Seat headrest popped out while driving. First it was the passanger seat and the driver seat followed. Part is broken and unable to be popped in.
The passenger seat head rest exploded without any impact to the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was sitting in the passenger seat at the time it exploded because it could have caused a head injury. After checking on the head rest, the plastic pin that kept it together broke.
The head rest exploded out of no where - sounded like a gunshot while I was driving and pushed my whole head forward .
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passenger Active Head Restraints (AHR) deployed for no reason. I was sitting in in the passenger side seat talking to my wife, in the driveway, when the AHR deployed without cause. The head restraint struck me on the back left side of head with force. My neck is starting to stiffen up. Yes it is available for inspection. I will send pictures. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Active headrest deployed on its own. Never been in an accident. Dealer has verified. Unable to use seat because headrest sits too far forward. Fortunately my son wasn't sitting in the seat when it happened.
While causally driving down the road, without warning, the passenger headrest on my 2013 Dodge Durango violently "exploded" forward. Thankfully, my son who was riding in the passenger seat, was sleeping with his head bent forward so it didn't hit him. Upon inspection (by myself), the active head restraint feature is held together by PLASTIC, which obviously failed. I searched on the internet and this appears to be a common problem, and each time it's due to this plastic clip failing. This is totally unacceptable. I have the headrest available for inspection. It was brought to the dealer who wants $950 to replace it. They said the warranty expired less than a year ago. Again based on internet research, apparently Dodge/Chysler just recently extended the warranty to 10 years for 2014 models (and possibly 2013?). The active head rest restraint deployed on the driver side while driving. The plastic holding the rod failed causing this to happen. Not very safe and concerned about the passenger side deploying.
Was sitting in the car while parked and the drivers side headrest deployed.

I was driving about 40 miles per hour when the front passenger seat headrest exploded. The front cushion of the headrest just blew off. The seat no longer has a functional headrest. Now the airbag light is on.
Was parked at school when the headrest on the passenger front seat just deployed and hit my husband in the back of the head. It just popped, sounded like a shot went off.

While my wife was driving the passenger seat headrest popped out for no apparent reason. The headrest will not pop into place. We are concerned with the remaining headrest in the car for fear they will pop out at any moment. The headrest has opened and nothing caused that to happen.
Driver seat Headrest “exploded” open while I was driving, no one else was in the car, there were no warning lights that this was going to happen. The headrest remains in the same state if inspection is needed.
Passenger side head restraint "exploded". We were backing out of a parking space and the thing popped open; no collision or sudden stop, just backing up.
I was sitting in the vehicle while it was in park, idling, and the driver’s seat active headrest suddenly deployed. Nothing struck the vehicle to cause it to jar suddenly. I was sitting in my kids’ school parking lot dropping them off. When looking inside the deployed headrest, it seems like there is a broken plastic piece that possibly works to keep the headrest “latched.”

THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST SAFETY FEATURE DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS SITTING STATIONARY (PARKED) ON A CITY STREET. THE SAFETY FEATURE IS DESIGNED TO DEPLOY DURING A REAR END ACCIDENT TO PREVENT WHIPLASH. THE HEADREST BURST OPEN STRIKING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITHOUT THERE BEING ANY REAR END COLLISION OR MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS ALSO NO ONE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE HEADREST TO DEPLOY. I CONTACTED TWO DODGE DEALERSHIPS TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. THE TWO DEALERSHIPS WERE UNAWARE OF ANY RECALLS OR ISSUES FOR MY VEHICLE. THE REPLACEMENT/REPAIR COST WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE.
MY WIFE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND GOT HIT IN THE BACK OF HEAD BY THE HEADREST. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE SO THERE'S NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. IT GAVE HER A PRETTY GOOD HEADACHE TOO.

THE PASSENGERS HEADREST WAS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE WHEN THIS OCCURED. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED BODILY DAMAGE IF PASSENGER WAS IN PLACE. DODGE HAS INFORMED US THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THEY DISCONTINUED THIS PART. PASSENGER SEAT NO LONGER SAFE BECAUSE NO REPLACE IS AVAILABLE. HEADREST SHOULDN'T DEPLOY ON ITS OWN.

THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING TO HER RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE, SHE BECAME AWARE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HEADREST WAS GAPED OPEN. THE CONTACT CALLED MARMIE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 1724 10TH ST, GREAT BEND, KS 67530, (620) 792-2571 AND MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DEPLOYED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. WE WERE TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE PASSENGER WAS HIT ON THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND HAD A SEVERE HEADACHE. THERE WAS NO NOR HAS THERE BEEN ANY REAR COLLISION. AFTER EXAMINING THE INSIDE OF THE RESTRAINT I COULD SEE BROKEN PIECES OF PLASTIC THAT APPEARED TO HAD BEEN KEEPING IT TOGETHER.
ON JULY 10, 2020, WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ON A STRAIGHT HIGHWAY, MY DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED INTO THE BACK OF MY HEAD CAUSING A SEVERE HEADACHE. I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT JUST RANDOMLY DEPLOYED. I HAVE SINCE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ISSUED FOR IT. I AM NOW FORCED TO PAY FOR A REPAIR THAT IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE PASSENGER HEADREST DOES THE SAME. I PURCHASED A 2013 DODGE DURANGO FROM NEW SMYRNA BEACH CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP AT THE END OF JULY 2018. THE MORNING AFTER WE PURCHASED IT THE CAR WASN'T ACTING RIGHT AND WOULDN'T START. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE UP THERE UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST THEY FINALLY REPLACE THE FUEL RELAY PUMP. I GOT A LETTER SAYING THAT THERE'S A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND THE PART THAT WAS PUT IN WAS A PART OF THE RECALL. MY VEHICLE STARTED ACTING FUNNY AND DOING THE SAME THINGS THAT IT DID LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES TO WORK AFTERWARDS, ADJUSTING THE SEAT A BIT SO AS NOT TO IMPEDE MY POSTURE.

MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST CAME APART AND HIT MY HUSBAND IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. ALL HE DID WAS SIT IN THE SEAT, THERE WAS NO IMPACT OF ANY SORT AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION.

WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND WITH NO COLLISION, FRONT PASSENGER ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT ON 2013 DODGE DURANGO CITADEL SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED. LUCKILY, PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT IN USE AT THE TIME. HEAD RESTRAINT CANNOT BE RESET, BECAUSE PLASTIC HOLDING BRACKET IS NOW BROKEN.

AFTERWARDS, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A HEAD AND NECK INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER (POSNER PARK CHRYSLER DODGE, 42650 HIGHWAY 27, DAVENPORT, FL) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 5, AND TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HEAD REST UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED- STRIKING THE PERSON SEATED IN THAT SEAT IN THE HEAD. THANKFULLY, IT WAS NOT THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST AS THIS UNEXPECTED IMPACT TO THE HEAD MAY HAVE CAUSED A REACTION RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN CHECKING ONLINE, THERE APPEAR TO MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF THIS TYPE OF UNNECESSARY DEPLOYMENT OF THIS TYPE OF SAFETY DEVICE ON DODGE VEHICLES OF THIS ERA.
BACKING OUT OF GARAGE AND TH DRIVERS SIDE HEAD REST EJECTED. NO REAR IMPACT OR ANYTHING. IT HIT ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND SCARED ME TO DEATH. TOOK THE CAR BY THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ZIP TIED IT TOGETHER.
HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT TO VEHICLE. HEADREST DAMAGED AS A RESULT. NOT ABLE TO RESET DUE TO DAMAGE CAUSED. IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND NOT RUNNING AT THE TIME OF DEPLOYMENT.
