Engine failure at 90,000 miles Services all done at ford dealership yet the engine still didn’t work somehow. Wheel bearing at 100,000 failing causing rattling of wheels
I was driving on [XXX]. In brookefield ohio on [XXX] at approximately [XXX] headed into work. I was driving 60MPH to 65MPH and my 2016 ford f150 went from 6th gear to 1st gear and which locked my rear wheels. I was wearing a seat belt at the time. The date of filling this complaint is 03/24/2025 and has not happened since. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
During the scheduled oil change service on 8/15/2024, I was informed that wheel lug nuts were swollen and tire rotation and inspection were not completed, even though I paid for a maintenance package. I replaced the lug nut two years ago for the same issue, and this will be my 3rd time replacing lug nuts on the vehicle.
I had my vehicle in for a state inspection at a Ford dealership. They told me they could not remove the rear wheels because the lug nuts were swollen. In order to remove the rear wheels the lug nuts will be destroyed. What happens if I get a flat tire? How will I get the tire off? I have to get a new set of lug nuts and have them available if I ever want to get the rear wheels off. This is nuts (excuse the pun)! Ford should replace these lug nuts not me.
Swollen lug nuts.
OEM lug nuts swelled according to Pinnacle Ford resulting in extraordinary measures and costs to remove them. The lug nuts are available for inspection.
The lug nuts on all four wheels needed to be replaced because of swelling. This was determined by Evergreen Ford when I brought the truck in for oil change and tire rotation, etc. If this was not found it could have been a huge safety risk for the occupants in the truck and for others. A wheel very likely could have come off causing sever injury or death. If Evergreen Ford did not notice the problem I could heave been driving with faulty lug nuts. I did replace all the lug nuts at the Ford dealership. I am very surprised that Ford Motor Company did not issue a recall on this hazardous condition sooner, that knowing very well for several years, that this issue existed. I spent $82.32 + tax that Ford should have taken care of thru a recall. Most importantly I hope that no one gets injured or...
Dealer says multiple lug nuts are swollen and need replaced for safety’s sake.
This is in regard to problems with the lug nuts on my 2016 Ford F150. The truck has approx 31,000 miles. I can no longer use the lug wrench provided by the manufacturer (Ford) because the lug nuts are "swollen", according to the dealership. The dealership refused to rotate my tires because of this issue. They advised Ford would not warranty replacement of the lug nuts. They admitted the lug nuts were "defective". This is definitely a safety issue and should be repaired at no cost by Ford. Please issue a recall on these lug nuts.
Having my tires serviced at Ford dealer and they indicated I have swollen lug nuts so they can't rotate the tires right now. I asked about repairing the problem and the service tech recommended I buy parts from an auto parts store because the OEM parts will still be a problem because the OEM parts are defective.
Lug nut were swollen so they couldn’t be taken off without cutting. Ford technician stated it is a know issue that Ford knows about. Aluminum caps over steel bolts. According to the tech at the dealership, they could also break while driving due to the swelling.
I went for service to the Goodyear dealer where I bought my tires for an oil change and tire rotation. They were able to do the oil change, but unable to rotate the tires due to what is, apparently, a very common issue. The manager apologetically told me I had swollen lug nuts, that it was caused by the use of aluminum clad steel nuts, and even if they got the lug nuts off, it was quite possible they wouldn't be able to put them back on safely. He said they didn't have any replacement lug nuts and suggested I buy solid steel (chrome plated) aftermarket Dorman lug nuts (costing upwards of $5 to $7 each), offering to install them for free when I brought the truck back for tire rotation. He also indicated that it was a safety hazard, because if I had a flat tire, it was quite...
Lead Frame failure. Electrical component attached to valve body on transmision. On multiple occassions my truck would downshift from 6th gear to 2nd gear. The first time I was traveling at 55mph with an engine rpm of 1500/1600s, on flat ground with no load and not attempting to speed up or slow down. This caused the engine to rev up to 4500 rpm causing me too very sudden and violent jerk forward. After a few seconds normal driving resumed. I contacted my local dealership for service and over the next couple of days had a wrech symbol pop up twice and that said SEE MANUAL. Nothing in my owners manual helped me solve that. And the truck would only accelerate very slowly until you got up to around 35mph then normal driving resumed. . On the next occassion a few days later, while driving to the dealership for service regarding...
