HAD VEHICLE IN FOR BRAKE SERVICE. TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME (WITH PICTURES) THE PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CRADLE RUSTING OUT IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS. IN MY RESEARCH OF THIS ISSUE, I FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS PROBLEM WITH LITTLE OR NO ASSISTANCE FROM CHRYSLER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD LOSE THE ENGINE AT ANY TIME CAUSING POSSIBLE SEVERE INJURY. WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER TO STEP UP AND GET THE RECALL OUT TO ALL PACIFICA OWNERS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA I JUST BOUGHT IT ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO. I TOOK IT IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WHEN THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT MY SUBFRAME THAT HOLDS UP THE MOTOR IS BADLY RUSTED AND THAT MY MOTOR COULD FALL OUT ANYTIME. GOING TO THE SHOP NEXT WEEK DUE TO HOW UNSAFE IT IS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH, A VIBRATION WAS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE AND THE SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000. UPDATED 06/27/14*LJ THE TIE RODS AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 07/08/14
ENGINE CRADLE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. DISCOVERED DURING INSPECTION. MECHANIC SAYS THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE CURRENT CONDITION AND THE ENGINE COULD POSSIBLY FALL OUT! *TR
I NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS LOOKING WEIRD ABOUT MY CAR AND SOMETHING SEEMED HANGING REALLY LOW. I WENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT RIGHT AWAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CRADLE WAS ROTTING AND IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED OR MY ENGINE WAS GOING TO FALL TO THE GROUND IF I DID NOT GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF. I HAVE HAD NOTHING PUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. IT SEEMS LIKE ONCE I FIX ONE THING SOMETHING ELSE GOES WRONG. I HAVE SPENT OVER 3,000 DOLLARS ON THIS CAR SO FAR TO FIX IT AND NOW THIS. I WANTED TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION A SAFETY CONDITION WITH CERTAIN YEARS ON THE CHRYSLER PACIFICA. MANY OF THE PACIFICAS ENGINE CRADLES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED; TO THE POINT OF IF A BREAK OCCURS THE ENGINE WILL FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE IS MAINLY ON YEARS 2004-2005. (I OWN A 2005 MODEL WITH SEVERE RUSTED ENGINE CRADLE.) THE ESTIMATED COST OF THIS REPAIR IS BETWEEN $2,500 AND $3,000. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, THE 1ST TIME WAS NOV OF 2013 WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING 4/1/2014. CHRYSLER JUST SAYS ?WE?RE LOOKING INTO IT?. OWN A 2005CHRYSLER PACIFICA LIMITED FULLY LOADED WHICHWAS PURCHASED NEW. THE CAR WAS BUILT IN AUGUST 2004. I TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION IN DECEMBER 2013 AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ENGINE CRADLE SUPPORTING THE ENGINE WAS BADLY CORRODED AND WOULD NEED REPLACED TO PASS INSPECTION AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS DEFECT IN CARS MADE IN A 6 WK PERIOD AND AWARDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THESE VEHICLES BUT NOT MINE.. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CHEAP MATERIAL USED IN PRODUCTION AND I SHOULD GIVEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY WIFE AND GRANDCHILDREN WERE AT RISK WHILE DRIVING IT AND DIDN'T KNOW IT I AM A DECORATED VETERAN AND WILL BE CONTACTING THE PRESIDENT, MRS OBAMA AND INITIATING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND THE LOCAL NEWSCHANNEL.. MY VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY FOUND TO HAVE A RUSTED OUT ENGINE CRADLE DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER, AND THEY WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. MY MECHANIC HAS TRIED TO FIND ONE IN A JUNK YARD TO REPLACE IT, BUT EVERY PACIFICA IN THE JUNK YARD HAS A RUSTED OUT ENGINE CRADLE. THEY KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I TOOK MY 2005 PACIFICA IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM...ENGINE CRADLE/CROSSMEMBER BAR WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD HOLES IN IT. I TOOK IT IN TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $2514 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO MAKE MY CAR SAFE TO DRIVE. I TOOK MY 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN TO GET MY INSPECTION DONE YESTERDAY. THE MECHANIC PUT THE CAR IN THE LIFT TO CHECK IT, THEN HE SHOWED ME WHERE THE ENGINE CRADLE/SUBFRAME HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE YOU COULD STICK YOUR FINGERS THROUGH THE HOLE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS MORE LIKE MYSELF WITH THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT. THEY RECALLED A MINUTE PORTION OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM MADE IN THE SAME YEAR. THERE ARE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MAY HAVE NO CLUE THAT THEY ARE DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB, IN WHICH THE ENGINE COULD DROP OUT AT ANY TIME WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING. THIS CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FAMILY VEHICLE. I DROVE MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THIS CAR FOR A LONG TIME, NOT KNOWING...
