Truck was stopped. Then as I started pressing on the gas pedal, there was a warning sound. The gear selector knob rotated on its own from D to P and the message on the screen said to start / stop the vehicle to put it back in gear D. This put myself and my family at risk of a car accident as we were merging onto an expressway. This happened while the truck was starting to accelerate. This is the second time this happens.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The issue involved the truck’s parking and collision avoidance systems, which suddenly shut off. A warning message appeared on the dashboard stating "Service Shifter." This issue may be related to the electronic shifter module or associated control systems. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -The sudden deactivation of both the parking and collision systems while the vehicle was in motion created a serious safety hazard. Without collision avoidance functionality and the ability to securely park the vehicle, there was increased risk of unintentional vehicle movement or inability to avoid obstacles, which could have led to a crash or injury. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes, the truck was taken to an...
Driving 60mph in 8th gear while raining, 40 deg F, in Minnesota. The truck shut off (I did not press the Start/Stop button) and dash said "Vehicle Not in Park." Went to pull over, put on turn signals, but they didn't work (it acted like the vehicle was completely shut off but was still rolling at 50+ mph in 8th gear - there was no indication on the dash that showed green light indicating turn signal was working). I suspect brake lights also did not work at this time, but cannot confirm because I couldn't see them. I pulled over to shoulder, slowed to a stop, and put vehicle into Park manually. Pressed Stop/Start button and vehicle started. No codes were thrown. Drove another 2-3 miles and similar issue happened again. Display flashed on and off (then completely turned off) when coming to a stop this time. Vehicle stayed running...
I took my truck into my mechanic for a loud whining noise coming from my engine bay. I was told my alternator is going out. I have a 2019 ram 1500 5.7L v8 with the e-torque system. Part number 68438054AB or 68623194AB. This part you can literally buy from no one. Not a dodge dealership, mopar or any other website. There is about 1 listing I saw for a used one which was $1000 over what a new one would cost. If this part goes out I’m fully unable to use my truck which has 56,000 miles and is my only means of transportation. I have absolutely no chance of buying this part from anyone or anywhere at this current time. I can barely afford to buy the part even if it was available and I surely can’t afford to pay for a rental car or another car in the...
I am filing a formal complaint regarding a critical safety defect in my 2019 Ram eTorque, which posed a severe risk to my pregnant wife while she was driving. The vehicle’s battery unexpectedly failed, resulting in a complete loss of power steering and all safety functions, creating a hazardous situation in the middle of the roadway that could have led to a serious accident. This defect is not isolated. My truck has been at the repair shop for over two months, as the necessary replacement part is on backorder due to over 3,000 reported vehicles affected by the same issue. The widespread nature of this defect and the unavailability of parts amplify the risk of injury or fatality to drivers and passengers. I urge the Safety Advisory Board to investigate this defect urgently, focusing on the significant safety implications and the high number of affected vehicles. Immediate action is needed...
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine, with a message that the "Fuel/Air Ration Imbalance" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the rocker arm bearings and lifters needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, several warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the windshield wipers activated independently, the power steering assist had failed, and the vehicle failed to stop while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, with the "Service Transmission, Continue to Drive, “Do not Shift or Turn off Engine,” and "No Buss" messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact initially inspected the vehicle and determined that the battery, relays, and fuses were...
The star connector on the CAN C BUS will start to have communication problems with the all the systems on that star connector approximately after about 15 to 20 min after driving. Systems that were constantly going in and out were the front and rear parking sense, ABS and traction would go out. Service shifter message, caused the transmission to up shift while driving at a constant speed. After getting a check engine light, I hooked up my code reader and had a code for the park sense control module. I proceeded to replace that module and was unable to get the code to go away. Upon further investigation, I found a history code for the CAN C BUS PERFORMANCE code and researched on this topic in the forums with other owners of the same truck and looked for any maintenance for this topic as well. These owners would have...
