Vehicle intermittently loses propulsion during acceleration when merging. Engine RPM remains low despite throttle input. After a delay, transmission re-engages abruptly with a metallic scraping noise. This creates unsafe merging conditions. This happened today, 2/14/2026 in 4 instances in the same trip. It has also occurred approximately 50 other times over the past six months when the mileage was as low as 66,100 miles.

As I was driving the car computer showed overheating, brake failure, transmission failure and the car started shaking and the engine died. I had the car towed by triple AAA to a auto repair shop, but the next day when they went to fix the problem could not replicate it.

The 2019 Honda Odyssey experienced an engine failure while driving on the highway in the Chicago area in Illinois. The engine began knocking, then failed completely. It was towed to a local Honda dealer, where the technician noted visible metallic flecks in the oil once drained. No check engine or other warnings occurred prior to the failure.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly entered LIMP Mode, and the check engine warning light started flashing. The vehicle was able to restart following the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the connecting rods had failed. The contact was informed that the connecting rods needed to be replaced, or the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Life-Threatening Acceleration Lag: The vehicle is experiencing severe power loss during critical driving moments, for example, while entering intersections or attempting to re-accelerate into moving traffic. When I attempt to speed up, the engine fails to respond initially, leaving the vehicle stranded in the path of cross-traffic. The engine finally engages only because I am forced to floor the accelerator pedal out of necessity, which then causes the tires to squeal when power eventually returns. Intermittent Starting Issues: The vehicle frequently fails to start smoothly on the first attempt; a known symptom associated with the fuel pump impeller deformation described in Recall 23V-858. VCM Shudder and Hesitation: I am experiencing the distinct vibration and rhythmic shudder associated with the Variable Cylinder Management system. This symptom is most prominent during deceleration or coasting; specifically, when I lift my foot off the accelerator without applying the brakes, the system triggers a noticeable...

Service engine light has been lit up and it says “emissions system problem”. I have had it tested at the shop and it states code P219A (air-fuel ratio variation of cylinder [bank 1, rear bank) which I am told has a warranty extension from Honda for 10 years or 150k miles. I am told my VIN does not quality. If other 2019 Odyssey’s have the same issue and qualify, why doesn’t mine? The fuel injectors are clogging and failing way too early for 66k miles. This has been going on for around 6 months Safety concerns - Potential engine failure, reduced performance, and increased emissions

I am getting a failing fuel injector that is not covered in Hondas openTSB. I am unsure how it was determined that only VIN are covered when it is the same engine for all 18 &19s. Honda is denying work but reporting because many others are having same problem and not covered on an odyssey forum. I believe it is an issue with more than the VINs in the extension. Recommending that NYSB collect data on all odyssey and see the failures
#11703796 | Fire
On November 27, 2025, my 2019 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure while traveling at highway speed. The vehicle had been serviced at an authorized Honda dealership the previous day (oil change and tire rotation), and the failure occurred approximately 55 miles after that service. While driving on the interstate, the engine abruptly lost power, expelled a large quantity of engine oil onto the roadway, and then caught fire in the engine compartment. The driver managed to pull over safely and extinguish the fire. This was a significant safety hazard to the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists. The dealership later reported that the engine suffered internal mechanical failure involving broken connecting rods, which caused extensive engine damage and oil loss. I reviewed public information and discovered that certain Honda 3.5L V6 engines from similar model years have been recalled for internal engine defects that may lead to...

The engine was the component that failed. While accelerating, I first noticed a slight knocking sound. At steady speeds the noise went away, but during the same drive it became progressively more frequent until it occurred under all driving conditions. When stopped at a light to make a left turn, the vehicle shut off immediately as soon as I released the brakes. There were no warning lights, diagnostic messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. Because the vehicle lost all power in the middle of a multi-lane intersection, my family and I were stranded in the roadway for approximately 1.5 hours until a tow truck arrived. The vehicle could not be moved out of traffic. After towing, a retired mechanic who operates his own shop inspected the vehicle. He performed a brief, approximately 15-minute preliminary evaluation and reported that the engine is seized. Based on his initial observation (without engine...

