When driving the vehicle the steering wheel sticks when I turn, change lanes, etc. It is most noticeable at highway speeds. If I am moving to the left, the steering wheel sticks and doesn't want to freely move back to the right/straighten up. Obviously the reverse occurs when I go to move to the right- it sticks and pressure is required to straighten the steering wheel. to date the steering wheel has not remained in a stuck position. This presents a major safety concern - if it doesn't move freely back to the desired position there is heightened chance of a traffic accident resulting in damage to my car and other cars involved. Worst case scenario: a serious accident resulting in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO MYSELF as well as any other drivers and/or passengers involved. NOTE: My local Honda dealer reports that there are NO recalls or Service bulletins...
- rack and pinion steering has developed 'sticky steering' problem - steering resistance has created steering difficulty and dangerous driving situation - problem has been confirmed by a dealer and estimate for repair over $5,000 - component has not been inspected by manufacturer, wish they would. - no warning lights prior to failure. Steering my Honda CRV 2017 has become difficult and the 'sticky steering' symptoms have also been experienced by other CRV owners as expressed on line. This vehicle has become dangerous to drive
the steering is sticking, causes driver to over correct. the problem was diagnosed by honda of asheboro nc. the rack and pinion steering was inspected by dealership and determined to be faulty. the problem started 2-3 yrs ago. at first it was very infrequent. i did not realize what was happening until recently when it has gotten much worse although there has been some hondas of the same make and model recalled (NHTSA 18V-663) my honda was not among them. my honda has 61000 miles and the exact same problem!
steering sticking vehicle is available for inspection when the steering sticks you have tendency to over correct Honda dealership has confirmed the problem with no warning first started happening occasionally about 2-3 yrs ago, has just become persistent in last 2 months. 2017 cr-v car has 61000 miles all though this model has had some safety issues in the past( NHTSA recall report 18v-663) they refuse to fix this problem unless I pay them over $5000
Steering is sticky and grabbing. There is a catch in the middle position. There is a warranty extension out for this problem but not for my VIN #. How do I get Honda to cover this? Problem has been progressing over the last month. This occurs at variable speeds.
Steering doesn't feel right. Doesn't seem to steer correctly.
CUSTOMER STATES THERE IS A CLICKING/POPPING NOISE WHEN MAKING SLIGHT STEERING ADJUSTMENTS. - POWER STEERING RACK REPLACEMENT
At highway speed the steering becomes erratic and jerky.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel momentarily became difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the electronic power steering unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (STEERING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 30,000.
While turning the steering wheel to make small adjustments in direction, the steering wheel has some resistance to a point and then loses resistance causing some over steer. I would use the term "sticky steering" to describe it. The problem can be reproduced any time. Symptoms first appeared around January, 2025. No error/warning lights on dash. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone.
The steering sticks when driving straight or in gradual turns to left and right at highway speeds, slight movement overrides the sticking spot and very slight effort moves it past but sticking is always present
Experienced a continuous "sticky steering" problem at about 50K miles, causing a potentially dangerous condition at moderate to highway speeds. Extra force was required to steer away from the center and a slight clicking noise could be heard when the steering wheel was moved. On 5/31/24, the dealer diagnosed the problem per safety recall service bulletin 18-103 and stated that the EPS steering gearbox needed to be replaced. However, our VIN # was not included in the recall and we had to pay for the repair. The part was on backorder and was not received and installed until 9/10/24.
The car had just 44,242 miles when this problem started on 8/21/2024. Two months later, the problem persists. The safety systems of the car fail upon startup and remain this way for multiple cycles of driving the car. The reality is that I cannot check enough boxes above because the form doesn't allow me. The following warnings all come up at the same time: - Emission System Problem - Brake System Problem - Brake Hold System Problem - Power Steering System (EPS) Problem - Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem - Hill Start Assist Problem - Adaptive Cruise Control Problem - Collision Mitigation System Problem - Road Departure Mitigation System Problem - Electronic Parking Brake Problem - Tire Pressure Monitor Problem Eventually, after some amount of time or some number of restarts, the warnings clear and the safety systems work again. Then, the problem reappears.
