2016 RAM 1500 Electrical System Problems

ABS module on the vehicle has failed. Took it to be diagnosed and was told the code was that there was an internal component failure and the module would need to be replaced as it is a common issue. Intermittent service power steering message while driving and power steering stops working making vehicle has to maneuver at low speeds. Power steering returns after the vehicle is shut off and restarted. Have not been able to be reproduced for dealer to diagnose.

ABS / BRAKE / TRACTION CONTROL/CRUISE CONTROL I am having problems with the list above. I have had my brakes, rotors and abs sensors replaced. Not to mention the dealership (Nyle Maxwell -Killeen, TX) supposedly did thorough check up and also changed out all the brake necessities a few years back. ****I will NEVER take my truck back to them EVER.**** The problem is because of this, I am a hazard to be on the road. My brakes work, but may give out at anytime if too much pressure is applied. This is due to a faulty ABS Module. Through no fault of my own, I'm having to pay out of pocket for a fix that the MANUFACTURER is responsible for. ****Please issue a RECALL on the part. When driving I lost steering and received dashboard alarm with service power steering. Turned the truck off, when I turned it back on the steering was working. A week later I lost steering again while driving.

My problem is with my Ram ABS/Traction control, cruise control doesn’t work, 4 wheel drive will not engage. Having only rear wheel drive makes it hard and dangerous to drive on snow covered roads. Almost hit a semi head on because my traction control and 4 wheel drive doesn’t work. I’ve been waiting almost 2 years for a new ABS controller. Chrysler has put the part I need on back order like 5 times in the last two years and winter is coming and it’s not safe to drive my truck on snow covered roads. I don’t know what to do. I’ve seen and heard lots of people having the same issue with the RAM trucks. Please help. Thank you!

I was driving the truck when the light came on for EBS (Electronic Braking System) and the steering wheel locked up then the truck dash read a warning stating "Service Power Steering". Through my research on Kelly Blue Book this is a common problem with this year make and model of Ram 1500 pickups yet mine doesn't have this as a specific recall. I also have an issue with the exhaust manifold bolts rattling loose separating the exhaust manifold separating from the rear of the engine block at the head. My father owns a 2014 Ram 1500 and had that same issue with his exhaust manifold and I know 3 other gentlemen that had the issue with the exhaust manifold I was wondering seeing as these are common problems with this generation of Ram 1500's if I could have these 3 issues put out as recalls on my specific Ram...

On Thursday July 18, 2024 at approximately 5:00pm. I was on my way home from picking my son up from daycare when the screen turned black and my shift knob light (above D letter) began blinking and about 10 seconds later the truck shut off completely. The key wasn’t able to be removed from the ignition. About five minutes later, I was able to turn the key and turn the truck back on. This was a frightening moment because I was crossing over railroad track when this started.

While driving, dash board alert notice of shifter requiring service appeared. Message states not to take gear out of "D" until reaching desired location or may not be able to use "D" again. Later Engine, power steering, air suspension, anti skid alerts began to appear is sequence. Cruise control and other electrical feature will not work during alert. I have a 2016 RAM 1500. At 50k miles, the ABS light and the brake light came on. The message states “service ABS braking system”. 
I went to NAPA to get the code read and they said that I need the ABS Electronic Brake Control Module and the Brake Fluid Pump assembly replaced and that it could be very dangerous to drive my truck and in fact, if I keep driving the truck without it being fixed it was a danger to myself and others. NAPA called to order the parts and they said that it was back ordered by 3 days. The date of was 5/21/2024. They have NO date when they will have the vital parts to make my truck stop in the manner and condition that I bought the truck. My ABS/Brake/Traction alarm is lit up on my 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn (99.5k miles) and I was notified that the part is not available from Mopar/Dodge. It has been checked out by Firestone and confirmed by them that the part is not available.

While driving on a highway my power steering stopped working. There is a recall for 2015-2016 Ram 1500 for power steering failure. The recall states, vehicles manufactured in January of 2015 through September of 2015 may be effected. This truck was manufactured in September of 2015. Manufacture says this is not there problem. The fact this vehicle has no power steering greatly increases the risk of myself, my family and of every other motorist on the road, especially during snowing and icy months.

Has had the "Hemi tick" ever since I bought it new. The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated the instrument cluster lights were intermittently dim and bright while driving, and the cabin light was inoperable. The contact stated while reversing into a parking spot, the message "Power Steering Failure" was displayed, and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. While listening to radio, radio station would change on its own a couple times. Also, while listening to pandora, songs would skip out of no where.

