Constantly have to get oil changes. Initially when I would be due for another oil change, the mechanic mentions there is no oil. I started to come sooner than the due date and mileage and same issue. Oil is burning quickly. Car is stuttering and jerky on acceleration, but my car is not apart of that recall. The car headlights continues to change on it on and filters through the light settings on it’s on at random times.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact also became aware that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

My car has been having engine problems causing it to stall while driving. It won’t go past 20miles per hour even if I press on the gas FULLY. This has been happening on and off for a couple of months now. It also burns thru my oil change in less than a week. I took my Hyundai into the dealer multiple times because of the way it drove since 2019 and they always sent me away saying that it was normal. But this car has been a constant stress in my life. Driving it has felt dangerous. Something is definitely WRONG with it and I’m not sure why this recall on the engine now powering up hasn’t hit yet. Death trap of a car.

Hello, I have a serious problem with my Hyundai Tucson 2017 which is excessively burning oil. An oil change has been done on December 26 2023 (125.600) and a service was due 3 month later (3.000 miles) to perform an oil change but when I went for the oil change on March 26, 2024 at Jiffy Lube, they noticed that there was no oil in the engine and no leaks and suspected that the vehicle might burn oil and the performed a full synthetic oil change (service due after 7500 miles) and after 2800 miles on May 17, 2024 when I checked the oil level, I couldn't see any mark on the stick. I brought them the car and they checked if there was any leak then they filled up the engine. I was monitoring and on June 15, 2024 after 780 miles the level was below the minimum level....

There are two issues. Acceleration failure while driving and excessive oil leaks that require continually adding oil to the engine. Yes, it is available for inspection on request. The acceleration failure is a safety risk and does put others in danger when I cannot accelerate when needed. For example, entering a freeway. The car has stalled and cut out going only 15 mph. This never happened while stopped, just as I was accelerating from a stopped position. I cannot get on roads where the speed limit is above 50 mph because the car will not go over 50 mph. The manufacturer has inspected these problems. Charged me to correct them, and a month later the problems returned. NO warning lights, or anything, at any time.

On [XXX] my 2017 Hyundai Tucson check engine light came on on [XXX] in Atlanta. Just moments afterward my car began to reduce its speed. It was not driving nearly like it should. My exit was approximately 4 miles from when the check engine light came on. At my exit car started vibrating, I did not think I was going to make it through the light. Even though my car was not driving right and the check engine light being on I did not want to stop and be stuck on the side of the road. I was headed to my daughters house about 2 and half miles off the interstate. With my emergency flashers on I made to her subdivision. As I proceeded up the hill it would not go, it started going in reverse. Needless to say I was starting to panic. My son in law was the...

Tucson currently has 98,000 miles on the engine and is burning extreme amounts of oil. Oil consumption issues became known as early as 75,000. Per 1,000 miles of driving, the Hyundai dealership notes the car is losing over 2 quarts of oil. I have been having to return to the dealership every 1,000 miles to be monitored. I have already had to pay replace my catalytic converter, which I believe was a result of the excess rate of oil burn from the engine. I have also had to pay to replace the oil gaskets in the oil pan even though there was no noticeable sign that the engine was leaking oil. I am now being told I am going to need to have an engine head cleaning repair that will take several days. Once that is complete, I will have to undergo continued oil consumption testing to determine the results....

Engine blew up before oil change was required and car is under 100,000 miles Engine presumably failed on the way home from work, was making a sound. Parked the car, got in the next morning to take it to the repair shop. Check engine light came on during transit. They called and said there was a rod bearing failure and advised that I have it towed to Hyundai for possible warranty work. Car will be repaired in 4-6 weeks. Nalley Hyundai in Lithonia Georgia is not able to provide a loaner car as there are 11 people on the waiting list before me. I have 2 kids and a full-time job. I now have no car for 2 months.

