WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, MY FORD ESCAPE'S STEERING WHEEL FROZE. IT STIFFENED AND WAS UNMOVABLE. I HAD TO WRESTLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET OFF THE ROAD, TRYING TO TURN IT. I FINALLY DID TURN, AFTER A WIDE, WIDE TURN, I WAS ABLE TO PARK IT. THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WORDS CAME ON. I HAVE NOT MOVED IT SINCE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE THAT THE SAME SYMPTOMS MAY BE RELATED TO THE RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE, BUT THEY PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN ADVISING THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000. *TT
ALREADY HAD THIS RECALL FIXED-# 14S05. RECALL ORIGINALLY "FIXED" IN DECEMBER OF 2014. STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING WHILE DRIVING AND STATIONARY, RATTLING NOISE. A NEW TORQUE SENSOR WAS INSTALLED AND THAT WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. TODAY, HAVING THE SAME ISSUES- STEERING WHEEL TURNING ON ITS OWN, RATTLING. DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M DRIVING AT A STOP LIGHT, TURNING, ALL THE TIME. HAVE BEEN TOLD SINCE IT WAS ALREADY FIXED(NO IT WASN'T), THEY NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH WILL COST ABOUT 1500 AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL. BUT THEY ALSO SAY, THAT I SHOULD HOLD ON TO MY RECEIPT IN CASE THE RECALL GETS EXTENDED, AND CAN MAYBE GET REIMBURSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000. *TT *TR
RECALL WAS DONE IN 2014 FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES. WE BROUGHT IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS JUST TO UPDATE THE MODULE. AFTER THAT, OUR STEERING WOULD GO OFF AND ON EVERY NOW AND THEN, BUT DIDNT THINK ANYTHING OF IT. ABOUT A MONTH AGO OUR POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I CALLED OUR LOCAL FORD AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS I PAY $120 FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER LOOKING UP WHAT THE RECALL ACTUALLY WAS, IT WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE POWER STERLING ITSELF. I CALLED FORD COMPANY AND THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE OUR LOCAL FORD ALREADY SUBMITTED THE MODULE UPDATE, THEN IT WAS UP TO US TO FIX THE PROBLEM. LOOKING AT THE RECALL, SEVERAL PEOPLE POSTED THAT FORD DID THE SAME TO THEM AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED....
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A REPUTABLE USED CAR DEALERSHIP ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO. ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY POWER STEERENG WENT OUT. I WENT INTO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID MY TORQUE SENSOR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE(AND 1.4 MILLION OTHERS) IN 2014 BECAUSE OF A TORQUE SENSOR FAILURE AND I SIMPLY NEEDED TO BRING THE VEHICLE INTO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. WHEN I CALLED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE REPAIR FOR THAT RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE, BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. I CALLED FORD'S CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE, AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING AGAIN, BUT FORD ISN'T TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BELL FORD (2401 WEST BELL RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85013) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS REQUIRED. LATER, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WHILE THE ENGINE IDLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK REPLACEMENT AND STEERING CALIBRATION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD MY DAUGHTER SINCE THE UPDATE WAS DONE IT WOULD COST $800 TO FIX PART. THIS PART SHOULD'VE BEEN COVERED BY THE RECALL, NOW THEY WANT $2000 TO FIX BECAUSE ANOTHER PART IS BAD. THEY SENT MY DAUGHTER A LETTER ABOUT THE STEERING UJOINT JUST TO GET IT IN THE SHOP, THAT'S WHEN THEY DID THEIR UPDATE TO SATISFY YOUR RECALL, NOW SHE LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING, NOW WON'T HONOR YOUR RECALL. WOULD YOU PUT YOUR CHILD BEHIND THIS STEERING SYSTEM OR LET THEM CHARGE YOUR CHILD FOR THE REPAIRS?