I took my car into dealership over a year ago because of the steering. They didn’t have time to look at it so I took it to a repair shop. He drove the car and told me to take it to dealership because of the steering. He could feel the hesitation when driving. He said it should still be under warranty. Took it back to dealership another day . After waiting 2 hours I already knew when the technician came back they were going to charge me with something because it had been a 2 hour wait. He said I had a loose bolt!!! Really!! They didn’t even drive the car. Even after the so called loose bolt I’m still having the same issue. They said the car was no longer under warranty. There’s a clicking noise it makes and I’m scared to drive it long distances. I’ve had to...
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering suddenly turned independently, requiring the contact to manually return the steering wheel to the center. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.
See attached document for complaint.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the steering wheel became stiff. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The contact was advised by the local dealer that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
It is very hard to explain the feeling without driving it. I call it sticky steering. In a curve there would be some resistance when rounding a curve, almost like a nudging feeling, not smooth like other vehicles I would drive. It's like the steering gets stuck in a groove while in the curve and doesn't have the smoothness when adjusting to the curve. A more detailed explanation is attached.
My vehicle steering was clicking and having trouble turning. When I brought it in for a checkup, I was told that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced, and this was not due to wear and tear. Upon further research this exact year and model had several recalls for the exact problem I am having. Due to my VIN not being under the recall directly I was told there was nothing that could be helped and I would need to pay out of pocket for the repairs. My car is 4,000 miles over the extended warranted that I bought and since this is not due to wear and tear of the vehicle, I feel I am due compensation for getting this repaired. I cannot afford this at the moment because I am a single woman who works to live and pay my bills. I got this vehicle for its...
Steering component locks up causing the vehicle to become slightly difficult to make turns and I get clicking sounds from steering column took vehicle to get fixed at independent service center they installed new rack and pinion plus other parts and with labor cost over four thousand dollars paper invoice available upon request I’ve owned Honda 2017 crv lx since 2017 which I bought new. Problem started in the beginning of May of 2024. No warming lights messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the start of problem.
The issue involves the steering of the vehicle at highway speeds. The steering gets stuck going straight and requires more force than usual to steer the vehicle. It feels like the straight line steering is stuck in position and then it suddenly gives way. This happens on most highway journeys at the moment between 50 and 70 mph. Because extra force is needed to push the steering out of the straight line position, it is possible to push too hard and change position in the lane without intending too. This then needs to be corrected. I noticed this one time before and took my vehicle in to Honda but they were not able to rectify. It is now happening much more frequently.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the steering wheel seized, and was difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the failure recurred consistently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with rack and pinion failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
My car went into the limp mode when I was driving and would only go 7 to 8 miles per hour. This is a big safety hazard. Had I been on the freeway and not near my home, it could have easily caused an accident.I had it towed to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong and said it was probably Bad gas. Prior to this, several lights had come on the dash stating that all of the systems in the car were not working. They also could not tell me why that was happening. It seems now that I find out that Honda CRVs made in the year 2017 have bad fuel injectors. I'm having to get that replaced. I'm not sure if that's what caused the car to go into the limp mode.
Sticky steering while driving moderate to highway speeds while driving straight. Steering is not smooth as turn slightly from neutral straight position to keep staight driving line. Not noticeable whenever turn back and forth on corners. Stickiness only noticed while trying drive straight
What I experienced was a multiple system failure. It began with a dead battery two years ago. When the engine was restarted the TPMS light came on along with the indicator light to get your car checked. The lights only came on intermittently at first and it didn't seem to affect the function of the car. I had assumed that when I replaced the battery, I had loosened a fuse. As time passed, the number of lights on the dashboard increased along with the duration of time they stayed lit up. Now, within the past 3 months, all the system indicator lights are on constantly, with the accompanying beeps, dings and sounds for each light. Yesterday, on the highway, my dashboard began to dim and the vehicle began to stutter. The dashboard indicator read Critical Failure Detected. Stop Driving When Safe. At the time I was on the highway in...
When driving at highway speeds the steering would get stuck Causing higher than normal resistance to turn. Once the steering would respond it required quick over correction to prevent leaving the roadway.