2019 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ) - Fuel injector failure at 51,000 miles, November 2025. Cost: $1,260. KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT: Honda Service Bulletins 20-100, 21-002, 22-002 acknowledge widespread fuel injector failures in 2018-2019 Odysseys caused by debris from manufacturing process. Honda extended warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for certain VINs. My VIN excluded despite identical failure. EVIDENCE: (1) Same symptoms/codes as covered vehicles (2) Fuel pump replaced under recall same visit - proves manufacturing defects (3) Proper maintenance with receipts (4) Dealer admitted injectors shouldn't fail at this mileage (5) Hundreds of similar complaints online HONDA DENIED COVERAGE: American Honda denied goodwill because I don't have dealership service records. This makes no sense - manufacturing debris in injectors isn't caused by where you get oil changes. SAFETY ISSUE: Sudden power loss, multiple warning lights, stalling risk while driving. REQUEST: Investigate why Honda excludes certain VINs from warranty coverage for acknowledged...

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the warning light was intermittently illuminated, and the vehicle had started idling rough. The contact stated that the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The contact stated that upon scanning the vehicle with a vehicle scanner, the contact retrieved DTC: P219A for fuel injector failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was known to the manufacturer, who had issued TSB Number: 21-010; however, the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

We bought this van new and twice since owning it-once in 2019 at 5,418 miles and this month (November 2025) at 136,947 miles-we have been driving down the interstate with a van full of people, when without any previous warning, suddenly multiple warning lights come on all at once (the check engine light, the transmission light, the vehicle stability assist light, among others-what I have been told in LIMP mode) and the van becomes difficult to drive. The engine revs and the multiple warnings keep flashing. It has been extremely dangerous to be going at interstate speeds and suddenly thrown into a driving status where our speed is crippled to a slow pace and trying to get to an exit or shoulder without causing an accident. We have had to have the van towed both times in order to get it to a dealer to have it looked at and...

While driving on the interstate the engine rod blew causing the motor to blow up and sustain a hole. This was confirmed by a Honda dealership during a video inspection. Several lights on the dashboard showed up shortly before the motor expired.

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious engine failure on my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which experienced a rod bearing failure that has rendered the vehicle inoperable. This failure occurred despite the vehicle being properly maintained and driven under normal conditions. As a result of this engine failure, my Odyssey is currently parked and unusable, yet I am still required to make ongoing auto loan payments while I attempt to find a solution to cover the cost of repairs. This issue was first detected at 63,000 miles.

The power sliding door on the driver’s side failed and will not open, even manually. The mechanism engages and stops after about an inch. This creates a significant safety risk because passengers cannot exit through the door in an emergency. This appears to be a widespread defect in 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey models. Repair cost is approximately $1,000. Honda needs to address this as a safety issue.
#11699690 |
This vehicle is horrible and should be bought back by Honda. They knowingly put this bad engine in the 2018-2019 year models for the Odyssey. The transmission grinds. The read door opens. The engine shuts off while driving at high rates of speed. You then have to pull to the side of the road and turn the ignition off, open the door, and restart the vehicle. I have complained to Honda for a buy back and they flat out said NO! Please help.

Traveling from appointment to home, vehicle started to rattle from engine, could not accelerate and shut off in the middle of the roadway. We couldn’t start the engine and “emission system failure “ message appeared for the first time. Prior to the event, we did not have any issues with starting, operating the vehicle and no warning lights on the dash. Police arrived to block traffic and ordered the tow to the dealership. Honda did a diagnostic for 240.00. Results were they found metal shavings in the oil and the engine needed to be replaced. We were surprised due to the fact that we just had a full synthetic oil change within the past month and no reports of metal in the oil were reported. Honda stated that recall 23V-751 addressed this issue but our VIN was not listed for coverage. Only choice is to replace the engine assembly, quoted...

