THE ENGINE BLEW UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, GOING ABOUT 65-70 MPH. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ENGINE EXPLODED BUT KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, THOUGH THEY HAVE A RECALL NOTICE OUT ON THE ENGINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAME INOPERABLE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 45 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT P0302 (CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE) AND P0420 (OXYGEN SENSOR) WERE RETRIEVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SANTA FE KIA (1701 ST MICHAELS DR, SANTA FE, NM 87505, (505) 982-1957) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING DAY THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 176,000. INVALID VIN.
I HAVE A 2013 KIA SOUL, I HAVE BEEN PAYING MY LOAN ON THIS CAR SINCE 2016. I TAKE CARE OF IT AND ROUTINELY DO OIL CHANGES ON IT AND UP KEEP. OVER THE COURSE OF THE PAST FOUR MONTHS I NOTICED MY CAR ACTING UP, I HAD TAKEN IT TO SHOPS AND NONE COULD FIND A PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS NOT STARTING UP, I WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE MY WHEEL TO MIRACULOUSLY GET THE VEHICLE TO START. THEN ONCE IT STARTED IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND WOULD SLOWLY GO INTO NEUTRAL. PROGRESSIVELY IT GOT WORSE, MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF IF I WAS PARKED OR AT A STOP SIGN OR WHEN GOING 20MPH OR LESS. ON 12/24/2020 AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN AS I RESTARTED IT, THERE WAS A LOUD CLANGING...
BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER. ROD BROKE, PUNCTURED THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH CAUSED THE OIL LEAKED OUT AND IT CAUGHT FIRE WITH MY DAUGHTER AND HER FRIENDS IN THE CAR.
ENGINE BEGAN MAKING TICKING NOISES WHILE STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO DEALER; DEALER CHANGED OIL & FILTER AND SAID PROBLEM WAS BAD OIL FILTER CAUSING LOW OIL PRESSURE. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER. RETURNED TO DEALER; TECHNICIAN HAS FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL AND EXPECTS COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE IN THE FUTURE.

AFTER SC176 RECALL REPAIR THE VEHICLE STILL DID NOT RUN CORRECTLY. AFTER ESCALATING FOR A VP, KIA REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I ASKED FOR THE PARTS BUT KIA SAID THE PARTS WERE THEIRS.THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE RUNNING CORRECTLY BUT FAILED IN NOV. 2020. I WENT ABOUT A MILE WITH THE CAR AFTER IT WAS SITTING FOR 2 DAYS AND THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND BLINKED AND ENGINE RAN ROUGH. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE KIA REPAIR. KIA SAID I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, WITH PARTS AND LABOR WOULD BE 6K TO INSTALL. I TALKED WITH 2 MECHANICS BESIDES KIA AND BOTH SAID THAT THE CAR AGE AND MILES IT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AND THAT IT HAD TO BE AN OVER HEATING ISSUE BUT IT NEVER OVERHEATED. I FOLLOWED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR MOST OF THE LIFE OF THE CAR.

RECALL #176: ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THERE CAN BE PISTON DAMAGE FROM THE OVERHEATING AND MISFIRING AS RESULT OF A BAD ECU. I RECENTLY HAD THIS RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED BUT THE DEALER IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE AND CHECK DEEPER. CURRENTLY, I AM BURNING ABOUT 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 200 MILES. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A PROBLEM. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THE CAUSE MAY BE FROM PISTON DAMAGE ORIGINATING FROM THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND I AM CURRENTLY STILL AT RISK OF SEVERE DAMAGE AND/OR DANGER. I DO NOT KNOW THE NEXT STEPS IN GETTING THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION.
AT 97000 MILES THE ENGINE BEGAN A TICKING NOISE. ALL FUEL AND OIL LEVELS WERE APPROPRIATE. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AFTER THAT NOISE BEGAN BEFORE I COULD GET INTO A SERVICE APPOINTMENT, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE TICKING GOT LOUDER THEN MADE A POOF NOISE AND THE CAR DIED. NO INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL LIGHTS, NOTHING. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP WHERE THEY STATED THAT A ROD HAD COME APART AND THE ENGINE NOW HAD A HOLE IN THE SIDE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.

REGARDING RECALL SC176 THE ENGINE IS OVERHEATING AND HAS ENGINE DAMAGE WHICH CAN LEAD TO THE VEHICLE STARTING ON FIRE. HAVE BROUGHT IT TO 2 DEALERSHIPS AND THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO BRUSH IT OFF SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG EVEN THOUGH IT IS OVERHEATING AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATES THAT THERE IS PISTON AND CYLINDER DAMAGE.

THE ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND ONLY ONES AFTER I ACCELERATE. AND THEN IT GOES AWAY IN A FEW DAYS AND COMES BACK AGAIN. I GET MY OIL CHANGE DONE REGULARLY BUT I STILL KEPT NOTICING BUT IT STILL KEPT HAPPENING.
