A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, I NOTICED MY REAR TIRE LEANING OUTWARD. TOOK IT TOO THE SHOP A FEW TIMES WONDERING WHAT WAS THE CAUSE. IT WAS DETERMINED FROM A DEALERSHIP IT WAS THE STRUTS. I WAS TOLD THE PACIFICA WAS KNOWN FOR IT. SO I HAD THE STRUTS REPLACED. IT HELPED BUT THE TIRE WAS STILL LEANING, IT WASN'T PERFECT LIKE THE REST. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER REASON BECAUSE EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD UNDERNEATH AND SUSPENSION. I LOOKED SEVERAL TIMES, MYSELF. NOT SEEING ANY MAJOR RUST OR ANYTHING UNSAFE. THEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 150 MILE'S FROM HOME, AT 70 MPH, A HARD BANG AND THE REAR END LIFTED UP AND DROPPED DOWN. CAR UNCONTROLLABLE. FINALLY ABLE TO STOP AND REALIZE THE SUBFRAME DROPPED RIGHT OUT OF THE CAR LEAVING MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL ON THE GROUND. IT HAD RUSTED FROM THE TOP OF THE SUBFRAME...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE PREMATURELY RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS CORRODED AND MAY FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, WHO INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHECK, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END FRAME THAT HELD THE ENGINE WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY REGULAR AUTOMOBILE SERVICE COMPANY RECENTLY COMPLETED A REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT BRAKE COMPONENTS ON MY 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. UPON ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE'S UNDERCARRIAGE, THEY IDENTIFIED SEVERE CORROSION OF THE "ENGINE CRADLE". THEY ADVISED THAT ENGINE CRADLE WAS IN VERY POOR CONDITION AND THAT FAILURE WAS LIKELY IN THE NEAR FUTURE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO DROP OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CRADLES IN THAT MODEL YEAR PACIFICA, BUT THAT THERE CURRENTLY WAS NO RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I WAS QUOTED $3,000.00 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE CRADLE, WHICH I CAN NOT AFFORD. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL OR ANY OTHER APPARENT EFFORT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM? THE VEHICLE IS IN OTHERWISE GOOD SHAPE...

THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP FOR A REPAIR ON A FUEL INJECTOR AND THROTTLE BODY. WHILE DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE SUB FRAME IS RUSTED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED/REPAIRED. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR WOULD BE $2495. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL.
DISCOVERED EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE SUBFRAME AND UNDERBODY MEMBERS AFTER TRYING TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. SPECIFICALLY, A "CLICKING" NOISE HAD APPEARED UNEXPECTEDLY DURING TURNING AND THE STEERING WHEEL HAD UNDUE RESISTANCE WHILE TURNING. AFTER CHECKING FOR TIRE PROBLEMS AND OTHER ISSUES, A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A SUBFRAME FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. HE MENTIONED THAT IF THE RUST PROGRESSED TOO FAR, THE ENGINE COULD LITERALLY FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS ISSUE DEMANDS A RECALL. UPDATED 09/15/15*LJ UPDATED 12/12/2017*CN
SEVERELY RUSTED SUB FRAME UNDER THE ENGINE. ADVISED BY REPAIR FACILITY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE RUST DAMAGE TO THE SUB FRAME. THIS WAS A HIDDEN DEFECT THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD KNOWLEDGE OF IF I HAD NOT PURCHASED A SAFETY INSPECTION. BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THE VEHICLE FAILED A MD SAFETY INSPECTION. ADVISED THAT REQUIRED REPAIRS WILL BE OVER $2500.
UNUSUAL HIGH AMOUNT OF RUST AND HOLES IN A FRAME FAILING NYS INSPECTION. AUTO IS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD.
I WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER CONSUMER THAT THE FRONT END AND ENGINE CRADLE, IN MY 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA ARE RUSTING. THIS RUST PROBLEM IS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ACTUAL FALL OUT OF VEHICLES. AFTER HEARING OF THIS, I HAD TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS CHECK MY VEHICLE. AFTER BOTH INSPECTIONS I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS SEVERELY RUSTED AND IS NOT GOING TO BE SAFE TO DRIVE FOR MUCH LONGER. THE ESTIMATED TIME FRAME I WAS GIVEN IS BETWEEN 6-12 MONTHS. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I DRIVE LOCAL ONLY AND HAVE IT REINSPECTED EVERY THREE MONTHS FOR MY SAFETY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR, THE LOWER FRONT, AND THE FRONT UPPER MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I WENT TO HAVE THE STATE INSPECTION PERFORMED I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS CAR WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE ENGINE CRADLE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND NEEDS OVER $3,600 OF REPAIR WORK DONE. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER AND CAN NOT AFFORD THAT KIND OF REPAIR COST. I FIND IT CRAZY THAT A CAR UNDER 10 YEARS OLD SHOULD HAVE THIS KIND OF RUST DAMAGE. THE VISIBLE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR IS IN PERFECT SHAPE, BUT THE UNDERSIDE IS TOTALLY CORRODED! WHEN GETTING OIL CHANGE MECHANIC POINTED OUT FRONT FRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) RUST. FRAME RUSTED THROUGH. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
JUST TOOK MY 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN FOR ANNUAL NYS INSPECTION AS WAS TOLD IT FAILED DUE TO SEVERE ROTTING OF THE MAIN ENGINE CRADLE AND IT WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THIS CAME AS A TOTAL SHOCK AS THE CAR HAS SHOWN NO OTHER RUSTING OF ANY BODY PARTS AND HAS BEEN A MECHANICALLY SOUND VEHICLE UNTIL THIS POINT. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND THE OTHER UNDER CARRIAGE COMPONENTS ARE IN ACCEPTABLE SHAPE, ONLY THE CRADLE IS RUSTED THROUGH. I DROVE IT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN BY CHRYSLER AND THAT I SHOULD CALL CHRYSLER AND REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WAS $4400.00! I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY FROM DEALERSHIP AND AFTER SOME REVIEW I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE FOR ME!! I NOW HAVE A JUNK VEHICLE WITH NO RESALE POSSIBILITY...
WENT IN TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR RUSTED OUT. THE AREAS OF RUST AND CORROSION ENCOMPASSED THE CRADLE, FRAME RAILS AND CHASSIE. HE QUOTED ME $4000. I AM GOING TO DRIVE IT OVER TO THE CHRYLSER DEALER ON APRIL 1ST FOR AN EVALUATION AND EXPLANATION. *TR

CAR DID NOT PASS INSPECTION AND ENGINE CRADLE HAS TO BE REPLACED. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT CHRYSLER SINCE THEY HAVE SEEN MANY PACIFICA'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. AFTER TALKING TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THAT THEY ARE SORRY THAT THEY CAN NOT HELP SINCE THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL BUT JUST FOR LIMITED NUMBER OF CARS MANUFACTURED IN 2004, SINCE MY CAR IS NEWER IT IS NOT COVERED IN THAT RECALL. *TR

LIKE OTHER EARLY MODEL CHRYSLER PACIFICAS NOTED ON THE NHTSA SITE- MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE SHOP INFORMED ME THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE ENGINE CRADLE/ SUBFRAME BEING RUSTED/ROTTED OUT SO BADLY YOU COULD SEE THROUGH IT. THEY SAID THAT IF A LARGE ENOUGH BUMP WAS ROLLED OVER, THE ENGINE COULD FALL OUT AND A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR AS THE VEHICLE WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY LOSE CONTROL. I AM NOW AFRAID TO ALLOW MY WIFE AND 2 SMALL CHILDREN TO DRIVE IN IT FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICED AT THE CHRYSLER DEALER AND ON THIS OIL CHANGE WERE JUST INFORMED ABOUT THE EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE ENGINE CRADLE. DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER PACIFICA AND THAT CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON ONLY A FEW 2004 AND 2005 MODELS. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP WITH ANY REPAIRS SAYING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY MODELS. THERE IS A LARGE RUST HOLE IN THE ENGINE CRADLE ON ONE SIDE AND EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE OTHER SIDE. *TR
A MECHANIC, WHILE CHANGING THE OIL ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA, INFORMED ME THAT THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED BADLY AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE CARRIAGE AND ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS INADEQUATE IN TERMS OF HANDLING ROAD SALT. BUT THEN THEY REVISED THE EXTENSION OF WARRANTY TO INCLUDE ONLY CARS MANUFACTURED AFTER FEB 23, 2004 AND BEFORE MARCH 31, 2004. WHILE SUCH A LIMITATION? MY VEHICLE, ACCORDING THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON ON THE PHONE, WAS BUILD ON AUG 25, 2004 AND THEREFORE FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE COVERED TIME PERIOD. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MY CAR HAS A RUST PROBLEM WITH THE SUBFRAME AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH PACIFICAS MADE IN 2004 AND 2005....

