The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that all four door latches were inoperable, causing the door ajar light to remain illuminated. The contact stated that the failure caused the battery to be drained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,862.
I believe the sunroof package to be defective as well as the electric system that is connected to the systems. I have brought the issue up with the dealership and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on the part to report any issues. I believe this is a safety issue as the windows and back gate open without prompt. I don't use the sunroof because it hasn't opened since a short time after my purchase. When the sunroof opened I tried to close it and the element that closes it popped above my head and threw the panoramic glass off the track. I took the vehicle in to point of purchase and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on it to tell me whether it was safe to close or not. So if this could be resolved I would appreciate it. MY 2012 FORD EDGE CONTINUES TO ALERT AS I AM DRIVING THAT MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IN REALITY IT IS NOT. I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS BECAUSE IT DISTRACTS ME AS I AM DRIVING DUE TO THE RED ALERT POSTED ON THE PANEL ALONG WITH THE HIGH PITCH BEEP/ALARM AS THE WARNING. I THAN HAVE TO CONTINUALLY HIT THE RESET BUTTON WITH MY LEFT THUMB IN ORDER TO SILENCE THE WARNING UNTIL IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN WITHIN SECONDS. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT SEEMS THAT IT IS VERY COMMON WITHIN THESE FORD VEHICLES. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF THIS COULD BE ADDRESSED AS A RECALL. I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND AT 9 MPH MY DOORS AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. THEY ALL LOCKED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MY REAR DRIVER DOOR. THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WAS STILL LIT ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I OPENED THE DOOR AND RECLOSED IT SEVERAL TIMES. A FEW HARDER AND A FEW LIGHTER SLAMS AND IT NEVER WENT OFF. THE LIGHT STAYS LIT FOR A FEW DAYS TO A FEW HOURS AND COMES AND GOES OFF AS IT PLEASES. I HAVE EVEN REFRAINED FROM USING THAT DOOR AND IT WILL STILL GO OFF AND LIGHT UP WHEN IT WANTS. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL POSTS ON THE INTERNET OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD VEHICLES: F150, EDGE, RANGER AND ESCAPE NEWER YEAR MODELS FROM 2007 TO CURRENT. IT IS VERY ANNOYING BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T TURN OFF THERE IS A BEEPING SOUND GOING ON WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING ASKING YOU TO PULL ASIDE AND CLOSE THE DOOR AGAIN. THE ALERT FOR 'DRIVER DOOR AJAR' COMES ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF, REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY TIMES AND/OR HOW HARD/SOFT THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO STAY ON AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. I AM NOW DRIVING AROUND, IGNORING THE ALERT, WHICH IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I COULD POTENTIALLY BE DRIVING WITH A DOOR THAT IS NOT LATCHED PROPERLY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY. THANK GOD IT IS NOT THE DOOR THAT MY SON USES.
