Engine block wall was not properly put together a hole was created in the wall which led to the engine becoming completely damaged even when the car was being taken cared of.

Engine got bad while driving and it still runs but doesn’t drive.

My engine on my 2016 Kia soul went out while I was driving in my neighborhood at 30 mph.
#11597313 |
The engine is consuming oil and plugging the converter. The safety of me & other drivers were at risk in the flow of traffic. The car wouldn't gain speed as it decreased in speed, sputtering and unable to regain current speed of the flow of traffic. This started in 2021. This problem has been reconfirmed and inspected by an independent service center, Conrad's. The catalytic converter was replaced twice within a six month period and still having same problem. There were never warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. I will need a new engine replacement in order to fix this issue that has already been recalled and ordered by Federal courts to replace the engines built in 2015.

I purchased this 2016 Kia Soul from a dealership in April, 2024. On [XXX], I was driving on a residential street when I heard an explosion. Smoke poured from the back of the car and from under the hood. I tried to stop, but the brakes failed. I put the car in park, but it would not stop. I finally put the emergency brake on and it stopped. By this time, the car was basically a fireball. I had to get out by stepping through fire. I inhaled smoke from the burning and melting elements of the vehicle. The fire department arrived quickly, but it took 10-15 minutes to put the fire out. I have since learned that Kia knew of the problem and there was a class action suit against them, which it is too late for me to file a claim on. As [XXX] , I am very...

went to Kia as car was approaching high 80's in mileage-significant power loss. Asked if my problem had to do with the class action suit--was told no. No diagnostic test was recommended. Approaching 100, miles mechanic told me I had no oil in my car. Called Kia, told them my car was suffering from power loss (and also burning excess oil) They told me "oh sounds like transmission. full tune up done 3/23-still lack of power still burning excess oil. Kia diagnostic -catalytic converter-service women suggested I call an outside mechanic to save money. replaced converter 11/23. 12/3 driving power drop, engine light--error-knock system 1/9 driving hwy power drop, engine light--very frightening.Kia replaced knock system thru the class action suit. In my research I see a faulty knock system can damage catalytic converter. Fighting to get reimbursed for the $1,0000 catalytic converter repair and being denied. My Kia is burning...

While driving vehicle suddenly lost power and the battery light, engine light and oil light turned on. My car did not start after. Upon inspection my mechanic added oil to the car to see if that will work and it didn’t. Granted I had an oil change one month ago and still had a bit of miles to go before my next one. The oil light never turned on before this so I thought it was odd that it was low in oil. Secondly we charged the battery and tried to jump start it. That was futile. When he inspected it more he said it was the engine that became detective. I’m glad this happened on a safe road rather than the freeway! There was zero indication prior , that my car was going to stop . I know there’s active recalls for this same issue …

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The light disengaged independently; however, over time the warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle had been repaired twice; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that one month after one of the repairs while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended, lost motive power, and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer nearby. The contact inquired about a possible oil leak being the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer after the first initial failure and was diagnosed with catalytic converter failure. The vehicle was repaired under Warranty. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle was returned to the dealer where the spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced. After...

Kia is refusing to repair a 2016 Soul subject to NHTSA recall No. 23V-218.
#11583414 |
Vehicle entered limp mode on a dangerous rode in central Florida and would not accelerate over 20 mph. We had the vehicle towed 70 miles at the expense of $350 outside of coverage by our auto insurance. The dealership advised this was a failure of the catalytic converter which was just changed in Dec 2021 under a Kia recall campaign. They’re now saying it is not under warranty as they only cover 12 months 12,000 miles.

