Since taking over ownership in 2020 of a 2018 SUV that currently has only 61,000 miles I've had electrical issues with the auto start/stop warning light coming on/off intermittently. I was told by that make and model dealership that that happens for several reasons and was of no large concern. I've had the 1 electrical recall 'reprogrammed', but then my car wouldn't start on Thanksgiving. Replaced the main battery then took it back to dealership, $180 later was told the steering gear rack needs replacing. I've heard a clunking sound in the steering for about 2-3 weeks. How with so few miles is that possible? After replacing battery they also said all old codes should've cleared from system and hadn't so they cleared them. I've also noted multiple times that the coolant seems to run on the low side periodically. I've already had warranty replace the washer fluid resevoir next...
While driving, car began to overheat. I have recently completed an oil change where all my fluids are topped off to ensure proper functionality. Upon inspection, the coolant is completely empty and the car continues to use up coolant as it is used. Car becomes overheated within minutes of driving. When turning on the car occasionally, the dashboard flashes and does not work.
Vehicle has shut down while driving during three separate occasions between 2021 and 2022. While driving, the vehicle flashed a message across the dashboard stating wording about the Electric system and the coolant levels went up, the car stopped for a few seconds, the parking brake came on, radio went off (car powered down) then everything went back to normal. The coolant levels went down, the message disappeared, and I proceed to driving to my destination.
I was driving my daughter to school going 25-30 miles per hour and the car engine shut off as we were moving on the road. I didn’t realize it was off until I couldn’t move the steering wheel. The car stopped in the middle of the road disrupting traffic. The lights on the dashboard were on but the engine wouldn’t start. The dashboard message said “place the car on Parking, press the break and push the button to turn on the car”. I attempted several times to place the car in Parking but it wouldn’t recognize the shift. Finally after several harsh attempts of going from Drive to Parking on the shift, the lights went off and the car recognized being on Parking. I was able to turn the car back on and drove it to the dealer. This is the second time that the car shuts off, the first...
My car will flash a "Coolant Temperature Too High" message, vehicle shuts itself down. There is no way it’s too hot and it is really unsafe for my car to just shut down.
1. The car will stall while driving at highway speeds and/or will turn on the emergency brake after stopping due to a stop sign or traffic. Yes this is available for inspection. 2. Not as of yet, Jeep said it was a battery problem. 3. The vehicle has been inspected by Jeep. 4. There were no signs or symptoms of the problem prior to failure. It occurred from one day to another and has not stopped.
My car lost acceleration on nj Garden state highway driving 65 miles. Luckily I was driving in the right lane as this happened. I quickly flashed my hazards as soon as I noticed, to alert drivers behind me. My car slowly moved onto the side of the highway. My breaks would not fully stop the car. It finally stopped on its own luckily. I stayed on the side of the road for about a few good long mins trying to figure out what to do or WHO to call. I then tried turning on the car again to see if it would start. It turned on and the oil warning blinked for like one second. That was it. Never stayed on like other cars do. Not one warning beforehand. From my experience of owning other cars, if your car is running low on oil, a warning light comes on and...
About two weeks ago got to my destination ok. As I was leaving I tried to start the car and the brake pedal was hard to push. The car would not start but it would turn on. Nothing was left turned on before I started it. I looked at the voltage and it said 12.0. I kept turning on and off and the car would not start just turn on(radio and lights). Finally said maybe a jump would help. I found someone who could jump my car and it finally worked. Voltage went up to 14.2. My battery was changed exactly one year ago by a jeep dealer. Then this week I was driving on a local street and at a red light I stepped on the accelerator to go, the run stop feature stalled my car and shut it down. My breaks went hard, the voltage went down again....
My 2018 Jeep Compass, Limited stalls out as I am driving. The headlights have never worked and when they do work they are intermittent.
My Jeep has had intermittently headlight issues, along w/ blind spot not working on driver side, + start/stop doesn’t work. I’ve had the headlights replaced, didn’t work. Been told that because issue isn’t happening when in dealers care, then they can’t fix for other issues. this didn’t start happening until UCONNECT bricked my radio system with an update and I had to get it repaired (took two months) — I firmly believe it’s a electrical issue that stems from that but nobody (Jeep) is listening.
