2014 DODGE JOURNEY Engine Problems

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a persistent engine misfire in my 2014 Dodge Journey AWD, which I believe may pose a safety risk to my family, myself, other drivers, and is not explained by regular maintenance and care. Since I first purchased the vehicle, I have performed all necessary maintenance and adhered to the recommended service intervals. However, despite these precautions, the engine has experienced consistent misfires. The misfires are particularly noticeable when I attempt to accelerate, whether when speeding up or turning. This issue has caused a noticeable hesitation in power delivery, which has created dangerous situations while merging onto highways or trying to maintain speed during turns. I have taken the vehicle to multiple certified mechanics and dealerships, but they have been unable to provide a clear cause for the engine misfires. My complaint is I just had an oil change which I have done every 3000 miles since I own this car. I took car in December 9th for an oil change and after, the car started leaking oil all over. I took it back to Richlonn's Service which indicated that the cooler/oil filter housing was cracked, it cost me $1,382.93 to repair. The cooler/filter housing is located above exhaust manifold which had to be removed to replace, I think this is a fire hazard, not only that, I found out, Chrysler has had problems with these plastic housings, over the years Did they withhold information from the NHTSA.? Vehicle just won’t start sometimes. Changed battery , alternator, starter, ETC system. And nothing has helped. No rhyme or reason some days it starts perfectly fine multiple times .. other days I’ll go out and it just won’t start. I can go to my destination turn it off and it won’t turn back on.

I bought this car used but it only had 26340 on it and now it is almost to 30000. When driving it sounds as though the motor is knocking, but the oil is fine when checked on. It seems to have difficulty changing gears, sometimes way to fast and it whines other times it struggles to shift gears. Rpms are not steady they are bouncing around high love. When it does get to speed it feels as though the brakes are being appflied. Tipm caused several issues, blown motor, and now is in the dealership shop for an alternator, battery, ground strap and other wiring issues. I haven’t had my car for over a year due to this.

Last year on or about June 17, my transmission gave out completely on me while driving up hill on a 2way road. My vehicle is available for inspection, but the transmission has already been replaced with a used transmission. This event put my life and others at risk because my car completely stopped working on an incline with no indication it was going to give out. My father was actually imjured in his attempt to help me stop the car from rolling backwards. The day it happened I took my car to be assessed at our local Dodge dealership, and had it repaired by an independent contractor. As mentioned before there were no warning signs that it was going to fail. No signs of overheating and/or weird noises.

Unknown car just stopped working and turned off

After getting oil changed/air filter replaced and 4 new tires, vehicle has stalled out every day since while running (less than week) it is now stalling out while driving!! Happened while I was driving on the highway. EXTREMELY dangerous. Car usually will restart. But 95% of the time it continuously sounds like it’s trying to turn over until I push the ignition button to turn off. I am currently stuck on the side of the road for about a half hour because it won’t start back up. I have had this car less than a year!

Just before my warranty was up I got a check engine light and the car started running really rough almost like it was gonna die when I came to a stop. WHILE DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE, 36 MILES, THE DODGE STARTS TO OVERHEAT. IT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND NO DIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN MADE. UPON STARTING THE CAR, IT SHAKES AND AFTER A MINUTE IT SUBSIDES WITHIN MINUTES OF STARTING THE OIL TEMP JUMPS TO 231 DEGREES OR HIGHER. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE HEAT ON HIGH IN ORDER TO BRING THE TEMPERATURE DOWN AND EVEN WITH IT ON THE LOWEST TEMP IS STILL 226 AFTER 10/15 MINUTES. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE JULY 2020.

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE STEERING WILL LOCK UP, LOSE POWER AND LOSE BRAKES. HAVE TO FORCE TO TURN AND USE EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. NOT THE FIRST TIME IT'S NOW HAS HAPPEN A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER BEGAN MAKING A POPPING NOISE AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. THEN ON JULY 14 2020 WAS DRIVING TO THE DENTIST WHEN I NOTICED A RATTLING SOUND IN THE AREA WHERE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WOULD BE.

