INITIAL ISSUES WAS AN ISSUES ACCELERATING. WHEN ACCELERATING TO 3000 RPM, THE RPMS WOULD SUDDENLY DROP BACK TO 2 AND THE CAR WOULD LURCH. STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WHEN SLOWLY DECELERATING LIKE GEARS WOULD NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY. WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WITH A GRIND AND THE WRENCH DASH LIGHT CAME ON.
THIS TRUCK HAS HAD ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT IT LIKE 5 MONTHS AGO FROM CARMAX WITHIN THAT TIME I REALLY ONLY HAD IT A MONTH REST OF TIME IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP I BOUGHT WITH 26K MILES FROM CARMAX ALREADY HAD REBUILT ENGINE BREAKS ROADERS STILL HAVE ENGINE ISSUES NOW TODAY BELT BROKE AND NEEDS TO BE TOWED I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE DO MANY ISSUES WITH A NEW TRUCK NOT MENTION IF YOU DO NOT SHUT THE TRUNK HARD IT WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY SINCE IT KEEPS THE LIGHTS ON IN THE TRUCK ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE DAY ONE AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD I FEEL THIS TRUCK IS NOT RELIABLE AND UNSAFE AT TIMES. NOT WORTH THE 26000 I PAID FOR IT. PLUS THE SENSORS GO OFF FOR NO REASON AND NOTHING IS AROUND.
THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED WITH A WEIRD NOISE, SLOW ACCELERATION DESPITE A RACING ENGINE AND THEN TOTAL FAILURE. THE EXPLORER ONLY HAS ABOUT 60,000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL WHEN THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND THEN LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO JUST MAKE IT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL. I PULLED OVER PUT IT PARK AND THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE AND WAS ABLE DRIVE HOME. HOWEVER, NOW THE CAR HAS NO REVERSE. A TRANSMISSION REBUILD/REPLACEMENT NEEDED.
MY FAMILY AND I WERE AT A A GAS STATION ABOUT TO GET ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY FORD EXPLORER STARTED TO STALL. I PULLED TO THE SIDE AND TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON. THIS ACTION SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, AFTER THAT DAY (4 MONTHS AGO) THE FORD EXPLORER HAS BEEN STALLING EVERY TIME I START IT AND START TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY. IT WILL LOSE SPEED WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND WILL STALL FOR THE FIRST MINUTE OR SO BEFORE RESUMING BACK TO NORMALS I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY AS IT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL. ADDITIONALLY, AFTER STALLING I WILL GET THE WRENCH SYMBOL ON MY DASH.
OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT LOST POWER GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL RIGHT BEFORE OUR HOUSE AND BARELY MADE IT HOME. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGED TO BRING IT THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE DRIVETRAIN IS UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. OUR VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD WITH SLIGHTLY OVER 60,000 MILES AND WE ALSO PURCHASED THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY FOR 100,000 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR OF A TRANSMISSION TEAR DOWN WHICH TAKES 18 HRS AND $2,000 IN LABOR BEFORE WE CAN FIND OUT IF THE WARRANTY WILL COVER THE ISSUE. WE HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE HEATED/COOLED SEATS, THE AIR BAGS, THE PARKING ASSIST, AND STEERING. WE DID NOT SPEND ALL THIS MONEY FOR A NEWER VEHICLE(WAS 2 YRS OLD WHEN PURCHASED) JUST TO HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES THAT WILL END UP...
MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 91,000 MILES ON IT. HOWEVER, FOR THE LAST 45,000 MILES, I HAVE NOTICED A JERKING IN THE TRANSMISSION ONCE I REACH ABOVE 40MPH. MY MOTHER HAS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER AND HAD THE SAME ISSUES. SHE HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO SHE WAS ABLE TO HAVE HERS FIXED BUT HAD TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY FIX... THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO QUIRK FORD (540 SOUTHERN ARTERY, QUINCY, MA 02169 (617) 770-0070) WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO REFERRED CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT WHEN DRIVING AT AN INCLINE. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE WAS LEVEL THERE WERE NO OVERHEATING ISSUES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING DUE TO THE GRILL SHUTTERS BEING STUCK CLOSED AND AS A RESULT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND NEEDED A PARTIAL REBUILD. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ELIGIBLE FOR CERTAIN REPAIRS UNDER THE WARRANTY, MILEAGE 58,120, SO FORD COVERED THE PARTIAL TRANSMISSION REBUILD AS THEY DETERMINED WAS FIT. THE GRILL SHUTTERS MALFUNCTIONING AND BEING STUCK CLOSED WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE MALFUNCTION WAS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND OVERHEATING OF THE VEHICLE. REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED IN MAY 2019. IN NOVEMBER 2019 AND APPROX. 2K MILES OUT OF WARRANTY AND JUST SLIGHTLY 2K MORE MILES SINCE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILD AND GRILL SHUTTER REPLACEMENT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AGAIN. THE...

