MY CAR WILL STOP WHILE I AM DRIVING IT.. THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON THE CAR SHAKES AND THE LIGHT FLASH... THIS IS DANGEROUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. AFTER SHIFTING INTO THE PARK POSITION, THE DISPLAY INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER OPERATE IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO WILLIS FORD(15 NORTH DUPONT BLVD, SMYRNA, DE) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BUSHING THAT CONNECTED THE SHIFT CABLE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000. *TT CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT BACK ON, NONETHELESS IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL REGISTERING THAT IT WA "ON" AND IN REVERSE. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WHILE DRIVING, MY CAN STALLED OUT, THEN UPON EXITING ONTO A HIGHWAY THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. TOOK IT IN TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO CAUSE MY CAR TO NOT ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND WITHIN 3 WEEKS MY CAR, AGAIN WHILE DRIVING STALLED OUT AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS SCARY BECAUSE I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE AND I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. THIS REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME OVER $1,100 TO FIX. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW FORD IS GOING TO FIX THIS AS IT SEEMS TO BE A ISSUE FOR MANY FORD OWNERS AND THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION GOING ON FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM.
A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT FORUMS, YET FORD HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS. MY CAR, IN A FASHION IDENTICAL TO THE 140,000 ESCAPES WITH THE 2.0L ENGINES, STALLS SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. IT DOES THIS RANDOMLY, REPEATEDLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING. I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE SO FAR AND HAVE HAD THE STALLING OCCUR ONLY IN LOW SPEED SITUATIONS BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE STALLED AT HIGH SPEEDS. MY CAR IS A 1.6L AND WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I'VE HAD THE POWER CONTROL MODULE REPLACED BUT THAT HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. HOW MANY MORE ACCIDENTS ARE REQUIRED BEFORE ALL VEHICLES WILL BE FIXED? THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY ILLUMINATE PREVENTING DEALERS FROM PULLING THE ERROR CODES AND SAFELY AND EFFICIENTLY RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING GIVEN THE DANGER...
WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, IT SER ME LIKE IT IS NOT RUNNING RIGHT, AND THINK IT IS GOING TO DIE ON US IN TRAFFIC. THE FRONT SEAT BELT DOES NOT GO BACK IN THE AREA WHERE IT BELONGS AND SITS ON THE FRONT SEAT. THE PASSENGER DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE RIGHT WHEN YOU OPEN IT. IT WILL STAY OPEN UNTIL YOU PUSH THE HANDLE DOWN AND THEN IT WILL CLOSE AND LOCK. WE ARE AFRAID TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCE WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE CAR ACTS AND RUN. WE JUST WANT IT FIX OR REPLACE VEHICLE.
STARTING IN MAY 2018, COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON, I REPLACED FLUID. SINCE THEN IT HAS BECOME A CONSTANT. I TOOK IT TO 2 DEALERS THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. I OUT A LARGE CARDBOARD UNDER CAR & THE LEAKAGE IS VERY OBVIOUS. I PUT ALMOST A GALLON OF COOLANT IN VEHICLE IN ONE MONTH. GOT IN TOUCH WITH FORD, THEY SAID CONTACT YOU & GO TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER FOR ANOTHER INSPECTION OF LEAK. FORD ALSO SAID THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS MODEL BUT OTHER MODELS OF 2013 & 2014 HAVE THIS PROBLEM & THEY ARE THE SAME TYPE OF CAR.
HAD TO REBUILD TRANSMISSION AND LOST POWER STEERING . THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK ALSO
VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY "HIGH TEMPERATURE, PLEASE STOP" AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD RISE TO THE TOP WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF DRIVING. AFTER DISPLAYING MESSAGE, ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER AND VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ON DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS. COOLANT LEVELS ARE AT CORRECT LEVEL. AFTER SHOUTING DOWN THE ENGINE, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD GO BACK TO THE MIDDLE. THIS BECAME MORE FREQUENT, AND AS OF DECEMBER 6, 2018 THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WITHOUT THIS MESSAGE AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP.