Car is stopping while driving at highway speed (second time in a little over a month). Car was taken to Spartanburg dodge after first incident. They claimed it was due to unknown factor and then claimed it was low on oil, which was not true as there was no warning or low oil warning. this car belongs to my daughter and the dealerships think that women are not knowledgeable enough to know of the oil situation. On public forums, there are many sites telling of exact problem and the dealerships will not take responsibility for the situation.
The Jeep started to get vertical lines in the 7 inch u connect screen. At first you could tap it and it would reset. Now, it is completely covered with vertical lines, the radio works, however the problem is the back camera does not show what is behind you due to the screen covered in vertical lines. It also does not show any information it is suppose to.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated he was unable to start the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he replaced the battery and alternator himself. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V524000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Stalled in the middle of traffic and would not switch out of gears almost was rear ended. Acceleration delayed and jerks when accelerating going up hill. Check engine light comes on if idling too long. Constant need for oil changes and burning smell of oil leak. Smoke coming from hood due to oil leak. Misfires and if idle temperature of coolant and transmission increases.
The vehicle would not go into gears engine stalled in the middle of road. the engine cut off after it slowed and wouldn't go down. consumes a lot of oil struts tips when turning and bounce when going uphills picked up speed on its on when the highway without pressing on gas pedal
I have not had an incident related to this report. The 8.4" Uconnect screen in my Compass is beginning to delaminate. At this time, about 20% of the screen is affected and has been getting worse over the summer. I have been aware of this problem for almost 1 year, meaning it must have started last summer. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I'm submitting this request because a handful of the safety features of my vehicle are controlled through this screen (forward collision, lane departure, blind spot, parking sensors) and severe delamination may render these settings unreachable. This has not happened to me, but other owners have reported "ghost touches" as the sensors begin to fail. This is an issue because the settings can be changed or turned off without the driver's knowledge, resulting in an unsafe driving condition. My local dealership has confirmed through visual inspection...
The Uconnect System on my 2018 Jeep Compass (19,995 miles) is failing/malfunctioning and the Stop/Start Technology has stopped working. Yes, it is available for inspection. After replacing the main battery, my UConnect system stopped functioning properly. It no longer receives a GPS signal rendering the navigation system useless along with the stolen vehicle assistance. Separate from that issue, the screen on my UConnect system is delaminating, which is a bubble that's formed underneath the outer layer. The delamination extends the entire width of the screen on top and covers the area where the time is displayed. This is causing the system to continually flash "Do you want to adjust your clock settings?" and makes a beeping sound every time it flashes. Just like when someone presses on the touch screen. Nothing stops it and it's very distracting. UConnect is the "brains" of the car and controls not only the time,...
The navigation/backup camera screen is going out. I cannot see when reversing, navigating, or any other function of the screen. This is a risk because I cannot use the backup camera properly to see cross traffic or other obstructions, such as children or pets. This started occurring in July 2022. When attempting to take it to the dealership in Roseville, CA, the service personnel told me I would have to replace the entire screen, and it would cost roughly $1,500. This was without him even having a technician looking at the vehicle.
The vehicle has a backup camera that works intermittently, but frequently shows either a black screen or a frozen image. I have scheduled service at the local dealership on two occasions, had to wait at least two weeks both times because the dealership could not work us in quicker. The camera started operating a day or two before the appointment on both occasions, so the dealership didn't do anything but verify that the camera is operating correctly. Note that this problem is recurring, but the intermittent nature has prevented any real diagnosis by the dealership. There are numerous anecdotal stories on the internet regarding this issue, but there does not appear to be any action by the manufacturer. Also, it is hard to get clear pictures of the screen, but I attached two with the hopes that they help. One basically shows the screen while the other shows the indicator...
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID "SERVICE ENGINE", THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND SHORTLY AFTER RESTARTED ON IT'S OWN. WHEN IT RESTARTED IT DID NOT ALLOW ME TO REACH THE PREVIOUS SPEED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO RESTART THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. IT DID FINALLY LET ME REACH A DECENT SPEED. I PARKED THE CAR AND THEN LATER STARTED THE CAR, IT APPEARED TO BE NORMAL, THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED AGAIN. AT HOME I WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THIS WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE CLOSE BEHIND ME THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT.