While driving the freeway at 70 mph, the truck flashed a message to service shifter. Windshield wipers starting going on their own, all messages popped up on dashboard, and the vehicle started gradually slowing down posing a safety issue. Speedometer was going from 0-50 mph back and forth and steering wheel was hard to maneuver. I was able to get off the freeway and into the frontage safely. However, turning the vehicle was a hassle and even more so when I tried to drive in to a parking lot to get to a safer area since the truck wouldn’t respond to the gas pedal nor would the steering wheel cooperate. If I wanted to turn it left it jerked on its own to the right. Vehicle shut off on its own and wouldn’t power back on after that. Tow truck had to be called and was told this was a...
My 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie truck started throwing a check engine light recently while also occasionally being put into "battery saver mode". I went to the dealership to have it checked. The issue is a malfunctioning alternator / generator unit (Mobile Generator Unit) which is a key component of the eTorque system. The dealer said the repair protocol is to replace the MGU. The problem is that there are literally no parts available in the US with no known ETA. The best approximation is 6 months or more. The waitlist is literally more than 3,000 customers. There is clearly a problem with the part and it seems like they aren't currently producing any more which is growing the problem. So, I'm now left with a very bad option - continue driving the truck and risk the MGU failing at any point and causing a serious accident. I have been in...
The “alternator” is failing on these pickups. The Dodge Mopar says it’s back ordered by 5,000 units of these! 5,000! And have no date to tell you when it will be available . As I scour the internet, 1000’s of people are stranded with almost new pickups , with no way to fix them. We are one of them. I don’t understand how Dodge can be trusted.
Instrument panel display screen is often blank, or unreadable
04.22.25- back to back stalls on left hand turns within a 1 mile trip First stall landed me in a ditch less than foot from an oak tree. Coasted a bit before a sudden stop. Second stall allowed me to make it to side street before it abruptly stopped. Prior drive previous day had no issues and no warning lights.
This is the second random stall event for this vehicle. 2019 Ram 1500 with 33,300 miles. Yesterday, 4 /18/25, while taking a left turn from a parking lot at low speed, the vehicle lost all power. I was able to coast to the side of the street. Put the vehicle in park, waited approximately 1 minute, vehicle restarted and seemed to run fine. The first time it stalled it was towed to the dealer and since they could find no stored faults, there was nothing they could do.
While driving down a curving mountain highway above 70 mph, the gauge cluster displayed “shift to park” or “shift to drive” I don’t recall exactly. The transmission then downshifted dramatically, perhaps into 3rd gear, then the motor shut off.Thankfully, I successfully merged through heavy traffic to the narrow shoulder but the truck would not restart. After over 30 minutes of attempts (fuel tank above half)I called a tow truck. My family climbed up the hill to get a safe distance from the road. It was cold and dark and things could have gone much worse. Ram owners on internet forums have described this exact problem many times and it’s clear that this is a wide spread safety issue. This is the second time the truck had lost power while driving in the same manner. The first time the dealer could not replicate the issue while it was under warranty and...
My alternator went out driving down the interstate. No indication that it was bad up until it died. Has been sitting at a dealership for about a month due to this particular part having almost 3000 on back order.
Ram Rebel suffers from “Service Shifter” warning frequently; occasionally pits itself into neutral and requires to be put into park; front and rear park assist seem to be associated with this fault as well as it disables and enables randomly. Major electrical issue with shifter/transmission issues and parking sensors.
Etorque MGU whine originating from the alternator portion of the device.
While taking a right turn into a busy intersection, vehicle lost all power and dash lights lit up indicating to put the vehicle in park. I put the vehicle in park and attempted to restart it. The vehicle starter cranked but did not start. I was able to roll the truck back by using the manual transmission release to get out of traffic. I disconnected the battery and waited approximately 5 minutes, reconnected battery, vehicle would start momentarily then stall. Had vehicle towed to dealership where they were able to start it and found no issue.
The truck has stuttered since I bought it when downshifting when cold. Sometimes when it sputters during a downshift it will display the message “ship to p and select gear”. Meaning the vehicle has shifted from drive on its own. The only way to engage drive is to stop and select drive. This has happened on the freeway a couple of times and the dealer says they cannot isolate the issue.
