TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED AND REMAINED IN NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE THE SHIFTER OUT OF NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER CABLE FAILED. THE SHIFTER CABLE WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO ADVISED THAT THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE NAVIGATION SCREEN REMAINED ON DUE TO THE GEAR FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

THE ISSUE OCCURS ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED, THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO STUTTER AND WILL SHUT DOWN. SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF, WILL RE-START AND IT HAS THE SAME ISSUE. SOMETIMES, IT OCCURS AFTER I HAVE DRIVEN 100 FEET (OR LESS) AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER, SHUT THE CAR DOWN, OR IT SHUTS DOWN, AND THEN RESTART. THIS MIGHT HAPPEN 2-3 TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO DRIVE OKAY. THIS CONDITION SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. SOMETIMES, I HAVE TO TURN THE AC OFF PRIOR TO RESTARTING THE CAR.

HE FELT THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE TRANNY WITH THE MOTOR DAMAGE. FORD CUS SER REP AND SUPERVISORS DO NOT KNOW THE CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION IN POWERTRAIN RECALL.
