My 15 year old permit driver was driving the car and a power steering message flashed. The car became very difficult to steer and very difficult to pull to the side of the road. This could have caused a major accident. I was told when I called there was a recall for this in the past but had been fixed on this particular car. It must not have been fixed well. The car is not technically high mileage by today’s standards.

My power steering failed and caused me a great deal of grief financially and left me without a vehicle. This was a known issue with my car and a recall was not brought to my attention. I spoke with a representative at Ford and was informed to ask for an investigation: 15V340. I wish to be reimbursed by Ford for the inconvenience and failure to be notified about this recall.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the Extended Warranty had past the 10-year limitation and was expired; therefore, there would be no coverage on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was no longer covered under the Extended Warranty. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

One week ago I started experiencing a grinding noise when steering my vehicle, at any speed. The steering also catches in certain positions and becomes difficult to turn. The issue can be isolated to the electronic power steering gear in my vehicle: the grinding persists after disconnecting the tie rods, but disappears after disconnecting the steering column. I have a 2012 Ford Fusion with 104,000 miles on it. It has been well maintained and driven carefully for its whole life with zero accidents or failures. The steering issue appeared suddenly and spontaneously. There are no warning lights, or service codes, but the steering is clearly failing and making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Power steering failures at speed are unsafe and can cause accidents. Recall 15S18 and extended warranty 15N01 specifically address this faulty part in 2011-2012 Ford Fusions and many other vehicles. Because my vehicle is 2 months outside...

#11610477 |
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, the Power Steering Fault message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact restarted the vehicle, and the message was no longer displayed. The VIN had been included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that because the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was already updated, a diagnostic test nor the software update was not necessary. After the recall was removed from the VIN, the contact stated that after parking the vehicle and then restarting the vehicle, the steering wheel seized. The contact stated that the power steering assist fault message and the Service Auto Tech Issue messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle had been returned to the dealer where it had been diagnosed that Power steering rack had failed. The contact stated that the...

When driving or when parked it’s hard to turn the wheel both ways and that’s very dangerous when driving in the road.
#11609302 |
When driving the vehicle and making a turn (doesn't matter which direction) the steering column appears to be stiff and I have had a mechanic take a look at it without confirmation of the cause. There are no warning lights coming on to advise what could be causing the issue. This occurs on a random basis without warning and my concern is if it seizes while on the highway I could potentially be the cause of my death and worse, someone else.

My steering assist system goes of at odd times, and the acceleration it does tiny tugs, and my suspension it rattles, over street bumps,, can it be fixed by a dealership, cause it’s my only vehicle 🚗 I have and plus I’m on ssdi income and I can’t afford major repairs, like these, and if so have the car fully inspected just in case I’m missing something, oh and also there’s a popping noise coming from the front of the car..

Power steering issue. Mechanic said the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. FORD apparently had a recall or a customer service satisfactory advisory placed, 15N01, regarding the power steering issue. However, we were never notified of the issue until this happened 2 days ago. I’ve been searching for part prices or way to fix it when I stumbled on countless webpages explaining the recall and also a Reddit page with people explaining similar issues over the last 2 year of this happening and never being notified by Ford. Ford says there’s no recalls and nothing they can do…

The power steering system is currently non-functional, resulting in significant difficulty in maneuvering the vehicle, particularly at low speeds. This poses a substantial safety risk not only to myself and my loved ones but also to other motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and their pets. I am deeply concerned about the well-being of all individuals involved. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I have reached out to the dealership regarding the car's issues, providing them with the necessary information and VIN number. However, they have informed me that the repairs are not covered. Despite highlighting the safety implications of the problem, their response lacked concern or interest. It is worth noting that numerous online sources indicate that 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusions should undergo repairs and reprogramming as part of safety recalls. The dashboard warning light specifically indicates a need for steering service, yet Ford Motor Company has failed to...
#11607247 |
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the steering wheel was firm. The contact shifted into drive (D) but the vehicle did not steer as intended. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be reprogrammed and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The steering gear was reprogrammed but the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,036.

I spoke with Ford today because my 2012 Ford Fusion keeps saying Power Steering Assist Fault, and also throwing DTC code (U3000-96). This DTC code is under a Safety Recall which on Fords website does not expire. Customer Satisfaction Program Recalls can expire by date or mileage. Ford continues to say that the recall has expired. Being forced to drive the car is starting to take a physical effect on my body.
#11605107 |
The power steering failed. It showed an error code saying power steering fault and was nearly impossible to steer. If this happened while I was driving on the highway I could have died and therefore I feel it is a major safety concern.
#11604375 |
My 2012 Ford Fusion purchased March 3rd 2024 would sometimes display "Power Steering Assist Fault", shutting off the car and restarting made it stop, until 2 days ago. Now it is displaying "Power Steering Assist Fault" and shutting it off and restarting is not fixing it. Steering is incredibly hard to do. I called Ford two days ago and they told me that the recall had already been repaired, I asked if it was the update or if the part was replaced and they said it did not matter, I attempted to argue that if one solution was done and the problem reappears maybe it needed both solutions done to be completely fixed, Ford disagreed. When I spoke to a local Ford dealership they stated that on October 21st 2019 they found the recall number 15S18, and it was reprogrammed.

