Driving down highway at 60 mph lost all power basically coasted to side of road. Looks like torque converter and pump shaft splines stripped out. Shows there was a recall but none listed for this vin number. This is a huge safety concern and Ford should have to repair.
I was having issues with my car not able to really move so I had a mechanic to come to me to inspect it and he stated it was my torque converter someone on it in it near it.. That my issue.. So I was calling about the recall on it and it stated that it was already fixed in 2012 on recall. And I'm a new owner purchased in 2018.. I'm a Ford girl.. So from the Taurus 500 and freestar never had of it needed a van have grandkids and now out my four year with it no problem with til now and by it has been replaced before I'm not able to get help with fixing it .. That my only car now I'm now disabled on fixed income and can't afford to buy a new transmission.. I'm asking if u could assist me with the same...

Ford is recalling about 206,000 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles, because the torque converter output shaft may fail. If the torque converter output shaft were to fail, the result would be a sudden loss of motive power with no warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford will notify owners and dealers will replace the torque converter for free. The safety recall is expected to begin in the second calendar quarter of 2012. The recall campaign number is 11S25. 2012 recall was done at dealership, was the work actually done? With low miles it hard to believe that this has failed!

JANUARY 2015 WENT TO ACCELERATE FROM STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASH CAME ON TRANSMISSION WENT INTO LIMP MODE.HAD VEHICLE TOWED NEEDED A TRANSMISSION REBUILD WITH TORQUE CONVT. HAD 177K AT THAT TIME AT COST OF $2700.00. OCTOBER 2019 SIMILAR SITUATION OCCURRED NO WARNING LIGHTS NO SLIPPING, BANGING OR ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, WENT TO ACCELERATE AND CAR FELT AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. HAD CAR TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP, WAS TOLD IT WILL NEED A REBUILD WITH ANOTHER TORQUE CONVT. AT APPROX. SAME COST. VEHICLE NOW HAS 233K MILES ON CLOCK. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A REAL RELIABLE ASSET TO OUR FAMILY. THIS TRANSMISSION LASTED ALMOST 5 YEARS WITH APPROX. 56K MILES. WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER BUT THE ENGINE WAS STARTING TO RACE THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP CAUSING ME TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH CARS GOING AROUND ME THE POLICE CAME BY AND HAD TO PUSH ME OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO A SAFE PLACE SO I CAN HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED .FOUND OUT THE TRANS TORQUE CONVERTER STOPPED WORKING .JUST LIKE THE RECALL 11S25
I WAS TO THE ON US HWY 98 IN LAKELAND FL WHEN I APPROACHED THE STREET LIGHT THAT TURNED RED. WHEN I STOPPED THE CARAVAN WOULD NOT GO INTO GEARS TOWARD OR REVERSE WORKED AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC VERY HEAVY AND DANGEROUS POSSISION. HAD TO PUSH OF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE HELP ARRIVED. THAN I GOOGLED RECALLS AND I SEEN THAT FORD MADE A RECALL ON THE MAKE MODEL AND YEAR OF THE CARAVAN. I AM NOT SURE OF HOW THIS POSSESS WORKS BUT THE FORD COMPANY SAYS THAT THEY WILL FIX THE ISSUES WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER (AUTONATION FORD SOUTH FORT WORTH, 5300 CAMPUS DR., FORT WORTH, TX 76119, (817) 522-3225) STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,879.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIGHWAY FORD (18982 JOHNNIE B HALL MEMORIAL HIGHWAY, DERIDDER, LOUISIANA 70634) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WAS ONCE UNDER RECALL FOR TORQUE CONVERTER BUT ACTUAL PROBLEM IS WATER SEEPING INTO THE PCM. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY HAS SHIFTING PROBLEMS, SUDDENLY LOSES ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES WON'T GO INTO GEAR AT ALL, AND KNOCKS AND SHUDDERS VERY INTENSELY WHILE ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE PERFORMS ALL THESE WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY ON ALL STREETS AT ALL SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM INITIALLY IT INTERMITTENT AND PROGRESSIVELY GETS WORSE.
MY VAN JUST SUDDENLY LOST ALL DRIVE POWER. IT WONT GO FORWARD OR BACK. IT SHUDDERS AND DOESNT ACCELERATE PROPERLY.
TRANSMISSION GOES IN AND OUT OF GEAR WHEN WARM. SHIFTS PERFECTLY UNTIL WARM. FORD MINIVAN TRANSMISSIONS ARE SO BAD!!! WHY??? FORD FIX MY TRANSMISSION!!!!
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY ROAD AT ANY SPEED, RPMS WILL SUDDENLY INCREASE SLIGHTLY, THEN VEHICLE WILL DROP IN RPMS CREATING A SOUND SIMILAR TO A HORSE NEIGHING. SOMETIMES VEHICLE WILL LOOSE ALL MOTOR POWER, WHICH WILL REQUIRE A SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, TURNING OFF KEY THEN TURNING ON KEY, RESTARTING ENGINE. THIS WILL TYPICALLY HAPPEN WHEN TURNING ONTO A ROAD FROM A DEAD STOP, OR WHEN GOING UP HILL. THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE SINCE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED VIA SIDE OF ROAD DEAL ON 6/14/2017, AT 189,000 MILES. VEHICLE IS NOW AT 190000. IN FIELD OF "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN DATE WILL BE PURCHASE DATE. HARD TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION SINCE VIDEO WOULD BE BETTER TO PROVIDE PROOF OF PROBLEM.
ON JUNE 5TH 2017 WE HIT A DEER WITH OUR VAN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. AFTER THE DEER HIT THE VAN THE DEER SPUN AROUND AND WENT UNDER THE VAN. THE VAN WAS DRIVEABLE AND THERE WEREN'T ANY FLUIDS LEAKING. ON OUR WAY HOME THAT SAME NIGHT WHEN YOU WOULD GET UP TO 60 MILES PER HOUR IT WOULD JERK REALLY BAD IN THE TRANSMISSION. WELL WHEN WE HAD THE DAMAGE ON THE SIDE OF THE VAN FIXED WE HAD THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM THEN. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THEM AGAIN AND IT WAS GETTING WORSE. THEY FIGURED OUT THAT IT MOW HAD A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER.
TORQUE CONVERTER AND OUTPUT SHAFT. WHEN ACCELERATING INTERNAL SHAFT SPLINES SOUNDS STRIPPED WITH NO POWER TO GO . TACHOMETER IN TAKE OFF REVES UP WHEN CHANGING GEARS.
2005 FORD FREESTAR. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNSATISFACTORY CUSTOMER SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP AND UNRESOLVED VEHICLE PROBLEMS. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER MULTIPLE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN. *JS *JS
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A SOUND KIND OF LIKE A MISFIRE IN THE AIR INTAKE OR BACK FIRE IN THE EXHAUST. LISTENED SEVERAL TIMES AND SOUNDED LIKE THE NOISE WAS ACTUALLY COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. TOOK IT FOR A DIAGNOSIS TO J&A TRANSMISSION IN MORRIS, IL THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS IT'S THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH IS A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL BUT FORD IS UNWILLING TO HELP US BE SAFE AND REPAIR THE ISSUE SINCE OUR VIN ISN'T LISTED IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR THE RECALL. NHTSA ISSUED THE RECALL FOR ALL 2004-05 MODELS. SEE PE09-033
