2010 FORD FUSION Steering Problems

Was driving down the road and lost my power steering, the power steer assist light is going off have absolutely no power steering from all my research this is a well known issue with this year ford fusion but nothing has been done about it. A recall needs to be done this is a major safety issue and could case accidents even fatalities

The power steering on the car suddenly failed and made it very difficult to steer, especially from a stop. While driving, the power steering goes out and gives a fault saying: "power steering assist fault." I go online to find out that there was a recall for the same vehicle but for the years 2011 and 2012, not the 2010. I also saw that many people are having this issue: either missed getting in an accident (like my situation) or worse.

I've had two issues with the power steering going out while driving, whic is very dangerous. The lug nuts also are fused on. I see recalls for these issues, although it says my vin# is not included. I hardly think I have the exact issues, but somehow they aren't related to these recalls. The date I am providing is the most recent. There was another over the summer

Turned car on to go run errands and warning went off in car about power steering assist failure. Lost power steering. This was reproduced at the car dealership, and I did have to drive my car without power steering to the dealership (which was difficult as I’ve always had power steering). They were also able to get the same warning at the dealership. As far as I know component and vehicle inspected at dealership but unknown about manufacture, etc. This was the first time I saw the warning, when the power steering went out.

Eps electronic power steering catches and grinds and I've seen recalls on 2010+ fusions and mine have all the same symptoms.

Sudden loss of power steering ability while driving.

Power steering system malfunction. My safety and passenger safety were at risk. The problem has not been confirmed by a Dealer or independent service center. No inspections. There were two others incidents when the power steering system did not engage. The warning light came on displaying "power steering assist fault" message. I read the owners manual and did as instructed. Basically, turn off the car and restart. The steering worked as usual. The recent incident was June 9, 2023. I was trying to back out of the driveway when the warning light came on and the steering wheel would not turn in either direction (left to right). I turned off the car, restarted it and tried to back out again. Warning light came on, again. No movement. I tried again. I couldn't steer as I put the shifter in drive to go forward and backwards. The car is inoperable.

The power steering on my 2010 Ford Fusion has failed intermittently. Ford has a power steering recall for Ford Fusions made after 2010. I believe they should also include earlier model years in the recall since it is a common issue. The car says “Power Steering Assist Fault” every time I turn it on and the power steering doesn’t work. If I try to drive it, it also says “Service Advancetrac”. If you google these errors, you will find many, many forums where people with 2010 Ford Fusions have this exact issue. The problem was intermittent at first and could be solved by turning off the car and starting it again. Now it cannot be solved no matter what we try. People online report replacing the entire steering rack, only for the problem to persist. Something is wrong here.

On March 10, 2023, the electrical power steering unit on this vehicle failed. The vehicle was returned to us on March 17, 2023. On March 27, 2023 the power steering again failed on this vehicle after 400 miles of driving. We received the vehicle several days later after the repair. On June 22, 2023, all the lights and warnings for the power steering unit came on again. This time it failed again after 1900 miles of driving. Luckily for us, the steering continued to function as long as the engine was not turned off. Three power steering failures in three months seems to point to a problem with this type steering unit. Had the steering stopped working while driving the vehicle, the chances of having an accident were almost certain. The first failure showed me the steering wheel cannot be turned no matter how much I tried.

The Power Steering Assist Fault would occasionally come on and reset itself if I turn the vehicle off then back on. Well, I was with my partner out and about and got in my vehicle, went to start and the message popped up. So I tried restarting the vehicle and it didn't work. I tried multiple times and to no prevail has it reset. Go figure it happened right after I paid the loan off. We had to wait for a tow truck to arrive have it towed home. I checked fuses and wiring and battery voltages when I got home and everything checked out normally. I contacted a Ford dealership and they said with the parts, labor, reprogram and alignment it could be up to around $2,500.00. I don't have this kind of money laying around. Now I don't have a vehicle to get back and forth to work....

"POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". While driving, the electronic power assist steering [EPAS] failed, causing a loss of vehicle control. The steering wheel suddenly became extremely hard to turn while I was driving.

I purchased this vehicle for my minor child to have a safe and reliable vehicle to transport herself to and from work. However, there has been a power steering issue with her car for the last year. One day she was driving and just could no longer turn the corner. There was no warning and the light came on only after she turned the car off and then back on. So She pulled to the shoulder and waited for tow. She was so scared as she was on one of the busiest streets in Columbus, OH. Please research these vehicles and make sure that they go through the necessary quality control process. My vehicle is available for inspection at any time as it has been to the shop many times to no avail. Every fix seems to be temporary and I've wasted thousands of dollars in parts, tows and repairs....

First incident the power steering just stopped working replaced tire rod drivers side outer tire rod left side seemed to take care of the issue until I got a fat tire on the right side and it’s out again changed the tire rod on that side and a new tire still no power steering

The passenger airbag has not been replaced but I have a work order from my local dealership claiming they completed the recall. And my power steering/advance trac and automatic breaking system are not working. My power steering locked up on me driving 70 mph going down the highway. 3 of my 4 interior door latches have come apart and broke causing us to have to roll the window down to get out of the vehicle. There are a couple more items that should be considered safety recalls that are not on my model and year, but are covered on other years before and after my year.

As I was driving the power steering failed. A warning message popped up saying to service Power steering and service Advantrax. The steering became a little stiff but I managed to drive it home. My husband went to start it after I got home and it can't be steered at all. This came with no warning or indications whatsoever. From what I have read it's a failure in the power steering system that causes it to need to be reset. I could have wrecked because of this. Please help.

My Fusion has been having the same issues as other Ford Fusions with the electrical power steering, traction control and the tpms system. They have been acting up for months and now the power steering does not work at all. I have talked to my local Ford dealer and the Ford 1800 number and they say since it does not fall within the VIN guidelines they are not responsible for it and they I will have to pay out of pocket for it and if it should ever be recalled for it they would then reimburse me my cost if I kept all of my reciepts. I feel like it should be under recall and Ford have to pay for it.

I recently had to replace my front tires due to them having a slow leak. Last night me and my daughter were driving down the interstate towards town, when I almost completely lost steering. Thankfully we was only going 40mph instead of 70mph due to exiting the interstate. Had we of been running 70mph and switching lanes we could of crashed into one of the semi's driving close to us.

I was driving on a heavy highway when my power steering stopped working sending me all over the highway. Luckily I was able to pull over without getting hit. We took the car to ace Ford in Woodbury NJ just so they could look at it and was told the whole power steering rack and pinion had to be replaced. I have 112,000 miles. I know the Ford company recalled all 2011 Ford fusions for the same problem. They want me to pay over $2000 I don't have. I didn't have any warning lights until the steering went out. While driving our 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, several warning appeared on the instrument panel. " service power steering" came on in red, "service advancetrac" was orange. The vehicle still had power steering at this point. After arriving home and turning off the engine, I restarted the engine to see if the lights might reset. At this point , the one warning changed to "service power steering NOW". At this point, there was no power assist with the steering. I know there is a recall, #15V340000, for 2011 - 2013 Fusion steering fails. Why was the 2010 model not included, as I have found many complaints online of steering failures on this model year car.

I have contacted the Ford dealership in my area over a year ago and still have not been serviced on the air bag recall. Also, the power steering system is faulty. I am getting no assistance in repairing from the location the vehicle was purchased from. Power steering message appeared on my dash while driving. This is the second vehicle I have gotten from the dealer with a power steering issue.

Leaving driveway forward steering got difficult then I was unable to turn the wheel. Thankfully I was not coming home from college on the interstate going 70 when the steering failed. Ford has been using this part since 2008 but recalls are only on 2011 & 2012. Why? I could have been killed. Mechanic says car needs replacement of electronic power steering assist system.
