2016 RAM 1500 Electrical System Problems

My truck lost power steering while driving, a red flashing light came on saying power steering, pulled off and could not turn wheel. Managed to get it to a shop close by and upon scan for codes it came up C2217-00 electric power steering and shop verified that my truck came up with a recall regarding this same issue but when I called a dodge dealership they said I had no open recalls yet needed to get it to their shop for their diagnostic.

k my abs and traction control and brake light came on my truck has 86k miles well took it and got it scanned said abs control module internal short so went on line to order one on back order and no date when available so went to dealer and they said no can’t get one nationwide back order so now my trucks brakes are not safe and i contacted ram with no response so idk wat to do and i thought car manufacturers had to keep parts available for so many years and the part i need also fits newer ones also so it should be available instead every time i have to drive it’s possible to not be able to stop without sliding i would jus trade it in but will be a loss because of the brakes and all the lights on also i purchased this truck new

My power steering went out on my vehicle in mid January 2016. My temperature guage was also not working properly. I took it to my local Ram dealership to get it looked at. They drew up an estimate and I approved some repairs. My extended warranty covered majority of it. After picking up my vehicle, I noticed my steering wheel still had some resistance to it. I felt it shouldn't have that much resistance knowing the amount of work that just got done. My temperature gauge was still not the greatest. It never got directly into the middle of being the right temperature, but being off a bit maybe isn't the worst thing. I notice my temeperature and steering wheel icons light up when I start my vehicle, but researched and found that that is normal and it goes away after my vehicle is started. On September 29, 2025, my vehicle overheated. Smoke was coming from the interior vents as well as from under the hood. I pulled over shortly after and had my vehicle towed to a repair shop. I got an estimate for radiator repair. That did not fix the issue, so more repair was needed related to a heating and evaporator core. I have attached the invoices for those repairs. I just wanted to note this for my records.

-My ABS module failed over a year ago and is available for inspection. -My ABS, anti-lock, cruise control does not work. -The problem has been confirmed by a dealer and dealer said the part is no longer available. -The component has been inspected by a dealer. -There were warning lights when it failed and they have been on ever since.

My abs module has an error code and I can't find the part I need.

I have a abs, E brake and traction control light on I'm my dash. It will not let me use cruise control or any of the 4 wheel drive options. This has been going on now for a month. I've called my Dodge dealership and others. I have been on Internet looking for replacement parts none to be found. The Dodge dealership where I got my truck from said the needed over 100 and can't get them. I've tried everything can't go and get one from junkyard Dodge will not install or program a used one. This is a safety condition that they recalled 2017-2019 and I purchased my like February 2017 new actually had it shipped down from Pennsylvania by dealership. Please help I really depend on my truck and I drive 45min one way to work. PLEASE HELP I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW TRUCK AND I REALLY LIKE...

The ABS module failed causing the cruise control, ABS, and traction control systems to become inoperable.

The ABS control module and pump failed. ABS Light, Traction / Stabilitrak light / Brake Light on Vehicle was diagnosed by the dealership Dec 16, 2022 was given quote to repair but the parts were not available and back ordered. Been reaching out since to have truck repaired multiple dealerships but ABS module is not available no ETA been driving vehicle as is Currently ABS module is still not available no ETA now and vehicle is rendered in operable due to the ABS Module failure There have been multiple complaints of this issue, yet nothing is being done.

My Ram truck ( with extended manufacturer's warranty) has a faulty ABS module which has resulted in not having the ABS safety feature. In addition, this failed module renders speed control inoperative, thus increasing fatigue on long trips. The diagnosis was from July 29, 2025 by a Sulphur Springs dealer [very nice folks]. I have reached out to them several times and was told the part is still on backorder, with no ETA provided. I am hearing that this is a widespread problem, and it seems that we need to bring NHTSA to bear on the manufacturer… ?

Went to start my truck and it wouldnt start. Connected a jumper box to it to start it and started right up. Check engine light came on and showed "Code P1DF3". My safety was at risk due to not being able to get back home due to this issue. This fault has been reported by others with the ram 1500.

2016 Ram 1500. Abs system malfunction. Brakes lock up randomly. Abs, brake light, traction control light come on randomly causing brake issues. Very dangerous. Called multiple dealerships. No control module available. No date for part to be available. This is huge safety issue and Ram/fiat are not seeming to care. No sense of urgency from any of the dealerships or manufacturer. I have a 2016 dodge 1500 hemi 5.7. The chrysler dealership diagnose that the abs module was bad. these abs modules are very rare to find. messages were abs light, check engine light, traction light and speedometer stop working. Thanks for your attention in this matter.

