The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was slightly stalling as the check engine light was illuminated. The contact also stated that she needed to refill the antifreeze more frequently. A personal diagnostic reader was used and the failure code for a cylinder misfire was retrieved. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where they confirmed that there was no recall under the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

Check Engine light went on, car has under 95k miles. Upon inspection at dealership, they quoted a new engine as the solution due to a coolant leak into the cylinder (#3). Cost of fix is around $11k...not even close to a reasonable problem for a car of this age! Am being told this is a problem with the long block throughout this line. Need Ford to step up and fix this problem.

My car began overheating and immediately would run fine. After researching what was going on I took my car to Herring Ford in Picayune, MS. They stated to me that the motor would have to be replaced due to a leak from the coolant, but that I could safely drive the car if I kept the coolant level full. After more research I found that year models 2013-2015 were recalled for the same issue. I purchased my 2016 Ford Fusion in December of 2015. I am requesting that my car be added to the recall due to the same defect and that I am reimbursed the full price I paid to have my car repaired. No warning lights appeared unless the coolant level was low. I filled the car with coolant daily to keep it from running hot. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk due...

Car not starting, engine light on. Took to shop, and was a #3 cylinder misfire error. Shop replaced spark plugs and topped off coolant. Over next few days noticed coolant was disappearing. No leaks. Car running rough, loosing coolant. Took to shop again, after several weeks they came back saying coolant is getting into combustion chamber. Decided to take to dealership, they said I need a new engine. Took to dealership I purchased car from and they said the same, new engine. The car only has 77,000 miles on it. Now it is essentially a paperweight. After researching problem, found out this is a known manufacturers defect (grooves in the head that trap coolant and degrade gasket). 2012 Ford ordered a do not drive notice for the exact same problem. I have wrote to Ford and asked for assistance with the repairs, as this is a manufactures defect, but have...

The vehicle started leaking coolant into the engine at just under 100k miles. I took my vehicle to Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood, California, and they want just over $10,000 to replace my engine. I've taken care of this vehicle since I purchase new and have always taken care of it. I do not have the money to replace the engine for more than the car is worth. I've spent money on replacement parts, such as, spark plug coils, spark plugs, and valve cleaning. All this seems to be associated with the coolant leaking into the cylinders. At this point, I continue to add coolant to ensure that I do not overheat the engine. I've also stopped driving the vehicle.

Car engine lost power on interstate potentially causing a serious and life-threatening accident. Upon inspection by mechanic, car is losing coolant into the engine cylinder due to design flaw in engine long block and head gasket. Only warning light was immediate and "engine overheating". Ford Motor Company has confirmed acknowledgement of this issue on 2016 to 2019 Ford Fusion and other Ford models but have not issued a recall for this problem. Car has 72K miles with no history of engine failure, overheating, etc. This problem has been reproduced by Ford dealership and inspected with camera to confirm engine coolant within cylinders. Ford also confirms that they've seen this several times and it is due to engine design flaw for ecoboost models 2016-2019.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated and jerked with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact then stated that she pulled the vehicle over and checked under the hood where she noticed that the coolant reservoir was empty. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone where it displayed codes: P0302, P0131, P1299, P1450, P0300 and P0303. The contact then stated that she replaced the spark plugs, coils, coolant reservoir, thermostat, and coolant; however, the failure recurred. Additionally, the contact stated that white smoke was coming from the exhaust and the engine became overheated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that coolant had intruded into the engine cylinders, causing the engine to overheat. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact...

Recall notice 22S43 / NHTSA Recall 22 V413 Car rolls when in park with brake on. Now my car won’t start at all. I don’t know if they are related. I need to know because I can’t waste any money if I don’t have to.

Symptoms include - rough idle, car sputtering and dying, miss fire cylinder 2, loss of coolant. Followed the recommendations from the codes after the check engine light came on. Changed the spark plugs & coils, reset check engine light. Came back on within a week. Took to Ford on 8/22/2022. Diagnostic came back on 8/25/2022 as a known issue TSB 19-2375. Faulty design of the short black, coolant intrusion into the cylinders. There is a class action lawsuit already in motion. It's unfortunate and truly unacceptable that Ford knows the old design of the short block is defective and failed to communicate this to car buyers posing safety concerns with car fires and months of vehicles being out of commission due to parts being in back order. Currently the car is being repaired once completed I can provide a detail work order exceeding $8000.00 if needed.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated and lost motive power with the check engine and low coolant warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.

