2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA Steering Problems

While I was driving the right control arm seperated from the car. I was fortunate that I wasn't on the highway, also that I did not cause a collision with another car/person. With no warning the car felt as if it dropped on to the ground. Soon after I received an error message saying to service the brakes which i assume was also damaged when the control arm fell... I had to have the car towed to a repair shop and received a list of repairs. The car is avaliable for inspection. I had no clue how something like that could even happen. Ive been trying to find answers when i saw a recall on another car by the same maker that perfectly summed up what happened to me. Chrysler's number for this recall is V15.

Been complaining about his front steering key suspension since 2020 about rattling and squeaking whenever customer turn in the wheel

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the steering wheel seized and was unable to be turned. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the steering failure message was displayed, and the power steering function was not available. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The approximate failure mileage was 74,780.

Steering system becomes stuck. You have to give a hard jerk to the steering wheel to free the steering. Happen on an irregular basis but does occur. This can cause an over steering issue. Vehicle is currently at a dealership to be inspected for possible cause. There were no warning lights or messages

Having trouble with steering. At times steering wheel makes noises and locks up while turning. I was told a recall was already done and that I need a new computer that will cost 5k for part and install. I just had issues with panel lights going on and off and had to replace secondary battery due to stop/start button which Ive had trouble with consistently. I think this issue with computer may be due to recall issue and I believe this issue should be fixed and paid for thru recall process. It is an ongoing issue with pacifica 2018 with start/stop and push button starts. I have taken it to 2 dealers. They said recall done. So I need new part

I had had multiple incidents when the Van would get stuck in a gear or would lose the ability to accelerate. The passenger doors, specifically the right side passenger door would get suck and continuously open because it could not close. The rear view cameras would get stuck and after reverting to D it would stay on the screen for at least 5 min before switching back. The screen would also go blank. The van would also get stuck between gears or would shut off at a stop light.On this particular day I was driving and was starting to slowdown for the light signal. In March of this year (2024), while driving down the road at 45 mph, my Pacifica's dashboard suddenly lit up and flashed all kinds of warnings including ABS off, the check engine light, the parking brake, the service electronic throttle control, electronic stability control off, collision off, warning parking brake, and other lights that I'm not sure what they mean. It seemed like every warning light in the panel lit up. The van slowed down and wouldn't let me accelerate and it felt like the power steering wasn't active. The steering wheel seems to "lock" or become stiff when traveling over 50 miles an hour. It does not happen all the time, but causes over correction which is scary at higher speeds

There is a loud clicking and popping noise from the front drivers side suspension when turning or going over bumpy ground. The car also pulls to one side unexpectedly when going around corners Sometimes while driving the car will shut down and restart as if rebooting a computer.

When driving at 60-70 mph steering wheel feels like it is sticking. It won't return back to center. It is a very uncomfortable feeling, like the steering wheel is going to get stuck turning. I see that there has been another complaint filed. - NHTSA ID # 11578790

When traveling 65 - 75 mph, steering wheel sticks/gets stuck when making right turn. Steering does not auto-correct itself like it should. After researching issue, it’s related to an issue with the power steering rack and pinion. It needs to be replaced. The part itself is over $2,000.

Driving along and the power steering stops and you can’t turn then it releases and then a little bit later it’ll do it again so the power steering comes back-and-forth but I feel it’s a hazard

Occasional loss of power steering and or locking up of the steering wheel resulting in excessive force to overcome the locked or "catched" position. Dealer has inspected and says that the electric steering gear is faulty.

Driving through a parking lot when the van said shift to park and completely shut off while moving. Lost power steering and acceleration. Car then would not restart. Husband came and we hooked to his battery and somehow it cranked and we got it home.

Several near-accidents yesterday and today. Steering wheel randomly locks up when driving. This is an extremely dangerous situation for my wife and 4 children riding in the van. You have to physically force the steering wheel back over, which can easily result in over correction which could also cause a crash. No warning lights on at the time, and has happened 4 times yesterday and once today already. How is this not a recall?!