THERE IS A U67 BY FCA RECALL ON MY 2014 DODGE JOURNEY WHICH I WAS NOT NOTIFIED BY THE DEALER! I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL AFTER PAYING TO HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED MYSEL! HOWEVER MY CAR DECIDED TO GO INTO A LIMP MODE WHICH IT HAS DONE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2013 BUT THIS TIME IT IS STAYING IN LIMP MODE SO I RESEARCHED RECALLS, THERE IS ALSO T47 AND U49 WHEN I TOWED MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THEY INFORMED ME THE CONVERTER I HAD PUT ON DOES NOT MEET STANDARDS AND THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE IT AGAIN AND ALSO DO THE OTHER TWO RECALLS AS WELL AND THEN THEY INFORMED ME THEY COULD NOT DO THE U49 OR U67 BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL ENGINE! THEY TOLD ME AND GAVE ME DOCUMENTATION THAT THE ONLY RECALL DONE WAS T47 HOWEVER...

THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER BECAME INOPERABLE BUT INDEPENDENTLY RESET AND WORKED AS DESIGNED. THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHERE THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED BAXTER CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LA VISTA LOCATED AT (7010 S 124TH CIR, LA VISTA, NE 68128 (402) 800-1229) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE RADIO WILL RANDOMLY TURN STATIONS AND JUST COMPLETELY GO BLACK. THE A/C TURNS ITSELF ON AND OFF. THE AIRBAG LIGHTS KEEP RANDOMLY COMING UP AND THEN GO AWAY.THIS ALL HAPPENS RATHER I'M DRIVING FAST, SLOW, OR STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND HAS HAPPENED SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR A YEAR AGO. I'M ALSO HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON WITH IT BEING THE P0420. I ONLY USE MID GRADE GAS AND ONLY FROM EXXON OR CHEVRON. I ALSO MAKE SURE THE GAS CAP IS ON TIGHTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL BE ON ONE DAY AND NOT THE NEXT.

I HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC CHANGE 1 OF MY CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT AUTOZONE RECOMMENDED. THAT DIDN'T SOLVE ANYTHING. THEN I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT DODGE OF BLOOMINGTON, MN TO HAVE A LUGNUT REPAIRED AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FURTHER DIAGNOSED. THEY REPLACED THE LUGNUT BUT TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME LEFT IN THE DAY TO LOOK...

IN THE PAST TWO YEARS I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE A/C TURNS ON ALL ON ITS OWN. THE RADIO CHANGES CHANNELS ON ITS OWN BUT MOST IMPORTANT THIS MORNING 23 OCT 2019 MY 2014 DODGE JOURNEY COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY.

OUR 2014 DODGE JOURNEY'S ENGINE IS CONSUMING OIL WITH NO WARNING. WITH NO WARNING LIGHT/ALARM OR PUDDLES OF OIL ON THE GROUND, I HAD TO ADD OVER 3 QUARTS OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. DUE TO THIS, THE ENGINE HAS FAILED BEYOND REPAIR. THIS WAS PRESENTED IN THE MANNER OF HARSH CLANKING AND BANGING WITHIN THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP, IT WAS FOUND THAT METAL SHARDS WERE CONTAINED WITHIN THE OIL FILTER. THE VEHICLE NOW DOESN'T RUN CORRECTLY EVEN WHEN NOT IN MOTION.

