2012 FORD EDGE Electrical System Problems

The first incident occurred in GA on vacation in June. While my spouse was driving, he said the brakes seemed squishy and were not right. When he braked to stop the car to get gas, his foot went almost to the floor. After getting gas, I drove and they did not seem right. The second incident happened the beginning of August and I was coming down a relatively steep hill. I went to brake and my foot went all the way to the floor and did not completely stop. I took the car to my mechanic and he wasn't sure of the problem, and to another mechanic. The 2nd thought it was the brake booster. I then took it to the Ford dealership where I bought it last August and had them look at it. They said it is the ABS module and that I am #829 on the list...

There was no warning stated in the dash, but I went to drive my car one day and the brakes were sunk to the floor. I drove it around carefully for a little bit and realized the brake pedal built pressure if it was constantly being pressed, however, it would lose the pressure instantly. I got the brakes bled and replaced a brake line since I had replaced both of the rear calipers prior (no issues there and no issues with brake pads or the brakes themselves). A few weeks went by and I lost the pressure again instantly. I called the mechanic to take a look and they replaced the brake booster and master cylinder and bled the brakes. 2012 Ford Edge -The passenger door will shut but the alarm that came with the car says that the door is not shut. The alarm will not work when the car detects the door is not shut, so the interior lights will not turn off. Will this affect my battery? When I drive with the sensor on the dashboard states the door is not closed and the interior light will not shut off which becomes a distraction at night. When driving the car, the locks will not work because the dashboard senses the door is not closed. This is a family car with a child still in a car seat. Anyone can jump in my car? The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the front driver's side and passenger's side door latches failed to close the doors securely; causing the interior cabin light to remain illuminated. The failure caused the battery to be drained. The contact stated that the battery was replaced three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

2 months after I purchased this vehicle in 2021, I noticed soft brakes, the vehicle displayed low oil pressure it locked up and turned off. Proper oil was added and the brakes appeared normal afterwards. Around mid August 2022, I noticed that when I put pressure on brakes to slow the vehicle, the peddle would sink slowly to the floor and hard to slow vehicle down. So brakes were inspected and the rear brake pads were worn all the way down and the front brakes were like new.. All four brake pads were replaced with new pads. Well this did not correct the problem. I would still hear a swoosh from the brake peddle when releasing and brakes continued to slowly sink to floor.. So the master cylinder and the vacuum booster were replaced, brake lines were bled over 10 times and problem was still not corrected. No warning lights...

While driving. the all wheel drive off and wrench lights up on the car dash screen. The car stalls and comes to stop. If I wait a minute it starts up. It repeatedly does this, then it will be okay for some time before it does again. I’ve. Had it at Ford garage, they say can’t duplicate or find anything on the scanner. It’s dangerous to drive this way. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

The door ajar sensor is faulty. The lights stay on in the car even after the door is closed. This is a safety risk when driving at night. While driving the audible ding will go off while driving causing a distraction from driving. There was a recall issued but it has expired even though the issue is still existent. Ford says they will not cover the cost of the repair because it is expired even though we received no notification of the recall.

the throttle body has failed, suspected by me doing research going back 11 years of the Ford Edge almost killing people while driving it. confirmed by my local ford dealership that i do infact need a new throttle body and gaskets. it goes into limp mode, the car loses power and stops working in the middle of driving 50 mph. I was driving the car approximately 35 MPH the car completely shut down. A couple of days later while accelerating from a stop sign it completely shut off again.

This is my 20 year old daughter's car. She attends college in another state. Recently, the door ajar light comes on and will not go off. This prevents her from locking her doors, all of them! Not while driving, and not when parked. The closes all doors and tries to lock the car, and the passenger side "door ajar" light remains on, even though the door is closed and shut tight. SAFETY ISSUE DOOR AJAR LIGHT NOT TURNING OFF WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION POSING A SAFETY THREAT TO FAMILY. BATTERY HAS DIED MULTIPLE DAYS TIMES AND REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY.

THIS IS NOW MY SECOND DOOR TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE "DOOR AJAR" MESSAGE/ALERT COMES ON WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THE FIRST TIME WAS DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR. THIS TIME IS THE DRIVER DOOR. THIS MESSAGE DOES NOT GO AWAY WHEN I DRIVE. IT TELLS ME TO SHIFT TO PARK. IT CHIMES AT ME EVERY TIME I COME TO A STOP. IT MAKES MY DOME LIGHTS STAY ON. THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR IS SENDING FALSE SIGNALS THAT THE DRIVERS DOOR IS OPEN WHEN THEY ARE IN FACT IT IS CLOSED. THE FAULTY SENSOR TRIGGERS AN AUDIBLE WARNING, ACTIVATES A WARNING LIGHT AND CAUSES A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MISTAKENLY BELIEVES THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED (THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE RECENTLY WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT; VERY SCARY). DOME LIGHTS STAY ON, BATTERY IS DRAINED AND AT TIME DOORS UNLOCK AND CANNOT BE MANUALLY RE-LOCKED. THREE YEARS AGO I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED ($380). THREE YEARS LATER, THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING.

