Intrusion of the antifreeze into the cylinders causing misfires .
Car has idling issues and coolant is repeatedly leaking onto the engine, which is causing smoking and could cause a fire. Car stalls often. It was diagnosed by a non certified Ford repair shop in one day and they suggested I take it to a Ford repair shop, because there are issues with the 2014 1.6 engine in the Ford Escapes. I took it to the shop and I was told a hose was leaking and it was not the engine. Car continued to smoke and stall. I took it back and after a week I was told it needed an engine because the coolant is leaking and it is not safe to drive. Ford said because the car has 113,000 miles on it it will cost $7-$8,000 to repair. The car is paid off and is not safe to drive. I was told by the dealer that they only...
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the long block, air filter, battery, and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Vehicle was taken to local Ford dealer for recalls and coolant issue as noted on service right up as follows; Customer states coolant issue, no visible leak and holding pressure, customer adds about 1 gallon of coolant per month. Per technician; Customer in need of engine. We have researched and we have called two major engine rebuild companies and there are no 2.4 Liter engines to be found. We called a local Ford dealer and spoke to parts department and they stated that they do not have any new 2.4 Liter engines available nor is there any projected build times. I have checked into using a 2.5 Liter and the engines are not interchangeable and basically I have a good car with no engine and cannot be traded or sold.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle previously had the transmission replaced due to a shift solenoid failure. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated and a burning odor was detected with smoke coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while shifting into drive, the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
My 2014 Ford Escape failed to moved forward when I put on gas. I took to ford dealership They refused to do repair. I showed them safety recall notice 22s43/nhtsa recall 22v413. They said is not related. They asked for $4800 transmission and $500 for batteries.
Car detected low coolant and coolant was added two days in row. On second day the coolant was gone and car warned of high engine temperature, it stopped accelerating and warned to pull over safely while going 75mph on a freeway. Once checked, coolant was completely out and refilled again. Took to a Ford Dealership where had to pay for diagnostic because the Recall for the coolant issue was "Fixed" in 2019. Cause was determined that all the coolant flowed into Cylinder 3 leaving car with only 3 cylinders. Car won't go over 40 mph, and Ford wants thousands to fix an issue that they recalled for. They masked the problem until the car is literally unusable.
The ECO boost engine has a design flaw that makes the coolant not correctly cycle through the machine. Instead, it sits in the hot engine and vaporizes, eroding the engine over time and it can catch fire. There is a current class action lawsuit against FORD, which does not recognize this as a fault. I've had overheating problems where I can't drive my car.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated while refueling the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine warning light was flashing off and on. The contact stated that the fuel cap was missing. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
2014 Titanium Escape EcoBoost AWD. NO WARNING LIGHTS RE LOW COOLANT. I have it serviced every three - four months change oil and check fluids. Last service 05/19/2022. 208,000 miles. Car stalled/idle rough in middle of four lane freeway during rush hour. This happened last year in heat wave also. Tonight Landmark Ford in Tigard OR called, said car is totaled, needs to be scrapped or replace engine $18,000 +. Also said torque is twisted and transmission is needed. Asked if this is a known problem. Ashley at Landmark Ford said yes, this particular engine is known to leak coolant into cylinders causing engine failure. I bought the car at Landmark and they assured me they repaired ALL recalls since vehicle was new. However the coolant recall says warning light is installed and THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT WITH LOW COOLANT. Can't afford to pay off loan and buy a...
per the coolant recall issued in 2017/2018, I had my car repaired at Ted Britt Ford where I bought my card. I have now had a coolant issue and my car now has been towed to a car repair shop that is stating I will need to buy a new engine due to a crack at cylinder 3 (Which I see repeated over and over for the exact cause on the message boards due to poor recall and that it needs to be recalled again) at a cost of approx $9,000 even though Ford has had these recalls but did not fix the problem as many upon many complaints on the message boards and many phone calls, emails to Ford with no resolutions. I am reaching out to NHTSA in hopes that not only my issue will be resolved whether through a recall. I look forward to a positive, speedy...