RAN ROUGH ON COLD IDLE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. P0302, P0316. UPON INSPECTION FOUND ENGINE HAD CRACKING, ALLOWING COOLANT INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. CAR HAS 115,OOO MILES. WE OWE $4000 AND A ENGINE COSTS $5200. TURNS OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. A TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE SHOULD NOT BE "COMMON".

Brought car into Ford Dealership for check engine light and car cutting off while driving, dealer stated that a ignition coil was bad, had that issue fixed and approx 1 month later has same code and same issues was advised that there is coolant leaking into cylinder causing Check engine light and a dead cylinder and car will need new engine. After talking to service writer was told that it is a ongoing issue with this model car and engine and that there is several TSB letters advising the issue, I advised service writer at Ford, that we purchased the car New and every bit of service has been done at a Ford dealership and was never warned of this issue, service writer stated that Ford is not obligated to warn its customers of a possible issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine had misfired. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine short block assembly, the evac system, front-end alignment, engine coolant, and cylinder #2 failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the diagnostic result was confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

I started getting a check engine light on the car, hooked up obd miss fire cylinder 3, changed ALL the plugs and coil pack for cylinder 3. Cleared codes, ran fine for about 5 days. Misfire on cylinder 3 again, swapped cylinder 2and 3 coil packs, still misfire on cylinder 3 pulled plug, brand new mind you, looked horrible, cleaned it and swapped it with cylinder 2 plug, still misfire cylinder 3, car seemed to run fine when at higher rpm, but at idle was rough. Wife went to leave later in car….. engine coolant over temp came on, I get to the house, and notice that the coolant tank was low, added some coolant, started it back up, coolant seemed to disappear. Checked the dipstick… oil was a milky color so it’s either bad head or bad gasket. Upon looking this problem up there seems to be A LOT...

Started noticing white smoke come from exhaust looked for a coolant leak and couldn’t see any. Was topping all fluids after oil change in July 2022 this is all when I started noticing the white smoke. Come to find out there is coolant intrusion in one of the cylinders. Talked to 3 master techs from different ford dealerships and they all had said that there is not amount of preventative maintenance that could have been done to try and stop the issue. If I would have known about issue before buying would not have bought the car. Ford says that if you replace the head gasket and there is no damage to from intrusion that the issue will happen again. But if you buy there new long block kit that will fix the issue. Not sure why this isn’t a recall when there was nothing that could have been done.

At about 108,000 miles I had coolant intrusion into the engine. I was quoted $8,800 to replace the short block. My car was only worth $10,000 as quoted by CarMax so I will not be making the fix which is what most people with this issue are doing.

Coolant leaking into engine. Engine light on. Engine needs to be replaced according to service center. Known issue with 2016 Ford fusions with 1.5L ecoboost engines. Safety at risk due to overheating.
#11475138 |
Check engine light came on and code shown was for the turbo. I had the turbo replaced then check engine light came on again and it was showing missfire on a cylinder. This has been an ongoing battle with the turbo going out again because the engine is burning so much coolant. Recently I lost engine power driving on a main road and was almost hit from behind. This engine is flawed and should be illegal for it to be used in any vehicle. I have had nothing but trouble out of this car from the time I purchased it.

Vehicle has been diagnosed with water intrusion in cylinder #4. TSB from Ford shows an known issue that requires replacing the block. Even though my safety was not in question, this know problem should be up for a recall. Thank you.
#11474659 |
Recall on the shift cable caused my vehicle to completely stop working/ moving while I was out with my son. No notification was ever giving to me in regards to this problem. This has caused so many issues, specially not given a rental car to be able to to move around. My vehicle is not drivable all because of a recall from Ford company. Ford refuses to provide a rental or any assistance. Being a single mother, Making it hard for me to go to work or even see my kids.

Upon start up of the vehicle the vehicle sputtered . I would give it some gas and then a large grey cloud of smoke come out the exhaust.
#11473504 |
The engine failed to start due to engine coolant leaking into the engine compartment. While this occurred while the vehicle was parked, the engine could have failed while driving and endangered the driver and any passengers. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer as a complete engine failure requiring engine replacement outside of the warranty but too soon for normal wear and tear. There were warning lamps for overheating and engine misfiring.