In February 2022 while driving my ABS light came on and stayed illuminated. I pulled over emergently on the freeway worried that my brakes were out. That was not the case, but the light was on and I was not sure if the vehicle could be driven. I got home and called Cutter Pearl City asap and was told that appointments were months away for service/diagnostic (I can only assume that this was due to COVID). The vehicle has a faulty ABS module, which has resulted in my truck losing traction on dry roads and wet roads, however the “wet” roads are a result of a minimal sprinkle. The Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module as well as the Hydraulic Control Unit associated with the ABS Control Module. The left front Caliper locked up while driving. My safety and the safety of the passengers in my vehicle were at risk, as well as the other vehicles nearby. The vehicle has been inspected and diagnosed by an independent service center, Aaron's Auto Repair and Tire, 2623 Knight Avenue Waycross, Ga, 912-387-0503. The part is showing as being on national back order, so it was unable to be fixed. This is the only vehicle I have available to commute to work. There were no warning lamps prior to the incident, however, the warming lamp came on almost simultaneously.

The electric power steering system went out while driving. The truck had been checked for codes that day which indicated a possible need to replace the egr valve but nothing about power steering. I was in a parking lot and was able to pull into a space but was unable to get home.

The ABS light, break light and traction. Control due to either a faulty abs modul or tip computer. Dealers unable to replace until MAY 2024. Concern is the abs breaking and traction control for safe driving. From what I have read this is a common problem that needs to been corrected.

On vacation 07/29/2023 towing a 4000lb. camping trailer with family in the mountains with weekend traffic when motor dies without warning. Luckily I was able to pull over safely. Was able to restart but died three more times but made it to a gas station where it died completely. We were very very fortunate no one was injured. No local shops open on weekend so had the whole rig towed 137mi. home. On Monday 07/31/2023 I had the truck towed to the dealer where I purchased the truck new. after a week and a half they said the wiring harness needs to be replaced but is no longer available so there is nothing they can do. Massive safety hazard should have a solution. I just learned that Dodge knows about this truck dying without warning but has done nothing.

I was driving down the highway at 75 mph and my truck died in the middle of the highway luckily I pushed it off to the shoulder and it wouldn’t restart had it towed to a shop where I was told the crankshaft tone ring needed to be replaced but no parts to fix it due to “back order” this has been recalled but doesn’t show a fix on my vehicle and it needs to be fixed immediately.

The driver side window continues to not work properly in cold weather until it completely fell down into the door frame area. It was 7° outside when this finally happened. Driving with the window down at the drivers side is dangerous and can lead to us wrecking. And we have small children (a 1 year and 8 year old). Fortunately our children were not in the truck, but now the window will not work properly and we have to fear it will fall again while our children are in the truck. Our baby’s car seat is behind the driver seat and would definitely have freezing air blasting on her. We live in Wyoming with extreme winter weather. On April 29, 2022 while driving 75mph pulling a trailer my truck (Ram 1500 3.0L Ecodiesel) lost full power and electrical. When taken to the dealership for repair, they found that the crank shaft position sensor tone ring attached to the flywheel had become delaminated and caused the entire truck to shut down. When I inquired about a separate recall NHTSA Recall No. : 20V-475, but was told that didn't include my truck. I believe that FCA did not include all the vehicles possible in the previous recall and are putting people at risk as a result.

I was driving down the highway when my truck suddenly throws its self into park while traveling at 55 mph. My stuck started spinning causing me to bounce off the safety rails on both sides of the highway. My truck took a front end hit to a concrete wall and my airbags did not deploy. Once my truck came to a stop sideways in the middle of the highway it wouldn’t come out of park because it was shut off. I started the truck and placed it in drive and was able to move a few feet from the center of the highway. The truck was towed. No warning lights had went off nothing. I’m having bad neck pain from the residual effects of the accident.

I was in two separate major accidents and the airbags did not deploy. I got injuries due to this. They have been looked at by shops when repairs were made. No indication before or after of any kind regarding air bags.