Factory installed Lugnuts cannot be removed for tire rotation during a scheduled oil change service at Preston Ford in Aberdeen Maryland reason given is that the Lugnuts had swollen and a lug wrench could not fit over them had to buy all new Lugnuts. I feel Ford should be aware of this because it is a safety concern if you have a flat tire and try to loosen the lug nuts, the lug nut wrench Will not fit over the lug nut posing a possible dangerous situation, especially if you’re in a remote location service Was performed on 26 January 2023 Lugnuts installed February 1, 2023 at Preston Ford Aberdeen Maryland. I do have a Ford issued case number [XXX]. I am asking Ford to recall these Lugnuts, and credit me for the price of a standard set of Lugnuts and labor required to install them. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO...
Lug nuts were swolen and auto shop recommended replacement by a certified mechanic. We were told by a certified mechanic swolen lug nuts can snap off putting pressure on the other lug nuts. Worst case is all the lug nuts snap and you lose a tire while driving. The other scenario is the lug nuts are so swolen, they would not be removable during repairs of a flat tire on the road. Both scenarios are a safety issue.
Lug nuts have swollen. Auto repair cannot remove wheels due to swollen lug nuts. Can't remove wheels to rotate tires.
Lug nuts have swollen and were required to be broken off and replaced at the dealership. The cost fell to the customer.
lug nuts swell and could not fit wrench on lug nuts to remove tire for a roadside emergency
Lug nuts swelled to the point they had to be replaced
Re: [XXX]. On 10/11/21, I brought my 2016,Ford, F-150 into Hollingsworth Richardson, Baton Rouge, LA for an oil change, and tire rotation. I was informed by the Intake Clerk that the technician could not rotate the tires because he could not remove the lug nuts. Later, I discovered that from. About 2010 to 2015, Ford Manufacturing used composite materials over the lug nuts that would swell, thus rendering the lug nuts immovable. I contacted Ford Manufacturing, and made a complaint. They were to respond within 24 hours. Two days later, after not receiving a response, I contacted Ford via chat, and was told that my case had been summarily closed. This potentially dangerous defect required me to purchase 24 replacement lug nuts at a cost of $73.00, then take my vehicle to a local mechanic, who used a compression air wrench to remove the defected lug nuts, and replace them...
Mushroomed Lug Nuts needs replacements04
Chrome lugnuts swell and become damaged if removed
Most lug nuts were stripped and the shop had a difficult time removing them. I had to replace all with solid lug nuts to ensure I had no other issues. This was an additional cost of $239.28.
THE LUG NUTS ARE IN TWO PARTS AND THE DIFFERENT PARTS TEND TO SEPARATE FROM EACH OTHER, NOT ALLOWING YOU TO REMOVE THE LUG NUTS TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE. I WAS CHANGING THE BRAKES ON THE TRUCK SO I WAS STATIONARY BUT COULD NOT REMOVE THE TIRE DUE THE LUG NUT.
DIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WHEN FLAT. I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE LUG NUT WITH THE SUPPLIED LUG WRENCH. THE 2-PART LUGS HAD SWELLED MAKING THE LUG WRENCH UNUSABLE. WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE LUGS WITH A PERSONAL TOOL SET IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. WENT TO A FORD DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO CHANGE MY LUG NUTS TO A SOLID AFTERMARKET LUG. DEALER SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT CAN LEAVE PEOPLE STRANDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE THE COVER ON THE LUG NUT EXPANDED AND THE FACTORY SUPPLIED WRENCH SOCKET WOULD NOT FIT OVER THE LUG NUT. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE TIRE DUE TO THE FAILURE LEAVING THE CONTACT STRANDED WITH A FLAT TIRE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED DUE MOISTURE INSIDE THE LUG NUT COVER. THE LOCAL DEALER FRONT ROYAL FORD LOCATED AT (1935 WINCHESTER RD, FRONT ROYAL VA) AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
LUCKILY I WAS NOT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT HAVING WORKED FOR FORD THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HAS NOW HAPPENED TO BOTH OF MY FORD TRUCKS. FORD MAKES LUG NUTS WITH ALUMINUM CASINGS THAT AFTER 1-5 USES BECOME SWOLLEN AND MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE LUG NUTS FROM VEHICLE ESPECIALLY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN SOMEONE TAKING MORE TIME THAN NEEDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD STRUGGLING TO BREAK SAID LUG NUTS LOOSE AND WILL RESULT IN SOMEONE BEING STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE.. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR 10 + YEARS. I HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS REPLACING THESE LUG NUTS. MULTIPLE OF WHICH HAD TO BE CUT OFF BY MECHANICS. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!
