2018 JEEP COMPASS Forward Collision Avoidance Automatic Emergency Braking Problems

I was driving up a hill and coming to a light. Another car was asking the turn at the light. I let off the gas to slow the car down and there was no way I was going to hit the car turning. The Automatic Emergency Braking engaged, slamming on the brakes, causing an abrupt stop in traffic. I was almost hit from behind because this system took over my car and did not allow me the driver to co trol the car.

When coming to a stop at a stop light or stop sign sometimes the car will stall and the automatic stop/start will turn off and put the cars emergency brake on. This is typically in the middle of traffic. I put the car in park and the car won't turn off. I have to take my foot off the brake while it is in park, turn off the car that way. Then to turn it back on, put my foot on the brake and start the car all over again. All while cars are behind me and it is taking me minutes to get my car moving. This is happening very often. It can happen in dangerous places in the road as well. This cannot be normal.

My car has had an ongoing issue where it doesn’t start and has even stopped while I was driving before and not turned on again. I had the battery changed and still the same issue. My gps is not locating the correct location of my car, also the warnings are wrong (blind spot, etc.) they go off sometimes when there is nothing there. It’s an angojng issue, I only added one incident date but there have been many and I think it is associated to the recalls on this model.

The jeep use to stop if I was going and a car suddenly stopped in front of me. But now it has done it 3 times and there wasn’t a car or anything infront of me.

These failures have occurred multiple times and forced me off the road to avoid collisions. They mirror known recalls on this model year and create a clear risk of injury or death. Attempts to Repair: The selling dealer (Coral Springs Pre-Owned Superstore) and an authorized Jeep dealer (Arrigo Jeep in Margate, FL and Arrigo Jeep Tamarac,FL) have repeatedly failed to identify or repair the issues despite video evidence. Theres a few issues with this car Im a mechanic and ive done some research on this vehicle there are multiple safety concerns including the engine for the 2.4L losing power while trying to accelerate, the abs system failing and electrical system throwing codes up that aren't actually an issue. I feel the whole car needs to be reassessed from the engine transmission all sensors and the brake system. There is a lot of issues with the new motor that was put in, including an issue with the 2.4L motor which is the oil pump housing causing the vehicle to stall and to lose power while accelerating. This is a major safety concern and could kill someone. Please fix it.

My 2018 Jeep Compass has an oil pump issue it seems. I read about previous scenarios and forums that had issues with this vehicle like mine. I would drive the vehicle and not within 5 minutes it will turn off half way down the road in the middle of an intersection that could have caused the lives of others and my child and myself. This vehicle is not safe at all! I have contacted and informed the dealership on multiple times about this issue.

I was at a red light and when the light turned and I put on the gas my car stalled. I could not shut off the car, it has a push button engine. The motor was off but on the dashboard it said the car was on and all of the electrical systems were still running (heat, radio, lights, etc). When I pushed the engine button, the car would not turn off. The parking break turned on by itself. I could not push my car to the side of the road. I was in the middle of traffic. I had to call for the police and for a tow truck. We still could not get the car to turn off (the motor was not on but the car's electrical system was still on). While driving with my wife and 3 kids the car automatically braked by itself. Lucky to be able to report this. The NTHSA doesn’t have any current recalls on my VIN. It should now this model vehicle could be causing future accidents or deaths. Hope this gets some attention asap.

When driving a warning sign came on saying stop safely your vehicle will shut off soon. When driving another time the vehicle shut off completely while driving and then came back on.

Multiple times now while driving the vehicles emergency park comes on by its self. The vehicle stops and turns off while in the middle of the road. Other vehicles have had to quickly stop and go around. Recently the engine light has appeared. It happens 1-3 times while driving. Mainly while turning a corner.

Jeep Compass shut off without warning at highway speeds, in the middle of highway route 1 while I was going 50 miles per hour. State police had to stay while I got car towed out of road hazards way. When this has happened, the vehicle was no longer able to accelerate, and the power steering did not work. Loss of power steering made the vehicle difficult to steer off the roadway to safety.

