The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power in the middle of the road. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure reoccurred consistently. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V284000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 195,000.
I WENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE CAGE IS SEVERELY ROTTING AWAY AND DRIVING MY CAR IS A ROAD HAZARD. I ONLY HAVE 138,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT DIES...BUT RIGHT NOW I WAS TOLD THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NO LONGER MADE AND I WOULD HAVE TO FIND A SALVAGE CAR TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART. THE QUADRANT REMAINS THAT I BOUGHT A USED CAR FROM A CHRYSLER DEALER THAT SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE RECALL ON THIS PART DUE TO IT NOT BEING MANUFACTURED CORRECTLY FOR CORROSION RESISTANCE. MY ENGINE CRADLE IS RUSTED/ROTTED OUT AND COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS TOLD IT CAN'T PASS INSPECTION AND WILL BE APPROXIMATELY $2,000 TO FIX. I TOOK MY CAR TO A SHOP FOR REPAIRS, AND THE MECHANIC WAS ALARMED TO FIND THAT THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED UNDER THE ENGINE THAT HE DEEMED IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. UPON EXAMINATION WE ARE TOLD THAT A MOTOR MOUNT IS LEAKING AND THAT THE SUPPORTING FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THRU AND SAID THEY WONT REPAIR THE MOTOR MOUNT WITHOUT REPLACING THE SUB FRAME. THEY TELL US THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS THEY HAVE A ISSUE BUT ONLY WILL REPAIR A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF THE VEHICLES THAT ARE AFFECTED. APPARENTLY, THE PROCESS USED TO COAT THE PIECE WAS INSUFFICIENT, WHICH HAS LEAD TO CORROSION PROBLEMS IN AN UNKNOWN NUMBER OF VEHICLES. THIS IS AN UPDATE ON THE COMMON ENGINE CRADLE RUST ISSUE OF THE 2004-2005 PACIFICAS. I JUST HAD THE ENGINE CRADLE ON MY 2005 PACIFICA REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. A MICROMETER ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEMATIC AREA OF THE ENGINE CRADLE REVEALS THAT IT RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, INDICATING THAT THE PROBLEM WAS INDEED DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE RUST-PROOFING PROCESS AT MANUFACTURE, AND NOT DUE DO RUSTING WHICH OCCURS THROUGH THE NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH WOULD DEVELOP FROM THE OUTSIDE AND WORK ITS WAY INWARD. HIS VISUAL INSPECTION, AS WELL AS MINE, SHOWED MORE THEN 75% OF THE PASSENGER SIDE CRADLE RUSTED AWAY. AN OPEN CASE # 25736224 HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SUPPORT. MY PACIFICA WAS PRODUCED SEPTEMBER 30, 2004 WHICH IS OUTSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY DATES ESTABLISHED BY CHRYSLER FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. FAILURE OF THE CROSS MEMBER (CRADLE) WOULD CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING, ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION FAILURE, AND SEVERED BRAKE LINES. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, DISCOVERED SEVERE CORROSION TO ENGINE CRADLE. POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE CRADLE, CAUSING A COLLAPSE. TECHNICIAN AT DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED NO LONGER DRIVING VEHICLE, STATING IT WAS UNSAFE. CAR IS OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, HAVING BEEN GARAGED AND CAREFULLY MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT ITS LIFETIME. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. NO NOTIFICATION WAS PROVIDED TO ME BY CHRYSLER THAT THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT CHRYSLER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR YEARS BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO ASSIST WITH REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE CRADLE. A LETTER WAS DRAFTED BY CHRYSLER COVERING CERTAIN 2004-2005 PACIFICAS WITHIN 10 YEARS OF PURCHASE OR 150,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE FALLS INTO THIS CATEGORY, SINCE IT IS LESS THAN 9 YEARS OLD, AND HAD 100,000 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF DISCOVERY OF CORROSION. WHILE GETTING OIL CHANGED, MECHANIC NOTICED PERFORATION RUST AND CRACKING DUE TO CORROSION ON THE ENGINE CRADLE. WHILE CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL ON SELECTED 2005 PACIFICA FOR THIS ISSUE, I CONTACTED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. WITH MINE BEING THE SAME YEAR AND SHOWING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS WAS COVERED IN THE RECALL, I THINK THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE GENERAL RECALL. *TR