I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND MY VEHICLE STALLED AND SUDDENLY DIED WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, IT WOULD WORK NORMALLY, AND DO THIS SPORADICALLY. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
VEHICLE WAS ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO A FREEWAY, SPEEDING UP, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED AROUND 30 MPH. IT TOOK AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR IT TO GET UP TO A SAFE MERGING SPEED, BUT I COULD HAVE DIED TRYING TO MERGE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE POWER TRAIN ON THIS CAR.
DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING IN A 40 MPH ZONE, ABOUT 1.5 MILES, WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAD SHOT UP TO H FOR HOT. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN, REGARDLESS OF PRESSING THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF A US HIGHWAY AND FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PARK JUST A SHORT DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER.
MY INFO LIGHT CAME ON IN CAR SAYING MY ENGINE COOLANT WAS LOW. I FILLED IT 10 DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC BECAUSE THERE WERE NO LEAKS UNDER MY CAR SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THE COOLANT COULD BE GOING TO. THE MECHANIC PRINTED OUT A RECALL SHEET FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM AND TOLE ME I SHOULD CALL THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER. I CALLED AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THAT PROBLEM. THE RECALL COVERS MY CAR MODEL, ENGINE SIZE, AND MANUFACTURED DATE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING AS THE SERVICE CENTER. THE FIRST RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T INCLUDE MY CARS MANUFACTURED DATE, BUT 3 MONTHS LATER THE RECALL WAS UPDATED TO INCLUDE MORE CARS AND MY MANUFACTURED DATE WAS THEN INCLUDED.
I AM CONTACTING YOU REGARDING MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE, VIN: [XXX]. WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND ALSO CAUSING ME TO BE STRANDED IN ANOTHER STATE. I EVENTUALLY HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO VALVOLINE IN NORTH READING, MA WHERE THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN FLUSHED LESS THAN A WEEK BEFOREHAND. THEY HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO AAMCO WHO DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 39,200 MILES ON IT AND NOW NEEDS A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. CAR HAD PROBLEMS SHIFTING. TRANSFER CASE WAS REPLACED. AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS, THE CAR HAD PROBLEMS SHIFTING AGAIN. A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WARNING CAME ON THE SCREEN AND THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT. THE SHIFTING PROBLEM OCCURRED COMING OUT OF PARK AND THEN BETWEEN 2 AND 3 GEAR. THEN, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT PAST 3RD OR 4TH GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WARNING CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE GOING 50MPH. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES FROM HOME AND ALMOST DIDN'T MAKE IT.
STALLS RANDOMLY AT LOW RPM, SEEMINGLY IT'S SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS RECALL 14S17 WHICH WAS FOR THE LARGER 2.0 MOTOR. VEHICLE HESITATES AND STALLS AND WONT START EASILY. THIS HAPPENED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER 6MONTH PERIOD. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES

THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED, THE RPMS INCREASED, THE VEHICLE JERKED UNCONTROLLABLY, AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION'S COMPUTER CODE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEE THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATE TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL BACK. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT AND THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT...
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT A STOP LIGHT ON A TWO LANE ROAD.

IN ADDITION, WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND; HOWEVER, THE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. HOSE CLAMP RUBBED HOLE IN AC LINE WAS REPAIRED AT DEALERSHIP AND IS DOING IT AGAIN. CAR IS LEAKING COOLANT AFTER BEING TESTED AT DEALERSHIP CAR KEEPS LEAKING COOLANT HAVE TO KEEP PUTTING COOLANT IN CAR EVERY OTHER DAY NO LEAK IS BEING SEEM RECALLS HAVE BEEN DONE FOR THIS ISSUE BUT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR THEN THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND SAID LOW COOLANT THEN THE CAR JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OR THE ROAD 4 DAYS AFTER GETTING CAR TESTED AND COOLANT ADDED TO THE CAR. ONE OF THE HOSE CLAMS RUBBED A HOLE IN THIS AC LINE THAN I STARTED HAVING COOLANT PROBLEMS REPLACED AC LINE AT DEALERSHIP FOR IT TO BE RUBBING HOLE IN LINE AGAIN. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP AGAIN.