OUT NO WERE FELT LIKE A JOLTING; SUDDEN STALLING; SUDDEN DECELERATION; SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUT THE SUV IN PARK. ATTEMPTED A RESTART, IT WORK. THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE AND MY VEHICLE'S RPM DROPS, REGARDLESS IF I AM PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. MOST NOTABLY OCCURS WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, BUT HAS HAPPENED DRIVING WITHIN CITY LIMITS. I HAVE TO PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL AND WAIT FOR THE VEHICLE TO EVENTUALLY PICK UP SPEED OR SHIFT GEAR TO NEUTRAL TO DRIVE TO BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE VEHICLE GOING LIMP MODE, ESPECIALLY ON A FREEWAY. THIS HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY 2-3 TIMES IN A 1 HOUR DRIVING PERIOD. FORD EXPLOER 2016 AT LOW SPEED EXCELARATOR STICK AND ENGINE REVES UP TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. MUST PUT TRANSMISSION IN NUTRAL TO STOP AUTO FROM MOVING FWD. HAPPENED 3 TIMES SEPERATE DAYS. HAD TO PUT TRANSMISSION IN NUTURAL TO GET AUTO UNDER CONTROL.
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IN A PARKING LOT, TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, AND THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS IN THE "PARK" POSITION, THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD (SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL). THE VEHICLE ROLLED APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES UNTIL THE FRONT TIRES MET WITH THE PARKING CURB. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD NOT BEEN APPLIED AT THE TIME. THE GRADE OF SLOPE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3-6DEGREES. THE REAR HATCH WAS OPEN, AND TWO ADULTS WERE SITTING IN THE BACK WITH THEIR FEET ON THE GROUND WHEN THE VEHICLE ROLLED. IT WAS APPARENT, THAT THE TRANSMISSION "SLIPPED", WHILE IN PARK, WHEN IT SHOULD NOT "SLIP".

AT 80,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACE (OUT OF WARRANTY). REQUIRE NEW BATTERY AND CABLES AFTER BATTER "EXPLODED" CORRODING THE BATTERY CABLES. (68,000 MILES). REQUIRED A NEW WATER PUMP AT 86,000 MILES.

WITH NO WARNING - EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ALSO THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE THAT SAID "SEE MANUAL." I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFICE AND PULL OVER. AFTER TEN MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK OFF. FROM THERE IT DROVE BEAUTIFULLY LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED - EXCEPT THAT IT DID ! FOUR DAYS LATER, I TAKE IT TO THE DEALORSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT THIS HAPPENED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND IT'S GOING TO COST ME $380. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WITH THE SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS AT THE DEALORSHIP WHEN THEY SOLD ME THE CAR. PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED ON JUNE 3, 2016 WITH ABOUT 10,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 PAST PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT ABOUT 9:30 AM AT ABOUT 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN FROM A COLD START FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. IT WAS RAINING MODERATELY. THE BACKUP CAMERA SUDDENLY APPEARED ON THE SCREEN IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD DRIVE INDICATOR, WHICH NORMALLY IS LIT RED WHEN IN DRIVE, WAS WHITE, AS WERE ALL THE OTHER INDICATORS (R, N, ETC). I JIGGLED THE SHIFTER WITHOUT PRESSING THE SHIFTER BUTTON BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO BE STILL IN DRIVE SINCE THE CAR STILL HAD POWER AND WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS AND THEN THE DISPLAY RETURNED TO NORMAL AND THE D INDICATOR RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL RED MODE. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER...