THE ENGINE CRADLE OR SUBFRAME IS ENTIRELY RUSTED THROUGH, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THEY ENGINE COULD LIKELY FALL THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THE HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME IS LARGE ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR HAND THROUGH ON ONE SIDE AND CRACKING ON THE OTHER. *TR

WAS INFORMED BY SERVICE CENTER THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTING THRU. SVC CENTER ADVISED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. CONTACTED DEALER WHO LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE AND SAID IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST DAMAGE. DEALER ADVISED THAT CHRYSLER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR 04 & 05 PACIFICA'S FOR 10 YEARS OR 150000 MILES. CHRYSLER SENT A LETTER TO AFFECTED PEOPLE ON NOV 9, 2010. ( WE ARE NOT PART OF THE AFFECTED CARS ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER) THE DEALER ADVISED THAT OUR CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. PARTS FOR REPLACEMENT TOTALED OUT AT 1329.55 PLUS TAX AND LABOR. DEALER SAID TO CONTACT CHYRSLER CUST SVC TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY THING THEY CAN DO. CONTACTED CUSTOMER SVC AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE CAR DOES NOT FALL IN THE AFFECTED CARS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. HAVE...
FOUND OUT IN DECEMBER 2013 GETTING TIRES, THAT ENGINE CRADLE HAD SERIOUS RUST AND TO WATCH IT. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN JANUARY 2014, AND CAR NEEDED TRANSMISSION WORK. MECHANIC TOOK FRAME OFF AND IT RAINED RUST PARTICLES FROM THE HORRIBLY CORRODED ENGINE CRADLE FRAME. CALLED CHRYSLER, WANTING TO SPEAK WITH SUPERVISOR. I WAS TOLD THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL ME WITHIN 24 HRS. NEVER HAPPENED. CALLED AGAIN A WEEK LATER, AND THAT OPERATOR FOUND OUT MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE WAS NEVER DELIVERED TO A SUPERVISOR. AND NOW I"M WAITING AGAIN FOR 24 HRS FOR SOMEONE TO CALL ME. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR INTO GET THE POWER STEERING FIXED AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS ROTTING OUT AND I WOULD HAVE A COUPLE MONTHS, AT BEST, BEFORE IT COULD BECOME VERY DANGEROUS AND EVEN DEADLY. *TR
EXCESSIVE RUSTING OF ENGINE CRADLE. POSSIBILITY OF FRONT END OF SUBFRAME FALLING OUT OF THE CAR. *TR
MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE CRADLE AND/OR SUBFRAME IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND RUSTED. I HAVE ONE VERY LARGE CRACK IN THE ENGINE CRADLE AND ANOTHER FORMING. THE BOLTS AND MANY OTHER PARTS ARE RUSTED AND ROTTED THROUGH. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS BEEN FOR A LONG TIME BUT, SINCE MY CAR WAS MADE 6-8 WEEKS OUTSIDE OF THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD, THEY HAVE REFUSED TO HELP ME (WHILE AT THE SAME TIME OFFERING RELIEF TO OTHERS IN MY EXACT SITUATION). DURING MY INITIAL DISCUSSION WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE, A SUPERVISOR TOLD ME NOT TO CALL AGAIN AND, DESPITE NOT KNOWING THE FULL EXTENT OF MY PARTICULAR PROBLEM, TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER WOULD "ABSOLUTELY" NEVER DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.... UPDATED 10-17-13 *BF WHEN BRAKING THE CAR STARTED SHAKING. STEERING WAS LOST, AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THE FRONT ENGINE CRADLE HAD RUSTED SO TO THE POINT THERE WERE BIG HOLES. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE ENGINE CRADLE TOGETHER WAS THE MOTOR MOUNTS.
I TOOK MY PACIFICA IN TO GET THE TIRES ROTATED AND WAS TOLD I HAD A CRACKED FRAME AND THEY WOULD NOT ROTATE THEM. I CHECKED TO SEE IF I HAD A RECALL AND I DID NOT. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT IS WORTH LESS THAN WHAT IT WOULD COST TO FIX IT. JUDGING BY ALL THE COMPLAINTS THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I AM JUST THANKFUL MY FAMILY DIDN'T GET HURT BECAUSE OF IT. 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA 107000 MILES RUSTED ENGINE CRADLE. GARAGE KEPT AND SERVICED ONLY AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, SERVICE DEPT NEVER TOLD ME THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS EXTREMELY RUSTED AND CRACKED. AFTER SEVERAL CALLS AND EMAILS TO CHRYSLER CORPORATION THEY REFUSED TO WORK OUT ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ON REPAIR BILLS.*JB
I WAS TOLD WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED OUT & THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD NEED TO GET THIS FIXED OR THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION COULD FALL OUT. MY CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN STORED IN A GARAGE. THERE IS NO WAY A CAR OF THIS CALIBER SHOULD HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. IT ISN'T EVEN SOMETHING THAT OUR SERVICE GUY HAS SEEN ON VERY OLD CARS. WAS QUOTED @ $4200 FOR NEW ONE & AROUND $1200 FOR USED. MY REPAIR SHOP ORDERED 6 OF THEM BEFORE THEY COULD FIND ONE THAT WASN'T ALSO RUSTED OUT. OF COURSE THEY GOT MORE EXPENSIVE AS IT WENT ALONG. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN CHRYSLER SAYING THAT IT WASN'T COVERED & THEY WOULDN'T STAND BY THERE PRODUCT/DEFECT.

