE A/C IS RUNNING AND GIBBONS FORD TRIED TO FIX IT SEVERAL TIMES. THEY TIGHTENED A HEAT SHIELD TWICE. REPLACED THE IDLER AND BELT 3 TIMES AND FINALLY CHANGED THE A/C COMPRESSOR. ALSO THE HOOD BUBBLED AND THEY REPLACED THE HOOD AND REPAINTED IT. THERE ALSO WAS A TRANSMISSION LEAK AND THE ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY ENDED UP BUYING THE VEHICLE BACK DUE TO THE ONGOING UNRESOLVED ISSUES.
RE: 2017 FORD EXPLORER. CAR DYING OUT ON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. A SCARY THING HAPPENED ON RT #619 TODAY IN HARTVILLE. THAT IS, THE CAR DIED OUT HALFWAY OUT ONTO THE ROADWAY, IT PAUSES FOR SOME SECONDS WHERE THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOTHING. THEN IT PICKS UP BY ITSELF. THE THROTTLE DOES NOTHING. NONE OF THESE ACTIONS ARE DESIRABLE. THESE BEHAVIORS PUT US IN GREAT DANGER. SO LET'S SEE, THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE MORNING I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (MONDAY 01-06-2020). AND, IT HAPPENED ONCE THE 2ND DAY BACK TO ME ON FRIDAY 01-31-2019. BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN FOR YOU IN THE 4 WEEKS YOU HAD IT TO TEST. AMAZING ISN'T IT? WELL, I THINK I'M GOING TO GO ALONG WITH THE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE THAT REPORT THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCE. IN MY CAR, IT'S BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. I DO BELIEVE FORD...

VISIBILITY REDUCED TO ZERO THROUGH THIS WINDOW. FAILURE OCCURRED AT 37.8K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. REPAIR COST $1,722.00 TO OWNER.

MAY 29TH 2019 I WENT INTO HEALEY FORD IN GOSHEN NY AFTER NEARLY 4 WEEKS OF HAVING HUGE PLUMES OF WHITE SMOKE POURING OUT OF MY EXHAUST PIPES EVERY TIME I PUSHED ON THE GAS OR STOPPED. IT DIDN'T MATTER IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR A CITY STREET THE ISSUE STILL OCCURED. THE SMELL WOULD PERMIATE THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF MY CAR. WE ALREADY HAD THE RECALL FIXED FOR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM CYCLING BACK INTO THE CAR SO THIS IS ALARMING. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS THE WEEKS PASSED AND THE PLUMES BECAME THICKER AND VERY SMELLY. WHEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM THEY TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP. ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER TAKING IT BACK INTO THE SHOP THE SERVICE MANAGER CAME BACK TO ME AND SAID THAT HE AND 2 OTHER TECHS PERSONALLY ENDED UP LOOKING AT IT AND AGREE THEY BELIEVE IT IS THE TURBO. I...
THE CAR LURCHES FOR THE FIRST 40-50 FEET AT SLOW SPEEDS WHILE APPLYING MINIMAL PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT HAPPENS THE INITIAL TIME PUTTING IT IN DRIVE AFTER EACH ENGINE START, REGARDLESS OF PUTTING IT IN REVERSE FIRST OR NOT. IT USED TO ONLY HAPPEN AFTER EVERY FEW STARTS, BUT HAS PROGRESSED TO EVERY SINGLE TIME NOW AND SOME CAN BE VERY AGGRESSIVE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE ISSUE 5 TIMES NOW, WITH THE 5TH TIME RESULTING IN THEM SAYING IT IS A "NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE, WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS CAUSING IT. I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE "DOESN'T KNOW WHY IT IS DOING IT, BUT IT'S NORMAL." HE THEN PROCEEDED TO COMPARE THE CHARACTERISTIC TO SOMEONE POORLY RELEASING THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL VEHICLE AND AGAIN, STILL CLAIMING THAT EVERYTHING IS PERFECTLY NORMAL.
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AS I PULLED OFF HIGHWAY. FOUND SERP BELT FRAGMENTS IN ENGINE BAY. WAS TOLD BELT WAS AGED AND FAILED. BELT IS ORIGINAL WITH 23,500 MILES AND 3 YEARS OLD. BELT AREA COVERED UNDERNEATH FROM ROAD DEBRIS. DRY OUT, NO COLLISION WITH ROAD DEBRIS