RETURNED FROM MECHANIC ON A MAINTENANCE ISSUE, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE MY "K FRAME" , THE FRONT ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED, NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE- UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE FOR SAME ISSUE. I HOLD A COPY OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH ONLY COVERS VEHICLES MADE IN A 6 WEEK TIME PERIOD FOR THE SAME ISSUE, MY PACIFICA WAS MADE 8/16/04 HAS BECOME INELIGIBLE. I WAS LUCKY MY GARAGE TOLD ME OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY, AN INFERIOR PRODUCT THAT WAS USED MORE THAN JUST IN A 6 WEEK TIME FRAME. *TR
MY MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE SUB FRAME THAT HOLDS THE ENGINE ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA HAS EXTENSIVE CORROSION AND HAS A HOLE IN IT THE SIZE OF A PERSON'S FIST. HE SAID THAT THE CORROSION PROTECTION WAS OBVIOUSLY INADEQUATE AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT. HE SAID I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE IT AND IT WILL NOT BE AN INEXPENSIVE JOB. HE SAID THEIR SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
FRONT ENGINE CRADLE THERE WAS A LETTER SENT BY CHRYSLER BACK IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 THAT "WE ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON YOUR FRONT ENGINE CRADLE BECAUSE SOME VEHICLES OPERATED IN AREAS OF HIGH ROAD SALT USAGE, MAY EXPERIENCE ENGINE CRADLE CORROSION RESULTING IN A DRIVEABILITY VIBRATION AND OR SHAKE. THIS ENGINE CRADLE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE APPLIES TO CHRYSLER PACIFICA MODEL YEARS 2004-2005." I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER TWICE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR IS NOT IN THE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE AND I JUST PAID OVER $2450 TO HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED. *TR
I TOOK MY 2005 PACIFICA FOR A OIL CHANGE IN NOV.2013 MECHANIC CALLED ME OVER TO SHOW ME THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS DANGEROUSLY ROTTED AND I WOULD PROBABLY NEED TO REPLACE IT BEFORE THE ENGINE FELL OUT! IT WAS THE ONLY THING THAT WAS RUSTY UNDER THE CAR. I BELIEVE THE METAL IT WAS MADE OF WAS DEFECTIVE, OR LOW QUALITY. *TR
WHILE GETTING A SAFETY INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS CONSIDERABLE RUST ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ENGINE CRADLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE AND THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS BUILT OUTSIDE OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS GIVEN TO OTHER 2004 & 2005 PACIFICAS FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. AFTER MUCH CHECKING I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 55 (MPH) WHEN I WENT OVER A POTHOLE. AFTER THAT MY CAR STARTED MAKING A RATTLING NOISE. MY MECHANIC CHECKED THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION BUT THEN HE DISCOVERED THAT THE WHOLE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED AND TOLD ME IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL I MADE THE PROPER REPAIRED WHICH IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE ENGINE CRADLE. *TR

OWN A 2005CHRYSLER PACIFICA LIMITED FULLY LOADED WHICHWAS PURCHASED NEW. THE CAR WAS BUILT IN AUGUST 2004. I TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION IN DECEMBER 2013 AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ENGINE CRADLE SUPPORTING THE ENGINE WAS BADLY CORRODED AND WOULD NEED REPLACED TO PASS INSPECTION AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS DEFECT IN CARS MADE IN A 6 WK PERIOD AND AWARDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THESE VEHICLES BUT NOT MINE.. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CHEAP MATERIAL USED IN PRODUCTION AND I SHOULD GIVEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE ENGINE CRADLE OR SUBFRAME IS ENTIRELY RUSTED THROUGH, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THEY ENGINE COULD LIKELY FALL THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THE HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME IS LARGE ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR HAND THROUGH ON ONE SIDE AND CRACKING ON THE OTHER. *TR