Engine has been burning through oil fast, requiring me to add oil every couple of weeks. 2 difference service places have told me this and also told me to contact Hyundai to file a complaint, as many other 2017 Hyundai Tucsons have recalls out for the same reason. This could cause an engine to fail if oil burns all the way out without my knowledge - safety hazard for me and others on the road. Car also sputters and struggles to accelerate at times, which has been an issue since getting the car in 2020. Please consider recalling to fix said issues.

Have been driving the vehicle for nearly a year but while driving my motor blew exhausting blue all black smoke and then when I turn the car off the car was completely dead when I was getting it towed it could not be told because both of the front wheels had locked and no matter if I put the vehicle in neutral the car will not move come to find out that the bearing ride has shot a hole through the motor block. Took the vehicle to two different Hyundai dealership was told the same thing that no one would take the vehicle or trade it in for an the value for another vehicle that I was stuck with the vehicle and had to pay for the damages which was about 12 Grand also vehicle has been down in my driveway for the last year now cuz Hyundai refused to...

Had had the vehicle approximately four months (purchased at Irwin Dealership in Laconia, NH) when the vehicle would not start. It was rendered non-functional. It was “repaired” in February 2023. When picked up in Feb after Irwin dealership in Laconia, NH had had it for almost 3 wks, they told me it had carbon buildup. It had only been driven about 4,000 miles since it had been purchased on [XXX], 2022. They changed the oil (oil changes are recommended every 5,000 miles). It died again on [XXX], 2023; again it had been driven less than 4,000 miles and was not yet due for an oil change. It has been there since. They (Irwin) wanted service records, I told them all I had from prior to purchase was the carfax, and that they had performed the only service because I hadn't driven it long enough to have even had a second...

I religiously come into a auto repair shop for oil changes. Well before my next scheduled change, my engine started to make thumping noises. I filled up the engine with oil before taking it in to the auto body shop. The shop informed me that the engine needs to be replaced. They also informed me that this seems to be a recurring issue with Hyundai's and that a lot of owners are experiencing high oil needs for their engines. Neither my check oil light or check engine light notified me that there was low oil before the damage occured on my engine. I have filed a report with Hyundai as well and am still waiting to hear back from them.

The engine sustained a crack and oil was leaking out of a cylinder. Initially thought to have been an oil problem since the check oil light would come on. Vehicle was taken to a dealer where they determined it was a bad cylinder. They did not have the correct tools to get into the block so they kept the vehicle for over a month. They returned the vehicle back and shortly after the issue started to happen again. The engine was knocking really loud and cannot accelerate over 40 miles an hour. We took it back to the dealer where they determined that it was a faulty engine and had requested all of the oil change and maintenance records. This vehicle had been taken back to the dealership on multiple occasions for routine maintenance. Talking to the maintenance technicians they could not find any record of us taking the vehicle...

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine). The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was an abnormal burning odor detected. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

After owning my vehicle for 4 years, it has started burning oil. Burning about 2 quarts every 14 days. Was directed by dealership to perform oil consumption test every 1000 miles, which is all logged through the dealership and was sent on my way. The problem is now affecting my spark plugs and could packs. After all we're replaced/changed, when plugs are removed, they are covered in oil and are fried! Hyundai has not addressed the issue, but many consumers have this same problem.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 72 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated and there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was recommended that the vehicle be taken to another dealer. The vehicle was taken to another dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving approximately 60 MPH, there was a popping sound and smoke before the engine exploded. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was towed to another dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact discovered Technical Service Bulletin: 20-01-024H-1, however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately...

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle started to lose motive power. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle after 5 minutes. The contact attempted to drive the vehicle to the residence but had to continually restart the vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine). The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that there were no engine recalls associated with the vehicle. The contact also stated that the dealer would not repair the vehicle due to the vehicle being over the warranty coverage. The manufacturer was not made of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated the vehicle started to stall. The vehicle was moved over to the shoulder and there was smoke coming from the engine. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I purchased my vehicle on Feb 17th and 2 weeks later the engine shut down on me and wouldnt restart. My mechanic said that i need a new engine.