Torque sensor internal failure causing notchy operation of steering. Safety issue concerning unpredictable jerkiness in the steering, especially at speeds over 40 mph. Confirmed by Coggin Honda of St. Augustine. Entire steering rack had to be replaced at a cost of over $3,300.00. No warnings prior to failure of the system.
New resistance in steering at highway speed trying to keep steering centered and straight. No indicators or warning lights noting issue. Noted Honda TSB 18-103, 54 vehicles ONLY were recalled. Symptoms similar to TSB, brought to dealer, master tech diagnosed replacement of rack and gearbox, paid by extended service warranty because this vehicle NOT recalled by Honda. Once repaired, within the week on highway the LKAS kept indicating "Steering Required" on a very well marked highway where I never had that issue before, and the LKAS system was very noticeably NOT preventing steering into another lane when turn signal not used. Currently have another appointment to fix that (probably LKAS reset). This entire issue could have potentially resulted in crash or injury if not diagnosed and repaired immediately.
Steering feels “sticky” when trying to make small corrections to keep the car straight. By “sticky” I mean a little bit harder to move smoothly than normal to keep the car straight. Or there is more friction than normal when making small corrections to keep the car straight. The steering is not smooth when making small corrections to go straight. The “stickyness” only happens from center and between the 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock positions. Also feels like it does not want to move but then suddenly slips or jerks to the left or right from center. There is sometimes a faint noise from the steering column area with the stickyness – sounds like a little clunk, or squeak like when something is rubbing and needs grease or lubricant or worn out. When does it happen? Seems to happen more often after driving for a while like over 30 minutes....
When driving straight the steering makes an unexpected jerk on ITS OWN to the right or left. The movement is a small JERK on its own from the 12 o'clock center position to about the 1 o'clock or about the 11 o'clock positions. After it moves on its own, it feels loose or like there is a dead spot where there is NO CONTROL, It feels like it slips/jerks when I move it back to correct the steering to the 12 o'clock center position. Feels like I have to fight with the steering to keep it centered when the unexpected movement happens. Happens both when lane keep assist is OFF or on. More frequent at speeds above 40mph and highway speeds 55+mph Happens less frequently at lower speeds and on short 5-minute drives. Happens more frequently when driving straight on good, flat, smooth roads.
Hello team, There is an ongoing issue with HONDA CRV's where all dashboard warning lamps turn on themselves and keep beeping and flashing, affecting all electronic features on the car. So many people are complaining about this issue, check google or You tube but Honda is not recalling these cars and if you are past your manufacturer warranty, the dealership charges a heck of money and when they fix the issue, that's a temporary solution as the issue comes back just a few days after. I would like to raise this issue and I hope my voice will be heard. I am a Canadian customer in Mississauga, I could not find the right form for Canadian customers Thank you
I was going ~60-65MPH on the Ronald Reagan freeway east bound on a rainy day at ~ 3:40pm on 27th December 2022. I was going on the second from left lane between the Rinaldi and Porter Ranch exits. Unbeknownst to me this part of the freeway is notorious for flooding in the left lanes. I applied the brakes gently to slow down my car. Suddenly, I felt I lost steering, the car skidded the steering wheel turned left into the median barrier. The car then made a complete U-turn in the direction of traffic and flipped over one complete revolution. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the crash and other cars were not involved. There were no warnings and indication that the car was hydroplaning. The skidding safety feature was turned on. I released the car to the insurance company to recover monetary loss and I don't have any information on...
My car brakes itself on my road and it took about 20 minutes of turning it off and back on to get 15 feet to my driveway. My car also started shaking and steering to the right on its own, I had a very difficult time not crashing. while I was on the highway with my 4 year old son in the back seat
When driving short and longer distances, typically at speeds consistently over 35mph the steering wheel seems to "lock" in place or feels "stuck". There is also an associated creaking sound. The locking up/stuck is pretty easily resolved, SO FAR. This behavior started this summer and happened practically all summer any time I drove anywhere. (The fields below don't allow me to enter multiple dates/ranges.) My kids are almost 17 now and I cannot help them work on driving miles to get their licenses because I feel my car is unsafe to drive. This identical behavior has been pretty well documented in several years of the Honda CRVs on a Honda forum (https://www.carproblemzoo.com/honda/cr-v/steering-problems.php). The mentioned forum has examples where much more extreme results occur where steering locks up while turning and cars become undrivable. Reports are that Honda has been unwilling/unresponsive to address/resolve. I've had my Honda dealer service team trying...
