The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering assist and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The contact stated that the traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with the power steering needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (Steering). The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
Power steering unit is faulting. A recall exist on the make and model but not on my VIN#. Was at Ford dealer two weeks ago for a message that read "service power steering soon" and they were unable to find issue. Now Power steering is locked up and message " POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" appears. When you turn the car off and back on the message disappears and steering moves.
I recently bought this car and one morning I get up and the power steering assist fault indicator warning light and a chime sound was flashing in my dashboard. I have family and a busy life style which is putting them and myself in danger. I have a appointment with Timpton Ford on the 22nd of June 2021 for this issue. Also not even 3 days later my car would not stay cranked due to the fuel pump I would turn the key over it would start and a few seconds later it would die. I need to know if my car can be fixed.
UNKNOWN One day I was driving my car like normal, I stopped and parked it and a message saying "Service Power Steering Now" popped Up. I immediately lost all power steering.

The local dealer was contacted about the failure however, the dealer was unable to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while reversing, the electric power steering failed and the steering wheel ceased. The failure occurred on three separate occasions. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the Vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Power steering service now light came on driving away from my neighborhood and started making a loud noise on right front wheel of car, pulled over to see if I had a flat and did not. Turned around and went back home so I wouldn’t get stuck somewhere or wreck. While driving to the shop to get it looked at the power steering failed and could barely turn the wheel. This could have resulted in a wreck. The shop confirmed the power steering is out on the car again! Power steering sensor was recently replaced after wreck therefore it shouldn’t be going out a month later.
Power Steering stopped working for third time in last four years. It makes the vehicle difficult to drive.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, SERVICE POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK MESSAGES DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. THIS RESULTED IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AND, IN TURN, CAUSED EXTREME DIFFICULTY TURNING AND MODERATE DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT LINE. ACCORDING TO FORD, THE ENTIRE STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE PSCM IS INTEGRAL TO THE STEERING GEAR. REFERENCE EXISTING RECALL#15V340000 FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPONENTS, BUT NOT INCLUSIVE OF MY VIN.
I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A UTURN WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP ON ME. SCARY AND DANGEROUS. I HAD TO MAKE A LEFT INSTEAD OF THE UTURN THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN. FEW MINUTES LATER I WENT TO THE BANK AND PARK IN A PARKING SPACE, WENT BACK TO MY CAR TO LEAVE AND MY STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. HAD TO GET A TOW HOME. SAID POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT
POWER STEERING JUST DIED WHILE I WAS ON HIGHWAY ALMOST LOST CONTROL AND SERVICE POWER STEERING CAME ON FUNNY THING IS IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IT IS HORRIBLE.
POWER STEERING WENT WHILE PARKING CAR. FORD SAID STEERING RECALL NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS VIN BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT IN A DIFFERENT PLANT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, IF THE STEERING WENT OUT AT A HIGHER SPEED IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. ALL 2012 FORD FUSIONS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY ALL RECEIVED THE SAME POWER STEERING COMPONENTS REGARDLESS OF WHICH PLANT THEY WERE BUILT IN.
I WAS PULLING OUT FROM MY PARKING SPOT (PARALLEL PARKED) WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED OUT OF MY HANDS AND THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST LIGHT POPPED ON. I WAS ON A SIDE STREET BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE AFTER PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER, IT EASILY COULD HAVE CREATED A WRECK. WHEN THE WHEEL JERKED, I SLAMMED MY BRAKES ON. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THEN ON, AND THE LIGHT POPPED OFF. I RE-PARKED IT BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, AND BEFORE RE-PARKING, THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND LOOKED ON LINE (FORD RECALL #15S18, NHTSA #15V340000). WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL RANGE, EVEN THOUGH IT DID INDEED FAIL THE SAME WAY THESE OTHERS FAILED. BECAUSE IT WAS OUTSIDE OF THE...
THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR THE PART I HAD TO REPLACE FOR $3000 UNDER CODE 15S18, BUT FOR SOME REASON, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL THOUGH IT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL AND OTHER FORD FUSIONS OF THE SAME TIMEFRAME ARE COVERED. I LOST AND REGAINED CONTROL OF STEERING FOR SOME TIME UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT DOING ABOUT 49MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. CAUSING ME TO BE REAR ENDED. THE OTHER CAR LEFT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. STILL NO POWER STEERING FLUID FINE. EXACT ISSUES AS ALL THE OTHER 2012 RECALLED FORD FUSIONS BUT NOT MINE
BEFORE AND NOW I AM UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL AS WELL AS MY CAR.
DRIVING IN TOWN WHEN STEERING WENT OUT. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD WAS TOLD TO REPLACE STEERING UNIT. ALSO TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON FUSIONS BUT NOT ALL. ALSO TOLD THEY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 150,000 MILES. MINE HAS 170,000. THEY REFUSED ANY HELP. I AM THINKING THEY HAVE A PROBLEM THAT'S NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED
VEHICLE STEERING HAS BEEN ACTING UP FOR A FEW DAYS LIKE IT IS CATCHING AND PULLING IN THE DIRECTION I JUST SLIGHTLY VEER TO. 2 DAYS LATER, WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN HIGHWAY, 60MPH, SERVICE POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC DISPLAY ON DASH. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER GREEN FORD LOCATED AT 2211 W. PIONEER PKWY, PEORIA, IL 61615 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183,000.
STEERING FEELS LIKE IT'S REALLY LOSE AND GOES ALL OVER THE ROAD TIRES ARE BOUNCY WHILE DRIVING IT POPS BACK ALSO WHILE CHANGING GEARS
LOUD CREAKING OCCURS FROM STEERING COLUMN AT WARMER TEMPERATURES (OVER 50 DEGREES) WHEN DRIVING. STEERING BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT AS TEMPERATURE RISES AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. THERE IS SERIOUS CONCERN ABOUT IMMINENT FAILURE. NO CODES PULL, DEALERSHIP STATES NO ISSUE AFTER BRINGING IT IN TWICE, AND THAT MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE LARGER RECALL RELATED TO POWER STEERING FAILURE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A RECALL ALREADY LAUNCHED FOR SOME VINS; HOWEVER, ALL CARS FALLING WITHIN THIS MANUFACTURING PERIOD SHOULD BE RECALLED AND ISSUE ADDRESSED. AM CURRENTLY DEBATING HAVING POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED BY ANOTHER MECHANIC AS FORD SIMPLY DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE.