Connecting rod bearings rattling at 72000 miles on my 209 Honda Odyssey. Loss of power.
#11696445 |
I was traveling approximately 65 MPH on Interstate 75 Southbound near Cincinnati, Ohio with the flow of traffic. Cruise control was not being used at this time. I felt a sudden loss of acceleration and heard a shrieking sound. I also observed the check engine light illuminate. I immediately signaled and moved toward the right shoulder from the middle left lane. Upon entering the far right lane, the same loss of power and shriek sound happened. I took the exit ramp to Sharon Road and upon releasing the accelerator, the vehicle's engine stalled. I coasted to a stop in the far left turn lane. I personally inspected the vehicle and upon using a scope into the spark plug holes, found that the center rear cylinder shows signs that the piston collided with at least one valve, and the piston does not move with the crankshaft. However, the rear valves do...
#11693533 | Crash
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while her son was driving at 70 MPH, he crashed into a deer. The air bags did not deploy. After investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V064000 (Air Bags). A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The driver struck his head on the steering wheel and sustained head injuries, and medical attention was provided on the military base. While driving, the vehicle stalled at the entrance of the military base. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair facility. The vehicle was being recalibrated. The air bag light was illuminated. The mechanic determined there was an issue with the seat belt pretensioner. The mechanic determined that the air bag sensor was not hit during the crash. The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed there were no recalls. The vehicle was...

My engine lights started flashing. I was stranded with my children. Had to coast into a nearby gas station. I’m told it’s a failed monocular camera causing all of it. When I google that it looks like it has happened to SO MANY people! A recall needs to happen.

While traveling in my 2019 Honda Odyssey (40,000 mile) the vehicle completely shut off and placed itself into neutral. The warning lights for emissions system problem, brake problem, and parking assist problem lit up on the dashboard. The vehicle went into neutral and would not allow me to drive at all. Then the vehicle shut off all within 30 seconds. The vehicle would then not restart and now i have to get the vehicle towed to the Honda Service Department. After looking through other complaints there is a known recall for manufacturer defected fuel injectors for my year model odyssey but does not appear when i search for recalls. This was an insanely dangerous situation here in Oahu where the traffic is very bad. The vehicle gave no warning or check engine light and we have completed every service for the vehicle. The vehicle just randomly completely shut off and...

The contact owned a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 45 MPH, and failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and was self-corrected after each failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions, but no fault codes were retrieved, and the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Action Number: PE25008 (ENGINE). The failure mileage was 33,000.

While accelerating from a complete stop at a red light, immediately after refueling, the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion power and forced itself into Neutral without any driver input. The dashboard lit up with numerous system warnings at once, including: •Emissions System Problem •Brake System Problem •ABS Problem •Brake Hold System Problem •Electric Parking Brake Problem •Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem The engine won't start, leaving me stranded in the middle of an active intersection. I attempted to restart the vehicle multiple times with no success. Police responded to the scene, confirmed the vehicle could not be driven, and a tow truck transported it to a nearby Honda dealership. The tow truck driver suspected an alternator failure, but the dealer’s inspection the next day could not reproduce the issue. They reported that the alternator and battery “tested fine” and that no trouble codes were stored in the ECU. No repairs...

Was Driving on my way to work and I heard a sharp sound while going up a hill. I then got warnings that said transmission issue, pull over immediately when safe and the car shifted itself into neutral. I was in the middle of traffic and lost all acceleration controls, while being forced out of the drive gear. I lost all speed and had to move through traffic and get to a side street. The same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. It was covered by a warranty but I still was experiencing losses of car power or stalling.

Car shut down for idle stop when I let foot off break the car did not start back up. Car died and I needed to restart car.
#11670940 |
Upon coming to a complete stop on the freeway, the idle engine feature stopped the engine. Upon letting go of the gas, the engine wouldn't restart and the electrical systems in the car malfunctioned showing a restart of the car would be needed. After trying to restart the car, the engine wouldn't turn over. After pushing the off button and starting the car again, it finally restarted. This created a hazardous situation as there was the potential for the car behind us to rear end us since we were at a complete stop on the freeway. After the software update, this happened again at a right turn on a local street.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the contact heard a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rod bearings had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Nothing has happened yet, but I have been unable to get the connecting rod bearings inspected per the Honda safety recall notice. I contacted the Honda dealer in January of 2025 to have the bearings inspected, as well as to have the fuel pump replaced (also under recall). I wanted them both done at the same time. I set up an appointment for May 21st of 2025, because that date was the first mutually available date for the dealer and me. Later in the day, on May 21st, I got a call from the service department that my fuel pump was done, but they did not do the bearing inspection. I went to pick up the vehicle at the dealership only to find that the check engine light was on, so I had to leave the vehicle overnight so that the check engine light problem could be corrected. It was...

