2018 JEEP COMPASS Electrical System Problems

August 14, 2024 - The vehicle stalled while driving. It restarted 30 minutes later and was taken to the Helfman Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM Fiat for service. The diagnosis did not indicate any issues. September 13, 2024 - Vehicle stalled. The engine could not start. To be towed to a service station.

Backup Camera rarely works most of the time just a black screen. The main problem however is that the auto start/stop is stalling my Vehicle when it tries to restart. Sometimes immediately other time in let me drive a tiny bit and than stalls. i have been to the dealership over 6 times and it continues to get worse. i've only had this vehicle 2 years in November.

I bought this car in 2018 with minimal miles on it, since then I have had nothing but issues with this car. Currently my oil cooler is leaking and at a mechanic shop because the closest dealer is an hour in a half and they tried to pull a fast one on me last time and I had to call corporate to report negligence. A few months ago my jeep started giving a "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" message on the dashboard. It comes and goes randomly, I could be started the car or driving it. I had to get it towed when it did it on the highway. The dealership said it was the batteries, we had those replaced. It was fine for about a week and then started doing it again. Took it again and now they are saying it is the alternator or the starter. Both of those were checked and it isn't that either. I now have a car that I am paying for and can not drive. Called Jeep customer service, they could not find a solution. Multiple people on multiple different forums are complaining about this same issue without being able to find a solution.

My 2018 Jeep Compass Latitude has had issues with the backup camera not working properly. It is NOT included in the recall for the 2022-2023 Compass with the same issues. The screen display will only show a black screen with "Check entire surroundings". When I was leasing, I took the vehicle to the dealership a few times for this issue. The backup camera was replaced in 2021 but it continued. It froze up as I was leaving the dealer so the tech got to see what was happening. He said it was was something in the wiring. On three separate occassions the vehicle has lost all power while driving and required towing to a repair facility. On two of these occassions the vehicle was traveling at highway speed and caused an usafe situation for surrounding vehicles. The batter and alternator were replaced and the vehicle lost power after these repairs. It is most likely the Totally Integrated Power Module, which has been the subject of numerous lawsuits for Chrysler Fiat vehicles.

When driving the electronic emergency brake self engages thus causing the car to come to an abrupt stop. You will need to turn the car off and on again to dis-engage the brake. This has happened sever times both on the highway and local streets.

Screen is not turning on. It is always problem to drive on reverse while on a parking places. Since back window is kind of small size, it is always hard to drive back and observe surrounding space by using just only rear view mirrors and back window. Camera view on a screen would help. But screen doesn't work. I've been in situation where I almost hit cars while moving on reverse. Thanks real axident didn't happen yet. But I really need this screen to work. 3 years ago the first problem started. If my car was idle for more than 15 minutes the SERVICE TRANSMISSION & CHECK ENGINE lights would turn on. I made an appointment at Jeep but could not be helped because the light turned off the next day. I was advised this would not be covered because I had 32,000 miles on the car. Last month as I was driving on the. Freeway my SERVICE TRANSMISSION & CHECK ENGINE lights turned own. The car slowed down. I pulled off the freeway and turned the car off. After 20 minutes i turned it back on and the TRANSMISSION light turned off and only the CHECK ENGINE stayed on. This has now happened twice. I took my car to a transmission shop and was advised to contact the manufacturer as this is a factory issue. Code P1dd2.

Seat heat turns on and off randomly by itself. Screen does not always work. Transmission jumped, service transmission came on. Took to dealer. They said updates to the computer system needed done and charged me $450 saying they were not covered by the warranty I bought from Mopar. If updates are required to keep you and your passengers safe how are they not free of charge and charge you almost $500 for these updates? Had I been on the interstate and not a side road my son and I could have been badly injured due to this problem. I will never purchase another car “American Made” again.

I will be driving at any speed and the engine will lose power and stall. Very similar conditions as the U87 recall. I have had my vehicle at the Jeep dealership multiple times and still have yet to fix the issue. When the vehicle loses power and stalls I pull over however sitting on the side of any road is dangerous, that if I can get the compass over to the side of the road.

radio software prevents the rearview image from displaying on the center screen when in Reverse.