OUTRAGIOUS OIL CONSUMPTION, CAR SHUTS DOWN OR SLOWS DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY WHILE DRIVING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW READS CODE P1DD2, IVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 1.5 YRS. AND IVE HAD TO CHANGE OIL ABOUT 8 TIMES AND CARRY EXTRA OIL WITH ME IN CASE IT ACTS UP OR NEEDS IT. NOW CAR WONT GO OVER 30 MPH AND SPITS AND SPUTTERS. I JUST GOT AN OIL CHANGE DONE! LITERALLY 2 DAYS AGO. PLUS I JUST HAD TO REPLACE SWAY BAR LINKS AND BOTH FRONT TIRES DUE TO ACCESSIVE WEAR. THIS VEHICLE DOESNT EVEN HAVE 35,000 MILES ON IT. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO REPLACE THOSE THINGS SO SOON. PLEASE HELP!
My Jeep has been stalling on me my oil lamp came on twice the day before i didn’t think anything of it because i needed a oil change anyway got the oil change car stalled at a red light my auto stop start came on after i shunt the car down and turned it back on now it’s stuck on
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The traction control warning light illuminated and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact waited until the vehicle cooled down and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the ECM needed to be updated, and the battery needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was advised to contacted the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The week after I purchased it, the warning for my eco fuel came on and then service engine light. I was traveling at 45 mph and it instructed me to pull safely to the side of the road. Before I could do so, the car seized and jerked to a halt at a slowing speed of 10pm. The car had to be towed, “reset”. Since then I get the same alerts, the car will not accelerate when this happens and then slowly declines and shut down.
The stock radio is extremely hazardous. It started to delimite. It glitches all the time and takes my focus off the road. It randomly calls people, changes important settings such as safety features like the turn signal warning alerts and other functions. It changes the climate controls as well. I have to keep it off at all times due to the issues. There are lots and lots of other jeep/doge owners who have the same issues as I do. This needs to be recalled and taken care of for the safety of people and driving.
The truck just stopped in the middle of the highway. I came to a red light when it turned green the car would not move. The emergency brake engaged and would not disengage to allow the car to be placed in neutral. All power was loss with no warning or check engine notification. Come to find out both batteries were bad. Having the vehicle only 4 months and no one wants to take responsibility for the repairs.
Back Up camera says “check surroundings” but is a completely black screen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t…… most of time it doesn’t work. Sometimes it stays on when I’m driving forward as well. With the amount of complaints online about the 2018 Jeep Compass camera issues…. There should be a recall as it’s a safety issue!
the screen is delaminating this is a safety concern due to the uconnect system is malfunctioning due to the screen issue. there is ghost touching that changes things randomly in the car that is very distracting to a driver on the road.. ie radio stations changing, climate control changes, radio volume control. its quite shocking to be on the road and have the radio start blaring at you. I am worried that the back up camera will be affected by this issue and that is a huge safety issue. i did go to the dealership and they said i am out of the warranty time period for something like this.i have reported it to jeep copr and uconnect and both have said its not currently something they will fix. the bubble in the screen started in july of 2022 and keeps traveling from the top down.
Jeep Compass auto start/stop system malfunction causes vehicle to stall upon stopping. This is a significant safety issue as the stalls have occurred when stopping on major highways and interstates and other roadways. Once the stall occurs the steps and duration of time required to restart the vehicle are inconsistent. My vehicle has done this several times this week and is only avoidable if I happen to remember to turn the auto start stop function off. There is no warning that the stall is about to occur. The engine in this vehicle also has been replaced due to high oil consumption causing the vehicle to stop at roadway speeds without warning. I also had to have a door hatch replaced that impacted the vehicles start/stop function as well.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass Limited. The contact stated that half of the center display touchscreen was delaminating. The contact stated that the failure had caused the touchscreen to randomly engage and disengage the radio and AC system. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no additional information was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
I own 2 2018 Jeep Compasses and we have the same problem in both vehicles where the start/stop function malfunctions. It will either not work at all, or it randomly will cause our vehicles to stall, this happens more when our oil is low. The vehicles have stalled on me several times while driving in a public road with traffic behind me and almost caused me to crash. One Jeep has already been brought to a JEEP dealer (that charged us almost $100 to check for defects) and they said everything was fine. They do not acknowledge the problem nor do they try to fix it.