There's a known leak with oil in the engine, this was brought to the dealers attention and they said it was a known issue however no fixes were avaliable. While driving on the highway without warning I lost accelerator access. The car wouldn't go. The engine started knocking and would not propel forward. It was advised after diagnostics were done that two of my cylinders lost compression and therefore the engine was blown. They said this is a highly known issue with Hyundai Tucson 1.6T engines. I've lost money, time and work behind this ordeal.

We purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon in April 2023 with 79 k miles. Realized after a short time that it was consuming too much oil. Started doing some research and found that this has been a problem for many Hyundai/Kia engines. We were checking the oil often and topping it off as needed plus, oil changes at 3000 miles. There were no check engine lights on and no leaks of fluids on the ground, no loss of power. Fast forward to March 2024. Driving down the interstate on a trip the engine just shuts off. Luckily my daughter was able to make it to the shoulder without getting hit by another car. The vehicle would not restart. I started looking for someone to tow the vehicle a State Trooper stopped to assist her and her passengers. Vehicle was towed. Mechanic charged the battery, checked the terminals, tested the alternator, and...

On March 9, 2024, I was driving when suddenly a warning light sounded from the dashboard that the engine "overheated" and there's a loss of power. I was very scared driving for the first time in my life. Before I pulled over to a safe place, a driver nearest to my car pulled his window down and shouted that my car was smoking. I was terrified. This incident triggered my husband's mental health conditions. I called my niece who is a registered nurse to help us. I called my car insurance for towing to the next dealership that I called about what happened. After I rented a car, I went to the dealership. However, the Service Department was closed after 4:00 pm. The next day (Monday), I received text messages that they're working on my car and the only communication was "text messages." I was stunned! The next message was...

2017 tuscon with less than 100k miles, started making knocking sounds and unable to accerlate. The engine light came on. I go to the dealership, without any inspections he says it's a rod bearings. The 1.6T engine was retired because of the issues and they are still selling these faulty vehicles! I've only had the vehicle for 2 yrs.

My 2017 hyundia Tucson is using a minimum of 1 quart per 1000 miles . Always serviced by the dealer . There is no smoke , no leaks and always serviced at the dealer . Started the car in the morning and the engine was making lifter noise . I checked the oil and nothing registered on the dipstick.

The vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection. No warning lights were illuminated, no dashboard indicators were illuminated prior to and or during the time of the vehicle stalling in a 3 lane intersection. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. Upon inspection the mechanic stated the engine appeared to have significant rod wear and tear not indicative of the year the car was built. He stated this make and model were under a recall with Hyundai and he would not complete any repairs until Hyundai was able to review in the event the car was under recall. I called the manufacturer and the individual said the vin was not under recall, there was nothing they could do. I explained the safety concerns at that time and was advised to have the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership for further review by Hyundai due to meeting all criteria...

Campaign 209. Hyundai is refusing to provide assistance under recall campaign 209 for our VIN. Our vehicle has premature rod bearing failure causing engine failure. Rod knock noise. My wife drives the 2017 Hyundai Tucson. This year in June 2023 our vehicle check engine light came on for knock sensor. Soon after the vehicle started having acceleration issues, then the oil pressure warning light would come on and off. The vehicle oil level was checked, and we learned the vehicle oil level was low. The vehicle was through burning oil. The vehicle had burned through a quart of oil with no explanation. Our VIN # for our vehicle indicates there is an active recall Campaign #209 for Rod bearing issues with our specific model and VIN. Our specific vehicle and VIN when entered into Hyundai’s website reflects active recall. We took the vehicle into Red Mccombs Hyundai Northwest to have...

Engine knock, called multiple dealers… told it sounds like connected bearing engine issue, and it’s due to blow, try to make it here, if light comes on for engine.. stop do not touch car it will blow. Drove slowly to swap for a rental on highway as told. Engine blew as engine light flashed, car got louder, smoke came out of car, and a piece from engine blew underneath to behind my car on highway. VERY TRAUMATIC.