I GET READY TO START MY DAY AS USUAL I GO AND START MY VEHICLE (STATIONARY) TO WARM IT UP, AS I GOT READY TO SET THE TEMPERATURE IN THE SUV I NOTICED THE BOTTOM TOUCH PANEL DID NOT LIGHT UP. SO I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE HEAT THAT WAS BLOWING AND IT DIDNT TURN OFF, I TRIED AND AGAIN AND NOTHING. MY FAMILY AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY DESTINATION AFTERWARDS I HAD THE FUSES TESTED THEY ARE GOOD, BUT WAS TOLD IT IS FRONT INTERFACE CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND HOPEFULLY A FORD DEALERSHIP CAN GIVE A BETTER DIAGNOSIS THAN AUTO...

THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH WARNING LIGHT COME ON THE DASH WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR AND WILL NOT GO OFF. UNTIL SEVERAL CLOSING ATTEMPS AND IT IS VERY ANNOYING BECAUSE THE OVERHEAD COURTESY LIGHTS AND THE WARNING CHIME CONTINUES EVERY FEW SECONDS.I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CONTAGIOUS WITH THIS MAKE AND YEAR FORD. RECENTLY PURCHASED VEHICLE WITHIN LAST 6 MONTHS AND NOTICED SOME OF THESE ARE COMMON PROBLEMS THROUGHOUT THE FORD EDGE COMMUNITY.

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR KEEP SAYING AJAR EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THE DOOM LIGHT WON'T GO OUT AND IT KILLS THE BATTERY. I CHECKED ON YOUTUBE AND OTHERS BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS ISSUE. WHEN THAT DIDN'T WORK, IT BECAME AN ISSUE BECAUSE MY INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULDN'T GO OFF AFTER LEAVING THE CAR. I HAD TO BREAK THE PART TO GET MY LIGHTS TO GO OFF SO I DIDN'T DRAIN MY BATTERY OVERNIGHT.

DOOR AJAR SENSOR KEEPS GOING OFF, DRAINS BATTERY, LEAVES ME STRANDED - HUGE ISSUE FOR A FAMILY!

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK AFTER DROPPING OUR 2 YEAR OLD OFF AT GRANDMAS. SHE WENT TO SLOW FOR A STALE GREEN LIGHT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY SHE WAS ALMOST TO WORK AT THIS POINT. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY SHOP. REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER BECAUSE IT HAS A KNOWN ISSUE ( NO RECALL JUST WARRANTY EXTENSION), ALSO REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER BECAUSE THIS WAS CLEARLY A HYDRAULIC FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME THAT NIGHT WITH A GOOD PEDAL UNTIL I GET TO THE OFF RAMP, AT 70 MILES AN HOUR THERE IS NO LONGER ANY BRAKE PEDAL AND HAD TO USE THE TRANSMISSION TO SAFELY SLOW THE VEHICLE. NOW MY WIFE IS TERRIFIED TO DRIVE HER VEHICLE IN FEAR THAT THE PEDAL IS THERE ONE MINUTE AND GONE THE NEXT.

VEHICLE DISPLAYS A WARNING "VEHICLE COOLANT OVER TEMPERATURE" THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED TWICE AND THE TECHNICIANS CLAIMED NOT TO HAVE BEEN ABLE REPRODUCE THE ERROR AND ALSO CLAIMED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS NOT "SPITTING" OUT ANY ERRORS. THE MESSAGE DISPLAYS WITHIN THE FIRST FILE MILES AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY FOR MORE THAN 2 HOURS AND IT IS DISPLAYED FOR 10-20 SECONDS.

THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR IS ALWAYS ON. WHEN I START DRIVING THE LIGHTS ARE ON UNTIL I MOVE A FEW FEET. I AM NOT ABLE TO LOCK MY DOORS OR USE MY REMOTE START. IT HAS KILLED MY BATTERY. WHEN MY CAR IS PARKED AND TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND OFF RANDOMLY.

FILED DOOR AJAR COMPLAINT WITH NHTS SEPTEMBER 24, 2014 #10638797. HAD PROBLEM REPAIRED MARCH 15, 2015. COST $245.93. SAME ISSUE OCCURING AGAIN. THIS TIME THE DOOR AJAR WARNING WILL NOT GO OFF UNLESS THE CAR IS IN GEAR AND WE OPEN THE DOOR AND CLOSE IT. NOT SAFE TO BE TRAVELING AND OPENING AND CLOSING A DOOR TO GET DOOR AJAR WARNING TO TURN OFF.

DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SENSOR. VEHICLE WARNING LIGHT DAYS DRIVER'S DOOR IS OPEN WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY CLOSED. PROBLEM PREVENTS AUTO DOOR LOCKS TO ENGAGE AND KEEPS INTERIOR LIGHTS ON WHEN DOOR IS LOCKED AND IGNITION IS OFF CAUSING BATTERY DRAIN.