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO LONGHORN FORD (1311 S PACIFIC ST, MINEOLA, TX 75773), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

THE POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE LIGHT HAS TURNED ON AND TURNING IS DIFFICULT. RIGHT NOW THE CAR IS STILL DRIVABLE BUT NEEDS STRENGTHS TO MAKE YOUR TURNS. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 1ST 2018 I WENT TO START DRIVING MY CAR AND IT IS STEERING POWER ASSIST LIGHT TURNED ON. YOU STILL ABLE TO GET TO WORK I'LL JUST HAVE TO USE A LOT OF STRENGTH FOR STEERING. I CAN'T STEER MY VEHICLE. IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN. WAS FINE ONE DAY AND THEN THE NEXT TIME WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT I COULDN'T RUN THE WHEEL. I WAS SEEING THAT MANY 2008 FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. I SEARCHED THE VIN AND MY CAR CAME UP WITH NOTHING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SOME CARS HAVE A RECALL AND SOME DON'T.
TAKA TAKE RECALL. 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID EAPS TORQUE SENSOR FAILED DURING DRIVING AND STEERING, LEADING TO NO ELECTRONIC ASSIST IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS WAS THE STEERING LOST COMMUNICATION. AFTER INSTALLING AN UPDATE IN THE SYSTEM, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER RESULTING IN A TOTAL FAILURE IN THE TORQUE SENSOR AT LOW SPEED DURING STEERING.
MY 17 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SCHOOL. WITHOUT WARNING, THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. HE ENDED UP PARKING (LEAVING) IT ON A SIDE STREET AND WALKING THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. HIS VEHICLE IS NOT A PART OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL FOR THE STEERING. I HAD TO GO PICK UP HIS VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT HOME WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONING. IT WAS A SCARY ORDEAL FOR MY SON AND I AM THANKFUL HE DIDN'T WRECK.

THE LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE SHOP FOUND CODE 2278 WHICH WAS FOR STEERING TORQUE SENSOR AND TOLD HER THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. IT WAS TOWED TO WINNER FORD IN CHERRY HILL, NJ. I WAS ALERTED TO THE RECALL AND RESEARCHED IT, DISCOVERING RECALL # 14S05, ISSUED IN 2014, WHICH APPEARED TO AFFECT OUR VEHICLE. DEALER AND FORD SAY THEY WILL NOT HONOR THIS RECALL BECAUSE THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN WHEN NOTICE FIRST RECEIVED IN 2014 AND RE-PROGRAMMING WAS DONE TO FIX PROBLEM. FORD'S RESPONSE WAS THAT ONCE THE RECALL WORK HAS BEEN DONE, THEY ARE NO LONGER OBLIGATED. FORD...
AS I WAS STARTING TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING JUST QUIT. IT HAS BEEN FINE UP UNTIL THAT POINT. LUCKILY I WAS STILL IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE DEALER (L & L FORD, 314 HARRISBURG ST, EAST BERLIN, PA 17316, (717) 259-6334) WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE EPS WARNING INDICATOR WAS FLASHING. THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN VIBRATING AND VEERING TO THE LEFT, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO APPLY FORCE TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL EACH TIME THE FAILURE HAPPENED. THE DEALER FAILED TO PROVIDE A REMEDY AND CLEARED THE CODE AS IF THEY HAD PROVIDED A SOLUTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THAT THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODE WITHOUT REMEDYING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST FAILURE -- SUDDEN AND COMPLETE FAILURE. ON HIGHWAY...OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 5 F ABOVE ZERO. TWO CHILDREN IN CAR (ONE YEAR OLD AND 3 YEAR OLD). WITHOUT WARNING (AND DURING A 45 DEGREE CURVE) THE STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT AND AT FIRST THE STEERING ASSIST ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE STEERING AND THAT MADE MATTERS WORSE -- HOLDING THE WHEEL STEADY AND CONTINUING THRU THE TURN WAS A CHALLENGE (AND, I AM 'STOUT' GUY!). GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY ASAP. THEN AN ELECTRIC BURN SMELL STARTED..STEERING COLUMN (?). GOT THE GRAND KIDS OUT OF THE CAR (INTO THE 5 DEGREE TEMP) IN A HURRY! CAR NOW IN THE SHOP . $2,000 REPAIR AND MAY NOT BE COMPLETE. WILL FIND OUT FINAL NUMBER TODAY.

THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT AFTER A FORD DEALERSHIP RESET THE SOFTWARE AS REQUIRED BUT NOW WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL AND WANTS TO CHARGE ALMOST $2,000 FOR THE REPAIR.
SUDDEN TEMPORARY FAILURE OF ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING, THE DEALER SAID THE TORQUE SENSOR IS FAILING. THEY DID THE REPROGRAM IN AUGUST 2017, NOW FORD WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE THE RECALL HAS BEEN DONE AND THEIR WERE NO CODES IN PCM, GUESS WE ACTED TOO SOON ON A RECALL, IF THE SENSOR WAS BAD IN AUGUST THEY WOULD'VE COVERED IT. THEY WANT $600 TO REPLACE A PART THAT THEY KNOW IS FAILING AND CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS.

THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AT THE SAME DEALER THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REMEDY AS AUTHORIZED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS A DISTANCE OF 2 INCHES BACK AND FORTH ON ITS OWN. WHEN I TURNED MY VEHICLE ON RECENTLY, AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING "ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" AND THE WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN. AFTER TURNING IT A CERTAIN DISTANCE IT FREED UP AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY NEXT DESTINATION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS BESIDES THE WHEEL TRYING TO TURN ITSELF.

THE VEHICLE LATER EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.
FOR THE PAST 4-5 DAYS, THE POWER STEERING WAS GOING OUT COMPLETELY WHENEVER I TRIED TO MANEUVER IN PARKING SPACES. I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON TO REGAIN POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE. TONIGHT AS I WAS DRIVING ON A VERY BUSY ROAD THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN, LUCKILY IN FRONT OF A SERVICE STATION WHERE I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN SLOWLY AND WAS TOLD I HAVE AN ELECTRIC STEERING SYSTEM. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY MODEL YEAR FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEY ALL TOLD ME MY VIN WASN'T COVERED IN THE RECALL AND THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS AND CAR IS UNABLE TO BE STEERED. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, WITH VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS IS NOT A NUISANCE, IT IS TOTALLY UNSAFE AS CAR CONTROL IS LOST WHEN THIS HAPPENS. RECALLS APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN INITIATED SURROUNDING THIS PROBLEM, I NEED TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS THE CASE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING. AFTERWARDS WHEN I WOULD IDLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SHAKY MAKING A LOUD NOISE. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS HAPPENS TO THOUSANDS OF OTHER FORD OWNERS. THE POWER STEERING SIMPLY GIVES OUT AND THEY WANT YOU TO PAY $1,500 TO HAVE THE WHOLE COLUMN REPLACED!
RECALL STEERING -AFTER HAVING A "SOFTWARE" UPDATES ON A 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT IN 2014 FOR FORD RECALL #14S05, NOW IN 2017 MY STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING WHILE AT A STOP BOTH IN AND OUT OF GEAR. RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM COULD BE A TORQUE STEERING SENSOR OR A FULL BLOWN STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT. BOTH MAY LEAD TO INOPERABLE POWER STEERING OR STEERING AS WELL. LOCAL FORD DEALER QUOTED $800 FOR TORQUE SENSOR REPLACEMENT OR $1800 FOR FULL STEERING COLUMN.
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY QUIT, WHEN FORTUNATELY IN THE DRIVEWAY NO WARNING OR ERROR CODES THAT WERE SUPPOSED BE THERE AFTER RECALL. NEEDS REPLACEMENT STEERING COLUM PARTS THAT WERE DEFECTIVE AND NOT REPLACED. WHEN THE ASSISTS QUITS IT CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER AND CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL.
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO WITH 125,000 MILES ON IT & THE STEERING WAS GREAT! WE HAVE DRIVEN IT FOR ABOUT 1,000 MILES. WHEN I GOT IN AND STARTED THE VEHICLE THE STEERING IS SO TIGHT I CAN NOT TURN THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION! I HAD TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE STORE PARKING LOT & HAVE MY HUSBAND GO THERE AND DRIVE IT HOME. WE CHECKED WITH DEALER AND THEY INFORMED US THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON OUR VEHICLE. SO WE WENT ONLINE & FOUND THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM, WITH FORD DOING NOTHING TO HELP.