On 10/21/2025, my ABS module failed. This failure caused my brakes to fully apply on their own while entering interstate traffic. The brakes will fully apply due to ABS pump intermittently kicking in. This part has no availability to repair. Chrysler/FCA/Mopar/Stellantis/RAM no help with this issue. I was able to safely pull over and have vehicle towed to my shop and diagnosed. This is a common issue and with no parts available to repair, I am going to be without my truck.

At 90,000 miles ABS, traction control and brake light came on, mechanic said it’s a defective ABS module, and that there are none available anywhere, it’s under engineering review. This is a known issue, and now a recall for 2017 and above, my Ram is a 2016, same part. This poses a safety risk as the brakes can lock up, causing an accident. It’s going on 2 years with still no modules available

ABS module witch affects anti breaking system and i have no traction control can’t hard stop on wet or snowy conditions all it does is slide depending on speed is how far it slides and the rear end slides on take off on wet or snowy weather anti breaking system traction control and brake light is on in dash and license mechanic said it was ABS Module the mechanic stated all ram trucks around this year it goes out.

2016 Ram 1500 Express, 5.7L, 65K miles. The ABS, Traction Control, Break lights are on. This also impacts the Cruise Control making them all inoperable, even though the truck is still able to be drive, albeit unsafely. I took it to my local repair shop and was told the ABS Controle Module, part number 68228991AD was identified as bad (Code C2200-49) and in need of replacing at approximately $2000 and that the part is on indefinite backorder. I tried to locate the part on my own and there is in fact a nationwide backorder. After further investigation, I found multiple owners on Ram forums either having or have had the same problems. On one parts website, I found this message regarding the part: PART ON HOLD UNTIL ENGINEERING REVIEW IS COMPLETE, EXP - MAR 20TH, 2025.

My Ram 1500 will randomly loose power while driving then pick back up, I have had several issues with electrical including lights flickering or going our for a minute then back on while driving at night, steering wheel controls not working, key fob issues, it also shifts hard at times others its normal. I was told all recalls have been done but personally can not confirm, had it looked at by several mechanics and cant find anything that they say would cause these issues.

This is the third complaint I have filed. Now the steering is stiff and makes noise. A mechanic advised that the issue is the ABS module. Dealers still say the ABS module is still unavailable. NHTSA needs to order a recall based on uncertain dependability of steering. Owners are presuming that trucks with faulty modules are safe to operate until NHTSB orders a recall.

the connecter under Power Distribution Center has melted and has made it so that the blower motor turns on and off at random. This is going to cause a fire if not fix. There is alot of other people online saying they have the same issue and even showing photos of the connecter. if needed i will send a photo of my connecter.

Steering Sensor leading to ABS malfunctioning. Including Instrument dash lights ...Parking Break, Anti Skid, and ABS. Traction control does not work. Cruise does not work....All fuses are good. Cannot clear Dash lights.

Power steering failure. Luckily for us, the failure happened while still in our driveway, so no accident or collision occurred. We had warning messages for ESC, hill start assist, and several other systems, but nothing for EPS (electric power steering). The dealership was able to repair the problem by replacing the steering rack and two associated wiring harnesses. The mechanic noted water and a lot of corrosion in the wiring connector on the steering rack. This vehicle has only had normal water exposure (rain and puddles on the road).

Transmission won't shift out of second gear,and a code showed up U0402 in order for it to shift gear you have to disconnected the battery cable wait a few minutes then connect the battery back this will reset the computer then it will shift gear, while driving at 45 the truck suddenly stop making it feel like the transmission was about to fall out Now the EPS system while driving the steering wheel lock up, when I took it to dealership it sat in the shop about 45 minutes to and hour and they said ok you ready to go don't give me a copy of what was supposed to be done

I was driving my 2016 ram 1500 on the highway when my steering gave out due to a faulty electronic power steering rack. I lost control of the vehicle and it almost ended in an accident. I had my family in my vehicle. This is completely unacceptable. I talked to Chrysler about this issue and they said it does not fall under the recall. Although I believe it should due to the rack going bad because of water getting in due to a faulty seal.