Coolant light came on low Coolant I added more than came on again and again low on Coolant had it checked out 2 times can't get parts for it because only Ford can only have parts took it to them 3 times and now they say option 1 tear down to find it or option 2 replace the whole motor because it would run into labor times been leaking since I had it last year only had about 89,000 miles on it and still waiting to get it fix engine warning light been coming on plus the low Coolant light
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and then lost motive power. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak in cylinder # 3. The dealer informed the contact that the long block and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Cooling sensor triggered. Car has been inspected, there is not indication that car overheated. Have been advised it is related to Safety Recall 13S12-S2. Ford is stating this VIN does not fall into the set # of recalls processed for this recall.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle received a routine oil change; however, after arriving to her residence she became aware that the check engine warning light had remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed there was no oil in the engine. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 144,036.
One day after a scheduled oil change my Escape idled very rough upon start up. The check engine light came on. I returned to the Dealer and they found the code was for the cylinder 1 misfire. the code was cleared and reported to me then it did the same thing for the next several days but no check engine light would come on. Today, upon start it idled rough and "Low Coolant require service" message popped up on my dash. Having pressure tested tomorrow to see if coolant is leaking into the cylinder.
The car failed while driving, it was inspected by and independent mechanic and also the Ford dealership, van bortel Ford in Rochester NY - it's a 2014 Ford escape titanium with 60,000 miles on it. They said the coolant leaked into the engine and the engine now needs to be replaced. We routinely maintained the car. There was no indication or lights that went off warning us of the issue - the car just suddenly stopped working one day and said it was overheating but there was no smoke coming from the engine. We could have gotten hurt while driving since it stopped automatically.
For the past five years, I've been experiencing low coolant issues which I realize isn't a safety problem in and of itself. It's been an ongoing issue and I've spent hundreds of dollars to have the same problem continuing to recur. The mechanics claim there's no leak yet every 2-3 months I have to put antifreeze in my car. Several times without notice (low coolant light not working), a high temp light comes on telling me to pull over to safety. The engine goes to low power. Usually after about 10-15 minutes, the car is fine. I've explained this to the dealership and never have they been able to find a problem, but I think the two are connected. The most recent safety-related issue was without notice, the high temp warning came on in very busy traffic and the car powered-down, presenting a significant safety hazard. THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL...
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. The vehicle then started losing motive power with the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle and noticed that smoke was coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000. The contact has stated that the vehicle is still being held at the dealers and has yet to be fixed.
I have owned this Ford for 3 years now. It uses coolent excessively and I have replaced many parts. The Catalyic Converter went out, all motor mounts, font and rear suspension, engine burp valve, faulty throttle body, fried drivers side bulb socket, wiper arms stripped, weather stipping corroding on windshield near hood, front window cracked and damaged, coolent temperature control sensor and firmwware update not automated and dealer charges $250 to update car software for engine improved performance. Sluggish, bogging and unresponsive car until software update and throttle body repair. All around a lemon for as many parts I've put on in a short amount of time. I've spent over $3300 on parts alone. The dealer in Upland services the cars oil but fails to fill the fluids, spills oil on my spark plugs and ruins the fasteners to the skid plate by over torqueing them. It has been the...
While driving on the highway at 65mph the engine began to fail. The Engine light came on and began flashing. I lost power in the engine, the car began to jerk and lost acceleration. Luckily I was able to make it to the side of the road and call for assistance. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop, the mechanic ran a diagnostic test. It was determined that there is internal engine failure. The car is at 113,000 miles and hadn't had any issues or warnings prior to this happening. The mechanics can not find what has caused the engine failure. I was told that the engine needs to be replaced at an estimated cost of 7000 dollars! This vehicle has been maintained and taken care of, it's very dangerous having an engine spontaneously fail while driving on the highway. The engine should not be failing at 113,000...
The mechanical brake booster is connected to the overhead cam on Fords Ecoboost engine. This part is a vacuum pump that is powered by the overhead cam shaft. Over time the vacuum pump begins to have issues and becomes increasingly harder for the cam to turn. As the vacuum pump slows, it causes the brakes to be less efficient and increases stopping distance. As the pump degrades, it eventually will fail and freeze up. When this happens, the internal connection to the overhead cam shaft shears off. This cause a complete loss of breaking power leaving only the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. It also drops the internal connectors from the vacuum pump into the motor which damages the motor to the point where the motor must be replaced at a very high cost (it exceeds $10,000). Fords warranty does not cover this design failure. Owners of these vehicles...