Intermittent problem with acceleration. Very occasionally, 200+ miles between episodes, while accelerating, the car slows down. When this happens the gas pedal fades similar to brake fade when brakes are about to fail. It lasts 2-3 seconds and then returns to normal. There are no error codes. Has occurred while driving on the freeway and when accelerating from a stop. There have been 5-10 incidences of this in the past 12 months, because the problem is so intermittent, mechanics are unable to reproduce it. We have replaced the throttle position sensor The local Kia dealer and independent mechanics are unable to shed any light on why this may occur. An internet search found other owners of Kia cars with similar complaints

Reoccurring check engine light for the omissions system. Damage to the catalytic converter, diagnostic codes. Poor gas mileage and abnormal engine combustion. Oil is burning extremely fast in engine, having to get oil changes more frequently. Incident where vehicle was driving, came to a complete stop and would not accelerate in the middle of heavy traffic. Had to replace all 4 fuel injections and spark plugs due to how ineffective the GDI engine runs.

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who observed that the engine was knocking, and diagnosed a failure with the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine, and Engine Cooling) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 161,000.

The contact’s son owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle shifted into LIMP Mode. The contact stated that the knock sensor warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed and cleared the LIMP Mode status for the vehicle to be driven to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle, and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that knock sensor warning light became illuminated again and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced due to piston damage. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) as a possible solution; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The...

Catastrophic engine failure. 2016 Kia soul 2.0, (120000 miles) traveling 35 mph when the check engine light started blinking and the engine started making a rattling sound. Engine lost power and had trouble accelerating. If I was in an intersection or pulling out in front of on coming traffic it could have caused a sever accident. Kia needs to be held responsible for this common engine failure. It has been reported and complained about numerous times on multiple websites and Kia says it is not their problem. Please investigate Kia motors. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contacted stated that the check engine warning light illuminated; and the contact's parents took the vehicle to the dealer where it was repaired; however, the check engine light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the residence and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a catalytic converter failure. The contact found info of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Within the first year of purchase, vehicle was emitting large amounts of smoke from tailpipe while going uphill while accelerating. The smoke would completely envelope the car behind. Mr. Friendly Kia (now Ken Ganley Kia) of New Port Richey, Florida, would not repair because "they could not reproduce the event in their shop". I made several requests to fix the problem. Vehicle eventually started to have lessened power upon accelerating from a stop light. Took it to other repair shops, since Kia wouldn't fix it, but vehicle did not produce any repair codes. Vehicle was always serviced with oil changes, etc. In 2022, with acceleration issue getting much worse, vehicle ran completely out of oil, but didn't produce any oil light or codes. Oil started appearing very dark, blackish. Late 2023, and several trips to repair shop later, still with no codes, vehicle started to exhibit periodic flashing oil light...

I had recently acquired my 2016 Kia soul from a used dealership, and as I had gotten it, inspected by a mechanic, the back rear brake was locked. The Penrod was missing on one of them, and my driver side door lock was broken and I thought that was simple issues that could be repaired. You know that’s a used car whatever as I started driving it not even a month later I start feeling heavy acceleration when barely hitting the gas and trying to shift because it is a manual and loss of power on first and second gear, like it was going to stall out without even rubbing the RPMs to get it to move. I did some research found out that there was multiple recalls on the catalytic converter and it’s causing a fire the ECUs and also the antitheft system so I am a single mom....

UNKNOWN. I was driving uphill on the freeway and the vehicle was decelerating rather than accelerating. The vehicle was sluggish and there was a noticeable loss of power and a ticking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning lamps or messages. I took it to the workshop for diagnostics and was informed that the catalytic converter was clogged and affecting the exhaust. I have been told that it would cost approximately $3800 to repair.

Engine loss power when driving, specially when going up on bridges way. If I’m driving 30mph then get to 20 mph even less. Since that, it’s been bad
#11575661 |
The PCP valve is coming apart causing the vehicle to lose oil. There is wet oil on the spark plugs. Oil is getting into the cylinders. The catalytic converter is clogged. The engine is having issues which I will find out more about soon. The car is still in the shop. I had to leave it 2.5 hours away and find a ride home because the car would not accelerate over 40 mph on my way back from a trip. I almost got slammed into on a hill on the highway TWICE because the car would not speed up. It has been in the shop for this same issue three times. All three times it gave out on me on the highway. There was NO engine light or light on the dash any of the times it failed me, and there have never been any codes. This issue falls under...