RUST ISSUE ON FRONT ENGINE CRADLE I AM FROM SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV RESIDENT AND RECENTLY DISCOVERED THROUGH MY DEALERS MECHANIC THAT I HAD A BADLY CORRODED ENGINE CRADLE. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND IT JUST TURNED 100K MILES. DEALER DENIED THE RECALL, THERE IS A SMALL WINDOW OF VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN FEB.23, 2004 AND MARCH 31,2004, A PRETTY SMALL WINDOW. A COUPLE OF CALLS TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE HAS FALLEN ON DEAF EARS. THE DEALER AND CHRYSLER ARE NOT BUDGING. I HAD MY 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN FOR A ROUTINE INSPECTION AND TWO PLACES ON MY SUBFRAME IT HAS RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE FRAME. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY LETTER SENT BY CHRYSLER TO ALL 2004-2005 PACIFICA OWNERS BUT THE 2006 PACIFICAS HAVE THE EXACT SAME SUBFRAME. I FILED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER'S CORPORATE OFFICES AND AM WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE. I HAVE ONLY 90K MILES AND MY CAR IS IN MINT CONDITION. OFTEN I AM ASKED IF IT IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. *TR
TOOK MY 2006 PACIFICA IN FOR INSPECTION. THE ENGINE CRADLE IS RUSTED THROUGH AND UNSAFE. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS EXTENDED COVERAGE ON SOME OF THESE CARS. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD PAY FOR IT (2500.00) NOW AND SAVE MY RECEIPTS BECAUSE THERE MAY BE A RECALL SOMEDAY THAT WILL COVER MY CAR. THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM BUT ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND EVEN FOUND A PETITION ON CHANGE.ORG, WHICH I SIGNED. I ALSO FOUND THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, COUNT ME IN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. ON MARCH 20TH 2012 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE STRUT MOUNT BROKE, SLIGHTLY ALLOWING THE STRUT TO DAMAGE MY HOOD AND BREAK MY INNER TIE ROD END. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED THE VEHICLE CALLED AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE. ON MARCH 23 I PURCHASED A NEW STRUT MOUNT AND ON THE 24TH REPLACED THE BROKEN ONE WITH THE NEW ONE. UNFORTUNATELY I DID THE WORK MYSELF AND DIDN'T NOTICE MY INNER TIE ROD BROKE. WHICH LED TO MY VEHICLE NEEDING TO BE CHECKED BY MY MECHANIC ABOUT 8 MONTHS LATER WHEN MY OUTER TIE ROD END GAVE WAY DAMAGING IN THE PROCESS THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE DRIVER SIDE AXLE. I HAD EVERYTHING FIXED AND RAN INTO NO MORE PROBLEMS UNTIL JULY 17TH 2013 WHEN MY FRONT END ALIGNMENT STARTED TO SLIP AND A NOTICEABLE KNOCKING NOISE STARTED COMING FROM MY FRONT END....

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED JUNE 11, 2013 AND HAD THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE REPLACED DUE TO UNFIX-ABLE FLAT TIRE. THE DEALER HAD ME TAKE VEHICLE TO PEERLESS TIRES CO. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH WRONG SIZE AND DIFFERENT BRAND OF TIRE. TRAVELING DURING THUNDERSTORM APPROXIMATELY 3,5 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE; THE COMPUTER APPEARED TO LOCK WHEN VEHICLE SLIPPED ON PAVEMENT AS AWD ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING AND POWER THEN SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD. I MADE CLAIM THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED BY LOCAL SHOP, AND I HAD MY MECHANIC LOOK TO SEE IF DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS NOTICEABLE WAS NOT HANDLING CORRECTLY AFTER ACCIDENT. WHEN ACCELERATES OR DECELERATES THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE FORWARD. TOOK VEHICLE TO PEERLESS TIRE CO. AFTER MECHANIC POINTED OUT THE WRONG SIZE AND MODEL OF TIRE ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE.