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ~78 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO SHIFT INTO A LOW GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY DECELERATE AND THE ENGINE TO REV TO MATCH THE SET SPEED. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED FROM 78 TO ABOUT 40 AS IF I HAD SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. AFTER STOPPING AND TALKING WITH MY DEALER HE RECOMMENDED TO CONTINUE AS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS APPEARED ON THE CAR. I CONTINUED ON THE ROAD AT A MUCH REDUCED SPEED. AFTER A SHORT DISTANCE THE VEHICLE AGAIN SELF SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR WITH THE ENGINE RPM'S SHOWING APPROXIMATELY 3000 AT ABOUT 55 MPH. DEALER IS INSTALLING A NEW TRANSMISSION BUT CAN NOT IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT GEARS ON ITS OWN.
I RECEIVED A "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT" ALERT WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, AND IMMEDIATELY HAD A LOSS OF POWER AND VERY SLOW ACCELERATION AFTER STOPPING. UPON REACHING MY HOME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE UP A SMALL INCLINE IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" CAME ON AND THERE IS NOW A LOUD METALLIC CLANG WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 13, 655 MILES ON IT. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY WILL HAVE A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER IN THE MORNING FOR TESTING..

INTERIOR OF CAR BEGAN TO SMELL OF BURNING OIL, WARNING MESSAGE "4WD TEMPORARILY DISABLED". LEAK FROM VENT HOSE INTO PTU SYSTEM. FORD (SANTA ROSA, CA) SAYS PTU MUST BE REPLACED. 37K MILES ON CAR.
THE ENGINE WILL STALL AND THE CAR WILL BUCK/SHAKE AND ALMOST DIE WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR FOR SEVERAL HOURS TAKES 1-2 MINUTES TO JERK/SHAKE AND THEN WILL RUN FINE. TWICE THE WRENCH ICON HAS COME ON IN THE DASH. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES NOW TO BE FIXED. THEY WERE ABLE TO VALIDATE WHAT HAPPENED, AS IT HAPPENED TO THEM BUT SAID THAT THE CAR'S COMPUTER DID NOT GENERATE ANY CODES SO THEY ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE/REPAIR.

SAME ISSUE AS NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11042260. AT 7,000 MILES WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES INTO REVERSE WE HEAR A LOUD THUMPING SOUND AS THOUGH YOU RAN OVER SOMETHING. THIS IS HAPPENS MORE WHEN REVERSING WITH A TURN THAN STRAIGHT BUT SELDOM WHILE BACKING STRAIGHT OUT AS WELL. AT 7,500 MILE SERVICE THE ISSUE WAS BOUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP, THE TECH DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY RDU (REAR DRIVE UNIT) WHICH WAS PLACED ON ORDER. THE DEALER HAS NOT YET RESPONDED TO THE STATUS OF THE PART WHICH HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH! YET THE DEALERSHIP ASKED US WHY WE RATED THE UNSATISFACTORY! AT THIS POINT IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS WOULD SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS NOT YET BEEN INSTALLED.

POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED UNDER HIGH SPEED ON A 4 LANE ROAD. WE WERE ALMOST KILLED BY BEING REAR-ENDED TRAFFIC AS VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, ENGINE OFF, AND COMPLETELY DEAD. NOT ABLE TO STEER OR BRAKE. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 12,854 ACTUAL MILES. PLEASE FIX THIS BEFORE OTHERS ARE KILLED AND/OR MAIMED.