Coolant is being leaked into the engine, have to "top" off coolant every couple of weeks, no visible leaks underneath, engine light has come on, and there has been rough idling and driving experienced. Engine light will go off (on its own) and car will run ok, but happening more frequently and feel the inevitable is an engine replacement (was told that this is what will need to happen)
I'll be driving along and sometimes going 30 miles an hour sometimes going up to 65 70 miles an hour on the interstate And while I'm accelerating the car will start shaking like the the whole thing wil. In the only way that it stops is if I let off the accelerator and go slower speed accelerate you know what it means there's that magic speed but like if I have my cruise control on then it has to be at a certain speed because otherwise it will just start shaking and shaking and shaking
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?-Coolant/temperature sensor causing the vehicle to overheat, cylinder head to crack, and coolant leak into the engine. Safety jeopardized?-Yes, the car was then burning the coolant and it was entering the air and inhaled. Possible connection to a confirmed cancer case in the main driver. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?-Yes, it was reported to two separate Ford dealerships a total of 5 times. Each time the dealership told me they could not diagnose the problem. I took the car to an independent service center and it was confirmed the head was visibly cracked in 3 locations and the car was burning coolant and emitting it through the exhaust. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?-The vehicle has been to...
Car is losing coolant. Had pressure tested and am told there is no leak but the issue is a blown head gasket. No warning signs were present regarding this issue, posing a huge safety risk. Coolant is leaking into engine due to faulty gasket. I am told that this issue is extremely prevalent with other Ford EcoBoost engine models as well.
IN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF OPERATION THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE SPEEDS UP AND IF NOT EXPECTING IT A SURGE FORWARD COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SIMILIAR PROBLEMS ALMOST EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 This current recall, is not attached to the VIN for my Ford Escape and the car is in the shop for the exact issue. Ford said the NHSTA would have to attach the known recall to the VIN Ford Repair order 787886
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while idled and attempting to park in her driveway, there were flames coming from under the hood. The hood was opened and flames were visible from the engine. No warning lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle overheated, there was a cracked cylinder and an oil leak prior to the fire. The origin of the fire was unknown. The contact extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire department was not notified. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 100,000.
My vehicle suddenly displays a “Transmission Fault: Service Now” which rendered the vehicle unable to drive. The transmission has issues and it is a common issue among 2014 Ford Escapes. There should be a recall issued since it is a common problem. https://www.copilotsearch.com/posts/ford-escape-transmission-problems/ https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/cu2gki/i_need_advice_about_what_to_do_with_this_car_14/ Driving on a hill and all of the sudden car wouldn't go forward as the gear stopped shifting. Then the transmission gives out. It suddenly displayed "Transmission Fault: Service Now". Consumer was driving on a hill and all of the sudden the car wouldn't go forward as the gear stopped shifting. Then the transmission gives out. It suddenly displayed "Transmission Fault: Service Now".
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the transmission was previously replaced. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the driver's side rear door had fractured from daily use, and the contact had to continuously refill the coolant reservoir due to the loss of coolant in the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,024.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the engine was overheating and coolant started leaking from the vehicle. The warning light for the engine overheating was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
Engine shutoff in the middle of a busy road after having vehicle for 3 days.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the RPM fluctuated before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the roadway and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000
Owner was driving vehicle approximately 40-45 mph when a yellow light appeared on the dash and message 'powering down' came on. Owner pulled over opened the hood to find smoke and then flames which caused damage to their vehicle. Claim 31V4FM458
I own a 2014 Ford Escape with 60,000 miles on it. Upon turning on the vehicle, the check engine light came on. Several days later, also also upon turning on the vehicle, the dash showed a "low coolant" warning. Ford's mechanics inspected the vehicle and found that coolant was leaking into the Escape's engine. Their determination is that it needs a new engine. Ford had previously installed a coolant level sensor in the vehicle as part of a 2018 recall. The recall states that, "[i]f the vehicle is started and driven with an insufficient level of coolant within the engine cooling system, the engine cylinder head may overheat, crack and leak oil. If the cylinder head cracks and leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire." The sensor is unhelpful; it notifies you once the coolant is low - after...