After I stop at a stop sign and start to go my car stalls in the intersection. I have been to dealership multiple times and they tell me different things last time they refused to address the problem and told me to replace the turbo which I did and still having issues. I am scared to drive my car

Four days while driving on streets and freeways in Oklahoma City My 2017 Hyundai Tucson turned off and stalled. Lots of lights came on. Luckily I was able to get out of traffic without getting rear ended. I took the suv to local Hyundai dealer and they couldn’t find the problem. The second time I took it to the dealer they replaced sensor crankshaft to clear lights that were coming on. Paid $209.27 for multi point inspection and paid $412.62 for second repair. I’m frustrated because I was without transportation for 4 days. Dealerships did not offer a car for me to drive.

Bought this one (~80K miles) ~Oct/Nov 2022 from a local dealer as a used car (I was the 2nd owner). The oil light was on when I drove it ~1500 miles. I was surprised and went to shop to do my first oil change. I thought probably that the last oil change they just did not top it up. Unfortunately, after it, I noticed that the oil consumption was much quicker than it's supposed to be and required me for oil change more frequently. On 10Feb24 (it had ~97K miles), the car started to vibrate when I started the car. I noticed a "green/blue" fume came out when I stopped/started from a traffic light. On 12Feb24 morning, I drove it to a local dealer, the ~3 miles ride became a horrible experience in my life. The car is shaking and making a terrible noise, the "green/blue" fume busted out, felt...

The contact's family friend owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while the family friend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made an abnormally loud knocking sound. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with connecting rod bearing wear and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer denied the engine replacement due to a lack of service records. The vehicle was then towed to Hyundai of 110 (2100 Broadhollow Rd, Farmingdale, NY 11735), where it was also diagnosed with connecting rod bearing wear and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at Hyundai of 110. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine); however,...

UNKNOWN While driving, the check engine light came on and the car started idling rough. When accelerating the car would shake tremendously, feeling like it would die right there in the middle of the road. When I stopped at where I was going, I checked the oil and there was no oil in the engine. I added oil but it did not help the situation. I made an appointment with the dealership in Waco, Texas and when I showed up they stated they no longer had room for me and to make another appointment. They also stated I didn’t have a warranty as I am not the original owner even though I purchased the extended warranty and I have not passed the mileage or date. This is unacceptable as I do not feel safe driving my car and they did not honor the appointment I made.
#11568142 |
The dealership that we bought the car from has maintained it since new,we have spent lots of money on maintenance and repairs there.we have been complaining about oil consumption between scheduled changes and now the engine started knocking,we are afraid to drive it.we are going to see if the dealer will honor the extended warranty we paid for when we bought it

Car has 125,000 mi on it. This will be the 3rd catalytic converter in 2 years. Second one was March of 2022. I have excessive oil consumption (1QT every other week). Which I believe causes the exhaust system to clog. It’s an engine flaw design I believe. The issues isn’t the converter but the oil consumption contributing to the clogging. The vehicle actually had complete engine failure while I was driving on the interstate Dec 23, 2023 driving at 70 miles an hour! It was caused by the clogged converter! I could have died! Thank you.
#11567476 |
I was driving at 10 mph speeding up and the engine went out. There was oil in the engine so it wasn’t from lack of maintenance and I just bought the vehicle a month and a half prior to the incident.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle was running rough and would not accelerate as needed. The contact also stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled, was shaking, and made an abnormally loud sound while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer due to appointment availability, but another dealer suggested calling the NHTSA Hotline to check for recalls associated with VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

NHTSA Recall No. / MFR Recall No. : 21V-727 / 209 Recall Subject : Engine Damage May Cause Stall or Fire I am the second owner of this vehicle, purchased Jan 2021. I have not received any letter, calls, notifications from the Hyundai dealer where I purchased regarding any sort of recall for over the last 2 years. It was not until I went to get an oil change and I was told there was ZERO oil in my vehicle. The car will not hold oil, does not leak onto the ground, makes a knocking sound and not once has the oil light came on to alert me. This was my very first car purchase and to have a problem such as this is very frustrating. Not to mention that I have had zero notifications about this recall regarding this issue for my car. It was not until I decided...