I have a 2018 Jeep Compass with 22k miles. The touch screen panel is delaminating, it started in June at the top of the screen and has already moved almost halfway down the screen. It’s causing “ghost touches”. The radio station changes on its own, the thermostat and seat heaters are turning off and on. It’s distracting while driving. The headlights intermittently stopped working about a month ago, one headlamp will work, the other won’t, then they will alternate, then neither will work. I normally keep the headlights on auto. I switched the dial to every setting, tried engaging high beams and nothing. I tried power cycling the car and no change. At one point no lights would come on, fog, parking or running lights. I had to drive home on the highway and backroads with no lights at night. I don’t know if the lights are going to work...
The vehicle consumes oil at an alarming rate despite being fixed by dealership. The oil pressure light will come on and stall the vehicle WHILE driving, usually while turning. This will shut off the vehicle in the middle of roads.
The unconnect radio worked fine for 3 years until I would have the heat running a while and then the screen would either go completely black or black with colored lines going through it. Since it has warmed up and now summer, I can come out and the screen does not work. This cause a safety issue it’s many blind spots in the vehicle and hard to see when going in reverse! Also the car’s temperature control settings are in the screen. When this happens at night it causes a issue because its like a flashing with the black and other colors it does when the screen goes out. I cannot control the radio, temperature, GPS navigation, backup camera, etc. Google it this is a know issue jeep need to put a recall out on these radios. The infotainment screen is delaminating. Safety at risk: This is a problem because...
This situation started back in April 2022. The steering wheel, ABS, Slip Hill, and other electrical lights came on. April 30th I took my Jeep Compass into the dealership where they said the front right sensor was the cause. The part came-in/installed on May 13,2022. Two months later the same thing is happening. The ABS, Steering wheel, Slip Hill, Check engine lights are all coming back on. I was driving when the Jeep stalled out and I got it to a nearby gas station where it took roughly 5mins to get it started again! While driving the Jeep home I noticed it started to smoke, so it has to be towed! The only appoint I can get is a month out! How am I to get around if I have to wait on service, Jeep do something about this issue that has been happening to many of us that Love...
After leaving the freeway, my vehicle completely shut itself down without warning while in traffic. (The "Auto Off" feature was off, so that my car wouldn't shut off at a light.) The dash completely turned off as well as the console. When I attempted to restart it, 4WD service not available and a coolant over temp warning was displayed and showed the coolant temp was all the way at it's hottest. Even though the entire drive up to this point showed the vehicle was running at it's normal temperature. After a minute or 2, the vehicle finally started, after blocking traffic the entire time. Now the temperature was showing normal but now the "Auto Off" was disabled was showing on the dashboard. I pulled into a gas station and the vehicle did the same thing again. I opened the hood to find that nothing seemed out of the ordinary and...
There are so many issues I hope I can get it to fit. I love my jeep but after reading all these problems. Having all of them but showing no recalls. I am frustrated. My car is unsafe. It has left me stranded time and time again. And all I do is put money in it. Something needs to be done about it. 1. Since week 5 of owning my 2018 compass I have been told the alignment is terrible. I have replaced tires over 10 times due to wearing down on the inside before reaching 20k miles. 2. Massive oil consumption. I have a constant oil burning smell inside my vehicle when the ac is on and off. Oil is visible under the hood. My car is very well maintained. Checked daily because it goes so fast. 3. The engine runs so hot you can feel it inside at...
As I was driving my car and was stopped at a red left and when the green light came on my car shut down all of a sudden. My emergency brake turned on and it was not allowing me to turn on my car or drive it. This caused my safety to be jeopardizes because I was on the road and had no warning it was going to turn off on me. Then my engine light went on and i had to have it towed to the nearest mechanic and when they checked the car had 4 codes P0123 P0222 P2111 and U0420. All indicated that it was the Throttle. When my regular mechanic finally checked it he said the Throttle was broken and needed to be replaced. I never had any warning or had my car experience any of this prior to this incident. This car is only 4...
My Jeep burns through oil very fast. My oil change sticker will stay I do not need an oil change for 2,000 more miles but my car will shut off WHILE driving and then be hesitant to restart. My engine light will then turn on. I will go to get an oil change and there will be nothing left. I will get an oil change and then everything will be fine again for the most part. There is no recall on my VIN but there needs to be. It is incredibly unsafe because my car has shut off on me while driving and then will not start until after a few attempts.