We realized a headlight malfunction where the headlights randomly and intermittently turn off. Sometimes they both work, sometimes one or the other works. A year ago, we seemed to notice a headlight go out, then they both worked. It happened again, so we replaced the bulb. Just last night, my wife happened to be following me home at night and her right headlight wouldn't turn on. In the middle of driving, both headlights went out. Then, shortly after, her left headlight went out and the right one came back on. I searched Jeep forums and discovered this is actually a very common problem and is not unique. The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the headlights independently turned off. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was unaware of the result of the diagnostic test. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was serviced under Customer Satisfaction Number: W20 (Reprogram Power Train Control Module) however, the failure with the headlights persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

The auto stop/start feature on this vehicle continues to have issues after parts such as; alternator, batteries and cables were replaced twice!

Connect screen delamination. Screen is hitting all kinds of things on its own, calling 911 while I'm driving causing me to have to take my eyes off the road to frantically hang up the calls every few seconds.

The driver side headlight went out approximately 8 months after purchasing the vehicle used which was out of the 6 months that the dealer had a warranty. I have replaced the headlight and ballast and it is still not working properly. I have checked and confirmed voltage by testing the driver side against the passenger side which does work and all voltages match going into the rear plug of the headlight assembly. Looking on forums, I am not the only individual with this problem and the dealership wants to charge $170.00 dollars to run a diagnostic. This problem is certainly not due to lack of preventative maintenance, this appears to be a defect in the vehicle itself.

While driving I often get an oil warning light and have had my engine system entirely and randomly shut down while driving. I have the oil changed regularly and serviced regularly and still have this problem. The entire system shuts down while driving and I’m left unable to move. It’s incredibly dangerous!

My Radio has formed a bubble in it which is causing it to glitch and my backup camera to malfunction when driving and backing up I hit my fence because my radio glitched and keep having to replace the auxiliary battery in my jeep it’s been replaced several times

With absolutely zero prior indication of a problem, the car became completely immobilized in drive while attempting to turn after being stopped at a traffic light on a busy four lane road. Every imaginable code was cycling through on the dash and all warning code lights came on. I was unable to shift the car into any gear. Meaning, I could not shift into neutral to push the car safely out of the way of traffic. Additionally the car could not be turned off. Multiple times now while driving the vehicles emergency park comes on by its self. The vehicle stops and turns off while in the middle of the road. Other vehicles have had to quickly stop and go around. Recently the engine light has appeared. It happens 1-3 times while driving. Mainly while turning a corner.

Sway bar links are unsafe. Electrical system makfunctions after idling vehicle and at other random times, causing vehicle warning lights to illuminate abd vehicle won't function properly. Vehicle loses oil, 2,000 miles after each oil change a quart or more must be added then the same after each 1,000 miles after.

Basically it had to do with parking on a hill indicator, the radio wouldn’t always work either, and a loud boom on Highway. However we parked the car on flat grounds at all times. I have spent over 2500.00 on my HID headlights. They keep blowing I have replaced the headlight assembly along with bulbs many times. From what I can read it is an ongoing problem with this model. Also my lane departure system goes from side to side does not keep my jeep centered in the lane.

I was getting my car serviced, I was getting a State inspection the mechanic told me they could not inspect the vehicle due to the fact that a headlight was not working.. they tried replacing the headlight it still did not work.. Jeep Compass shut off without warning at highway speeds, in the middle of highway route 1 while I was going 50 miles per hour. State police had to stay while I got car towed out of road hazards way. When this has happened, the vehicle was no longer able to accelerate, and the power steering did not work. Loss of power steering made the vehicle difficult to steer off the roadway to safety.

Head lights not working.

When the vehicle halts at a red light or stop sign, it activates the auto stop/start feature, causing the engine to shut off. However, when I release the brake to accelerate, the car might briefly restart and then stalls. This has happened several times.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the 4-WD, ABS, Hill Assist, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the differential malfunctioned due to a tightening and then releasing that occurred while attempting to steer the vehicle. High Coolant Temperature Message appears on the dash and engine shuts off regardless of speed. Happens very often

Car struggles to start, Dashboard shows coolant temperature high then does not start. Usually it will start again once battery is jumped. It has happened 3 times since August 2023. Unsafe because it happens unpredictability and has left me stranded with a child in the car. It cannot be reproduced because it cannot be predicted. It has happened in different weather each time and at different times of the day.