The dashboard and radio screen start to glitch, causing my steering wheel to lock up and making it complicated to turn. This hazard makes me feel unsafe for myself and others.
Steering wheel has too much play/turns too easily/doesn't feel tight enough for accurate maneuverability. Highway driving requires constant focus on lane position and lane lines, making for an exhausting drive. Very difficult to prevent car from drifting out of the lane. Accident could result from car quickly drifting into neighboring lanes an oncoming traffic. Shortly after purchase, Honda mechanic checked it out. Even with an appointment I was there for 3 hours. I was told no issues were found. However, when I left the dealership, I immediately noticed a considerable improvement in maneuverability. Over time the challenging maneuverability issue has returned.
TUGGING , PULLING SENSATION MAINLY WHEN TURNING LEFT AND SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING RIGHT MOTION IS NOT INITIATED BY THE DRIVER CAR WAS TAKEN TWICE TO HONDA DEALER AND KEPT FOR 3 TO 4 DAYS -AXLE REPLACED- DIDN'T HELP. TODAY IS MAY 18, 2021 AND I AM STILL HAVING STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE- STEERING WHEEL PULLS AND TUGS NOW AND THEN AT VARIOUS SPEEDS.
COMPUTER FAILURE RESULTING IN MULTIPLE ERROR MESSAGE'S AND WARNING LIGHTS. LOSS OF ANTILOCK BRAKES, ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKES, AUTOMATIC COLLISION BRAKES, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE MITIGATION, HILL ASSIST, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM, POWER STEERING PROBLEM. TOOK VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALER, THEY CLAIMED SOFTWARE ISSUE AND DID AN UPGRADE. PROBLEM IS BACK. I RESET THE COMPUTER BY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. A FEW DAYS LATER PROBLEM RETURNS. DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE DRIVING OR PARKED. IT HAS FAILED WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE PARKED WITH ENGINE RUNNING. ERROR REQUIRES A COMPUTER RESET TO CLEAR IT. PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED OVER A YEAR AGO AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY..
I WAS DRIVING WITH THE TOURING SYSTEM ON THAT KEEPS THE VEHICLE BETWEEN LINES, WHEN SUDDENLY STARTED RAINING AND THE CAR DID A COMPLETE TURN OF THE WHEEL MAKING THE CAR GO CRAZY AND SPINNING ABOUT 3 TIMES WHILE IN THE HIGHWAY
RECALL: 17V256000, 17V442000, 18V663000. WHY WEREN'T THESE RECALLS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. I PURCHASED A CAR WITH 3 RECALLS BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT LISTED ON YOUR SITE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL CEASED WITH SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME, PARKED OVERNIGHT, AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE HENDRICK HONDA OF CHARLESTON LOCATED AT (1539 SAVANNAH HIGHWAY, CHARLESTON, SC 29407 (843) 279-0447) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.
ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP AND STAY LIT UP EVEN AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER AND AFTER DRIVING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. WHEN THE LIGHTS COME ON THE CAR LOSES POWER AND CAN NOT EXCELLERATE. CLIMBING A STEEP HILL IS VERY DIFFICULT.
THIS MORNING AS I WAS DRIVING I WENT THROUGH A 4-WAY INTERSECTION. I WAS HALF WAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHEN MY CAR ANNOUNCED LANE DEPARTURE. AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE SHOT OVER TO THE RIGHT AND HIT THE CURB AT THE END OF THE INTERSECTION. I SHREDDED MY TIRE, AND HAD TO PLACE THE SPARE ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TO HONDA MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING I HAVE BEEN GO AT A SPEED AROUND 45-70 MPH, AND THE VEHICLE WILL FLASH BRAKE. AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WILL LOCK UP. THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME FOR ANY THE OCCASIONS. HONDA TOLD ME TO SWITCH MY EZ PASS RESPONDER TO MAKE SURE THAT WASN'T CAUSING INTERFERENCE. I SWITCHED IT, AND IT KEPT OCCURRING. THIS MORNING THE CONCERNS I BROUGHT UP AT MY LAST SERVICE ABOUT WHAT IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT...