IT GET'S REALLY LOUD AT TEMPERATURES NEAR 80 DEGREES AND ABOVE. I AM CONCERNED IT WILL FAIL WHILE DRIVING. EXACT SAME ISSUE AS OTHERS. WHEN I TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD, IT WAS COLD AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG.
THERE IS A LOUD CREAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. IT DOES NOT OCCUR WHEN IT IS COOL/COLD OUTSIDE, BUT OCCURS AT TEMPERATURE 80+. IT GET'S REALLY LOUD AT TEMPERATURES NEAR 100 DEGREES AND ABOVE. I AM CONCERNED IT WILL FAIL WHILE DRIVING.
CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON ICE AND LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST . SOUNDS RELATED TO THE 15S18 CAMPAIN. DEALER CLAIMS NO RECALL. THIS IS A DEADLY OR LIFE THEATENING DEFECT AND SHOULD BE APPLIED TO ALL 2011-2013 FORD FUSIONS AND OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. LET'S NOT LOSE A LIFE TO A KNOWN DEFECT.
ABOUT LESS THAN A YEAR, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE MESSAGE READ POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT, AND THE WHEEL WOULD LOCK ELECTRONICALLY. SO I REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP. FAST FORWARD TO PRESENT DAY, SERVICE ADVANCED TRAC AND SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW IS ON THE DASHBOARD. NOW I'M LOOKING TO TOW MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT SEEMS AGAIN TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING.
THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE 4 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. IN EVERY CASE, IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THREE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE IN LOCAL TRAFFIC. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS, IT TAKES AN ENORMOUS EFFORT/STRENGTH TO MAKE A TURN, CHANGE LANES, OR PARK. TWO OF THE TIMES THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE CODES AND THE POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED. THE OTHER TWO TIMES REQUIRED EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. ONE (OCTOBER 2020) WAS FOR ALMOST $1700 AND REPLACED THE CONTROL RODS AND TIE RODS. THIS RESTORED THE POWER STEERING FOR TWO MONTHS, THEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN. RESETTING THE CODES WORKED FOR TWO DAYS, BUT THEN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. THE RACK AND PINION AND CONTROL BOARD WERE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY 2021 AT A COST OF JUST UNDER $2000. LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN UNDERWAY IS A KNOWN ISSUE...
MY VEHICLE HAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING ASSAULT FAULT. I WAS TURNED AWAY AT DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE I HAVE 160,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I JUST BOUGHT IT AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES TO FIX THIS ISSUE? IN THE RECALL LETTER IT DIDN'T SPECIFICALLY MENTION THAT THE NUMBER OF MILES COULD BE A DETERMINING FACTOR. I NOTICED THIS ISSUE WHEN IT WAS PARKED IT APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD

FORD HAS A RECALL FOR MY MAKE,MODEL AND YEAR BUT APPARENTLY MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THIS RECALL.

THE CONTACT CALLED PAUL MILLER FORD (975 E NEW CIRCLE RD, LEXINGTON, KY 40505) AND WAS INFORMED THAT VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE NEEDED AN OEM SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED HER THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.

THE CONTACT INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 15V340000(STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,500.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RACK QUIT WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, CHECKED VIN BUT NO RECALLS, FORD DID HAVE A LOT OF RECALLS FOR SAME MODEL, BUT NONE ISSUED FOR THIS CAR. DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR OTHER CARS OUT THERE WITHOUT A RECALL. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL ALL CARS WITH THAT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT!!!!

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2012 FORD FUSION AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND THE STEERING BECAME SO STIFF AND I COULD NOT MAKE THE TURN ONTO A STREET AND I NEARLY HIT THE VEHICLE COMING IN OTHER LANE ON THE STREET I WAS TRYING TO TURN ON.....THANK GOD I DIDNT CRASH I TO THE OTHER VEHICLE.... I RESEARCHED WHEN I GOT HOME AND THERE IS A RECALL ON TGE 2012 FUSION FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE ON THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE .....BUT FORD SAYS THE VIN NUMBER ON MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL !!!!! THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO EXCLUDE SO.E 2012 FUSIONS....IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE SOME ONE WILL BD KILLED! ....
POWER STEERING INTERMITTENLY FAILS WITH NO WARNING. SOMETIMES IT RESETS ITSELF BUT HAS NOT, NOW, FOR THE PAST WEEK.
CAR IS SLOW TO ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. LOSS OF POWER AND SPEED WHEN GOING UP HILL, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN PLACE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO VALENTI FORD (72 JERRY BROWNE RD, MYSTIC, CT 06355) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