The Antilock Braking System module has failed, rendering the ABS system inoperative as well as prohibiting cruise control. The Sulphur Springs Ram Dealership has been very nice, but are telling me that the replacement module is unavailable and has no estimate time of arrival????

The ABS module is malfunctioning; it is an internal electronic fault that has been diagnosed by the dealership. This is leading to a lack of cruise control, excessive drain on the battery resulting in constant recharging, and a red brake light to be illuminated, which results in immediate failed inspection of the vehicle in Virginia. There is an existing recall on 2019 and 2021-2024 Dodge Rams; however, there is a national shortage of the part and dealerships will not install used modules. Currently there is no solution offered by Dodge other than to continue charging the battery and to pay approximately $700 for the part that has been "Under Review" for at least 8 months. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership which has stated over 160 people have requested the part be ordered at this one location. ABS light came on a long time ago and I have been unable to get it repaired due to availability of the part and demand due to so many owners having an issue with this ABS module failing. This is not a wear and tear part, this module should not have failed when it did. I see there have been recalls on other Ram trucks and 2016 has been left out. This issues is present for so many owners and is a safety issue.

We were driving down the interstate and my truck went into limp mode. This almost caused an accident. We were able to get off the road and into a parking lot but the whole truck locked up. The dash started saying "Service Throttle Positioning System" and the gear shift locked into park. The truck got stuck in first gear and I was able to get out of the way before we were rear ended. We had the truck towed to a truck shop and the codes had gone away. They drove it and while they were testing it it did the same thing to them. Based on research this part was on recall on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Eco Diesel for causing this same issue with the crank shaft tone wheel (reluctor wheel) but to this date there has been none on my truck. We are now out $3400...

The Anti-Lock Brake module has failed, causing issues with ABS, Traction Control, Braking in general, and cruise control. I have been in contact with the manufacturer on over 20 occasions over the past year. Their response is always "it's under review, we will have an update in a few weeks."

I was driving my Ram 1500 when all of a sudden my steering wheel locked in place and I could not control my steering wheel. This was a bit frightening as I did not know what had happened. I was able to bring my truck back home and called a mechanic, the mechanic told me it is a rack and pinion issue with my truck and after investigation we found there was a recall on a few of these Rams surprisingly when looking it up it shows “no unrepaired recalls” I find it hard to believe and really frustrating as this could’ve caused a really bad accident had even cost me my life.

ABS module failed at 46000 miles. Cannot drive the vehicle due to this problem. Code C2200-49 internal failure. When hitting brakes in rain, tires lock up. Stability control is also off, cruise control does not work. The part to repair this truck are unavailable. Part # 68295368AB Dealership mechanics are telling me to buy on used one on ebay and have them install it. They said there are 3600 of these modules on national back order. Stellantis keeps putting off the engineering sign-off back when the next posted date arrives (as of 4/21/25.)

Power Steering issues that have been known for multiple Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks but apparently not my specific Truck? I have contacted multiple shops to get quotes to fix this problem. It has been known to be a problem for multiple Ram 1500 Trucks including my year but for whatever reason my truck is not listed as under this recall? There was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle and my vehicle has been very well maintained with all records in hand. Out of nowhere getting in my truck the steering does not work. No accidents or any damage, just random failure to the power steering. This caused my family and I to barely be able to steer my truck onto the main road from our house and back to the home safely. It was very random as this was the first and only time this occurred. Curious as to why...

ABS control module failed. Dash warning lights are on and error code present for ABS module failure. There is no replacement available and no one can give any kind of estimate for when the part may ever be available. They poses a huge safety risk and is a known problem in which it appears they are doing nothing about correcting.

My ABS, traction control and cruise control do not work because the ABS control module is bad. Dodge does not offer any fix or repair. There is no response from Dodge on when there will be a remedy.

Vehicle is experiencing a failure of the Anti Brake System Controller Module. This issue is triggering a "Red Brake" system light as well as others (Antiskid failure etc,) on the dash. Vehicle manual states do not drive the vehicle. The part number in question is 68295368AB. This is occurring in RAM1500 vehicles across the country. Dealerships are telling owners it is OK to drive the vehicle after confirming the ABS Controller Module is defective. Ram and parent company has failed to issue a recall or a communication to RAM 1500 owers of this problem. Currently the repair parts are not available nationwide per the RAM MOPAR parts website. This is a dangerous situation instilling a behavior with owners to disregard the warning lights they are receiving on their 1500 truck dashboards. Potentil for brake failure during operation has a high probability. Ram MOPAR is ignoring this safety issue.