I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE IN 2017. BEFORE A YEAR OF OWNING IT I GOT INTO A WRECK BECAUSE MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULDNT TURN OFF AND INSTEAD STARTED ACCELERATING MORE. THEN I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO WAY. SHORTLY AFTER THE REST OF MY SYSTEMS STARTED TO GO ALONG WITH IT NOW IT'S BEEN ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT CAN NO LONGER MOVE OR SO ANYTHING. ONCE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT IT STARTED CLOGGING THE REST OF MY SYSTEM. AS OF SEPTEMBER 2019 MY ENGINE IS NOW COMPLETELY GONE BECAUSE OF ALL THE BACK UP NOT BEING PROCESSED BY MY CATCON

CAR SHUTS OFF AT SPEED HAS LIGHT ON ON DASH NOT SURE WHAT IT IS

I PROCEEDED BECAUSE I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND NEEDED TO MOVE. ACCELERATION WAS LIMITED BUT I MADE IT HOME WHICH WAS LESS THAN A MILE. WHEN STOPPED THERE WAS SMOKE ROLLING OUT FROM UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AREA AND THERE WAS FLUIDS RUNNING ALL OVER THE GROUND. ON APPROXIMATELY 6-8 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IN THE LAST 3 YEARS, MY 2014 DODGE JOURNEY HAS SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING IT. THE FIRST 3 TIMES I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT & AFTER THE 3RD TIME, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR BUT IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN. THERE SEEMED TO BE NOTHING TO NOTE WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN, UNTIL RECENTLY, IT SHUT OFF ON 2 OCCASIONS WHEN I WENT OVER A BUMP & GOING IN A FORWARD MOTION IN BOTH CASES. THE FIRST TIME I WAS GOING 55MPH, THE 2ND 25MPH SO NOT SURE THE SPEED HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. BROUGHT IT BACK TO DEALER & THEY DID AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE UPDATE. THIS WAS ONE WEEK AGO AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. I WAS AGAIN IN A FORWARD MOTION, ACTUALLY JUST STARTED ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, SO WAS PROBABLY NOT GOING MORE THAN 35-40MPH WHEN...

I WENT INTO MY CHURCH FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED THE CAR TO LET IT COOL DOWN FOR MY KIDS. AS IT SAT IDLING ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, MY ETC LIGHT IS FLASHING, AND MY ESC OFF LIGHT IS ON. SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. STARTED DRIVING AND THE ETC LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND ESC OFF LIGHT CAME ON. MY CAR SLOWED DOWN FROM 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND I COULDN'T SPEED BACK UP. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN CAR OFF AND BACK ON 3 TIMES TO MAKE IT BACK HOME. TO MAKE IT HOME I HAD TO PUT CRUISE CONTROL ON AND HOPE I DIDN'T GET BEHIND SOMEONE GOING SLOWER THAN ME BECAUSE ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON.

SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE, BOUGHT BRAND NEW, EVERY SO OFTEN WHILE DRIVING THE RADIO AND ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF AND THEN COME BACK ON. RECENTLY WHEN DRIVING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THAT POINT IT WAS A FRIDAY NIGHT MY MECHANIC WAS ALREADY CLOSED SO WHEN HE OPENED BACK UP ON TUESDAY I CALLED TO BRING THE CAR IN AND ON MY WAY THERE THE CAR STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD I FELT THE ACCELERATION GIVE AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO ACCELERATE SO I STARTED TO MAKE WAY OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ENGINE JUST DIED. HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHERE HE CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY IT DIED. THERE WAS NO WATER, ALL THE FLUID LEVELS WERE PERFECT. HE WAS BAFFLED AS TO HOW THE ENGINE COULD JUST DIE. HE SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN THIS...

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COURTESY CHRYSLER DODGE RAM OF SUPERSTITION SPRINGS (6130 E AUTO PARK DR, MESA, AZ 85206, (480) 569-2986) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.

I'VE HAD MY THROTTLE BODY FAIL TWICE IN 8 MONTHS. BOTH WHILE DRIVING, IT CAUSES THE CAR TO NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE. ALMOST WAS IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT.

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. ALSO THE OIL FILTER MANIFOLD CRACKED AND LEAKED OIL. HAD TO GET IT REPLACED.