My car stalled as I was about to turn after stopped at a red light. I tried to restart it several times and then I looked down and noticed the emergency brake light was on. I turned it off, tried starting it again and then it seemed fine. After 40,000 miles on the vehicle The stereo screen went black. By doing so, the backup camera does not work enabling us to see what is behind the vehicle.

The screen for the radio and other function is not operable. Occasional glitches to work but has lines all over the screen or is completely blank. I am unable to see navigations or use majority of the functions for the climate controls at all. I have taken it to a Jeep dealership and they have advised needing a whole new replacement which is going to cost a little ove $1,000. I have searched online and see that this is a know issue for 2017-2022 models. This should not be our responsibly to pay for.

I was driving my 2018 jeep compass with my 5 month old, my car slowed down to a complete stop and said put in park while I’m driving, the D on the shift control kept blinking. As I put it in park in the middle of the road it still didn’t work, so I shut my car off and tried to restart it, it did nothing and then randomly started on its own 2 minutes later, after driving it, it happened again! I almost got in 2 car accidents in less then 20 min as I can not move it to the side of the road it just stops on me. This has happened once more the day after! I have been having electrical issues with my vehicle for a while. I took it to get it checked at multiple places. I have been told about certain electrical issues the Jeep Compass has. i been told my starter, batteries, and/or alternator was or were the problems. i have replaced both of my batteries. One in which I replaced two times. I have also replaced my alternator and purchased a starter just in case that was the issue turns out the alternator wasn’t the issues. Now my vehicle isn’t cranking. I’m not sure if any of the safety recalls were fixed.

2018 Jeep Compass Limited has the OEM Bi-Xenon option equipped. The issue is with both headlights operating intermittently. It does not matter what position the headlight switch is in (Auto, On) they continue to alternate turning on and off. Sometimes one will come on and the other will be extremely delayed (15-20 minutes), sometimes both are delayed, and sometimes they do not come on at all. Shutting off and restarting the engine power does not help. The issue seems sometimes is worse if stopping for, at night, errands where the headlights then will not turn on at all. Later, next day, the whole issue starts again. This is a very serious issue.

Intermittent issue occurs where my radio screen looses power or displays code error please restart system, blinkers stop working, thermometer on display shows 2 dashes, climate controls stop working, hazards won’t work, directional buttons on steering wheel and ok button do not work to change display on dash. all of these happen at same time intermittently

Car went in for recall on start/stop issue a few months ago. Recently wife parked the car and turned it off. Several minutes later went to turn it on again and it was dead. Engine would not start and electronics did not work. Could not even put car in neutral to have towed. Had to get new aux. battery and unhook neutral on main battery just to get into neutral to be able to tow. Dealership in Mt. Airy, NC is now trying to say we caused issues by hooking up battery incorrectly which is untrue since the issue happened before anyone messed with the battery.

Unknown , it has been taken in for diagnostic testing and each time they stated they weren’t able to find anything wrong with the automobile.

My jeep has died 3 different times in traffic. Once at full highway speeds, once in a intersections, etc. All with my minor child involved. They have "serviced" My vehicle 2 timed already and returned it with the same dangerous issue. They are saying they fulfilled the recall because they replaced a part, yet the issue persists. Last time I checked, fixed things work properly. Please force them to fix or replace my jeep before myself or my child dies.

Car is intermittently stalling, power steering intermittently failing and all service lights come on at one time, took to a non Jeep dealership they diagnosed as a TIPM failure and told me to take it to a Jeep dealership , took to two Jeep dealerships and they said since the issue wasn’t happening while the vehicle is in their care there’s nothing they can do about it.

My 2018 Jeep Compass engine started locking up randomly in 2019. It would take about 15 minutes for the car to reset and start again. I started to notice it would happen more often in hot temperatures. The Jeep Dealer said they could not help unless they could recreate the problem, but it never happened at the dealership.