Head gasket was damaged but little to no signs that it was malfunctioning. Only warning code was spark plugs. Replaced spark plugs but light kept turning on. If the mechanic had not looked deeper at the issue my safety would have been compromised due to lack of notifications when car was being diagnosed
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the low coolant warning light illuminated. The vehicle would also stall with a burning odor was present coming from the antifreeze. The contact added coolant and the warning light was no longer displayed. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the heater hose failed. The hose was replaced; however, the failure continued. The vehicle was returned to the dealer due to the coolant not circulating in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V431000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 115,189. Claim number is [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the spark plug in cylinder number four was welded into the head of the engine, causing an engine failure. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
Owner scheduled appointment with Lakeview Ford due to no heat in vehicle, stalling when fuel was full, an active indicator for airbags. They completed the repairs for total around $1500. Shop went to test drive and vehicle caught fire.
The car loses coolant but know leaks. The dash says coolant low so I add coolant to the reservoir and then it is fine till around a month and does it again so I do the same thing. Started doing it when got cold and use heater all the time. My daughter has a 2014 escape to and it is also doing it.
I have a coolant intrusion issue. This issue is causing a major problem to the engine and long block cylinders. This problem has occurred randomly causing the car to buffer, shut off on its own, and have white smoke come out of the exhaust and run terribly. I have taken this vehicle to multiple Ford Service centers in the last two years for its usual maintenance repairs and nobody has pointed out there has been an issue. My car is now in the shop with an $8,000 repair cost. Ford has decided to NOT fix the recall issue on my vehicle. This problem is a known issue for the 2014 Ford Escapes. I purchased this vehicle at Carmax and have paperwork saying there are 2 recalls associated with this vin. Manufacturer Number: 17S09 NHTSA Recall Number: 17V209 Recall Status: Recall incomplete The cycling head crack may cause an oil leak...
lost power, didn't seem to get into dive on freeway could't get power on to freeway when at a stop take time to get power up to a good speed Car at AAMCO for inspection needed to re build leaking bad brushing No did not get any warning warning light came on as i went to AAMCO of low coolant only
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated and shut off. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an air bubble in the coolant. The fluid was drained and refilled. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed that the cooling fan was inoperable. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was oil mixing with the coolant. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 51,479.
Coolant level sensor failed after repair for recall number 17S09. Mechanic reports that senior failed in same way as documented in the recall. However Ford refuses to conduct the repair a second time.
Lights come on for engine and gas pump while in motion throws vehicle to right at 55 mph when gas light comes one says empty all the time does at stops too slams into next gear shaking car badly with a bang it does often enough at 1/2 tank only or below but does not read more than 1/8 tank from full when filling up at pump all the time
In brief, It is my contention that safety recall# 17S09 service was not performed in its entirely on my vehicle and likely several others by the dealerships. The dealerships only replaced the engine coolant sensors & the motor mounts per their understanding of the recall instructions but did not replace the coolant system hoses as instructed in the Dec 13th correspondence to the dealers. After having several problems with coolant leakages in my vehicle which caused the check engine light to come on it was discovered that I had multiple hoses leaking. I spoke with a service manager at the dealership that performed my recall service in April/2018 about the hoses not being replaced which was my current problem? I was informed this was not what the dealerships were instructed to do by Ford Motors in their recall notices to them. Two different dealerships I visited were oblivious to this...
2014 Ford Escape presents with major engine cooling system issues for several years despite regular repair and maintenance to these systems. Heat blows cold unless driving 55 mph or more and coolant needs to be replaced every two weeks during the fall and winter. Engine coolant leaks onto engine block despite regular repair for several years. Serious safety hazard possible due to this.
It is an ongoing issue with the 2014 escape. They had a recall out for the coolant system. A healthy engine does not use coolant. I kept having it checked it had no visible leaks but was losing coolant No visible leaks. I got an engine light I took the car to Ford dealer here in Scarborough Toronto he told me the car coolant has been leaking into engine blocks. The dealer is claiming it has nothing to do with the recall. Ford won't fix it and is saying it's not part of the recall. They are saying I have to replace my whole engine. It is a 2014 Ford escape with 110000Km on it.