I am filing this complaint to report a recurring and costly defect involving the starter system in my Honda Odyssey. The vehicle has been experiencing starter failures every few months, requiring repeated repairs and part replacements. Each time the starter fails, I am left stranded without warning, creating a serious safety hazard, especially when the failure occurs in public areas, on road shoulders, or during emergencies. The defect has caused extreme inconvenience, financial strain, and raised serious concerns about the reliability and safety of this vehicle. Given the frequency and cost of the problem, I believe this constitutes a systemic defect that should be investigated for a potential recall or manufacturer responsibility. I urge the NHTSA to thoroughly investigate this matter to determine whether this ongoing issue with the starter poses a broader public safety concern and qualifies for regulatory or enforcement action.

My 2019 Honda Odyssey has only 63,545 miles on it. The vehicle recently began making strange "rattling" sounds from inside the engine block when driving. I took the car into the dealership (Honda of Oakland) and learned from the technician that the rod bearings and/or connector rods are damaged. The engine needs to be completely torn down. To repair the car, I will need to purchase a new engine. The cost estimate is $13,000. Looking online, I discovered there is an ongoing recall for this issue affecting many 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys. Somehow, my vehicle has been excluded from this recall despite exhibiting the exact same problem(s) that the other recalled vehicles are experiencing. It appears that the existing recall parameters for the cars being affected by this bearing rod issue are too narrow. Many more Honda Odysseys are experiencing this same problem. I called American Honda for further assistance and...

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed an unknown message displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing belt tensioner had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,400.

I have had a recurring problem for years that the dealership has been unable to resolve. Occasionally while we are at a stop, and the engine auto off system kicks in, and then I tried to go again, the car stalls completely. Battery tests fine. It does not restart until sometimes after I open and close my driver side door a couple of times which I assume reboots the electrical system in some manner. The car then starts up again and is okay. This is extremely dangerous as it happens in the middle of driving down the road, and the dealership has been unable to identify a solution or what the real problem is.

The automatic engine start stop when at a stop while driving creates dangerous conditions. The engine stalls during the re-start and it seems to pull the voltage all the way down to where every controller is dead and restarting. Cycling ignition switch while cluster is black or restarting or throwing up bunches of fault messages as traffic is now moving and you are still stopped. Sometimes this re-boot process can take around 30 seconds (guessing, I'm freaking out during those moments so time is tough but it feels like a LONG time). I have not had an accident yet but definitely some very scary moments with wife and kids in the vehicle. This auto stop feature can be disabled but requires you hit the button with each ignition cycle and I don't always remember to do that. The Honda Odyssey currently has 80,000 miles on it, we bought it new...

2019 Honda Odyssey - since about 100,000 miles, a knocking sound has begun to present itself, and has gotten progressively worse. The vehicle is now at 129,000 miles and the sound has been diagnosed by 2 different repair shops as "rod knock" due to premature bearing wear. This is exactly what 250,000 vehicles were recalled for back in January 2024, however, this vehicle's vin was not included in said recall. The repair shops have quoted the vehicle owner $9000 for full engine replacement with a used Honda engine that could potentially have the same manufacturer defect that the engine being replaced has.

Vehicule does not respond when push the gas pedal. There is a delay on the vehicule respond after push the gas. Creating false idea of not pushing the gas enough. Suddenly the vehicule react loosing control.

