THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT FAILED TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTOR PUMP SEAL WAS LEAKING DARK BROWN OIL WITH METAL FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE'S SENSORS WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND CATCH FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN REPAIRED THE LEAK, BUT THE COMPUTER SENSOR WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE IGNITION HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION FROM START TO OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE STARTED. ONCE THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOM WOOD FORD (3130 96TH STREET, INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46240, 888-714-6941) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE.