ABS module failed in July 2024 Subsequently, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, and Cruise Control are not operating. BRAKE light also remains lit on dash panel. ABS module is currently not available from Ram. Expected date is continually pushed further and further into the future. Meanwhile, truck is not able to operate at full, safety capacity.

The right-hand turn signal fails to cancel after turning. Since we expect it to cancel, this leads to a driver going straight while signaling a right hand turn. Eventually the warning will sound. But the driver and public are at risk until the driver notices.

ABS module malfunction according to codes. Brake and traction control lights are on 97% of the time, randomly the lights won’t come on. But having no aBS or trailer brakes makes using our travel trailer extremely unsafe. Dealership continues to see “under engineering review “ when looking up abs module.

ABS Control Module has failed, diagnosed by the Ram Dealer in Cape Coral Fl 9/24. They say repair part not available with no date of in stock for repair. Places driver in danger as ABS and skid control are disabled.

EPS went out while driving. No warning lights

Upon braking on the interstate the truck lost control and almost crashed due to not braking properly. ABS, Brake and traction control lights all came on and have stayed on steadily since. Truck pulls to the right every time we brake. When we spoke with dodge they told us the ABS module is the problem but that it can not be replaced due to no longer being made. They said the the truck is not safe to drive with the bad ABS module.

After having a full tank of fuel/gas my gas gauge will fluctuate to empty I'm saying no fuel on my gauges and the gas light will come on. When another person is in my vehicle like my wife driving that is not used to this will cause her to panic when she is on the highway or other roadways driving at high speeds and this can be dangerous. Also can be dangerous the other way giving false reading when you do need fuel and you don't have a 14 and it gives you false readings thinking you do have enough gas and leave you stranded in the wrong place wrong time wrong situation. 2018 intermediate until now 2025 almost daily to weekly. Research the problem in the past and have seen that this is a known issue

Ram has an issue with the electronic brake module. It effects the anti-brake, anti-slip, trailer brake, and cruise control. They are aware of it and it is documented on many forums as far back as 2016 on my model. My son has a 2018 2500 and is starting to have the same issues. This is an $1100 job but they don't have the part and can't get it. They say it is on back order? No real guarantee it will even last when it is replaced. This is a hazard driving. And definitely an issue you need to address

Since buying our 2016 Ram 1500 ecodiesel, we have had nothing but problems. In 2020 there was an EGR/coolant leak that was supposedly done. Upon getting the recall done, they said that the manufacturer has not yet made any equipment to fix the issue. They replaced our hose, but we have had to get it fixed almost annually since then. This is a lemon of a truck and FCA should be ashamed releasing a vehicle with so many issues and no fix in sight. It says our recall was "remedied", but even the service department said that there is no guaranteed fix because FCA has not released anything to actually fix this issue. We were without our truck for almost a month. Ridiculous. DO NOT BUY THIS TRUCK, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!

ABS Code C2200-49, anti-lock brake module internal electronic failure. Have not been able to source a new ABS control module for my vehicle. Apparently Dodge/Mopar/Chrysler has stopped producing this part. No ABS makes it dangerous to drive in the snowy/wet conditions prevalent during the winter months, especially in New York State. ABS, traction control, and brake lights are illuminated on dash. Owners manual states that the vehicle should not be driven with the brake light illuminated. Don’t really have a choice but to drive the vehicle, as I can’t afford to park the vehicle for an unknown period of time until the new module becomes available.

The power steering quit the steering was very different to use and make turns. There is a steering wheel icon in red and message that says to service power steering. I took into dealer after a day they got the code to reset I drove home and the code came back on and I lost power steering again and the steering icon is back on. The dealer says you will have to replace the power steering module which doesn’t seam right if they can temporarily get it to clear

I was driving the truck and went to make a turn and suddenly the power steering went. It was very difficult to drive and was a definite hazard to myself and others. I took the truck to the dealer where they in turn said there was not a problem with the power steering. I have included the document given to me by the dealership. Upon my own investigation the power steering has defaulted many other drivers as well. This should be a recall. I then disconnected the battery and reconnected it two days later and the power steering returned. Withing the next few days the power steering went again. This is an electrical power steering and needs to be investigated asap. Yor help in greatly appreciated.