LIKE OTHERS ON THIS SITE, I EXPERIENCED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATING A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 3. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT CHAMPION DODGE IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN. THE SHOP STATED THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE CYLINDER HEAD DUE TO A LEAKING VALVE. UPON RETRIEVING THE REPAIRED VEHICLE, THE SAME ISSUE IMMEDIATELY AROSE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SHOP AND THE SHOP IS NOW SURMISING THEY RECEIVED A DEFECTIVE PART. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN A DAY DUE TO A DEFECTIVE REPLACEMENT PART. EITHER THE SHOP DID NOT REPLACE THE PART, OR CHRYSLER HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THEIR CYLINDER HEADS. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE COMMON, WAS RECOGNIZED BY CHRYSLER ON THE 2011-2013 MODELS, BUT IS NOW AN ISSUE WITH MY 2014 MODEL. ENGINE LIGHT ON: THE ISSUE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEAD AND CYLINDERS OF THE 2014 V6 ENGINE OF THE DODGE JOURNEY 2014. THE FLAW ALLOWS BURNING FUEL VAPOR TO ESCAPE AND CAUSE BURNING AND CARBON AROUND THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE HAZARD HERE IS THE CONTINUED DISINTEGRATION AND CARBON DAMAGE CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING.

APPEARS THAT THE GASKET BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING OIL. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. I STILL OWE ALOT OF MONEY ON THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE CHANGED THE OIL ON A REGULAR BASIS. NOW THIS !!!! NOT RIGHT !!!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE BEING OPERATED AT A LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE COVER CAUGHT ON FIRE AND TOTALED OUT THE VEHICLE IT BURNT THE ENGINE ALL THE WIRING THE HOOD AND FRONT AXLES

THESE CARS HAVE MASSIVE OIL LEAKS FROM BAD SEALS ON THE OIL COOLER AND FILTER HOUSING ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN CAUSE YOUR ENGINE FAILURE OR A FIRE.

VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND SUDDENLY JUST SHUTS OFF WITHOUT POWER TO ANY OF THE HAZARD LIGHTS. IT CAN GET A LOT OF PEOPLE KILLED WITH SUCH A SAFETY GLITCH. DOES IT, THEN TURNS BACK ON MAYBE AFTER 10 TO 40 MINS OF BEING OFF.

I OWN A 2014 DODGE JOURNEY WITH ABOUT 51K MILES ON IT. SINCE YESTERDAY, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUTTING OFF AND STALLING WHILE I AM DRIVING. THE RADIO WILL FLICKER ON AND OFF AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL SHOW ALL WARNING LIGHTS IN A FLASHING MANNER, AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF THAT, THE CAR WILL COMPLETELY TURN OFF WHILE STILL IN DRIVE. ON OCTOBER 3RD, I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF MID TURN. THE BRAKES BECAME STIFF, LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE WHEEL AND ALSO LOST FUNCTIONALITY TO MY HAZARDS. THIS MORNING, I WAS DRIVING THIS SAME VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DODGE/CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THE CAR ONCE AGAIN SHUT OFF ON ME. THIS TIME I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. AGAIN, I LOST THE ABILITY TO EVEN USE...

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR KIDS AROUND TOWN AND THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AS THEY WERE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY OTHER INDICATORS WERE TRIGGERED. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO STILL BE RUNNING AND SHE COULD NOT SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IMMEDIATELY. SHE EVENTUALLY LOST POWER STEERING AS WELL. AFTER A FEW MINUTES SHE WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE BACK UP AGAIN AND IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY AS EXPECTED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. WE WERE EXPECTING SOME SORT OF LIGHT TO COME ON SO WE COULD GET A TROUBLESHOOTING CODE BUT NOTHING. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND WAS ALARMED TO FIND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE SOMEWHAT COMMON AND THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2011 FOR 2010 DODGE JOURNEY MODELS THAT WERE STALLING OUT. I HAVE NOT SEEN EVIDENCE OF A RECALL FOR LATER MODELS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD...

VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING IT. CAR STARTS BACK UP AND RUNNING FINES. IT HAS SHUT OFF GOING THROUGH AND INTERSECTION. LUCKY NO TRAFFIC WAS COMING FROM ANY DIRECTION. CAR WILL START BACK UP EVERY TIME. HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND ISSUE.