I WAS DRIVING MY HONDA CR-V ON A HIGHWAY USING THE HOV LANE. AT SOME POINT WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEEMED TO HAVE COLLAPSE AND THE CAR STARTED PULLING STRONG IN ONE DIRECTION TOWARDS THE CENTER DIVIDER LINE. WITH TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL THE PULL WAS SO STRONG THAT I WOULD BARELY CONTROL THE CAR AND KEEP IT FROM CRASHING INTO THE DIVIDER. BARELY MISSING THE DIVIDER I MANAGED TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER LUCKILY WITHOUT ANYONE COLLIDING INTO ME. IF I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE THIS COULD HAVE PROMPTED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I DIDN'T GO OVER ANY POTHOLE OR OBSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD. NO ONE HIT ME NOR DID I HIT ANYONE. NO AIRBAGS INFLATED NOR WARNING INDICATORS APPEAR ON THE CONSOLE. I CALLED THE POLICE AND ONCE ON THE SCENE THE POLICE SWEPT THE HIGHWAY TO DETERMINE IF THERE WERE...
WHEN TURNING SHARP THE REAR END MAKES A GRINDING SOUND AND WILL JERK. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE DIFFERENTIAL GRINDING. WAS TOLD IT JUST NEEDED SERVICED AT 17,000. I DID THIS AND PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED.
MY CAR WAS IN MOTION I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR JUST STOPPED. I TURNED IT OFF, WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON, IT DIDN'T. I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. SO I JUST LEFT IT ALONE. ONLY THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE RADIO TURNED ON, I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE WINDOWS. THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME UP WERE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING, CHARGING SYSTEM, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS.
THE GEAR SHIFT BUTTON IS BROKEN. SEARCHED ONLINE THAT THEY ARE ALL 2017 CRVS. MY CASE IS EVEN WORSE THAT ONE BROKEN PART GETS STUCK INSIDE AND I CAN'T SHIFT IT FROM D TO P. WE SUCCESSFULLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT'S BROKEN WHEN DRIVING.
MY CAR WHEN 1ST TIME START ENGINE IN AM ,THE WHOLE CAR SHACKING ABNORMAL AND THE GASOLINE SMELL SOME TIME BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT WRONG
AS I WAS LEAVING THIS MORNING I HEARD SOMETHING CRACK AND FALL. I DIDN'T LOOK DOWN TO SEE WHAT IT WAS SINCE THE CAR MOVED INTO D WITH NO PROBLEM AND I DROVE TO WORK. WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO PARK (STOPPED) I LOOKED OVER AND NOTICED THE BUTTON YOU PUSH TO SELECT GEARS WAS MISSING I ONLY SAW A SPRING. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW IT HAD FALLEN OFF. I WAS ABLE TO USE IT TO PUSH IN AND CHANGE GEARS, BUT I WASN'T ABLE TO SHUT IT OFF PROPERLY WITHOUT EFFORT WHEN STATIONARY.
FOR THE THIRD TIME, SINCE BUYING THE CAR NEW, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AND ALL SAFETY SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN. THIS TIME POWER STEERING WAS ALSO LOST WHICH COULD'VE CAUSED A CRASH. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO RODENT DAMAGE AGAIN. HONDA SELLS RODENT TAPE AND I'VE USED IT BUT CAN'T TELL WHERE THE RODENTS WILL EAT. I BELIVE THIS IS DUE TO THE SOY-BASED INSULATION AND OTHER PARTS IN THE CAR AS NONE OF MY OTHER VEHICLES HAVE EVER HAD THIS ISSUE AND I LIVE IN A RURAL ENVIRONMENT. VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN'WAS TEMPORARILY PARKED OUTSIDE WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