I purchased this vehicle used in 2022. A few months after purchase, I began to notice that while I was going through a sweeping curve in the road and traveling faster than approximately 30 MPH, the steering wheel would stick at approximately 1 o'clock or 11 o'clock depending on which way I was turning while attempting to straighten the wheel back out after completing the turn. To get the steering wheel to return to center, it takes forcible action. If not careful, this forcible action can cause you to overcorrect from the turn. This becomes quite dangerous especially on narrow one lane roads. This problem has been discussed with multiple service centers, but has not been able to be diagnosed. No warning lamps are present in the vehicle and all other systems seem to be working fine.

The informational screen when turned on get super super hot and has slightly warped the dashboard. I believe There is a connection between Having the informational screen on while driving and the steering wheel sticking. It sticks less when the informational screen is turned off. I worry that if I’m driving with the radio on it will catch the car on fire

When making slow but sharp turns (ex: turning into a parking spot) the vehicle shudders.

Steering control loss due to the lower right control arm knuckle pinch bolt failure causing the lower control arm to separate from the steering knuckle. This problem had been identified by Chrysler and repaired in May of 2018 under Recall V15, but has occurred again. Due to the inability to having any directional control of the vehicle could have resulted in a serious accident had I been operating the vehicle at a higher rate of speed or in a more populated traffic area. The vehicle was towed to a Chrysler dealership and has been repaired. I also contacted Chrysler directly to report the problem but I don't feel they take the matter as serious. There were no vehicle warning lamps or message except at the time of failure. As I lost control of the vehicle a brief message appeared saying "Electronic Steering Component Failure"

The car battery system has failed over 5x when driving. All of a sudden the car battery lights start coming on & stearing shuts down and car stops. The last time it completely shut down. No power to even run hazard lights. No power to lock the car or rollup the windows. It has been 2 weeks and dealership mechanic can not figure out what is wrong.

CAR STEERING, GET STUCK VERY OFTEN, AND THEN CONTINUES TO WORK PROPERLY.

There are multiple things but here are a few i thought my wife was crazy until i started to drive it. 1. The steering feels like it gets stuck its not Major but it is a slight tug and it does it at random. 2. Steering is sticking. While turning the wheel at speed the steering sticks and does not automatically straighten out requiring the driver to manual straighten out of the turn. Very dangerous.

On multiple occasions over the last 2 weeks the steering will lock up while driving. This is happening at different speeds and different locations. The steering wheel locks up and takes a few seconds to free up. This vehicle is unsafe for my family, because at any given time the steering could cause us to crash. Their is no warning lights or anything that come on.

Vehicle randomly loses all steering power and van completely shuts off while in motion. Has happened twice now without warning. Won't start up til vehicle is in park and has stalled for a minute.. Could be potentially very dangerous on a highway or busy intersection. I have owned this vehicle for less than 1 year. According to consumerreport.org certain pacificas years 2017-2019 had this same issue back in 2019 and approximately 150,000 were recalled at the time. 2018 Pacific Vas (limited edition) has 51,000 miles on it. For the past two weeks the van has experienced loss of power steer on multiple occasions and it will last for just a few seconds to a few miles. If I shut the vehicle off and turn it back on that generally solves it. The loss of power steer has happened at an idle to up to 60 plus miles per hour. Online research shows a recall for this specific issue however, when I enter my VIN my van is not affected. I have also had other issues with the van such as third row getting locked up, passenger door not opening, stop/start feature not working, van says "pull over vehicle will stop soon".

Minivan has 59,194 miles. While driving home the power steering stopped working. It lasted a a second or two and a message displayed something about power steering unavailable. Then it started working normal, but a few minutes later it happened again - lasting a second or two. The first time was on the highway - second time on secondary roads at 55 MPH. VERY scary. The steering wheel was unresponsive - I wasn't expecting the loss of movement. Didn't dare drive it the next day. Took it to a local mechanic, but they were not able to find anything - stated it matched the description of the recall for steering issues - but my minivan wasn't part of the recall.