CAR STARTED AND I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHERE IT THEN STOPPED. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STARTED THE CAR BACK UP, AND IT STARTED NORMALLY. I DROVE TO GET MY OIL CHANGED WHERE THEY ALSO FILLED UP ALL MY FLUIDS. THE NEXT DAY MY CAR SHUDDERED WHEN IT STARTED BUT STILL WAS ABLE TO RUN. 2 DAYS LATER MY CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE LOW LEVEL COOLANT INDICATOR CAME ON. 30 MINS LATER MY CAR WAS ABLE TO START BUT MY COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW.
PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO A TREE DAMAGING THE LIFTGATE, REAR BUMPER AND EXHAUST COMPONENTS. THE FORD RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE COVERED FORD ESCAPE 2013 MODELS MANUFACTURED IN THEIR LOUISVILLE, KY PLANT BETWEEN MAY 2013 AND SEPTEMBER 2013. MY FORD ESCAPE WAS BUILT IN APRIL 2013. I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHAT CHANGED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS BETWEEN APRIL AND MAY THAT WOULD EXCLUDE MY VEHICLE FROM THE RECALL.
ENTERING THE HIGHWAY I SPEED UP TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. I GET TO ABOUT 45 MPH AND LOOSE ACCELERATION POWER. WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING BUT HAVING NO ACCELERATION A STRONG THUD HAPPENED. SEEMED LIKE THE GEARS FINALLY CAUGHT...BUT STILL NO ACCELERATION AND THEN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO ALMOST 8000 RPM...AND STILL NO ACCELERATION. I MANAGED TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND TURNED IT OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO OTHER TIMES (ONE TIME IT ALSO STALLED COMPLETELY). EACH TIME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THE DEALER CAN TELL ME. IT SEEMS TO "REMEDY" ITSELF AFTER EACH PAID SCAN. THE VEHICLE SCAN DOESN'T SHOW ANYTHING. I'M VERY TIRED OF PAYING FOR SCANS THAT SHOW NOTHING. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN MY OWN CAR.

A LOANER VEHICLE WAS PROVIDED BY MCGRATH FORD (4001 1ST AVE SE, CEDAR RAPIDS, IA 52402, (319) 366-4000, 319-364-0181) AS OF AUGUST 27, 2018. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
131,000 MILES TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND AS OF 7/15/2018 TRANSMISSION IS GONE THIS SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON WITH THE 1.6 LITER ENGINE I HAD TAKEN IT IN WHEN IT STARTED TO SLIP AND FORD DEALER SHIP STARTED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT UNTIL WARRANTY WAS UP AND TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY OUT NOW I'M STUCK WITH A LOAN AND A VEHICLE I CANNOT DRIVE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THEY CHANGED THE MOTOR AND TRANNY 3 TIMES IN 2013 VERY DISSATISFIED SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS
POP-UP MESSAGES ON CONSOLE: "TRANSMISSION FAULT. SERVICE NOW. REDUCING POWER TO REDUCE ENGINE TEMPERATURE." ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NOT A PERCEPTIBLE DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. RESULTS FROM DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR: "IT APPEARS THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS SLIPPING INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANS OVER TEMP LIGHT IS COMING ON AS A RESULT OF THE CONVERTER SLIPPING, SO ULTIMATELY IT WILL NEED THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. I KNOW YOU ARE JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR IS QUITE UNEXPECTED AND COSTLY. FORD HAS REPLIED BACK AND STATED THEY WILL ASSIST $1,569.12, WHICH WOULD LEAVE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR $1,000.00 TOWARD THE REPAIR."