While driving all the coolant drains into the engine causing the engine to over heat. I have read many reviews about this same issue. While driving this happened to me and I had to pull over VERY quickly on a dual lane highway (very unsafe)! Almost got hit by a semi in the process of having to pull over twice! Contacted Ford many times and they stated this is not a recall and all expenses would have to be paid out of pocket! VERY UNHAPPY CONSUMER!

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while his wife was driving 35-45 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power and was sputtering. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine was losing compression. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that it was a known failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that though it was a known failure, they could not assist as the vehicle did not have an extended warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,176.

My 2016 Ford Fusion with a 2.0 EcoBoost engine began experiencing a misfire in cylinder 4. I took the vehicle to a Ford Service Center for a diagnosis, and they said that the cause is coolant intrusion into the cylinder, and the only fix is replacing the engine. I still own the vehicle and it is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others are put at risk because, in the event of an unexpected total engine failure, I could lose power causing me to be stranded, power steering function, ABS function, etc. There is currently an ongoing class-action lawsuit titled Miller, et al. v. Ford Motor Company, so others have also experienced this issue. The vehicle engine has been inspected and diagnosed by a Ford Service Center. They stated that a faulty design makes the engines susceptible to coolant intrusion. There were no warnings about the failure...

Complete engine failure and extreme overheating from a known block issue at Ford. My car is essentially totaled needing a new engine due to known faulty engine blocks in the 1.5 and 2.0 liter motors from 2013-17. Overheating caused engine to stall on the interstate nearly causing several accidents. Once restarted we got home and was afraid the engine was going to catch fire until cool. Rolled vehicle outside. Ford should be ashamed that they only released a safety/service bulletin and not a recall. Now we are without a needed vehicle unless we can replace the engine at a cost of $5500 to $7500. Who has $7k laying around to fix a known issue to Ford?

Car lost power and just cut off right on Railroad Tracks, managed to get it restarted, called dealership in my area, took it in. They stated their computer wasn't finding anything. After a heated discussion, I finally got the head mechanic to drive it and it did the same thing to him. He said new fuel pump, so it costs me $810.00, labor included, which I thought was rape. Just a ridiculous charge, but hey I'm at the mercy of them!!! Three (3) weeks later same thing happening, just cuts off, leaving me on highway at night. Took it back, they put another fuel pump on, no charge. Week and half later, Key Fob doesn't unlock doors, even after putting a new battery in. Tire Pressure FAULT came on and car continued to cut off, again leaving me in a very dangerous situation, but I GOT LUCKY. I took it...

Coolant intrusion into cylinders, car barely runs. Mechanic says there is an issue with these particular ecoboost motors.

Coolant Intrusion I bought the 2016 Ford Fusion 1/8/2022. Three days into ownership, check engine light came on. Ed Morse Ford of Lebanon, MO diagnosed the car and determined "Coolant Intrusion". Due to the flawed design of the engines small block, coolant was allowed to enter into the pistons and sparks plugs. Result of the coolant intruding into the engine components, the engine was getting excessively hot and at serious risk of catching on fire and major component malfunctioning. Ed Morse Ford at their cost, did replace the engine small block and updated some seals and belts. Dealership reported the newly updated small block design was installed. The new design removes the pin holes from the top of the small block moving below the surface. Original design is a fire bomb waiting to happen and has happened.

Engine is leaking coolant into the second cylinder and Ford did a full tube up and did not resolve the issue but is now saying the only course of resolution is a $10,000 engine replacement. The car randomly loses power and may cut off and is a hazard to drive on highways as the power will suddenly be cut. I’ve gone online to see numerous complaints and even the Ford dealer advised this is a common issue but refuse to offer any solution or work with me as I’ve only had the car less than 2 years as the owner but am now being told what they believed to be bad spark plugs is an engine cylinder filling with coolant and they are unwilling to do any repair knowing the engine quality is as bad to begin with and opting to replace the engine for quite and expensive cost that...

Bad coolant leak into cylinders from inadequate head gasket causing performance issues and needing major repairs. Engine was pressure tested and failed with loss of 5psi in 10 minutes.