2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT WAS GREAT UNTIL I HIT 17,680 MILES. TRANSMISSION WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ENGINE/WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH AND I BASICALLY CRAWLED TO THE DEALERSHIP. VERY SCARY WHEN STOPPED, PUT THE PEDAL TO FLOOR AND WOULD BARELY MOVE. AFTER A FEW DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT APPEARED TO BE THE CLUTCH AND THEY REPLACED IT. GOT IT BACK AND TWO DAYS LATER, IT DID IT AGAIN. DROVE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD IT FOR A DAY, BUT COULDN'T GET IT TO DO IT, SO I GOT IT BACK. TWO DAYS LATER, IT HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE SERVICE "WRENCH" WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (NORTHTOWN FORD IN MENOMONIE, WI) WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE SAME DEALER REPLACED THE RETAINING CLIP, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT MADE THE MANUFACTURER AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND REQUESTED A BUY-BACK. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUES DID NOT WARRANT A BUY-BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,000.
ON 6/28/2016 THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A LOSS OF CONTROL ACCIDENT DUE TO DRIVER BECOMING UNCONSCIOUS. THE DRIVER AND ALL PASSENGERS BECAME UNCONSCIOUS NEARLY SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE ORIGINAL ASSUMPTION WAS THAT THE DRIVER FELL ASLEEP, ALTHOUGH SHE DID NOT REMEMBER FEELING DROWSY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON I-85, MP 18 NORTH OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. SINCE SEEING THE REPORT TODAY ABOUT POSSIBLE CO LEAKAGE INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN ON THE FORD EXPLORER VEHICLES, I WOULD NOW SUSPECT THIS AS A POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN THIS ACCIDENT...UPDATED 08/07/17 *BF *CN
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY YESTERDAY AND THE CAR COULDN'T BE MOVED WITH THE GAS PEDAL. I COASTED TO THE NEXT EXIT, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND BACK ON AND IT WORKED AGAIN. TODAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED, BUT THIS TIME IT DIDN'T WORK AGAIN. I HAD ADAC (HERE IN GERMANY) COME AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THEY RESET THE "SYSTEM" AND FOLLOWED ME TO MY FORD CAR GARAGE SHOP.
SMELL EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE CABIN OF VEHICLE. EXPOSURE TO CARBON MONOXIDE CONCERN. HAPPENS DURING FULL ACCELERATION AND DRIVING UPHILL AND WITH A/C UNIT ON.NOTICED UPON LEASE RECEPTION. FORD REPLACED EXHAUST SYSTEM BUT NOT HELPED, ACTUALLY NOW WORSE. ONGOING ISSUE UNRESOLVED.
THROTTLE BODY HAS FAILED TWICE. FIRST TIME AT 7275 ODOMETER; SECOND OCCURRED AT A BIT OVER 16,000 MILES. FAILURE OF THIS PART RESULTS IN NO THROTTLE RESPONSE TO THE ENGINE AND A MAXIMUM OF ABOUT 10MPH SPEED. LUCKILY, BOTH TIMES, I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE OR OTHER HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY. BOTH INSTANCES WERE IN MOTION AT 35-45 MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM IS TO SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND WAIT FOR 1-5 MINUTES; THEN BE PREPARED FOR NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WITHIN A FEW MILES.
THE TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUGS WERE LOOSE. THE VEHICLE HAS 5064 MILES. I HAD BEEN NOTICING AN ODOR AND THOUGHT I HAD A COOLANT LEAK. BUT THE SMELL WAS NOT "SWEET" ENOUGH. I CRAWLED UNDER THE CAR AFTER A 700 MILE TRIP BECAUSE THE ORDER WAS VERY PREVALENT. I NOTICE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON ONE OF THE TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUGS. THERE WAS A PLUME OF TRANSMISSION FLUID GOING FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE BACK OF THE CAR. SOME OF THE FLUID HAD CONTACTED THE EXHAUST COMPONENTS. I CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL ( FLAT SURFACE, ENGINE HOT AND RUNNING) AND THE FLUID DID NOT EVEN CONTACT THE DIP STICK. I THEN WENT TO SEE IF THE PLUG(S) WAS LOOSE. IT IS A 11MM. I WAS ABLE TO GET 2.5 TURNS ON THE PLUG USING JUST MY FINGERS. ON THE SECOND PLUG I WAS ABLE TO GET 1 FULL TURN WITH JUST MY FINGERS....