I BOUGHT THE CAR 09/03/13. ON 05/26/16, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK & ON A PARKWAY AS I WAS ACCELERATING TO 45 MPH, THE ENGINE REVVED TO APPROXIMATELY 6500 RPMS WITHOUT ENGAGING THE GEAR, THEN SHIFTED. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, I STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON A THREE-LANE ROAD (40 MPH SPEED LIMIT). WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE REVVED BUT DID NOT ENGAGE; I SLID BACKWARD. I BRAKED TO STOP FROM HITTING THE CAR BEHIND, LET THEM PASS, THEN TURNED OFF THE CAR, AS I SMELLED BURNING. I TURNED THE CAR ON & PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL UNTIL EVENTUALLY IT ENGAGED IN FIRST GEAR & WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ENOUGH TO GET OFF THE ROAD. 1. MIS-FIRING CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO ROCK, SEEN MAINLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS IN GEAR WITH THE BREAK ENGAGED AT A STOP SIGNAL. 2. SUDDEN OVER-REVVING SEEN ON THE TACHOMETER. 3. THE OVER-REVVING USUALLY PRECEDES THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKING INTO THE CRITICAL AREA. THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN ON INCLINES. PULLING OVER, SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE ALLOWING IT TO COOL DOWN FOR 10-15 MINUTES, THEN EVERYTHING IS FINE. I HAVE LEARNED TO WATCH FOR THE OVER-REVVING, THEN APPLY THE BRAKE TO STOP THE OVER-REVVING. THEN HAS ALLOWED ME TO KEEP THE OVER-HEATING IN CHECK.

THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH ROLLING BACKWARDS WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP ON A HILL AND WITH A HESITATION THEN A SLIGHT JERK WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP. THAT HAPPENED OFF AND ON ONE DAY THEN CLEARED UP FOR ABOUT A MONTH. WHEN IT STARTED AGAIN IT WOULD ALSO HAVE SLUGGISH ACCELERATION LIKE IT HAD A SHIFTED INTO A GEAR THAT WAS TOO HIGH, OR WOULD WIND UP LIKE IT HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. EVERY TIME WE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE ESCAPE STALLS AND YOU NEED TO RE-START THE CAR. I'VE BROUGHT TO A DEALER AND THEY THINK ITS THE TORQUE CONVERTORS WHICH IS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. SOME ESCAPES WITH THIS SAME YEAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED ALREADY BUT WHEN I CHECKED WITH MY DEALER THEY SAID MY HAS NOT. THEY ESTIMATED THE COST OF THE FIX AT $4000.
MY KIDS AND I WERE IN THE DRIVE THRU AT SCHLOTZKY'S WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN 'PARK' TO ORDER. ONCE MY ORDER WAS COMPLETE AND I WAS READY TO PULL FORWARD, I WENT TO PUT MY CAR IN 'DRIVE' AND THE GEAR STICK WAS MOVING FREELY BUT NOT SHIFTING THE GEARS FOR MY CAR TO MOVE. WE THEN TOOK IT TO MIENEKE WHERE THE CAR PREVIOUSLY WAS FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. THEY SAID THAT MY SHIFTER CABLE HAD GONE BAD. NOW MY GEAR STICK GETS STUCK WITH TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS.
WHEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND THE THROTTLE DID NOT WORK. I PULLED OFF, SHUT THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT THEN RAN OK. THE SAME THING HAPPENED 2 OTHER TIMES - AS IF THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT WORK. I SAW ON INTERNET THAT ESCAPES HAS A HISTORY OF THROTTLE PROBLEMS, INCLUDING MY YEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER IN COLUMBIA MO AND THEY SAID , BASED ON THE VIN #, THAT MY CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT AFFECTED BY THIS THROTTLE ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING BUT CHARGE ME TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THIS IS WRONG. I COULD GET SERIOUSLY INJURED IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN BUT FORD TAKES NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM.