My daughter was taking my son (her little brother) to school on 2/6/2024 and as she starts uphill she starts noticing she was loosing her speed. They have to pull over on the side of a busy interstate to call me i get to them the car is running rough and sounded like it was missing or like the exhaust was muffled or clogged no check engine light was on but in have a diagnostic machine you plug in to the car and tells you what is exactly going without a check engine light having to be on an it said it was catalyst system.

There was a recall on my engine in 2019 two years prior to me owning the vehicle. 2/20/24 my check engine light came on and my vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph. It left me stuck in my work parking lot. I had it towed to a mechanic and they said it was the knock sensor that I had updated 6/27/23. They told me I needed a motor replacement. The car was owned by three dealerships prior to me purchasing the vehicle but no repairs were done according to the consumer report. Nothing was notified to me that there was a recall or recall extension and needed to be addressed prior to 150k miles.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Car is burning oil, catalytic converter is failing, engine is failing, as with several hundred thousand of this year, make and model, yet mine does not seem to be covered by the recall
#11571947 |
I was driving in Los Angeles going home from my new job. My car (100K mi) started making noises and seeming to lose power. No dash warning lights, have done ALL regular maintenance and ALL recalls including knock sensor. Was barely able to make it to the shop that changed the oil recently and there was no oil! Towed it to the dealership and they filled up the oil and said I needed a sealed oil test and drive it for 1000 miles. So while doing that, my car was stolen (2nd attempt this year...this time successful). Got car back and took to same dealer for repair. They had it for 50 days to fix ignition and window. Guess they never checked the oil test. Said car go-to-go and repaired. Took it back after the repair to finish test and they told me "No oil, engine ruined...piston rings. Needs new...

2016 Kia Soul (50300 miles):The day after service at dealer car emitted smoke from tailpipe, which it had not at any time before. They diagnosed with borescope as cylinder scoring and needed engine replacement. I bought it used so 5 year warranty was expired. I contacted Kia America, who had spoken to dealer, and was told warranty was expired. I towed it back home. I could drive it but emits lots of smoke and will seize at some point and cause a safety hazard to me and others which Kia seems fine with. For now it safely parked unless it spontaneously catches fire as other Kia's have done. It has the NU 2.0 engine which, as you are aware, has a history of disastrous issues and lawsuits regarding the combustion chamber, including rod bearings, piston rings and excessive oil consumption. These problems can cause death and injury through fires and...

I went in to Kia Dealership in early 2023 because my Catalytic Converter was popping up on the OBD computer. I saw that it was under recall. So i scheduled a recall appointment with a Kia Dealership near me. Now months later, the CAT is popping up on OBD computer again. I scheduled another appointment with kia but they told me that they wanted to charge me $109 to look at me car and also that since all Recalls have been completed that they wont change my cat under recall. So I have no idea what they actually did to my car but they never replaced the catalytic converter that was under recall. and now i may be stuck having to pay for this issue my self

The engine and catalytic converter failed while driving on the highway started slowing down and making a sound
#11566042 |
Kia didn't thoroughly inspect my car in response to recall 19V101which would have caught a damaged catalytic converter. Kia updated the code in 2019 but did not replace my catalytic converter and is now unwilling to honor the recall repair necessary. My catalytic converter is now damaged with the same symptoms identified in the recall. Kia is insisting that I cover the costs associated with the repair.

Engine stalling/losing acceleration. Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. The leaking oil may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. The engine stalls and loses acceleration spontaneously during driving. This will lead to a failing O2 sensor, not sure which comes first. My car would lose power on the freeway and making Left hand turns leading to near crashes. The problem has been confirmed by a repair shop. No warning lamps were triggered not sure if this is also part of the problem, it does not trigger a warning light.

My family decided to purchase a 2016 Kia Soul and it was a great car until it stalled on me on a highway, and funny enough I was helping my father on his vehicle on the highway. I had this car towed to Raceway Kia at Freehold NJ , who provided a KDKS software update to the engine. A short time later, the car had to be sent again and they performed an oil consumption test. By this time, my car was near the warranty expiration of 100k and they stated that since I performed this, that if there were problems with my vehicle, they would fix it. Fast forward and now I am experiencing a knocking in my car and it is losing acceleration/ power. I sent my Kia Soul to another dealer, Matt Blatt Kia at Toms River. They diagnosed the engine and stated that there were no...