The alternator bearing is failing. Stellantis no longer has a supplier to order new alternators from. There is no option to replace this part. The vehicle is 5 years old. I feel this is a safety concern because if and when I eventually lose all electrical power, my passengers and me will be in an uncontrollable vehicle or, best case, a broke down vehicle on the side of the road.
I Have only had this truck for 2 months. I was driving and making a turn and the electrical power steering stopped working and the steering wheel locked. I almost crashed and drove into a ditch with my whole family in the truck. Including a [XXX]. I had to slam on the breaks and barely able to keep the truck from crashing. Dashboard said " Power Steering unavailable Service Required". I turned off the truck and restarted it to see if it would fix the issue. It did not. I drove the rest of the way home going slow with the hazard lights on. Steering wheel needed to be muscled for it to make the smallest turn. I had to drive over curbs because it would have been impossible to make some of the turns needed to get home. I called Ram and reposted the incident. They did not care...
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated when the vehicle was started, the infotainment screen was blank. The vehicle was restarted but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the digital cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V556000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
MY 2019 RAM 1500 CLASSIC SLT CREW CAB, has a serious safety DEFECT of a Remote Frequency (RF) hub, a critical component responsible for recognizing the key fob and enabling the vehicle to start which won't allow fob to work or remote start. This is caused by the rear light back window has a recurring leak that has resulted in water intrusion into the vehicle. This water damage led to the failure of the Remote Frequency (RF) hub, a critical component. The issue has also resulted in corrosion to wiring harnesses and electrical components. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This issue has put mine and my wife's safety at risk on multiple occasions. The vehicle has repeatedly failed to recognize the key fob, rendering it completely inoperable as well as the remote starter. I've been left stranded multiple times due to this defect causing keyfob to not...
The backlite window on my 2019 RAM 1500 Laramie (VIN: KN655467) has a recurring leak that has resulted in water intrusion into the vehicle. This water damage led to the failure of the Remote Frequency (RF) hub, a critical component responsible for recognizing the key fob and enabling the vehicle to start. The issue has also resulted in corrosion to wiring harnesses and electrical components. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This issue has put my safety at risk on multiple occasions. The vehicle has repeatedly failed to recognize the key fob, rendering it completely inoperable. On two separate occasions, I was left stranded and had to have the vehicle towed. Additionally, electrical failures pose a fire hazard and could potentially affect other critical systems while the vehicle is in operation. The issue has been confirmed and reproduced by the authorized RAM dealership. The dealership determined that water...
When I get in my truck I have to wait for a long period of time before my steering wheel will unlock. After it unlocks it drives good. It’s just take 30-45 mins for the steering to unlock before I can drive it.
I am experiencing an Antilock Braking System ('ABS') control module software malfunction that disables the Electronic Stability Control ('ESC') system. Last fall Sept 2024 was the first incident. I was driving back one night to my cabin construction project in Somerset, PA. It rained earlier in the day and everything was wet. I was almost back to the site, my dash lights started wildly flashing. The ESC SYSTEM OFF displayed, the (ABS) light illuminated along with SERVICE THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. The front passenger side tire started to shake, just as I was trying to avoid a large pothole around a bend. My truck slid straight across it and slammed my front end down in the ditch. I had NO CONTROL. It caused my side airbags to deploy and the seatbelts to lock up. I drove out of the ditch, the truck was ok. I was close so i drove...
When driving down the road the truck shifter goes to neutral and says put in park and then back in drive. It already happened to me 3 different times . If your driving down the road and it throws it in neutral and there cars around there subject to hit you or you hit someone. Especially if you can't pull over right away.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle hesitated. There was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the vehicle. The parking brake, traction control, and ABS warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the stability control and AWD were temporarily unavailable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear sensor was damaged due to the plate dislodging. The rear plate covers the disk brakes had corroded and the bolt had become loosened. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
The E-Torque alternator failed unexpectedly causing me to lose power while driving down a snowy highway. The vehicle shutdown then locked itself in park stranding me on a busy highway in a snowstorm at night time creating a severe safety hazard for myself and other motorists. After taking it to the local Dodge/Chrysler dealership diagnostics said the alternator went bad, however they cannot replace it as the factory currently has 5200 of these alternators on back order. So obviously this part is having major issues with failure. I’m certain it’s caused many unsafe situations. I want to know why there was no recall? Thank you very much for what you do!