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2011. WHEN I BROUGHT TO MY MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE HE TOLD ME MY SUBFRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED AND THAT I PROBABLY WOULDN'T MAKE IT THROUGH THE WINTER...THE PART COST AROUND $1200. ALONE WITHOUT LABOR. I TRIED TO SAVE UP THE MONEY BUT WE JUST COULDN'T DO IT AND WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS MY MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT IS FIXED. HE ALSO ADVISE TO CHECK FOR A RECALL AND TO CALL CHRYSLER AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY TO DO. THEY SAY THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THAT MATTER OF THE DEFECTIVE PART BUT ONLY FOR THE MONTH OF FEB 04-MARCH 04 AND MINE WAS MADE IN JUNE 04 AND THAT MY CAR EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE SAME ISSUE IS EXEMPT FROM THE REPLACEMENT PART. TOOK CAR IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. CHRYSLER DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE IS RUSTING OUT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACE VERY SOON AND IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL FOR A SELECT 2004 YEAR CARS FOR THE SAME REASON. WHY HAS THE RECALL NOT BEEN EXTENDED TO INCLUDE A WIDER RANGE OF VINS? JUST HAD A STATE INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE DONE ON MY 2005 PACIFICA. THE TECHNICIAN PUT MY CAR ON A LIFT AND POINTED OUT MULTIPLE AREAS WHERE THE ENGINE CRADLE FRAME IS RUSTING OUT. HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS ON A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. AS IT TURNS OUT, WHILE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ON THE NHTSB AND OTHER WEB SITES, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHRYSLER PACIFICA. AND IS APPARENTLY OF LITTLE CONCERN TO CHRYSLER. THEY HAVE OFFERED SOME PEOPLE HELP AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN TOLD "TOO BAD", BASED ON SOME ARBITRARY MANUFACTURE DATE RANGE. THIS IS EVEN THOUGH THE DEFECT IS THE SAME NO MATTER THE MANUFACTURE DATE. THIS TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CONSUMERS IS UNBELIEVABLE AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED. WHILE MY CAR HAS PASSED THIS INSPECTION, WITHOUT CORRECTION, IT WILL NEVER PASS AGAIN. THIS WAS NOT A LOW COST VEHICLE...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING A STATE INSPECTION PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE SHE WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TOOK THE CAR TO LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER (BOURNIVAL CHRYSLER JEEP, YORK, ME) FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION. WAS TOLD CAR COULD NOT BE INSPECTED BECAUSE THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER HAD RUSTED THROUGH IN SPOTS.(CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED AT THE SAME FACILITY A YEAR AGO AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND) THE PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. CAR HAS 91,500 MILES. I HAVE READ OF CHRYSLER OFFERING A 10-YEAR, 100,000 WARRANTY ON THIS PROBLEM BUT NEITHER THE SERVICE MANAGER NOR NHTSA COULD CONFIRM. I HAVE SUSPICION THAT THE 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA'S MOTOR MOUNTS ARE BELOW EXPECTED STANDARDS. I MONITOR MY VEHICLES FOR COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS TO INSURE THAT IF I HAVE TO HAVE WORK DONE ON MY CARS IT IS FOR EXPECTED WEAR AND TEAR OF ANY VEHICLE. IT IS THROUGH THIS MONITORING THAT I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO EXPERIENCE WHAT SOUNDS LIKE SUBSTANDARD MOTOR MOUNTS. THIS HAS BEEN MY 1ST VEHICLE OF ANY KIND TO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT MOTOR MOUNTS.MY 2005 PACIFICA WITH 73K MILES HAS HAD TO HAVE BOTH MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED. IT SEEMS THAT BEFORE THEY WERE REPLACE THEY WERE NO LONGER FUNCTIONING AND THE MOTOR WAS BEING HELD IN PLACE BY 3 OTHER MINOR MOUNTS. APPARENTLY, THE BACKORDER IS SO BAD THAT IT COULD NOT BE GUARANTEED WITHIN 2 MONTHS. I HAD TO ORDER THEM THROUGH A 3RD PARTY IN ORDER TO REPLACE BEFORE...

EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILS TO ACTIVATE WHEN AN OCCUPANT IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, REGARDLESS OF THEIR WEIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE ARE TWO SENSORS IN THE SEAT THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED BECAUSE THAT IS HOW THEY WERE DESIGNED BY THE MANUFACTURER. TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE MOUNTING FRAME. THE GLASS WAS VERTICAL IN THE AIR STREAM UNTIL THE CAR WAS MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE GLASS WAS FULLY REMOVED AND TAKEN TO A GLASS REPAIR SHOP TO REATTACH TO THE MOUNTING FRAME. *TR

DT: NOTICED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2005 THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF VEHICLE WAS HIGHER THAN THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE VEHICLE. THEY MEASURED AND COMPARED IT TO A FLOOR MODEL, AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE SAME SIZE. THEN, HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AT A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND THEY MEASURED IT, AND DETERMINED IT WAS AN INCH HIGHER ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE.