Certainly. I own a 2016 Kia Soul, and recently I've become aware of some serious issues with the vehicle that are deeply concerning. It has come to my attention that the car is experiencing piston damage, which could potentially result in engine stalling, thereby significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, there is a possibility that a broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block, leading to the escape of engine oil. This could not only cause significant damage to the engine but also poses a serious safety hazard. In the worst-case scenario, the leaking oil may come into contact with the hot exhaust system, significantly increasing the risk of a My 2016 Kia Soul has been causing me a lot of trouble. Every 5-6 months, it needs a tune-up, and it frequently starts making loud noises from the engine. The car also has a concerning habit of skipping,...

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing abnormal oil consumption. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that oil was leaking into the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, where an oil change was performed after two weeks. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 147,360.

Oil consumption and engine stall. Engine light flashing. Taken to two Kia dealerships no resolution. Mechanic ran test to see engine recall issue. Still careless months later.
#11561327 |
My engine is burning oil on the pistons and does not retain oil. I am having to top the engine oil off every 10-14 days. I went in to repair the catalytic converter, but I was told by the dealership that if I repair the converter, because I have a bad engine, it would be useless. The first warning sign was an H2O engine error that remains. My safety with a bad engine is put at risk with every drive. the problem has been occurring for over a year, and in addition, the brake lights in the front of the vehicle does not work, although it has been diagnosed.

Experiencing issues with the catalyst or catalyst converters. Misfire and codes as well as check engine light present
#11560596 |
There was an engine light on my Kia and put on code reader and had several misfires and catalytic converter and sensor emissions control. Called Kia dealership and was told not covered under vin number for safety recall. But doing same thing as ones recalled. Will drive but than stalls and almost causing people behind me to rear end me on very busy road ways. Manufacture has not inspected it dealership refused it. Could end up killing someone and I can’t afford to fix only 122 ,000miles and I’m on fixed income started 2 weeks with issues

This car was bought used with less than 100,000 mile in less than 6 months of ownership the catalytic converter failed. The check engine light was not on. The car would not drive over 30 miles on the interstate and had to be towed last November 2022.After inspecting the car, the catalytic converter was clogged. After it was replaced, the owner has replaced spark plugs, coil packs, and oxygen sensor with no avail. The check engine light remains on. The converter is continuing to fail. No mechanic can figure out what it causing the issue.

I had my car for almost a year and kept up with the oil changes and other minor work on the vehicle. Then all of a sudden my oil light kept coming on when I had gotten an oil change two days before. I had a mechanic check under the hood and they stated it was no oil in the car i than told them that I just got an oil change two days ago and that I never had an problem with this before every since than I had to constantly get oil changes because the car would run down quickly. I took the car to Kia for them to take a look at it and found out I got a recall on the catalytic converter system and they claim to have fixed it. Kia stated there was no oil leak that would cause the car to continue to...

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made a knocking sound and then lost motive power. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and was towed to the dealer. The dealer performed the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the failure recurred. The dealer determined that there was sludge in the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but denied the engine replacement due to a lack of oil change records. The failure mileage was 82,858.

The catalytic converter needs to be replaced. This 2016 Kia Soul has been leaking or burning oil for over a year. I would have to either get my oil changed or put more oil in around 3,000 miles (It recommended to get an oil change every 5,000 miles with synthetic oil). I don't see oil on the ground, so it's either burning oil or leaking into the catalytic converter or elsewhere. I had the PI2002B done, but my car did not qualify for the SC176, 20V750, or SC200 recalls by one year. All of these recalls could affect the engine and catalytic converter. I have also brought it into the dealership at least four times in the last 2.5 years because the check engine light came on. The first time is when they performed the PI2002B (Product Improvement Campaign). Two times they said I needed a new gas cap. The...