Alternator failure. RAM does not manufacture the part anymore leaving my truck in the shop for over 2 months. Problem has been confirmed by the dealer
I have a 2019 dodge ram and the alternator been out since December 2024 and it's on back order I can't get to work and can't pay on the truck something need to be done about this I need help
I have a 2019 Dodge Ram that slips out of gear and an error message comes up on dash "shift to park and then to desired gear". This is extremely dangerous as it happens in traffic. I have taken truck to dealer two times for four days each. They say that they cannot do anything unless they can recreate the same problem. It does not happen all the time but does happen in traffic. I videoed it when it happened but they say they need to see it. I asked if you see it what would you do and the answer is they do not know. I contacted dodge customer service and got a call but it was useless conversations. I see many other dodge truck owners online with same issue including videos too but dodge customer service seems to have no records of other drivers with same problem. Help....
My etorque alternator went out at 106k miles. I can't find anyone that sells the part not even at the dealer. I've been without a pickup for a month now.
My vehicle with 70k miles on it has had a failure of the motor generator unit (MGU). This is a mild hybrid system that provides power for the vehicle. My truck is completely unusable per the service technician at the dealership. If I continue driving it the battery power will drain and I will be stranded. It appears it is a bearing failure in the generator. Upon investigation there are numerous cases of other Ram 1500 owners having the same issue at relatively low mileage for such a crucial engine component. The part is currently backordered and I just read a report that there are over 5000 currently ordered in the system, so that would lead me to believe that over 5000 owners are having the same issue. Luckily I was near my home when this occurred as this could have left me stranded. Reports say it could be 1-2...
While driving my ram truck, a notice goes across the cluster center saying to shift vehicle to park. No other lights go on like check engine lights etc. But the truck goes to a complete stop and makes you shift in to park then back in to drive this is dangerous because it happens to me while I am driving to include one time coming off the off ramp on the freeway possibly making someone rear end me due to the vehicle stalling I have seen lots of these issues on the ram forum this is downright dangerous. I will take it to the shop but others who have had the same or similar issues state there is no fix and it is random so it is hard to reproduce.
Recall#75b ABS module, had trigger the vehicle to failure, left vehicle to discharge battery in the middle of the highway and stall in the middle of traffic, took it to the dealer on October 2024 and they are not done anything to fixit
The issues started with the sunroof not closing. And the uconnect touch screen inoperable ( it went black and no options available ) It seemed to be a fluke and resolved itself. But within a few weeks the icons for the driver and passenger seat heaters were no longer on the screen. Now that the season has changed and temps have dropped, the drivers side heater will automatically come on when the truck is started and it’s below a certain degree outside. It gets crazy hot and will only shut off when the truck is turned off. This was followed by the icons for the radio options resorting themselves and the one for USB disappearing as well. The usb connection still works, but it has to automatically switch over when plugged in, it cannot be manually selected. Lastly the ParkAssist seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it...
Truck will not shut off. Had to disconnect the battery. ESC - Electronic Stability Control Warning came on Scheduled for inspection at dealer. No warning signs just happened suddenly. Would not start, had to jump the truck, then would not shut off followed by ESC warning. My VIN does not come up under the 85B recall but my truck has the issue
I came to a stop at a red light. The auto stop/start was active so the engine stopped. When the light turned green, I lifted off the brake and the truck started back up as usual. Once I got into the middle of the intersection, the truck stalled out and the parking brake set and skidded to a stop. I restarted the truck and released the parking brake. I made it 10 more feet and the truck stalled a second time and again set the parking brake. I had several cars swerve to avoid my truck. I started up and made it off the road to a parking lot. I couldn't replicate the issue and drove home cautiously. 18*F outside temp and recent snow storm.