Purchased my 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn June 2019. At that point the previous owner had the truck in the shop and while there it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. About January 2020 I stated having the famous Hemi Tick but not all the time. I'm very ocd on all maintenance of my truck, witch I or my husband and son; both certified diesel mechanics. I only run Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w-20 oil and a K&N Oil Filter and is changed before the 5k mark. The first sign of a problem was when my touch screen radio would randomly shut off and then turn back on again. As it would get hotter it would happen more often. Then the turn signals would have trouble flickering. The check engine light would show up and I've tried getting that figured out. When I was driving it would tell me "service transmission continue in D. Do not shift or turn engine off until you reach a desired location. I was exiting the freeway, sped up from about 55mph to pass a semi before the exit narrowed and my '16 RAM 1500 Ecodiesel just stopped working. I got warning lights one after another, "engine oil low pressure", "electric system" "brake system" basically the whole christmas tree lit up. I own 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn. I purchased the truck in June 2019 at our local Dodge Dealership in Vinita, Oklahoma with 59k on it. Was pulling in to a parking lot when the vehicle made a warning sound and then displayed "Check Engine" and "Service Shifter" messages on dash. The truck then would not shift in to any other gear but drive. it displayed that it was in park but stayed in gear and almost caused me to drive in to a pedestrian. The shift lights on the dash for the gears (P, N,R, D) all flashed randomly as if there was an electrical issue. Eventually I was able to set the brake, turn off the truck, restart it, and it finally changed gears. The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that his wife informed him that the vehicle would not start after driving approximately 200 miles. The contact then drove the vehicle to the dealer and within 125 miles of reaching the dealer, the "contact your local dealer, the problem with the DEF system" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. Once in the possession of the dealer, the contact was informed that three bolts that connected the exhaust to the manifold had broken off causing the failure. The manufacturer was notified and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I was driving 50 mph down the road, when I started to accelerate (pass) around another vehicle when it just died. Got the check engine light along with oil pressure low warning. Coasted to a stop a ways down the road trying to get off on the side of the road. My 2016 Ram 1500 would not start after that. I put my Bosch code reader on the truck and it flashed P0366 which called out for the Crank Shaft sensor. Had truck towed to local dealer. This looks like it falls under the same recall as W58. In the process of getting the dealership to take responsibility of the situation and file a claim with their corporate office, because my particular VIN doesn't match their records of having this issue.

Engine speed surged while pulling into parking space. Bringing to dealer to have checked. No warning, or codes given. $1500 in damages to my vehicle and probably the same to the parked car in front of me. Worried about my safety now with this sudden acceleration.

Power steering, Was driving down the road, when the steering wheel was jersey out of my hand. After pulling over, the power steering indication on dash appeared. I turn of vehical and restarted, steering worked fine. Same incident happened multiple time a few days later as driving down the road. The steering would not be responsive and then work. Now the power steering is out and has not return functional. The vehical has not been inspected as I am afraid to drive to shop and it has almost caused multiple accidents.

AFTER DIESEL EMISSION MODIFICATION TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY ROUGH AND JUMPS VEHICLE WHEN COLD. IT SENDS WHEELS INTO SPINOUT WHEN ENTERING ROADS WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS. FUEL ECONOMY ALSO FELL FROM AVERAGE OF 23-24MPG TO BELOW 21MPG. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP 3 TIMES ALREADY. THE SHOP WILL "RESET" THE COMPUTER, BUT THE ISSUE COMES BACK WITHIN A FEW DAYS. NEED A PERMANENT FIX.

THE FUEL GAGE INTERMITTENTLY DROPS TO ZERO FUEL WHE THE TANK IS APPROXIMATELY HALF FULL OR LESS. BASED ON NUMEROUS SEARCHES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ITEM.

AS I WAS DRIVING, AFTER TURNING A CORNER, ACCELERATING ABOUT 40 MPH THE ENGINE VIOLENTLY SHOOK, TRUCK LOST ENGINE POWER. DEAD. AFTER TOWING BACK TO DEALER, THE FAULT CODE INDICATED THE SENSOR RING FAILED (RECALL W58). THAT WAS MID-SEPTEMBER 2020. THE TRUCK WAS IN SAME DEALERSHIP FOR MOST TIME SINCE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST 2020 WITH EMISSIONS PROBLEMS. SO FAR, ALL HAVE BEEN COVERED BY WARRANTY. DEALER HAS PROVIDED ME WITH TRANSPORTATION, BUT I HAVE NOT HAD MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE, WITH NO END IN SIGHT. LOCKWOOD MOTORS MARSHALL MN HAS ALL REPAIR INVOICES, SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN WARRANTY COVERED.

OUR TRUCK STARTED GIVING US CRANKING ISSUES. IT WOULD TURN OVER CRANK AND IMMEDIATELY DIE. WE WOULD KEEP TRYING AND EVENTUALLY START. AT TIMES IT WOULDNT START. WE WOULD CALL A WRECKER TO GET IT TOWED TO MECHANIC. AFTER IT WOULD SIT WAITING ON WRECKER IT WOULD CRANK. FINALLY AFTER FIGHTING WITH THIS FOR 1 YEAR IT HAS BEEN DEAD FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE IT. IT HAS BEEN AT ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE EITHER.

VEHICLE STOPPED STARTING. BATTERY GOT DRAINED AND NO LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON. I DROVE IT IN THE MORNING AND IN THE AFTERNOON IT WOULD NOT START

I'VE HAD CHRONIC PROBLEMS WITH THE BACK UP CAMERA SYSTEM SINCE I PURCHASED THIS $60,000 TRUCK. RAM HAS REPLACED THE CAMERA 3 TIMES AND DOCTORED THE CONNECTION AN ADDITIONAL TIME AND IT STILL FAILS IN A FEW MONTHS. GIVEN THE SIZE OF THIS VEHICLE, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT. NOW THE HEAD UNIT ITSELF HAS FAILED ENTIRELY AT 4 YEARS AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT.