I was driving 10 days ago on a 75mph highway and suddenly a red light pops up in the dashboard and the steering wheel got really stiff and I could not move it, only about a 1/2” to each side. While driving the steering locks up and a message comes on that says power steering unavailable. It does not happen every time but lately it has been more frequent. This prevents me from steering and I have to try to pull off the road to shut the vehicle off and restart it. It is difficult to steer on a curve when your steering is locked up. This has happened at various speeds.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. IT SAID, "POWER STEERING UNAVAILABLE" ON THE DASHBOARD. THANK GOD THERE WAS NOT A CAR WAITING TO TURN ON THE ROAD I TURNED ONTO BECAUSE I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THEM. IT TOOK ALL MY MIGHT TO TURN THE CAR ONTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD STREET. THE POWER STEERING IS GOING IN AND OUT, BOTH WITH WARNING LIGHT AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS, NOT ONLY WHEN STEERING GOES OUT, BUT WITH THE SUDDENNESS OF IT COMING BACK ON. 2018 CHRYSLER TOURING L PLUS PURCHASED 4/23/2018. ON 3/25/2019, WHILE DRIVING ON A CLEAR DRY ROAD IN LATE AFTERNOON AT 50 MILES/HOUR ON A MAIN ROAD LEADING INTO OUR CITY, THE STEERING SUDDENLY TURNED HARD RIGHT (COULD NOT CONTROL IT) AND THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD. NO INJURIES (SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED), BUT SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. IT MAY BE A TOTAL LOSS. IT'S UNBELIEVABLE THAT NOBODY WAS KILLED OR HARDLY PHYSICALLY INJURED, BUT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER (A VERY YOUNG CHILD) ARE TRAUMATIZED BY THE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS NEW VEHICLE. *DT*JB

DURING DRIVING THE VAN WILL SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY BUT CONSISTENTLY 1-3 TIMES PER WEEK. MOST OFTEN THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE AT A STOP. THIS HAPPENS WITH BOTH THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ON AND OFF. WHEN RELEASING THE BREAK TO RESUMING DRIVING, THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH DISPLAY. "SERVICE STABILITRAC, ABS, ETC. IT THEN DISPLAYS THE IGNITION ICON THAT SAYS DEPRESS BRAKE AND START VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE MUST BE PLACED IN PARK, THEN RESTARTED. THIS SAME EVENT HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. NO POWER STEERING, BRAKE BOOSTER OR NOTHING. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THESE ISSUES IN THE 2018-19 VEHICLES AND WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THEM FOR 3 MONTHS, HOWEVER THEY HAVE NO RESOLUTION PROPOSAL AND FEEL IT OK TO KEEP THIS TYPE OF LIABILITY ON THE ROAD......NOT ACCEPTABLE.

WHILE IN MOTION, A LOSS OF POWER STEERING IS OBSERVED. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY SPECIFIC SEQUENCE OR EVENTS TO CAUSE THE ISSUE, AND APPEARS TO OCCUR RANDOMLY. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATES THAT THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING, AND TO SERVICE SOON. A RED LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER REMAINS ON FOR AS LONG AS THE POWER STEERING LOSES FUNCTION. ISSUE HAS OCCURRED BETWEEN 1 - 4 TIMES IN A DAY, AT WIDE SPECTRUM OF SPEEDS (STATIONARY AT RED LIGHT, AND BETWEEN 30 - 125 KM/HR)

IN THE FALL, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED LEAVING MY CAR COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE IN A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD GOING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED.IT TOOK OVER A WEEK TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM AND WAS GIVE A WHOLE NEW "COMPUTER". ON SATURDAY 3-2 AT 10:30 PM, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE GOING 70 MPH WHEN THEN POWER STEERING FAILED. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. I DID NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF STEERING AND HAD TO PULL THE WHEEL HARD TO THE RIGHT TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THANK GOODNESS, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. IF I WERE IN THE LEFT LANE ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIALLY FATAL. BOTH OCCURRENCES COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR HAVE BEEN FATAL. WE...

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OFF AND STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING AT THE HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT OF 65 AND AT 75. IT HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES DURING A ONE WEEK PERIOD WHILE ON 2 TRIPS. MY VAN HAS 15,500 MILES ON IT. SO FAR IT HAS ONLY OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT HAS HAPPENED WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AND WITH IT OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 20'S AND WHEN IT WA S IN THE UPPER 60'S.
