2004 DODGE DURANGO 4X4 W/5.7 HEMI ENGINE. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE: ALL SERVICE PERFORMED AS PER MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS AT AN AUTHORIZED DODGE DEALER. TURNED THE IGNITION TO START THE TRUCK AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. AFTERWARD, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND THE VEHICLE MADE A TICKING SOUND. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALER THINKING IT MAY BE A FAILED BATTERY. AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY (THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO SUSPECTED A BATTERY) THE CAR FAILED TO HOLD A CHARGE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION ON THE RACK THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED A SIGNIFICANT HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND A SIGNIFICANT CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGINE INTERFACE. THE MECHANIC DEDUCED THAT AS AN ENGINE COMPONENT BLEW, THE FORCE OF WHICH SHORTED THE BATTERY, THE STARTER AND CRACKED THE TRANSMISSION INTERFACE. AFTER REMOVING THE BATTERY, THE TERMINAL TO THE NEGATIVE GROUND WAS DISLODGED, THE BATTERY WAS BULGING AT THE SIDES, AND THE...
2004 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 STALLING AT LOW SPEEDS AT INTERSECTIONS. STARTS UP RIGHT AWAY BUT CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC COMING. HAPPENED 1 TIME ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2007. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IT STALLS. I AM ABLE TO RESTART IT BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO TELL WHEN IT HAS STALLED, BECAUSE ALL ELECTRICAL THINGS STILL WORK RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC. STEERING WHEEL DOES LOCK THOUGH AND IT TAKES ALMOST A MINUTE TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL AND START IT AGAIN. ALSO WHILE DRIVING AS YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL IT ACTS AS THOUGH IT IS GOING TO DIE AND THEN LUNGES FORWARD. I HAVE NOT YET CORRECTED EITHER OF THESE ISSUES. *TR
WHILE SLOWING DOWN, OR AT STOP LIGHT, OR STARTING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE CUTS OUT WITH OUT WARNING. USUALLY WHILE TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, IT HAPPENS A FEW TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM. DODGE HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AND PROBABLY WONT UNTIL SOME ONE DIES. THIS MORNING WHILE TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, MY TRUCK CUT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A RIGHT HAND TURN. IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO STEER AWAY FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE WAITING TO TURN. AFTER I COASTED WITHIN 6 INCHES OF THE OTHER VEHICLE I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED. IT STARTED FINE. I HAD MY 2 KIDS IN THE TRUCK AND WE CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING IN AN ACCIDENT THIS MORNING. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. I STARTED SEARCHING THE INTERNET THIS MORNING AND AM SHOCKED BY WHAT I FOUND. THE ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPLACEMENTS WERE CONSIDERED AS GOOD WILL REPAIRS. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THEM TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER IN THE STATE. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO RECORD OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IA 86,384. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THERE WERE OTHER COMPONENTS THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE INCLUDING THE BATTERY. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I HAD EXPERIENCED MY CAR OVERHEATING IN THE WINTER WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE (DODGE DURANGO) TO MY LOCAL DEALER, HE STATED HE WILL RUN A DIAGNOSTICS REPORT, 3 DAYS LATER HE CALLED ME TO SAY THE VEHICLE IF FINE, HOWEVER HE NOTICED THE FAN RAN SLOW THEREFORE HE DECIDED TO REPLACE THE FAN CLUTCH AND A BELT ALSO REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT, I PAID HIM 600.00 DOLLARS AND WITHIN 3 DAYS IT'S OVERHEATED AGAIN AND I HAD TO RETURN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. HE STATED HE WILL LOOK AT IT AND HE CANNOT MAKE ANY PROMISES. I DECLINED TO LET THEM SERVICE THE CAR. IN JUNE I HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE MY ENGINE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET AND AT THAT SAME TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON AND OFF. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, BUT OF COURSE THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE STEERING FAILED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE RADIO REMAINED ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR IT TO OPERATE NORMALLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED, BUT NO FAILURES WERE FOUND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
I PURCHASED A 2004 DURANGO IN NOV OF 2006. I HAD NO REAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE UNTIL RECENTLY. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL OF INSTRUMENT PANEL. RECENTLY WENT ON VACATION AND 300 MILES FROM HOME VEHICLE TEMP GAUGE READ HOT. PULLED OFF INTERSTATE TO NEAREST SERVICE STATION. NO DEALERSHIP NEAR HERE. MECHANIC FOUND NO CODES TO INDICATE PROBLEM. REPLACED WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, HOSES, CHECK RADIATOR, NEW FLUIDS, BILL TOTAL 377 DOLLARS. 3 MILES LATER CAR STILL TRYING TO OVER HEAT. TOWED TO VA FOR 1,000 DOLLARS NOW AT DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TRAVELING UP AN INCLINE AND REACHED IT'S PEAK AT ABOUT 40MPH. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST POWER. NO POWER STEERING AND HARDLY ANY BREAKING POWER. ON FEB. 10, 2007 @ 10:45 AM WHILE STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE STOPPED RESPONDING & THE PANEL LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING ON & OFF, THEN A BURNING SMELL STARTED & SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE DRIVERS PANEL AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE BEFORE PHYSICAL HARM COULD BE DONE TO ME. THE CONTACT CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE SHUT OFF/STALLED OFF 8 TIMES IN 16 MONTHS, AND HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN REPLACED OR REPAIRED, AND IT CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF WHILE COMING TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE STOPPED. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART FOR AN HOUR OR SO. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS THE POWER COMPONENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE ALSO ARE EFFECTED (IE STEERING, BRAKES, ETC.). THIS HAS LED TO A COUPLE OF NEAR COLLISIONS ON THE FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREETS. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