My son was driving home from work and his engine overheated setting off steam and displaying red warning icon. He pulled over to side of interstate which happened three times from his work to independent car repair service. Blessed he was not hit sitting on side of interstate or that engine didn't lock up potentially causing loss of control. Both of these issues would have put my son at risk of death or bodily injuries. Both Independent Car Service and Ford Dealership confirmed failure caused by engine head gasket flange design flaw allowing coolant into cylinder head. This resulted in having to have the engine replaced which Ford declined to cover. Ford has recently changed this flawed head gasket flange design to prevent coolant from entering cylinders. It's difficult for me to understand why Ford or NHTSA hasn't taken action on this issue that can potentially put lives at risk....

I had a check engine light appear on the dash. I took the vehicle to AutoZone to have the warning read. The reading came back as a misfiring spark plug. I had an appointment to get the spark plugs changed during my next oil change. A few days after I had the engine light read, the check engine light turned off. It was off for 1-2 days and then came back on. A few days later, while I was driving, I had a warning light that the vehicle was overheating. I pulled over and checked the coolant and the reservoir was empty. There were no signs of leaking coolant (externally). I let the vehicle cool and added coolant. At this point, I tried to start the vehicle and the vehicle wouldn't start. I had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic to have it looked at. They indicated that the...

This engine needs to be recalled. Ford shame on you. You know there is a problem with the coolant and by not taking care of the people who were deceived in buying your vehicle is so horrible

On February 20, 2022 I was driving down a busy road when my car out of nowhere just started jerking and would not accelerate. I was stuck in the middle of the road while cars had to slam on breaks and go around me. My car would not move. I had to then turn my car off and restart it in order to get it to a parking lot for safety. I didn't have, and still don't have any warning lights on the dashboard that indicated anything was wrong or going on with my vehicle. I had to have it towed to my mechanic who confirmed my transmission was "shot". It was done. I have always kept up on maintenance and oil changes on my car.

Check engine light came on but no symptoms at that point. Mechanic pulled codes and replaced plugs. Car started skipping and starting harder, so brought in again. Replaced coil on cyl 4. And also used fuel cleaner in case fuel injector was clogged. Still no change except that the heat was not working. After a week or so. Called mechanic who said it sounded like coolant may be low so filled it and made appt. To replace fuel injector. Replaced that and noticed that coolant was low again. Star still skipping and starting hard. Brought it back and he mentioned coolant may be leaking into cylinder and they’d check if gasket blown/cracked. I expressed frustration and asked if I should bring to Ford. He said yes and actually reimbursed me $638. I made appt at Ford but they were a month out. Then I brought to friends mechanic and told...

Purchased a 2016 Ford Fusion SE in July of 2021. First week I had the car the engine didnt crank/start. Took it to the dealership that I bought it from they sent me to their mechanic and was told nothing was wrong with it. Happened the third week of purchase went back to the dealership and was told to use my warranty and to take it to Ford. Took it to Ford and was told it had high resistance in my negative terminal in the battery. (First attempt August 2021) I was charged $400 to get the corrosion clean and put a coat on the terminal for protection. A week later my engine didnt start again. Had this problem for several weeks, one day the engine would start the next it wouldnt. I called Ford and was told to bring it back. (Second attempt Oct 2021) Ford told me they diagnosed...

As with all other ford 2.0l Ecoboost engine. There apparently is a design flaw causing coolant intrusion into the cylinders. Which would require a new engine per Ford.

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion SE 2.0L. Got a P0303 code for a cylinder 3 misfire. The spark plugs and coils were replaced to no resolve. Still getting a P0303 code. Short term fuel trims are good so I dont think its an injector issue. The car began to over heat with out warning about a week after the P0303 code started presenting itself. This is dangerous as the vehicle could catch fire.

Defect in engine design allowed coolant to leak into cylinder. There have been recalls on the 1.6L and 2.0L ecoboost engines but not the 1.5L for the same issue. I was advised that his could cause the engine to misfire and overheat possibly causing a fire. A quick search revealed several incremental TSB, 21-2269 is the latest, regarding this issue. This happened with approx 57,000 miles and 5 years 6 months on the car. The only fix was a complete engine swap.

Engine light came on after car overheated. Took car into local auto service center and was told I had a blown head gasket. I'm filling this complaint due to the numerous other complaints regarding this same issue on the same year make and model of my car. Had I not taken my car to the service center immediately, potential for safety issue could have been high and impacted myself, family, and other individuals driving near me.