The vehicle drove fine on Christmas Eve. Then Christmas Day while leaving from a visit the car was in then randomly shut off in the middle. Checked the inside. No issues. Made it home and tried to go back out, the car crunk up and after a few seconds cut off. Tried it again and it started knocking. Checked everything again. Tried to crank the car up after about 30 seconds the car got extremely loud and shut off again. A mechanic came to check the car and said it was the engine/motor. Then another mechanic at the shop mentioned that it appears to be similar to the issues in recall 209. Along with multiple other possibilities since Hyundai has been having issues with engines for years.

Engine check light came on on 1/4/24 took it to dealership they ran a quick check and they said it had multiple misfires. The car has a lot of carbon buildup and they recommend a 24 hour cleaning which will cost me over $700.00. The car stalls and starts shaking as I speed up. I don't feel that a care with less than 70,000 miles should have this problem. Mine also has now been using up the oil very quickly.

My engine began making a loud knocking sound. When I brought the car in, I was told the rod bearings were warped, that the sound I was hearing was a rod hitting the engine, and that the engine would need to be replaced immediately or it would "seize up" at any moment. No warning light came on. There is a recall out for this issue for the same make, model, and year, but I was told my VIN did not qualify under the recall. I opened a case with the national office to have my car included under the recall as it is the same issue with the same make, model, and year, and was denied. I had to spend several thousand dollars on a rental car and purchase a new vehicle. The issue with the Hyundai has still not been addressed or remedied. When I went back to the...

Chronic over consumption of oil. You could change the oil and a day later the oil is completely black and burnt. Roughly lost a .5-1quart of oil a week doing minimal commuting. Eventually the wear from oil consumption left us with a cylinder loss and in need of engine replacement. The vehicle only has 65k miles. Clearly this is a serious problem with these cars. There is an active recall for this problem but our VIN doesn’t list. This is also the problem with many others who I have seen across all forums quora, Reddit, etc. We are sold Lemons and then footed with the cost to replace when this problem is very much known. It’s wrong on every level.

I was driving the car home and the check engine light came on , the oil light came on and the battery light. The car shut off and I coasted off to the side of the road and proceeded to get the car towed home. I then called larson hyundai in olympia wa. The first service advisor I spoke with after I told her what happened told me the car had a recall that was open for the engine and to bring it in on Nov 15 The car sat for 2 months waiting for the appointment. I finally dropped the car off at the dealership on Nov. 15 and two weeks later I get a call from the service department saying that it won't be covered. This is completely unacceptable And the car needs to be fixed Also the service advisor who is currently working with the car is...

I was driving down the road and my “check engine” light came on and started blinking. Immediately afterwards, I noticed that my car acted like it would not accelerate. When I came to a stoplight, it was very sluggish to accelerate. I was right near an O’Reilly’s so I pulled in and had them use the code checker. It showed a P1326 code and I was advised not to drive the vehicle. I had my car towed to the dealership. The dealership called me the next day and advised me that the engine would need to be replaced, but the cost would be covered by an extended warranty. However-they told me it would be 2 months before I would get the car back!! They are not offering a loaner car nor offering to pay for a rental car! There is less than 65000 miles on my car! This is an...

My engine began to leak and burned oil to a point where it needed oil changes much frequently than normal. Within 2 months of being made aware of the leak, I began to hear knocking noises. Once I return again to the dealership I was made aware now I needed a new engine. How is it that I've had my vehicle serviced only at a Hyundai Motor dealership and once my warranty is out, I now need an engine? What makes matters worse, there is a current recall on my vehicle year and make for the engine but I was told that my engine doesn't fall under this recall. I beg to differ! I am frustrated that I have yet another Hyundai that has failed me and I am stuck without a vehicle.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was blown, and the contact was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

I bought the car with 83,000 miles 9 months ago. It had engine failure at 104,000. From the beginning the car stalled when trying to accelerate almost got hit several times. The car had major oil consumption issues with no leak. The car died without any warning lights almost causing an accident. I rolled into oil change place. Car was low on oil. It had engine failure.