While driving with family, power steering assist fault came on and suddenly it was hard to move the steering wheel which resulted in drifting and an extemely close call car crash on highway. Had to get it towed due to safety concern.

Purchased 2012 Ford fusion in 2017. In 2024 we has a power steering assist warning. When it first happened we thought it was a 1 off. Now it has happened 3 times in the last month. We found out there was a recall in 2015. Went to dealership and was told because we don't have extended warranty. That it's our expenses to get it fix. We were never informed when we purchased the vechile that it has recall work done.WE dint even know if it was actually done in the first place. This is very dangerous when your vechile does this in traffic, turning as you can't steer it at all when it happens you need to stop shut car off and then restart. Very scary. Especially when I'm disabled. I don't have 2000 plus to fix a car trade worth 4700. Please tell me what my options are. If we...

I have several issues related to its steering system, particularly the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). The problems include the power steering assist failing, making the steering wheel very difficult to turn, and various error messages such as “Power Steering Assist Fault” displaying on the dashboard. This happen at any moment and the dealer refuse to fixed.
#11596165 |
The Power Steering Assist comes on and the car won't steer, out of nowhere.
#11595935 |
Power steering went out on my car while driving it
#11595453 |
Ford refuses to remedy a safety issue with the EPAS steering assist. It's a safety issue and these criminals filled it under customer satisfaction. This car could have killed me. I was going 55mph down the highway when the epas failed.
#11594612 |
Steering assist complete failure. While driving down the highway. No warning complete dead stick.
#11592917 | Crash
Power steering went out and made me crash . Prior owner got it fixed but still didn’t fix issue
#11592038 |
My power steering failed. The steering is very difficult to steer and maneuver at low speed. The error code on the dashboard beeps every time I enter the vehicle “power steering assist fault” and is available for inspection. This is extremely unsafe when driving at any speed because of the extra effort required to maneuver the vehicle putting other drivers or pedestrians at risk in the event of needing to avoid a collision. The problem has been inspected by Ford and another independent mechanic. Ford did not honor the recall. There was no warning for the issue, other than the beeping and the message on the dashboard. I had drove to the store and parked with power steering, when I started the car up to leave the store I suddenly had no power steering and had to have the car towed.

I am having problems with the POWER STEERING DEFAULT SYSTEM CAN NOT STEER VEHICLE
#11590418 |
The electric power steering assist (EPSA) function of the car is no longer functional. It is available for inspections upon request. The vehicle began intermittently losing power steering when the vehicle would start. The problem can now be re-produced each time the vehicle is started. The problem is a known issue with this model Ford Fusion and was part of a previous recall. This vehicle was serviced by the Ford dealership during the times the recall was in place and had the EPSA re-programmed. The issue still persists, and the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The recall is no longer in effect and Ford will not remedy the issue.

We are experiencing a loss of power steering with the car, which is dangerous as you never know when it is going to happen. When it does happen the car becomes so hard to steer you can hardly turn the wheel. Right now the loss of power steering is intermitent. We're afraid to drive the car for this reason. I contacted my local dealer's Ford service manager and Ford Customer Service and they will not cover any repairs. The Advancetrac light came on and a power steering assist fault displays when it you loose the power steering. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer as we just started having this problem. The service manager said it would cost around $2000.00 to fix it. The 2012 Ford Fusion SEL with the 2.5L I4 engine has 149,818 miles on it.

Bought this car in January of 2024. 2 weeks after purchase, my steering wheel became hard to turn while I was on the road. The Power Steering Assist Fault light came on, so I decided to fix the issue by taking my car to a well-rated mechanic in my area. The issue was fixed, but only temporarily as the same issue occurred two months later while I was on the road, leading myself and anyone else around me to be in danger of me losing control and crashing into them. Luckily, I made it home safely, and researched the problem only to find out many vehicles similar to my make and year had the same issue with a lot of recalls. I already paid 1000 dollars to fix it once, I'd like to have a recall in order to fix it again.

While pregnant wife was driving the vehicle, the steering completely stopped working. When she reached safety, wife pulled over and turned car off. After letting car set for a couple of minutes and turning back on, steering still wouldn't work. When taken to the dealership, Ford said that car didn't meet the customer satisfaction program warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Power steering went out. The steering rack has now gone bad in this vehicle twice. The first time it was covered under a recall, 15S18, and then there were further issues, so they issued a customer satisfaction recall with the number 15N01. 2012 ford fusion with 110,000 miles, two steering racks, but because the customer service recall is expired, they won’t replace my second bad steering rack, and it is going to cost me 3,000 dollars, more than half the worth of the car according to KBB. I find this to be incredibly unfair that Ford can put a crappy part that costs 2000 dollars in a vehicle, and then say because the customer service recall is expired, it’s my job and responsibility to spend 3,000 dollars fixing their crappy part.
#11577580 |