THE LUG NUTS ON MY TRUCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SWELLING OF THE METALS. SO IF YOU NEEDED TO CHANGE YOUR TIRE YOU LUG WRENCH WOULD NOT FIT AND WOULD LEAVE YOU STRANDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LUG NUTS COULD NOT BE REMOVED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LUG NUTS WERE REPLACED IN AUGUST OF 2019. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,020.*JB
LUG NUTS SWELLED AND COULD NOT USE FACTORY PROVIDED WRENCH TO REMOVE THEM AFTER HAVING A FLAT. LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY FOR AN EXTENDED TIME PERIOD
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE STEEL WHEEL FRACTURED AND SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING ON A BLACK TOP ROADWAY. THE PART THAT SEPARATED AND CAME OFF WAS LOCATED. THERE APPEARED TO BE NO DAMAGE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE FRACTURE. THIS IS A LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE.
TOOK TRUCK FOR REGULAR SERVICE AND ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT ROTATE TIRES. LUG NUTS ARE OF A FLAWED DESIGN THAT SWELL DUE TO HEAT, MOISTURE ETC. DEALER MENTIONED THAT I SHOULD BUY REPLACEMENTS FROM AN AUTO STORE AS FORD IS STILL SELLING THE SAME DEFECTIVE LUG NUTS. ISSUE IS SO COMMON THAT SERVICE DEPT SAID FORD ACTUALLY ENGINEERED AND SENT A SPECIALIZED TOOL TO DEALERS TO REMOVE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS. ADVISED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A FLAT TIRE, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE DUE TO LUG NUTS SWELLING AND TOOL NOT FITTING. NOT ONLY ARE CUSTOMERS ON THE HOOK FOR $200+, BUT ALSO POSSIBLE TOWING FEES FOR A NON-MECHANICAL, ROUTINE ISSUE.
AN UNSAFE, ROAD HAZARD, A BOOBY TRAP F150 TRUCK. THIS IS WHAT I GOT FROM A FORD DEALER IN COVINGTON. AN UNSAFE TRUCK.WHOSE FAULT THAT THE TRUCK IS ON THE ROADS? WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT. FORD COMP. OR THE DEALER? WE ARE AN OLDER, SENIORS, MINORITY COUPLE JUST TRYING TO BUY OUR FIRST F150 TRUCK. ON DEC. 31ST 2018, BOUGHT A 2016 F150 FORD TRUCK FROM THIS DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS TRUCK IS COVERED BY A SPECIAL FORD COMP. TAKE BACK THE TRUCK. I HAVE HIS MESSAGE ON MY VOICE MAIL. THEY WILL TRY TO FIX IT FULL WARRANTY BEING A BUY BACK TRUCK,INCLUDING EVEN THE LIGHT BULBS, ON TOP OF THE REGULAR WARRANTY. . SAID THAT VIBRATION CAME FROM THE WHEELS NO, CALLED THEM AGAIN, SENT THEM FEW EMAILS. I TOLD THEM THAT I WILL GO ON A HUNGER STRIKE IN FRONT OF THEIR DEALER. FINALLY,...