While driving vehicle set to park and would not drive until I turned it off and back. Days later every time I set to reverse it automatically set V back to park and was not able to drive that evening. I have seen multiple issues on RAM forum so I took vehicle in for inspection and now have been told Transmission needs replacement although vehicle has less than 70,000 miles on it. Also dashboard lights all light up turned off and on problem seems electrical
The AC was stuck on hot and would not defrost. Dealership said the blend actuator door needed replacement. Unfortunately this cost is 1700. In addition to this, the fuel line or gas tank keep clicking and stopping when trying to fill. This has been intermittent since we purchased vehicle. In addition, our infotainment center was hacked, someone was changing our settings repeatedly. Dealership refused to fix
Active grill shutters code u11e9 we replaced wire harness and actuator and still getting code that’s causing an engine light .Brought to dealer and they did a recall on the air dam. Asked dealer to diagnose engine light after the fixed air dam and still getting a code for active grill shutter they told me I needed to replace active grill shutter. I explained to dealer we replace all the components to the active grill shutter. We live in MA can’t get a inspection sticker because of the engine light.
The car not turning on the engine light is on. The A! Light on.
original part # 68545657aa was malfunctioning and i took vehicle into shop to replace. I had to order replacement part 68545657AB at my own expense and pay to have it installed. I received safety recall notice "A2B/NHTSA 24E-082" via mail and went to the recall reimbursement website. this part is not currently listed on the options to select. I called in and was told the vin #'s had not been finalized yet so it does not currently appear. I am submitting this form so that my vin will be included for reimbursement. thank you
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving on several occasions, the instrument panel and display panel blacked out intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer six times where it was diagnosed that a software update was needed. The software update was performed but the failure persisted. Additionally, on approximately four occasions the star connector was relocated, and the light switch and battery were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the seventh time and was diagnosed and determined that the illumination cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but the part was ordered. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V556000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 31,223.
Remote starting on its own, radio uncontrollable and usb malfunctions, stabilitrack failure alert and no cruise control possible after that warning. Backup camera doesn’t work sometimes and the screen stays black.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated when starting the vehicle, the instrument cluster was not visible. The contact stated that the failure was almost constant. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V556000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
While driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster has malfunctioned on several occasions. The speedometer, tachometer, engine coolant gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery charge gauge, and fuel gage go to "0" while the center information panel begins to cycle through what seems to be all available messages like "Service Power Steering", "Service Electronic Stability Control", "Service Park Brake", "Service Tire Pressure System", "Service Transmission, Continue in D. Do Not Shift or Turn Engine Off", etc. The current mileage windows shows "NO BUS". Sometime the indicator light on the shift selector would go dark, but not always. In most cases, these instrument cluster returns to normal operation, but the issue will resurface in a few days, especially when the ambient temperature is greater than 95F. I took the vehicle to the Griffith/Gunn Dodge Dealership in Seguin, Tx and they "reprogrammed all modules" and stated that the problem was resolved. It wasn't....
I was driving my 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn (60,000 miles) when the wiper blades came on and every possible warning light and error message came on in my truck. I was able to pull over before i crashed. The wipers and warnings lights would not stop, and after that the vehicle shut off by itself. Before this incident the car was taken to University Dodge in Plantation, Fl with a concern of a couple of lights on in my dashboard and to complete a recall, car was given to me after a week and they said everything was fine and the computer was re-setted. A week after, this nightmare happened... and once again I took the car to the dealer, this time they told me that they had to replace the battery and one of the sensors. Today i picked the vehicle and after 20 minutes driving, all the lights...
Electronic power steering has failed with no previous warning signs. I was driving down the road on the highway when the power steering warning light came on all of a sudden and staring was extremely difficult. Power steering temporarily began working again, but within 10 minutes further down the road it went off again, making it very difficult to turn this truck during any turns.