My 2018 Jeep Compass engine started locking up randomly in 2019. It would take about 15 minutes for the car to reset and start again. I started to notice it would happen more often in hot temperatures. The Jeep Dealer said they could not help unless they could recreate the problem, but it never happened at the dealership. My 2018 Jeep Compass started out having minor issues that I just blew off at first. First thing I noticed after purchasing it new was the cruise control wouldn't allow me to set speed. It only happened randomly, now its every other time the jeep starts up. Then my back up camera started going black. It worked more times than not. Well, time goes by and now the whole touch screen is black, or white lines, upside down, and sometimes just rolls then completely black. For the second time this week , the emergency brakes have engaged while my vehicle was in motion . Both times in the middle of a busy intersection . The car gives me about 5 seconds to try to get to somewhere safe before it totally cuts off. Luckily both times i was able to put hazards on , get a clear path to the side of the road and fidget with it until it started up again . Terrifying to think that i could lose my life or cause someone else to get seriously injured because my vehicle just STOPS in the middle of driving . With NO WARNING , and literally only seconds to react.

The car is unable to be driven. Sudden shifting and broken down ABS system

As I was driving my car and was stopped at a red left and when the green light came on my car shut down all of a sudden. My emergency brake turned on and it was not allowing me to turn on my car or drive it. This caused my safety to be jeopardizes because I was on the road and had no warning it was going to turn off on me. Then my engine light went on and i had to have it towed to the nearest mechanic and when they checked the car had 4 codes P0123 P0222 P2111 and U0420. All indicated that it was the Throttle. On 3/19/2022 and on 3/21/2022 while at a stop sign went to make a right hand turn and my car stalled and emergency brake engaged by itself. Had to wait a couple minutes and finally car restarted. Both times the car stalled in roadway, not enough power to pull off road. My Car has 45000 miles and original paperwork says Oil Consumption recall, however the VIN search does not show that at all. Car stalled at stop light. Threw on emergency brake, flashes ESC system fail. Auto stop/start flashes unable to work. Car wouldn’t move. Put in park tried to turn off wouldn’t shut down. Had to put on flashers as I couldn’t move. Finally after three tries putting it into park it shut down and was able to restart. This has happened 4 times now and doesn’t matter if I’m motion or stopped. It will shut down while driving down regular roads.

The car stops in the middle of traffic and doesn’t restart for about 5 mins causing traffic stops. People have to go around me because the emergency brake won’t disengage. I have had several lights flash on my dash (I have videos) and car would not start without a jump start. I took it to a dealership that told me I needed two new batteries (needing these because the vehicle ruined the two I had). EVER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FROM MARCH 2018 WHEN DRIVING (IN MOTION) MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL COME ON AND SHUT ME DOWN, I HAVE HAD ENOUGH! YESTERDAY 5/4/2021 I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI BECAUSE OF THIS. JEEP HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE. CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES BUT I KEEP BEING TOLD THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE ISSUE ( AS IT IS SPARATIC).

ON N/B I5 BETWEEN ALBANY AND SALEM OREGON, TRAVELING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 73MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ABRUPTLY BRAKING ON IT'S OWN. IN A MATTER OF SECONDS THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 73MPH TO APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, AND HARD/FAST ENOUGH TO LOCK THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY, TURNED BACK ON/OFF AGAIN, AND DRIVEN TO THE DESTINATION WITHOUT ISSUES. LUCKILY THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AT ABOUT 430AM AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. HAD THERE BEEN TRAFFIC A COLLISION WOULD'VE BEEN IMMINENT AND UNAVOIDABLE.

MY FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM GAVE A FALSE POSITIVE WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD WAY. IT ACTIVATED THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME FOR AT LEAST 40 YARDS AND CAUSING A VEHICLE THAT WAS FOLLOWING ME TO HAVE TO BREAK AND SWERVE TO MISS HITTING ME. I WAS ON RT 15 IN SHAMOKIN DAM AROUND 12:30 PM GOING 30 MPH