FAILURE OF INTEGRATED WHEEL ENDS (IWE) ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS DUE TO SEAL FAILURES AND LOSS OF VACUUM. SYMPTOMS: GRINDING OR GROANING AT LOW SPEEDS WITH OR WITHOUT BRAKES APPLIED. VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL. DEALERSHIPS WILL INITIALLY DENY PROBLEM AND BLMAE THE BRAKES (I.E. DRAGGING CALIPER). MY TRUCK WAS INSPECTED BY 3 SHOPS TO RULE OUT THE BRAKES AND I STILL RECEIVED A SIMILAR COMMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP. 1/30/19: DEALERSHIP FINALLY CONFIRMED ISSUE AND REPLACED BOTH IWES AT 35090 MILES. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH FORD FOR MANY YEARS BASED UPON THE VAST NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON TRUCK FORUMS. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF IWE FAILURES. THE PROBLEM IS SO FREQUENT THAT THE FIRST RECOMMENDATION FROM MOST DEALERSHIPS IS TO REPLACE THE VACUUM SOLENOID OR INLINE CHECK VALVE. IN MY CASE, THE REPLACEMNT PARTS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM
LUG NUTS SWELL MAKING IT UNABLE TO REPAIR ON ROAD.
LUG NUTS EXPANDING. LUG NUT OEM WRENCH SIZE IS 21MM. LUG NUTS HAVE EXPANDED TO 22MM AND A LITTLE BEYOND. I UNDERSTAND OEM LUG NUTS ARE A TWO PIECE DESIGN. I HAVE SOME LUG NUTS THAT ARE "FREE SPINNING." MEANING ONE OF THE PIECES IS LOOSE FROM THE OTHER AND JUST SPINS WITHOUT THE ENTIRE LUG NUT COMING OFF THE BOLT. I HAVE HAD ONE LUG NUT COME OFF OF TIRE. UP UNTIL TODAY THE FACTORY AND FORD DEALERSHIP ARE THE ONLY PERSONAL TO TOUCH MY WHEELS. THE DEALER COMMENDED I PURCHASE AFTER MARKET LUG NUTS TO SOLVE PROBLEM, WHICH THEY ARE DOING ALSO. AS OF TODAY MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 44K MILES ON IT. EARLIER THIS YEAR THE DEALER STATED I KEEP AN EYE ON THE LUG NUTS BECAUSE THEY WERE SHOWING SIGN OF EXPANDING
MY PURCHASED MY NEW TRUCK IN MARCH 2016, OWNED IT FOR 22 MONTHS AND IT CURRENTLY HAS 22.235 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD OR EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT. WHILE GETTING MY TIRES ROTATED AT DISCOUNT TIRE ON JANUARY 20, 2018, THE MANAGER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE LUGS NUTS COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO "SWELLING" OF THE LUG NUT OUTER COVER. THE OEM DESIGN IS A STEEL CORE NUT WITH A PRESSED CHROME OR ALUMINUM CAP OVER IT. THE LUG NUTS SWELL OVER TIME AS WATER AND CORROSION DEVELOP BETWEEN THE LUG NUT AND COVER. DISCOUNT TIRE HAD TO USE MULTIPLE SIZE SOCKETS TO REMOVE AND REINSTALL THE LUG NUTS DUE TO NON-UNIFORM SWELLING OF COVERS ON THE LUG NUTS. THE FOLLOWING DAY I STOPPED AT COSTCO TO CHECK LUG NUT TORQUE AND THE TECHNICIAN MADE THE SAME COMMENT ABOUT SWELLING AND SEEING A...
I PURCHASED THIS 2016 FORD F150 TO TOW MY TRAILER. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE FORD MAX TOW PACKAGE. THIS TRUCK WILL NOT SAFELY TOW MY TRAILER. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE HANKOOK TIRES. THE TIRES CAUSE THE TRUCK TO "HUNT" AND SWERVE WHILE DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROAD. THE TIRES ARE SEEKING THE GROOVES IN THE ROAD AND MAKE THE TRUCK DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. WHEN THE TRAILER IS CONNECTED TO THE TRUCK, THE PROBLEM BECOMES SO SEVERE THAT THE TRUCK CANNOT BE SAFELY OPERATED. WHEN DRIVING THE TRUCK IN NO WIND, THE TRUCK SWERVES AS IF THE WIND IS GUSTING FROM THE SIDE. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS TRUCK WITH THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AND THE SHOP FOREMAN AND THEY BOTH AGREE THAT THE TRUCK HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRES., FORD REFUSES TO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER.
