2013 RAM 1500 Steering Problems

When leaving/accelerating from a traffic light, the power steering stopped working. I immediately pulled into a parking lot to check power steering fluid...I then discovered this vehicle does not have hydraulic power steering.. It is electric. I got back in the truck to try and get home. The steering worked fine..for about 20 miles. At this time I was at highway speed and not power steering. I weigh over 250 lbs and could turn the steering wheel to get the truck off the road. If my wife would have been driving it could have been much worse. I took the truck to the Dodge dealer; Ron Carter/League City, 409-948-3132; they diagnosed electronic rack and pinion is bad. Must be replaced. After investigating this seems to be a common problem...and it is unsafe... But, for 2013 no recalls. Other years have a recall for this problem. I cannot get any information...

I had drove to a job the truck drove fine probably 10 miles. I went to leave the job after about an hour and half went to back out and I couldn’t turn my steering wheel. The service power steering light came on I proceeded to drive because me and my 3 year old had no other way of getting back home so I had to struggle to turn some three of four times about ten miles to park it in my garage. I haven’t been able to dive it to get it fixed because I am not able to drive it far to get it serviced. I have checked the fuse and it is good and everything I read says it has to do with the power steering module.

As I was driving my steering wheel jersey and my dash light indicator show a red steering wheel with an exclamation point next to it. As I continued to drive my steering wheel was very stiff. I noticed that I have no power steering.

The power steering went out without any knowledge and all of a sudden the light came on the same time the power steering went out and almost slammed head on first into oncoming traffic but was able to recover the vehicle without any damage they say there is a recall for the power steering online for this electronic power steering rack and pinion device so when I brought it into the dealership to have it looked at they told me there was no recall on this and gave me an estimate of over $3000 to fix the rack and pinion electronic steering device and the company I brought it to was the same place I bought it from and I still owe on this vehicle it has 56,000 miles on it now but I bought it used at 30,000 miles I’ve only put 26,000 miles on this vehicle in six...

To: I have a 2013 ram 1500 4x4 my miles 48,000 .Generally safety defect the drive shaft column, lower steering shaft column intermediate. Like all Bushings control arms, ball joint and lower ,upper, bar links , etc.The defects components fall apart easy to the bolts, nuts, rubber bushing. Its a problem for poses a very risk to all drivers on road. While driving under normal conditions steering warning indicator comes on and results in total loss of power steering assist. Vehicle is VERY difficult to steer and requires immediate stopping/pull over. Power steering will return after vehicle is shut off for approximately 5 minutes and restarted. The loss of power steering has happened at various speeds, from 5mph to 65mph and while turning, as well as driving straight ahead. It happened one time directly at start up, but seems to normally occur after 10-15 minutes of driving. No other warning indicators come on prior to this fault, there is no repeatable condition that seems to be present before this occurs, other than normal driving.

LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING ( EPS ISSUE). THIS HAPPENED WHILE MAKING A TURN AND DROVE OFF THE ROAD. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, THE DODGE DEALER TELLS ME MINE DOESN'T FALL UNDER THIS RECALL. ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. I UNDERSTAND 8 PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, THANK GOD I WASN'T # 9. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR 2013 - 2019. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD APPLY TO ALL OF THEM.

I THOUGHT FOR SURE MINE WOULD BE ON THE LIST BUT WAS NOT.

MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE RACK AND PINION IS NON FUNCTIONING, SHOULD BE UNDER SOME SORT OF A SAFETY RECALL! WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET.

I LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND AGAIN THE WARNING WENT AWAY AND POWER STEERING RETURNED. I CAUTIOUSLY DROVE THE TRUCK HOME AND HAVE NOT MOVED IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO A PRIOR RECALL OR SIMILAR ONE FOR THE EPS SYSTEM. I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER THIS WILL GO OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE SO I'M NOT TAKING MY CHANCES.

RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO RAM 1500S TO INCLUDE ALL FOURTH GENERATION MODELS, 2013-2019. WHILE DRIVING EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS PROBLEM WOULD RESOLVE BY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN NORMAL POWER STEERING. POWER STEERING LOSS WAS INTERMITTENT THEN BECAME MORE FREQUENT TILL COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHICH COULD NOT BE RESOLVED BY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE.

I FEEL LIKE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND OR SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH TO A DRIVER OR OTHER PEOPLE.
