NHTSA Complaint #11514135 — 2010 FORD FUSION

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering became inoperable. The steering wheel failed to move. The power steering failure and “Service Now” message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. While driving for approximately 20-miles, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic again but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