This echos many of the existing complaints with the transmission already filed. When pulling away from a stop, the car will lag, then suddenly engage the wheels causing the car to jump forward. Some times there is a slight wheel spin etc. I have already taken it to the dealership, they said there was nothing wrong with transmission replaced the transmission fluid and reset the transmission controller. No change in behavior. I've been living with it, but recently drove another honda minivan and realized just how "not normal" the behavior is, and quite frankly how dangerous this has been all along.
#11632781 |
Since purchasing the vehicle, I've had several incidents where my safety and those inside my vehicle are compromised due to the loss of drive power and stalling of the vehicle while driving. I've complained to the dealer for which they continued to assure me that there was no problem detected during the safety inspections. Recently I received the recall notice to replace the fuel pump module which was causing the issues that I've experienced with my vehicle. I took my vehicle to the dealer on 11/11/24, where it was serviced to correct the recall issues. However, I continue to have the same problems of stalling and loss of drive power when driving the vehicle. There are no warning lamps or other issues detected by the dealer according to their safety inspection. My safety and the safety of my passengers, continues to be put at risk. While driving in the highway...

The vehicle has been occasionally stalling starting early 2024, maybe sooner. I had the fuel pump recall done recently. The vehicle is still stalling, and it seems to be getting worse. The stalling happens when driving at speed, even over 70+ mph. No warning lights. But rpms drop to almost zero for a few seconds and accelerator is unresponsive. Then it comes back after a few seconds. This is dangerous. Especially on busy highways.

I'm filing a complaint regarding unrepaired recall 23V-858 on my Honda Odyssey 2019 [XXX] . I' have been informed about it in December 2023 and kept trying scheduling a recall fix with Honda dealer for almost 6 months with no success. They are not able to do it because they don't have the required parts or something. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Received the letter for the recall. Noticed that the vehicle does occasionally hesitate during acceleration (sometimes at lights at intersections which is super dangerous) I have have multiple people who don't know about the recall asked me what's wrong with my car, why is it hesitating. Called 2 separate Honda dealerships total of 4 times to see if I can get the resolved. They all said they know about the recall but do not have parts. (this happened throughout the duration of 1+ year after the initial recall started) Called Honda USA, they say they can not do anything, but if I pay for the inspection (without telling the dealership about the recall) and they found something wrong, they would then do the repairs) Even though the recall says if we experience issues (hesitation is listed) I paid for the inspection, and of course they did not find anything wrong....

My family and I had just gotten on the parkway and the car wouldn't downshift. I noticed the "Drive" light kept blinking and then the dashboard lit up with so many different warning messages. "Emmissions system problem" was the message that stayed on. All of a sudden the car started shifting on its own into neutral, while we were on the parkway. Thank goodness there was an exit approaching and we were able to get off before we were injured in an accident. I have been having battery issues ever since I got this car. Even when it was brand new, sometimes it just wouldn't start. If I wait a little bit, eventually it starts, but I have already had to replace a battery at 30,000 miles because of this. It has been happening again, but when I bring it to Honda and my mechanic, the battery is normal. After...

Car hesitates upon acceleration passing through approximately 2000 rpm. Does not duplicate every time. Dealer will not replace high pressure fuel pump.
#11612487 | Crash
My 2019 Honda Odyssey was involved in a total loss car accident recently on Aug 20 2024. The cause was delayed acceleration due to a fuel pump recall by Honda Motor Corp from Dec 2023; and to date they have failed and neglected to provide the part to repair. For over a year I have experienced delayed acceleration issues with this auto. I purchased this auto new from the local dealer in 2019 and have constantly experienced, reported and paid thousands to repair and address transmission and delayed acceleration issues. Now this resulted in my inability to accelerate from a stop position resulting in another vehicle directly crashing into mine. Researching similar issues reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it appears I'm not alone. In our case - we were in fact "T-boned".

My 2019 Honda Odyssey has had issues with engine hesitation since purchase, but have worsened in the last year to the point that I am concerned I will be in an accident. When creeping forward at a lower speed (5-8mph) to make a turn, the engine hesitates for several seconds, delaying my ability to turn and causing me to then turn seconds before another car is approaching me. I am in a Honda facebook group and many people report similar issues without any fix. I have taken my car to the dealership and they do not see any issues. I recently had my fuel pump recall done (I basically had to beg the dealership to do it despite them telling me Honda is short on supplies), and the issue is still present. The issue is worse in colder weather. I drive with 3 kids in the backseat. This issue needs...