I believe I received a faulty vehicle from Brooklyn Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. Located at 2286 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234. I received this vehicle in October 2021 with a dead battery and a faulty engine. I returned the vehicle, and services claimed to fix all the issues. The next day my car completely shuts down on the highway in the middle of traffic nearly causing an accident. I immediately contacted Jeep to let them know my concerns. Since, the car has completely shut down in the middle of me driving multiple times. This is creating a hazardous environment for myself and others. I returned the car to Jeep and told them I am no longer comfortable driving this vehicle especially since I got it within reasonable mileage (18K). I was told that if I wanted to give the vehicle back I would have to pay $10,000 to do so....
The wire behind screen gets too hot and none of the controls work. It overheats the screen and it won't turn on. Also it took 15 minutes to unlock the doors more than one time. Something with the lock mechanisms is faulty. In the cold winter the doors won't unlock and open . Very poorly designed. I love this jeep but don't have the money to fix ALL of these issues. It has really low miles too.
The touchscreen randomly started switching between phone calls, navigation, and other functions of system due to touchscreen separating from the LCD of the unit. Malfunction distracting and disabled functionality of the system.
The rearview camera does not turn on occasionally when backing up. The center infotainment display will show the welcome agreement screen and will not show the RVC screen. I have to put the car into park and back into reverse to get the RVC to show. Sometimes I have to accept the agreement first. It's very dangerous because I start to backup thinking the display will show but after moving a couple of feet backwards it never shows up or shows up too late. This happens about 1 in 5 times I start the car.
The car stalls when slowing down to approach stop signs and intersections, and the power steering is lost causing a dangerous situation. One instance it stalled while driving on a highway at 55 mph which was frightening! Luckily I was able to glide off to the shoulder without causing an accident. The start/stop notification showed on my dash, advising me to restart the vehicle. I had to put the gear back into park and try to restart. It took a couple of tries to restart the vehicle.
Radio, navigation, backup camera touch screen is not working properly and sometimes changes settings, views and stations on its own. When using backup camera this creates a dangerous situation. Radio station changes can be a distraction situation while driving.
The automatic start stop function constantly goes out, TCM unable to send signal to transmission to shift. Caused the car to stall in an intersection and self applied the emergency brake at around 5mph causing the vehicle to jerk to a halt. Car inexplicably throws service engine code and then transmission downshifts to 30mph from higher speeds nearly causing wreck.
Car stalled at stop light. Threw on emergency brake, flashes ESC system fail. Auto stop/start flashes unable to work. Car wouldn’t move. Put in park tried to turn off wouldn’t shut down. Had to put on flashers as I couldn’t move. Finally after three tries putting it into park it shut down and was able to restart. This has happened 4 times now and doesn’t matter if I’m motion or stopped. It will shut down while driving down regular roads.
On 2 separate occasions, my Jeep Compass has stalled completely shutting off, emergency brake engages on it's own and the steering wheel locks and the vehicle will not restart immediately. I have been on slight upward grades both times and vehicle starts shifting backwards as I attempt to get it restarted and it would not restart immediately either time. Vehicle had to be put in park, I had to wait atleast a minute if not 2 or 3 to get it to restart. Had I been in higher traffic areas or on a highway, this could have caused a major accident. Jeep dealers near me are backed up on service dates telling me they can't get it in for atleast a month and a half so I took it to a local certified mechanic who said nothing is throwing a code and drove it, but this didn't occur while they...
I purchased my 2018 Jeep Compass Limited as a certified pre-owned in late 2019 or early 2020. Late December 2021 I noticed that my infotainment screen looked strange so I began searching online and discovered the delamination known issue with the 2018 Jeep Compass screens. I took the car to the dealership that services it for me and they acted as though they had never heard of the issue (which I was certain wasn't true) before finally admitting they had "a couple" of these issues brought in. The only remedy according to them is for me to pay $1995.00 for a replacement. I am disabled and do not have that kind of money for the repair. A few short weeks later and now my backup camera isn't working at all, my screen randomly freezes up while driving or won't shut off when the car is turned off. My heated steering...
While parked for maybe 10 minutes, the service engine and service transmission lights dinged. When putting in reverse it shifted really hard and felt like the car jumped. No problem going in reverse, but would not accelerate very well, couldn’t go over 30-35mph. Going on 2 days now! The code we’ve gotten is “P1DD2”, but no one seems to know what it means. Taking it in Monday morning. Very frustrating and not safe at all!! I’ve read several issues of the same incident(s).
